44: The Fated Final Confrontation Between Alex and...?

Stage 8-5: Burning Spirit

"Hey...who turned the Boss BGM on?" says Steve. "I'm pretty sure we're not at the end of the episode yet."

"Don't worry about it," says Meredith. "Just roll with it. We probably won't be hearing this song again."

The team wonders what sort of weirdness Alex has cooked up for them, as they're approached by a single Incubus, who goes down in a Single-Stroke Battle against Miyako. However, it turns out that the incubus was just a mere scout for another group of lesser demons, and thus was expendable. Tessa doesn't take kindly to being blasted by one of the demons' Giga Fire spell, so she Mega Lasers it into oblivion with her Justice Gear. Goldie finds the scenery too boring and ugly, and starts destroying as much of it as possible with the Gear Metal LEX. The other two Incubuses have very powerful magic at their disposal. One Mega Fire bolt knocks out Meredith, while a Mega Ice spell is enough to give Steve a scare (it shaves about half of his HP). Zetta decides that he's had enough, and orders them to hurry up and finish the battle so that he can get on with his duel against Alex.

Alex is proud enough of Zetta's resilience, and says that he's worthy of being his life-long nemesis. However, he plans to put an end to Zetta right there, but is interruped by Trombe! Salome! She says to herself that there's little time for her to enact her plan, and that Zetta doesn't need to waste his time on a loser like Alex.

Stage 8-6: Alexander's Last Stand

Salome is acting as Zetta's stand in for this duel. Both have epic equipment befitting of overlords, but Salome has a distinct stats advantage over Alex, with astounding magical power and more-than-perfect magic resistance. None of Zetta's minions are capable of scratching either, so he orders them to stay behind.

Salome starts the battle off early with a blast of fire magic. Alex counters with a Thunder Drum, one much more powerful than the one used by Raiden, but barely enough to scratch Salome. Unfazed, Salome opens up a can on him and sends the God of Destruction reeling with a flurry of lightning-fast knife strikes. Alex grimaces, realizing that he'd been cheated out of his promised final duel, and lost to someone theoretically weaker tham him. Salome tells him that she's simply that much more powerful, even without her magic. As Alex retreats, she falls to the ground and starts spewing Blood from the Mouth. Zetta asks if she's purposely trying to speed up her own demise.

"You're...the strongest Overlord, Zetta," she says sorrowfully. "Since I left...you've gained...so much power... Tell me...how it felt to...become the strongest...in...the Universe..."

"Why does it matter?" asks Zetta.

"Just tell me, please... How did it feel?"

"It felt great. I've never felt so proud and elated as I did then."

"I see...I'm glad to hear that." She then turns to him and asks, "Zetta...do you love me?"

"Not that crap again!" Zetta groans. "You're so weak because you let emotions cloud your judgment!"

"Heh...I knew you wouldn't...answer me," says Salome, even though Zetta did respond to her. "Can you...do me a favor?"

"What is it?"

Salome's voice grows weaker and sadder as she asks, "Will you marry me...Zetta?"

Episode 8 END. But wait! What's going to happen next? Where did Alexander disappear to? Why did Salome ask Zetta to marry her all of a sudden, even though she appears to be on the verge of permanent death? How much does Trenia know about Pram's scheming? And what the hell is the deal with King Drake III? Tune in next week as we attempt to answer at least some of these questions in the final episode of Makai Kingdom: Liveblog of the Sacred Tome!
