Strange Love is a Yuri Sex Comedy anime that tells the story of a beautiful schoolgirl named Chizuru Yoshida and her very strange encounters with a wannabe horndog teacher, her rocker boyfriend and a young girl who may or may not be the love of her life. The series is based on the second series of a manga simply known as Hen ("Strangeness") by Hiroya Oku, the guy who gave us such wonderful classics as Gantz (yes, that Gantz) and Inuyashiki. The OVA is only two episodes long and the main plot doesn't even really get started until episode 2... but the story and characters aren't really the main reasons anyone would choose to watch a show like this.

These tropes are... strange:

  • Absurdly High-Stakes Game: After coming over to Karasawa's house for the night Chizuru offers to have sex with him if he can beat her in a game of Rock–Paper–Scissors just once. After failing miserably the first time she offers him a single rematch on the condition that he ante up 10,000 yen (about a hundred bucks) as a wager. He does and they throw hands one last time. Karasawa wins but Chizuru tricks him out of holding up her end of the deal and both ultimately walk away with nothing, making this a rare case where the absurdly high wager isn't met on either side.
  • Accent Upon The Wrong Syllable: The teacher from the first episode has a really weird habit of pronouncing "tits" as "tiiit-saaah" whenever he refers to Chizuru's humongous boobs. This quickly drives Sage up the wall when he has to keep hearing it in his review of the OVA.
Sage: UGGGGHHHH! Stop talking! You're the only man I know of that can make breasts sound as appealing as a steel wool pap smear!
  • The Ace: Chizuru, the main protagonist. She has good looks, high marks in school, is athletic and has a huge rack on top of it all. She's also almost unbeatable at rock-paper-scissors and claims to be a blackbelt. Though the blackbelt boast was likely just an attempt to get Karasawa to back off from assaulting her and she ultimately loses her second game of rock-paper-scissors as well as the following arm-wrestling match.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Chizuru is shown to be dating a sleazy douchebag rocker boyfriend named Hiroyuki at the beginning of episode 2. Unfortunately, this trope blows up in her face pretty badly when he cheats on her with a random groupie from his concert not even 5 minutes into the episode, prompting her to break up with him.
  • Bisexual Love Triangle: The main plot of the second episode focuses on the sexual conflict between Chizuru, her rocker boyfriend and a new girl who she has unexpectedly fallen in love with.
  • Compressed Adaptation: The OVA compresses roughly the first 20 chapters of Hen's second series into two 40-minute episodes.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Sushiaki Karasawa, the horny teacher who gets most of the focus in the first episode, seems like he'll become the male lead of the anime in his desperate quest to get Chizuru's affections. As this is a Yuri title he promptly disappears after the first episode and the subplot of him recognizing Chizuru as the girl from the commercial goes nowhere.
  • Fanservice: The main reason to stick around for both of the episodes. The main character is a busty and beautiful model who spends a large amount of her screen time naked or in sexy clothing.
  • Fantasy Sequence: These make up a good chuck of the sexual content in the OVA. Karasawa provides most of them for the first episode while Chizuru herself provides the most for the second episode.
  • No Ending: Chizuru shows up just in time to save Azumi from Hiroyuki's attempts at seducing her, Hiroyuki breaks down crying at his failure, Chizuru breaks down crying in relief, Azumi breaks down crying upon seeing Chizuru crying over her and... that's pretty much it. Roll credits.
  • Rock–Paper–Scissors: The end of the first episode focuses on a multi-round game of Rock-Paper-Scissors to decide if Chizuru will have sex with Karasawa or not. After dominating the first several rounds she offers him a second chance and immediately regrets it when he proceeds to utterly demolish her in the following turns and win the game. Afterwards, she tricks him into agreeing to a winner-take-all arm-wrestling match and then handcuffs him to the table when he beats her. Finally, after trying to ambush her in bed with the table still tied to his arm she gets him to back off by... claiming to still be a virgin. It makes just about as much sense in context as it does here, that is to say... not much at all.
  • Shout-Out: To Golden Boy of all things. The second episode has Chizuru steal an Expy Kintaro's bike near the climax in her mad dash to get home before Hiroyuki can steal Azumi from her.
  • Skinship Grope: The classic locker room setup happens when a girl grabs Chizuru's huge rack in the second episode, prompting her to immediately try the same thing on Azumi.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: What Karasawa is hoping for with Chizuru throughout the first episode, even though she's waaaaaay out of his league as stated by pretty much everyone else, including Chizuru herself. Ultimately, this never comes to pass as she easily manipulates him into letting her stay over for the night while not actually engaging in any sexual behavior until she leaves the next day. Even when he tries to force himself on her she gets him to back off both times, once with a threat and once by claiming to still be a virgin.
