Finishing the Intro?

When we last left off the mako eyed girl, Odette, was just being introduced to our two heroes, Syntic and Yivvy. Of course this introduction is made harder because Yivvy is no where to be seen. While Syntic hasn't figured things out, thinking that Yivvy is still goofing around, Yivvy has realized that she and Syntic are sharing a body. As Yivvy says “Yeah, awkward!!” and I have to agree.

Syntic at first doesn't believe Yivvy, but he is soon convinced when it is revealed that Yivvy can actually control Syntic's body. Yivvy remains calm with the logic, “What else can we do?” and while one might not know what to do, I'm sort of surprised that she's willing to just accept the situation she's found herself in without question.

Odette seems confused, as she should be, but agrees with Yivvy that there isn't much that can be done right now. She does though invite them both along, and this instigates a bit of a conversation between Yivvy and Syntic on who's the boss of Syntic's body. It is after this conversation that we finally gain control our selves (thus proving that neither Yivvy or Syntic are in charge of his body, but instead I am). Odette says she needs to stop someplace before taking us to the Inn, but in actuality it turns out to be a full blown tour of the island.

While the conversation of control is short lived right now, I do have some thoughts I want to share. First of all, Yivvy was oblivious that it wasn't her body until she saw Syntic's reflection in the water. This suggests that she was in full control over Syntic's body even before she attempted to pull Syntic out of the water, or else she would have noticed her body going in the wrong direction when she was trying to look around the clearing. However, when Syntic was looking around the clearing he didn't notice it wasn't himself in control until Yivvy overtly took control with the whole water thing. This suggests that Syntic was in full control because if he wasn't then he would have noticed his body going in the wrong direction sooner.

However, as it seems both are in complete control yet neither noticed that the other was in control, a new idea comes to mind. Neither had ever been in control and they are both normally content to just let there subconscious run the show. This might sound horrible and unobservant of them, but honestly most people act this way anyways. For instance if you wear a wrist watch, then you might have noticed that if you ever look at your watch and right after that someone asks you for the time, you'll look at it again even though no significant amount of time has passed.

So when it comes to Syntic and Yivvy controlling the body, I would assume that for the most part be that as long as either of them can believe that they made the decision to do something, that they'll have no reason to believe that they did not decide to do something. That might seem confusing, but I find that less confusing that how much of a non-issue this game has made two characters inhabiting the same body to be.

Anyways, we continue now with our tour of this quaint little island, with us first going down De Sainte-Coquille Lane (Saint-Shell Lane?). It's apparently called that because De Sainte-Coquille Mansion is located on here. Of course our first stop has nothing to do with the mansion, and is instead the blacksmith's shop. While we don't actually go inside we do learn that the blacksmith is another girl. Quick count of characters here: 1 guy, 3 girls.

Before continuing with our tour, we are interrupted by a dragon's roar. Despite me hoping that someone will get chomped on this time, we encounter no such event. We do learn on the other hand that instead of the loads of dragons that our heroes knew of, this island only has one dragon. It is the guardian of this island and we just so happen to be speaking with a dragon priestess as well as inn keeper.

We also learn that this island is named Fenith Island, and that was the name of the island that Syntic and Yivvy are both from. They are confused how they don't know each other (time travel), and Yivvy points out that the buildings are different (time travel), and that the tree by the pond is so much bigger (time travel). Syntic points out that the biggest difference is the population count of the dragons (time travel). It is Odette that suggests the obvious answer... parallel world.

Syntic is doubtful, but not for the reason that I am. His reason is that he's not sure that is even possible. So says the guy with a girl that can control his body. Odette mentions that she heard that there were a lot of dragons on the island hundreds of years ago (so she's going to stick with the parallel world theory).

However when the characters try to talk about this more and suggest what might be going on, Odette says that she MUST finish the tour and get home or her sister is going to be upset. Wow mood swing much. Seriously here are a couple of people from what you think is a parallel world (I personally think they are just from the past), and she's not at all interested in that. She has to be sure to show them important buildings... like this blacksmith shop we are at right now. Hey Odette how about you show us to a library so we can see if there are any books about this sort of thing. Let's be proactive about this shared body experience, instead of just accepting it. No? Ok then onto the next location.

We then go back the way we came, so that she can show us the bathhouse. She tells us to remember to bathe daily, and then we move on. Wow Mako Eyes, can you focus? We passed this building to get to the blacksmith's shop. You couldn't have shown us the building then? And also, is this game going to even address the issue of Syntic and Yivvy bathing “together”?

She next takes us to the plaza where festivals and other events happen, and down the street to the church. It is here that we meet the character that I have decided to hate the most in this game. Father Gerard, is not just gay but flamboyantly gay. Watching him wiggle his tush in joy is one of the most disturbing images I have ever seen a video game character create. He then goes on to hit on Syntic with no hint of subtly. Before things can get more painful, some yelling inside the church has the Father departing. “Ta-Ta”

Before they leave the church though Yivvy notices a bell, and Odette explains that this is the place where weddings are held. Blah blah blah. Ok I don't care, and apparently neither does Syntic. We then travel back to where we just were, and now visit the Mansion. The mansion is owned by a Lady Beatrix who used to be rich and but isn't anymore. While here we are introduced to Maerwen, who seems happy to see Odette, but seems curious who we are. Syntic claims she's being rude by asking who he is, even though he's clearly the new comer. She explains that she's a dark elf and I don't care. Well she doesn't say that last part, but actually she doesn't care who we are anymore now. It's just as well, I didn't really care about learning who she was right now.

Now we finally get to the street with the inn on it, but before we can stop there we have to first stop at the general store and be introduced to yet another female character. This character sees us as a new guest and says “good for your business”, but apparently Odette has decided instead of us being paying customers that we are to stay at the guest house free of charge. This is truly a strange world. At least Animal Crossing had that lone shark of a raccoon. This new character is Sierra who is the first person aside from Odette to be introduced to Yivvy. Sierra is at first confused, but soon just takes it in stride that Yivvy inhabits the same body as Syntic. Sierra then invites Yivvy and Odette to go play, though her invitation doesn't seem to include Syntic. Not fully sure how that would work, but whatever.

Instead of going to go play Odette finishes up her tour by showing us the “Three Sisters Inn” named for obvious reasons. From there we finally go up the road to the the cottage, where I'm hopping we can save the game, but before we go in Yivvy sees a seed on the ground that she insists that Syntic plant. When Syntic says he doesn't want to (mirroring my own opinion at this point) Yivvy says that if he doesn't she'll just take control and do it anyways. Odette starts to ask if Yivvy and Syntic are a couple, but Syntic is quick to announce that they are just friends. Yivvy makes no comment on that matter and instead refocuses them on the IMPORTANT matter of planting that dang seed.

So as they head back up to the cabin after taking the two seconds to plant the seed, I assume either this seed is going to Jack and the Bean Stalk into the hugest thing they have ever seen, or it will be a game progression tree getting larger as we accomplish goals in the game.

Inside the cabin, Odette says she's going to let us barrow the place (very nice of her considering the Inn is called the Three Sisters Inn, and she hasn't even consulted the other two). The very first thing she shows us is the bed (hey I don't know what you are thinking girl, but we just meant, and I currently have another girl sharing my body). Next she shows us the calendar and adds Syntic's and Yivvy's birthday on it, but doesn't add her own. She even says when we learn such things, they'll be added automatically so it seems strange nobody thought to even ask about her birthday.

We also have a storage trunk, bookshelf, and a diary. It is at this time we are finally able to save the game, and I eagerly take advantage of this opportunity. Hopefully when I come back, I'll finally be able to do what I want, instead of be involved in this never ending tour of the island. By the way current character count: 1 guy, 7 girls, and 1 Father Gerard. I think I've miscounted on the number of female characters we've been told about, and I'm sure there are more.
