Hello and Other Important Warnings

Cinematech: Nocturnal Emissions was a show on the G4 network that ran for 78 episodes from August 31st, 2005 to April 6th, 2007. It was a Darker and Edgier spinoff of Cinematech, a straighter example of a Video Games clip show. This liveblog will review and MST the clips and games that I consider the most interesting from the series' run for various reasons. Who knows, we might just learn something! But the boring episodes where we don't learn anything will be skipped.

Please note that the original Cinematech: Nocturnal Emissions series was generally rated TV-14, and featured games that were unrated by the ESRB. Some links may be NSFW!

Why would I do a liveblog on Cinematech Nocturnal Emissions before the original Cinematech? Well, frankly, I think that, as fun as Nocturnal Emissions was, the original is ultimately better. One day, I may get around to doing a liveblog for that, too.

I'm putting this under Games in the index because this is not a straight example of a cartoon or a live action TV program. It's all about Video Games, anyway.

Since this is my first-ever attempt at a liveblog, comments, criticisms, and suggestions are welcome, but not necessary.

While we are still in the intro stage, I need to explain that the timecodes for certain clips are important. Some are more important than others, but I feel a need for continuity here. Dialog taken from the games receive their own bullets, and the speaker's names/titles will be written in bold. Lyrics will be listed in the ever-edgy italics. Sometimes, I may comment on the dialog itself.

With that out of the way, it's time to spoil some of the tropes that will appear in this liveblog, in no particular order...

Ear Worm, Fanservice, Fan Disservice, Jiggle Physics, Bishōnen, Widget Series, Anime, So Bad, It's Good, No Export for You, Nightmare Fuel, Hentai, Squick, Selective Squick, Gorn, and What Do You Mean, It's Not Awesome?. I think that'll cover it for now.

I actually have a demo of Sky Gunner, back from when Official U.S. Playstation Magazine still existed. It was fun as hell, and made me want the game, but now it's extremely hard to find.

Also lol Kingpin. Soldier of Fortune was a much better game during that period, and IT got a sequel as proof.

Also lol Des Blood. Took me forever to figure out what the deal with that... thing... was.

I have that same demo! I would like to get a copy myself. The game seems utterly charming.

Yeah, I don't remember much about Kingpin. The old Gamespot TV show didn't like it very much IIRC.
