Foreword: Here's how this is gonna go down.

Firstly, welcome to Let's Play The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. For those of you who have been living under a rock aren't informed, this is a Wide-Open Sandbox game which relies on a lot of Mid-to-High Fantasy tropes. I'll leave it at that for now, since a lot of the story hooks are at the very beginning.

Secondly, I do have mods on. Most of them are either fluff/environment related or bugfix patches. Just to make sure you're up to speed, I'll list my mods here:

I am using:

  • The Unofficial Oblivion Patch/DLC Patch/Shivering Isles Patch
  • Morrowind and Daggerfall Books
  • Faster Arrows (150%) and More Arrows Recovered
  • Natural Habitats, Natural Vegitation, Natural Water, and Natural Weather
  • S.P.A.M. (Alternate player advancement system: Relies on class)
  • Persuasion overhaul (Relies more on what individual people actually care about instead of that lining-up-dials bullshit)
  • And all the official DLC (including Horse Armor)

Thirdly, you're going to see lots of variation in the text, mainly because I intend to do this as in-character as possible. If I have something to say that is out of character, I'll separate it with quoteblocks, and it'll be marked as "Shlapintogan says" or "Shlapintogan's notes" or something. If I need to quote someone other than my character, I'll put it in boldtext, and if a particularly important quest update shows up, I'll put it in bold italics. There will, of course, be moments when I need to emphasize things that I'm saying in-character. As a rule of thumb, quotes will be longer than a few words, but I'm sure that would've been pretty obvious anyway.

Fourthly (we're almost done, I promise), I'm going to lay out what class and race combination I'm going to play beforehand. I will be playing an Argonian Assassin, because Oblivion is one of the few games (aside from Deus Ex and the Metal Gear series) where I like playing a stealthy character. Unfortunately, this has the nasty side effect of being unfairly gamebreaking, so I've ramped the difficulty slider as far to the "hard" side as I could. I hope you won't mind. Also, this is going to be very silly. I don't expect you to take much of what I do seriously, even though it'll lead to quest completion, I'm going to play it well on the stupid, awesome side. If you're looking for a playthrough that is more serious about matters in the game, then you've come to the wrong place.

Finally, screenshots will be taken, but they'll probably be less frequent than most other screenshot LPs. Whenever I take one, I'll include it in whichever part it's in.

Laconic Version: Shlap's playing Oblivion as an Argonian Assassin in a very absurd manner with mods on. Ham Ensues.

And that's all I've really got to say for the opening. In the next part, we'll actually start the game, and that should be up not too long from now. So let's get started, shall we?
