Animated Films:

  • Aladdin: There were rumors of a mutual crush between Brad Kane and Lea Salonga, the singing voices of Aladdin and Jasmine; which was helpful to record "A Whole New World".
  • A small group of Frozen fans like to ship Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, who played sisters Elsa and Anna, together due to their off-screen friendship, mainly as a way for fans who felt that they have chemistry but found "Elsanna" to be squicky, to ship them. Even though both are straight, Bell is married to Dax Shepard, Menzel is married to Aaron Lohr, and both have described their relationship as "sisterly" at most. The pairing has plenty of fanfiction and cute moments edits around the internet, along with their own Portmanteau Couple Name, "Bellzel".

Live-Action Films:

  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel from (500) Days of Summer, so very very much. Fans will not stop about how good their onscreen chemistry was, they did a ukelele duet for a YouTube video and Ellen DeGeneres has told Gordon-Levitt that he and Deschanel would make a good couple. However, Deschanel was engaged to musician Ben Gibbard at the time of filming, though they have since married and divorced. According to someone in the know, they actually did briefly date a long time ago. Gordon-Levitt seems to be pretty quiet about his romantic relationships, though, so you won't find it in the news. And anyway, he currently has a girlfriend.
  • Aladdin (2019): There are many "cute and funny moments" videos on YouTube between Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, despite the fact that the latter is married. Which some comments find it is "too bad".
  • The Amazing Spider-Man Series had Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone being shipped by the press as well. At the time, they were dating.
  • At the time of The A-Team's release, it became popular to ship the four lead actors together, with Liam Neeson/Bradley Cooper, Bradley Cooper/Sharlto Copley, and Sharlto Copley/Quinton "Rampage" Jackson being the most popular pairings. The fact that they all act adorably buddy-buddy in interviews and are still close friends to this day helps these fans. Sharlto and Rampage in particular bonded over their love for the original show and at one point sang the show's theme song during an interview with ABC. Neeson also once revealed that Cooper would always finish Neeson's cigars while they were filming and said that "The camera loves (Cooper)" before describing him as suave but also having "this quick intelligence".
  • Humphrey Bogart did fall in love with and marry his frequent costar Lauren Bacall. Their chemistry was so potent that studio execs recut The Big Sleep to include more scenes of them together. They stayed together until the end of his life.
  • Bollywood has created so many well-known 'jodis' beloved by fans all over the world:
    • Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are, to this day, one of the most popular couples in Bollywood, starting right from when they starred in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge together. It also helped that they starred together in other big hit films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham... as mutual love interests as well.
    • Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan are another popular on-screen couple. The fact that Rai is considered the most beautiful woman in the world and Roshan a man with eyes similar to hers hasn't affected their popularity, and their chemistry in films like Guzaarish, Jodha Akbar, and Dhoom 2 has contributed to many fans shipping them to this day.
  • A lot of Camp Rock fans shipped Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas, who played Official Couple Mitchie and Shane, after the first movie came out. This was helped by the fact that the two ended up dating briefly in 2010. Though they have broken up since, their continued friendship in real life, and them being constantly willing to sing their duets from the films, has helped the ship continue to have a following years later.
  • This happens quite often with Launcher of a Thousand Ships Cate Blanchett. Her large lesbian fanbase simply love shipping her with any female co-stars that she has chemistry with. It started with Rooney Mara after Carol and then Sandra Bullock after the release of Ocean's 8. Also, Sarah Paulson to a slightly lesser extent.
  • Because their chemistry was so natural in Casablanca, Humphrey Bogart's then-wife was certain he was having an affair with Ingrid Bergman. As the story goes, however, the two only met once off the set to have lunch and discuss their issues with the script (both were unhappy with the "unrealistic dialogue").
  • Charlie's Angels (2019): Kristen Stewart and Naomi Scott got hit with a great deal of this after the film's release, largely due to Stewart's reputation and the two of them being very touchy-feely in interviews.
  • The Chronicles of Narnia fandom:
  • The Conjuring Universe: Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who play the adorably happily married Ed and Lorraine Warren in the franchise, are shipped by a lot of people thanks to their phenomenal onscreen chemistry and strong real-life friendship, with many, many youtube videos and comments that they should totally get married — their real-life marriages to other people notwithstanding. They are, however, absolutely adorable in interviews together, and have freely admitted that not only do they love working together, they are genuinely very close with each other and each other's families offscreen.note
Vera: We are family at this point.
  • DC Extended Universe:
    • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:
      • A lot of SuperBat shippers have taken to shipping Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill as well. The two have commented before on their ship name Benry, and Cavill has often made jokes about the Ho Yay between the two's characters. The two have also done multiple interviews where they seem quite close. The pairing has quite a bit of fanfiction and fanvids about them around the internet.
      • Gal Gadot accidentally fueled the flames herself. In a cast interview, she said that she and Amy Adams had become close during the production of Dawn of Justice, even having a family sleepover with their children. Due to her still developing grasp of English, Gadot said she had slept with Adams, raising a few eyebrows from the other actors.
    • Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot and Chris Pine get this a lot due to an almost unbearably adorable look she gave him during an interview.
  • Do Revenge: A few have taken to shipping Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke together due to the chemistry they have in the film and their chumminess in interviews. It helps that Maya admitted during a lie detector test for Vanity Fair that she would take Camilla on a date.
  • According to a (dwindling) subset of Orlando Bloom's fans, he has had a torrid affair with just about every male co-star he has ever appeared with. Not surprisingly, his female co-stars haven't enjoyed the same speculation with the exception of Kirsten Dunst, who he co-starred with in Elizabethtown. Even the tabloid media jumped on the "Blunst" bandwagon.
  • Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were prone to this (and in some cases, still are long after their deaths), due to the ten musicals they starred in together (not helpful in that Ginger is often the only woman remembered as Fred's dance partner). Shippers of the time constantly wrote letters to gossip magazines about how much they wanted the two of them to be together and/or even kiss (however, Fred and Ginger did have one kiss scene a movie). Ironically, the two of them had dated years before they were famous movie stars but continued to be friends for the rest of their lives.
  • Harry Potter fandom:
    • Certain people ship Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. A lot of this was inspired by them both preferring Harry and Hermione over their respective characters' canon couplings.
    • Fans also ship Emma and Tom Felton ("Feltson"). Emma has admitted to having a crush on Tom when they were much younger, which may contribute to the matter. This has also been speculated by Word of God to be why there are so ridiculously many Draco/Hermione fanfics, even though the actual chemistry between the two, on set and in the books, is... debatable, to say the least.
    • Many fans films ship Matthew Lewis and Evanna Lynch (Neville and Luna, respectively), on the basis of them being very close friends and also being adorable.
    • Daniel Radcliff/Tom Felton, who played Harry and Draco, is a fairly popular pairing, what with their adorable friendship and all. They are both apparently quite aware of this.
  • Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens from High School Musical. That one actually sailed strong for five years until their breakup in December 2010.
  • Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson got their own fanbase after playing Katniss and Peeta in The Hunger Games. During filming of Catching Fire, the second film in the series, another shipper base grew around Hutcherson and Sam Claflin, who plays Finnick Odair. Fuel was added to that fire when Claflin talked in an interview about the scene where Finnick gives Peeta CPR and said "My mouth touching his was a beautiful moment. It'll live with me for the rest of my life. We're meant to be together." Nor did it help when Jennifer Lawrence commented on the bromance and called it "annoying".
  • I Care a Lot: A lot of the film's fans cite the chemistry between Rosamund Pike and Eiza González as one of the key pulls. It's helped by Rosamund and Eiza being oddly flirtatious with each other, such as addressing each other as "my wife" during interviews.
  • Some Imagine Me & You fans like to ship Lena Headey and Piper Perabo, who played the forbidden lovers Luce and Rachel, due to their on-screen chemistry. It doesn't hurt that they both appeared in The Cave together and that they have been close friends for years in real life. Never mind that Piper is married to Stephen Kay and both women appear to be straight in real life. Look at most of the comments in this interview they did for the film and you will find fans speculating that they are attracted to each other or saying that they should be a couple in real life due to how adorable they are. The fact that when asked if they felt there should have been more sex scenes, Lena's answer was "Yes definitely. I felt robbed." doesn't help.
  • Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen of Ingrid Goes West have gotten this, thanks to many, many pictures of the two of them being extremely handsy with each other.
  • It isn't unheard of to ship Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder, who have done several different movies together. Shippers jokingly refer to them as being married, due to an incident during the filming of Bram Stoker's Dracula in which a scene where their characters got married was filmed in an actual church with a real priest performing the ceremony.
  • Knives Out: Chris Evans and Ana de Armas were shipped together quite a lot due to their playfulness and chemistry together in promotional material for the movie.
  • The Lord of the Rings:
    • A Vocal Minority of fans were (and in some cases, still are) very passionate about their belief that Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan were/are in a committed romantic relationship that the movie studio and publicists forced them to hide by taking on fake girlfriends—these fans' detractors were the ones to coin the term "tinhat" for this phenomenon.
    • Less prolific but just as passionate were those who believed that Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom were in an identical situation.
    • Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd, being wonderful friends, had their share of shippers... and still have, in spite of still being very close friends. They even have a portmanteau.
    • Sean Bean and Viggo Mortensen shippers, who are still apparently going extremely strong. Never mind that Bean is notoriously heterosexual and married (and divorced). But why would he keep divorcing his wives, hmm?
  • Mamma Mia!: An astonishing number of people seem to ship Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep, even though they are both Happily Married (to Keely Shaye-Smith and Don Gummer, respectively) and have been for quite some time. On the other hand, they quite obviously adore each other, and Pierce once referred to Meryl as "that gorgeous blonde I had a terrible crush on in drama school"...
  • Marvel Cinematic Universe
  • Particularly in the wake of The Matrix Resurrections, people have taken to shipping Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss thanks to their strong onscreen chemistry as legendary science fiction pairing Neo and Trinity. The two are, unsurprisingly, very close friends offscreen and have been since the first film, but that's all.
  • The Maze Runner Series fans have taken to shipping Dylan O'Brien and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, due to the two playing the fandom's most popular ship, Thomas/Newt, and their off-screen friendship. It helps that they almost kissed and fake made out in bloopers for fun. Both actors are well aware of this and love to fuel the fans by playing up their closeness or pretending to flirt.
  • Ever since Les Misérables (2012), some fans would ship Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe since these two happen to be best friends in real life not to mention, their blatant display of bromance in public.
  • Fans of the Mission: Impossible Film Series have started shipping Tom Cruise (Ethan Hunt) with Rebecca Ferguson (Ilsa Faust), his co-star and partner in on-screen UST from Rogue Nation onward. Their chemistry is absolutely undeniable (to the point where Ethan and Ilsa seem set for a relationship upgrade after Fallout), and it definitely carries over into real life. Rebecca is happily married and in any case they really do seem to be just friends, but there's no denying that their friendship is an epically adorable and flirty one.
  • Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. That ship set sail since they did Mr And Mrs Smith and has produced 6 little boats. They separated in 2016, but no doubt they still have their fair share of shippers.
  • The Mummy (1999): Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz's powerful onscreen chemistry was one of the reasons for the film's success, and many who desire a fourth film would like to see the two together onscreen again. This is despite the fact that Weisz is married to Daniel Craig and that they haven't remained close after the films, according to Weisz. It doesn't help that Weisz once described Fraser as "hunky".
  • There are some people who ship River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves, who were both close friends and co-stars on My Own Private Idaho (where Phoenix's character was in love with Reeves'), even though Phoenix has been dead since 1993. The fact that there was rumours that they were kissing outside of a gay nightclub only fuels this.
  • Probably the first time this ever happened in the James Bond series where the actor playing James Bond and the actor playing Bond villain got shipped by the fans, especially after No Time to Die. Most of the fans adored Daniel Craig and Rami Malek together, especially getting flustered at seeing them get cozy together during interviews and especially in Malek's Saturday Night Live where Daniel appeared in two sketches and ended with the former landing on the latter to hug him.
  • Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt became popular during promotion of Passengers (2016). While many people found their onscreen romance creepy due to the circumstances, their playful and flirty chemistry in interviews together tugged a lot of people's heartstrings.
  • Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Logan Lerman and Alexandra Daddario, who played Official Couple Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, are rumored to have dated in real life and even been engaged at one point. This fact, and their flirty banter in interviews, led to many fans shipping them to this day, even after they have long since broken up. They are often referred to as "Logandra" by their shippers.
  • Fans of Pitch Perfect rabidly ship Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow due to the Les Yay between Beca and Chloe. It doesn't help that Anna admitted in an interview that filming the shower scene between Beca and Chloe took so long that she's memorized Brittany's body.
  • A lot of Power Rangers (2017) fans have take to shipping Naomi Scott (Kimberly) and Becky G (Trini) together due to the pair's on-screen chemistry and real life friendship. There is a surprisingly dedicated fanbase for the pairing on Tumblr, which even gave them their own Portmanteau Couple Name Beaomi, and a good number of fan vids for them online. Even the facts that both are in real life relationships (Naomi is married to Jordan Spence and Becky G is dating Sebastian Lletget) and by most accounts appear to be straight, does not deter their shippers in the slightest.
  • While Selena Gomez is a frequent victim of this with her co-stars, none really complete with that of her with Demi Lovato following Princess Protection Program. Though there was already many people shipping them beforehand, this movie cemented it. The two at the time best friends shared a lot of Les Yay together both in the film and while promoting it. They had a YouTube channel together at one point, both were on Barney & Friends, and have known each other since they were kids. The two's song One and the Same also didn't help matters. Some fans have also speculated that Demi's song Stop The World which they introduced as about "being in love with someone you're not supposed to be in love with", was written about Selena. The pairing still continues to have a following years later.
  • Rocketman (2019) fans quickly took to shipping Taron Egerton and Richard Madden due to the pair's real life friendship and interactions in interviews for the film and the pair even have their own Portmanteau Couple Name, Madderton. This is despite the fact that both actors are straight and Egerton being in a committed relationship in real life. There are hundreds of Real Person Fics and fanvids for the pair across the internet. Unfortunately, this has led to a small minority of fans harassing both Egerton's girlfriend and Madden's roommate, Brandon Flynn.
  • The Runaways: While they had previously worked together on Twilight, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning's close friendship while promoting this biopic led many fans of it to ship them. The two would often tease each other, with Kristen at one point pranking Dakota on Jimmy Fallon by recording a message asking how it was to kiss her, and when not doing that, the two would praise each other. Dakota also presented Kristen with an award at the Women In Hollywood Awards, to which Kristen said, "Oh my God, dude I love you so much." The pair's continued friendship has made sure that the pairing still has a following years later.
  • Ever since working together in Silver Linings Playbook, Serena and American Hustle, some fans would ship Jennifer Lawrence with Bradley Cooper. Never mind that Bradley's old enough to be her dad.
  • Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are best friends in real life, which, combined with the Ho Yay in all of their films, makes them easy prey for this trope.
  • Singin' in the Rain has this In-Universe: the gossip interviewer near the start, the "Fan Magazine", and so many fans of "Lockwood and Lamont" shipped them. The gossip interviewer asked if wedding bells were approaching.
  • Andrew Garfield and Jesse Eisenberg from The Social Network. The amount of character bleed from their characters and Andrew's proclamation of love for Jesse in this interview did not help. Giggling, whispering and possible under-the-table activity only solidified suspicions of their heterosexuality. The lift from the 2011 Golden Globes.
  • Tobey Maguire confirmed that there was some of this chemistry between him and Kirsten Dunst on the Spider-Man Trilogy set. He's married (to someone else).
  • Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, as of Sherlock Holmes (2009) and its sequel. Their interactions during interviews really do not help matters.
  • A Star Is Born (2018): Even though Bradley Cooper was romantically involved and the father of a child with Irina Shayk, that hasn't stopped fans from shipping him with Lady Gaga. Their chemistry in this film (and, for that matter, in promo interviews they've made for the film, along with their performance at the 2019 Oscars) is simply that powerful. Gaga for her part has made it clear that anything that looks to be beyond the strong friendship the two genuinely have is only an act and has said she finds it quite flattering toward her acting ability that she could fool so many people. Shortly after the Oscars she also trolled the shippers by saying she was pregnant... with her next album.
  • Star Trek (2009) fans love to ship Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, with tons of fanfics and fan edits that pair them together, which is unsurprising considering the two are playing the characters who basically invented shipping, Kirk/Spock. The two are actually good friends in real life and love to play up their closeness in interviews. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Quinto is actually gay in real life. They even have their own Portmanteau Couple Name, "Pinto". Some fans also ship Pine with Karl Urban (Urbine) and Quinto with Zoe Saldaña.
  • Star Wars:
    • Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher got this a lot from Han/Leia shippers after the rumors of their supposed affair during the production, which was confirmed by Carrie herself on her memoir, The Princess Diarist, before her passing. It went to the point where co-star Mark Hamill also shipped them, even more so by calling them "Carrison" and "Harrie". The name "Carrison" eventually turned up as a chapter title in The Princess Diarist. This still continues, even years after Fisher's death.
Carrie Fisher: It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend.
    • During the days of the Original Trilogy, the fans who loved Luke and Leia's romantic chemistry turned into shipping Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher (nicknamed "Marrie", apparently), due to them being very close in real-life. It was eventually revealed in Carrie Fisher's memoir that Mark indeed had a crush on her during the production of A New Hope.
    • During the days of the Prequel Trilogy, a significant amount of the fans shipped Natalie Portman with Hayden Christensen, nicknamed 'Nayden'. The fact that they briefly dated during production did not hurt either.
    • John Boyega and Daisy Ridley became a ship loved by many, not only for their on-screen chemistry but also for their strong off-screen chemistry (similar to Mark/Carrie), which was further ignited by John Boyega giving her an Affectionate Nickname, "Peanut".
    • Prior to the release of TLJ, Daisy Ridley and Domhnall Gleeson became an equally popular ship thanks to promotional materials, due to Gleeson's seeming awkwardness when around Daisy and both expressing heavy appreciation for each other a LOT.
    • After the release of Rogue One, Felicity Jones and Diego Luna picked up some flames from Jyn/Cassian shippers. Also, Mads Mikkelsen and Ben Mendelsohn got quite a number of shippers after they showed quite a chemistry on interview/events, at least until the former got close to Hideo Kojima.
  • Titanic (1997) fans, and everyone else, continue to ship Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, even though Leo's been with various other women since and Kate is married with three children. Of course, Kate professing her 13-year love for Leo THEN thanking her husband during the 2009 Golden Globes before the audience, Leo giving her a ring with a secret inscription carved inside as a present, and Kate's failing marriage with director Sam Mendes after shooting Revolutionary Road with Leo does NOT help matters. The actors themselves are pretty adamant that at this point they're Like Brother and Sister, and Leonardo is considered a Honorary Uncle by Kate's kids. Still, having such an incredibly beautiful friendship for over two decades, there’s a reason why them beaming at each other is this page’s picture.
  • Triple Frontier co-stars Oscar Isaac (Pope) and Pedro Pascal (Catfish) sometimes get shipped together, especially since their friendship dates further back than the movie does. Even though Isaac remains married to Elvira Lindnote , Vulture praised Pope and Catfish for having the "horniest bromance" of the film, and noted that Isaac and Pascal shared an intimate chemistry when WIRED interviewed both of them during the press tour. (Among other highlights of the interview, the duo answers the question "What languages does Oscar Isaac speak?" by agreeing that he speaks "the language of love!") The actors even have romantic-sounding nicknames and photos of them getting physically close.
  • Twilight film series:
  • James McAvoy appears to be something of a slash whore because the Victor Frankenstein SDCC panel was full of dirty jokes between himself and Daniel Radcliffe. McAvoy infamously pinned Radcliffe against the wall after the host requested that they re-enact a homoerotic scene from the movie. The latter at one point declared, "And a thousand slash fics were born! The actors' ship name is Radavoy, and this is confirmed by James (with Daniel's approval) in this interview. They both demand that shippers write more erotic fanfics about them. Daniel has something of a man crush on his co-star because he reveals in this ''Total Film'' article that he likes being beaten by McAvoy:
Radcliffe: I've enjoyed all aspects of working with [James], but the physical side is one that really sets him apart from a lot of people. He has thrown me around in this film. Pretty much our first day was him repeatedly slamming me against a pillar, so that set the tone. I like to think that I've been the most willing victim he's ever had as an onscreen partner.
  • ''X-Men Film Series':
  • Zendaya is always shipped with her co-stars. She admits that she understands that, since she finds herself playing romantic interest to most of the Internet favorite boyfriends: from Tom Holland in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Timothée Chalamet in Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two, Zac Efron in the The Greatest Showman, to John David Washington in Malcolm & Marie.
