This would be when the hero's or protagonist's hired help turns out to be the antagonist or the villain. It works in the plural too (main character or characters hire one or more assistants). Examples also include situations where the hired person or persons betray the main characters on behalf of a third party of antagonists.

  • Treasure Island and its various adaptations wherein the hired crew turn out to be villainous pirates.

Live-Action TV

  • The security detail for an event in an episode of Earth: Final Conflict turn out to be liberationists who kidnap Da'an.

I'm sure there are other examples but it's been a long day and I'm tired. Sorry for this kinda lackluster TLP.
