Hey, after my failed attempt at Liveblogging known as Let's Play ZHP, I thought I'd try a different approach:
We're watching Stargate SG-1. Spanning 10 years and 10 seasons, this is quite a long runner. Will I make it that far? Only one way to find out!
A couple of things, though. I will provide a summary to the series' two-episode pilot, episode three, and then actually simultaneously watch and write starting with episode 4: “Emancipation”. I... haven't actually seen the preceding movie, but know it's general storyline and will try to make as much sense as possible. If there are any backstory-related questions, just leave it in the comments.

The two-episode pilot, Children of the Gods, begins in the Cheyenne Mountain military complex, where the Stargate has been stored. So, what's this Stargate thing? It's basically a giant stone ring with a set of symbols on 'em: chevrons. If these chevrons are 'dialed' in a specific order, it opens up a portalway to the planet that corresponds with the chevron sequence. Anyway, a military officer is kidnapped by a couple of weird Egyptian-looking soldiers with awesome snake helmets, led by another weird Egyptian looking commander with awesome snake helmet; only his is gold instead of black.
Because these guys came through the Stargate, the US Military summons retired army officer Jack O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) to lead a team through the Stargate to find out what the hell's going on. Believing that it's the only planet they can access through the gate, they head for Abydos, the location of the movie. Also on the team are Major Kawalsky, an old buddy of O'Neill's, and Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), a scientist. O'Neill doesn't like scientists.
In Abydos, O'Neill reunites with Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), an archeologist and linguistics expert, who, together with O'Neill in the movie, saved Abydos from the 'System Lord', Ra, and decided to stay in Abydos to help the locals and to be able to keep his ancient Egyptian beauty, Sha're. O'Neill also reunites with Skaara, who's a nice kid.
They head out see something Jackson found; a room filled with hieroglyphs. Jackson figured out that it's a map room with coördinates and codes for the Stargate, which Carter can update to give us a whole slew of NEW WORLDS TO DISCOVER! :D

But when they get back, it turns out the snake guys have been visiting too, and kidnapped a few innocent people, including (surprise surprise) Sha're and Skaara! One of the soldiers guarding them managed to memorize the chevron sequence, however, which means that O'Neill and friends can access the planet later. But that's not all: some of the locals have pointed out that the guy in the golden snake armor is Ra. The guy they blew up. That can't be good.
Back on Earth, these developments are processed. The possibility of many new planets to visit causes the leader of the complex, General Hammond (Don S. Davis), to form a number of teams with the objective to lead expeditions to these planets through the Stargate. O'Neill leads SG-1, consisting of Carter and, after some discussion, Jackson. SG-2 will be lead by Kawalsky, and these two teams are sent off together to the planet the snake guys headed off to. They walk through the Stargate, and so ends part one.
Again, these first summaries are mostly written for the sake of describing everything in the show, so if you thought this was boring or not detailed enough, I apologize with the promise that I hope to have a much improved format of writing after episode 3.
