Media reporting on Real Life drunken driving accidents and deaths often provides Unfortunate Implications. The victims of alcohol-related vehicle crashes in the most common news stories are always the innocent, sober drivers — if teenaged, they're invariably the cheerleaders / Straight-A students / star athletes with a bright future. Meanwhile, the actual drunk driver walks away with minor scratches and bruises. String together enough of these stories, and you get the Family-Unfriendly Aesop that if you're going to be driving at 2:00 AM on a Saturday or Sunday morning, you've got better odds of survival if you've had a few drinks beforehand. Sure, you'll get fined, imprisoned, and have your life generally ruined, but at least you'll still be alive!
