15: Pink Elephant in the Barnyard

Yet another rainy day...but just like clockwork, Anette manages to start her rounds at 6:45 sharp, rain or snow (no storms, though). She gives Raguna a letter from Selphy, who's got a hankerin' for a hunk of bamboo rice. Rice doesn't get put up for sale until the bar opens up. Danny's shop would be the ideal place to get this sort of thing in the mean time, but it doesn't have much of anything to sell, and therefore, sucks.

In a break from tradition, Raguna takes Puyo up, up, up to Whale Island to do some monster hunting...both defeat and friendship. He tries to give the first Goblin he sees that good old loving touch, but Puyo is having none of it, and smacks it down with one hit.

Since the goblin failed the strength test, Raguna presses onward past the hot spring to find a new monster ally. One of the Orcs  1

"passes" the friendship test, and becomes the latest member of Raguna's new monster party. As he and Puyo continue to crawl through the floating dungeon, they come across a pink elephant, expecting it to attack. All it does it walk around in a circle around Raguna and leaves.

Whale Island seems to be plentiful with different-colored herbs for potion-making and minerals for mining, so Raguna makes it a point to grab as much as he can while he has the energy. They walk past a sealed door and a pillar with a slot for inserting a Rune stone. Unfortunately, Raguna doesn't have anything like that, so he moves outside to what appears to be one of the island's fins. The area is pletiful with Woolies (those sheep-monsters Anette was walking around with at the beginning) and Buffamoos (the cow/buffalo hybrid Raguna encountered in the Green Ruins). After fighting a few of the Buffamoos, Raguna eventually finds the Hard Horn he needs for Kanno. He returns to the surface to turn over his trophy, and it looks like Kanno has everything he needs for his experiment, but he isn't saying what it is just yet.

Cinnamon is in the other room, looking at books. She tells Raguna that if he goes to the observatory at night, he can look to the sky and see constellations.

Speaking of books, Raguna now has enough money to buy up what's left of Selphy's "for sale" stock. She is strangely happy about this.  2

Before finishing up for the day, he goes to Rita's and purchases some rice so that he can make his recipe for Selphy. He hands it over to Annie on her next mail run, and then goes back to work on his farm. When he goes to check on the monsters from his farm, he sees the pink elephant sitting in a corner, all by itself. Raguna wonders why it decided to park itself in his living space, and how it even got off the island in the first place with all of the hostile monsters around. It doesn't respond to his brushing, so he leaves it alone and concentrates on the ones that will listen to him, for he has big plans today...  3
