Stand by Me Doraemon 2 is a CGI Doraemon Film Series movie released in 2020 that serves as the sequel of Stand by Me Doraemon. It summarizes what Doraemon's all about, and it serves as a good introduction to the series.

Like its prequel, it combines some of the most famous chapters of the comic into a complete story.note  Nobita has managed to change his future for the better, making Shizuka marry him. However, when he decides to visit his beloved grandmother, who died when he was still in kindergarten and whom he was really fond of, and his grandmother wishes to meet his future bride before she dies, he discovers that his future self fled his wedding to the era of his childhood, fearing that he is not the right person for Shizuka. What takes place is a roller coaster of emotions, fun and suspense.

This movie borrows most of its tropes from the manga chapters it adapts (see the note above), but it also adds in some tropes of its own.

Tropes unique to Stand by Me Doraemon:

  • Adaptation Amalgamation: It combines the stories of the short films: Doraemon: A Grandmother's Recollections, The Day When I Was Born, and Doraemon: Nobita's the Night Before a Wedding.
  • Aesop Amnesia: Present!Nobita accidentally forgets everything by touching the Forgotten Stick while traveling back to his era. To not mess up the timeline even more at the end, Doraemon refuses to tell what exactly happened, much to Nobita's dismay.
  • Ascended Extra: Nobita's grandma has a far bigger role in this movie than the manga it's based on. Including actually witnessing her grandson's wedding, a first in the franchise.
  • Bad Future: Doraemon showcases both Child!Nobita and Adult!Nobita's possible bad future on his Time TV where Shizuka kept waiting for Nobita for the rest of her life. It ultimately doesn't happen.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Gian and Suneo show up just in time to save Nobita and Shizuka from the teenage hooligans while telling those guys that only they can bully Nobita.
  • Colour Failure: The moment Child!Nobita - stuck in his adult body during his wedding - is told to exchange vows with Adult!Shizuka, the nervousness making Nobita turn completely pale for more than half a minute.
  • Foreshadowing: Despite Present!Nobita using his own memory to contact his future self in the previous movie to save him and Shizuka, Future!Nobita has no idea about his past self bringing his grandmother to the wedding and is completely surprised by it. This is because Present!Nobita accidentally got hit with the Forgotten Stick at the end and forgot everything he did during the movie, so Doraemon left him to discover this himself.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Both Nobitas switch bodies by using the Substitution Rope. Unfortunately, the gadget is damaged and has a side effect that if two people don’t swap back soon, they will pass out and completely forget everything.
  • Imagine Spot: Doraemon, after realizing the Time Machine isn't in the same cubicle he left it in and there isn't an available gadget for them to travel back to the past, imagines how it's like being stranded in the future with Nobita while begging for alms in the streets.
  • Kids Driving Cars: He's technically not a "kid", but Adult!Nobita, after swapping bodies with his child self, tries getting away from a bunch of hooligans by hijacking a nearby scooter.
  • Mental Time Travel: While stranded in the future, Doraemon realized that he still had the Soul Machine, a gadget that sends a person's consciousness back to the past, and uses that on Nobita to send a warning to his past self. It works.
  • The Promise: After Nobita shows to her grandmother that he's from the future, her grandmother wishes to meet his future bride. Nobita not only promises to grant her wish, he also takes her to the future to watch his wedding speech, which makes everyone cry of joy.
  • Race Against the Clock: After being informed of the flaw in the Substitution Rope, Child!Nobita (stuck in his adult self's body) have to find his adult self before their memory gets erased completely, with mere seconds to spare.
  • Runaway Fiancé: Future!Nobita abandons his own wedding out of fear of not being a suitable husband for Shizuka. He eventually comes back in time to save his matrimony.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: After all their escapades in the future and the repeated attempts of Nobita and Doraemon to fix the future, right in the final scene, Doraemon unintentionally drops his Forgetting Stick on Nobita, causing his memory of the entire adventure to be erased. Whoops. However, Doraemon decides it's for the better that Nobita doesn't find out what happened until he grows up and experiences it for himself.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Adult!Nobita attempts to pay the hooligans, however, since his money comes from the future and features Osamu Tezuka, the hooligans assume that the money is fake.
  • Teens Are Monsters: The three hooligans who try to extort Nobita and physically attack him certainly are.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: The end credits include scenes that follow up on the events of the movie, including Nobita and Doraemon repairing and returning the scooter that adult Nobita took, the teenage hooligans being chased by a stray dog, Nobita's family celebrating his birthday, Tamako finding Nobita's hidden test papers, and adult Nobita and Shizuka spending time with each other after their wedding.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The three hooligans that accost Adult!Nobita (stuck in the body of his child self) have no qualms trying to hurt him, despite the massive age gap and the fact that they outnumber him three-to-one. They also threaten Shizuka when she tries to intervene, and get into a fight with Gian, Suneo, and Nobita.
