Thanks to a minor dispute I got into with Rottweiler, I've finally decided to take the time to read The Song Of Roland. For those of you who don't know, The Song Of Roland is loosely inspired by a historical event that occurred in the late 8th century, when an army of Basques ambushed a part of Charlemagne's army in northern Spain. However, thanks to Memetic Mutation, the battle soon turned into an Epic Battle between the Christians and Muslim Spanish. It finally cumulated in the work we're reading tonight. I'm really hoping that the prose- if not the research- of this work is good, considering the fact that it spawned an entire Fandom in the Middle Ages and is still read today.

Surgeon's General Warning (Rott, this means you): This liveblogging will probably contain much Deadpan Snarkery and Alternate Character Interpretation. Please read at your own risk.

Ah. Had to read excerpts of this in my French literature class. I hope you are ready for an impossibly long death scene ( It shouldn't be a spoiler that Roland dies at the end).

Good luck.
