* BrokenBase: HUGE arguments arose in the wake of Episode 7's rant. Mostly over what it means to be a good friend and whether or not Andou or Hatoko were being selfish. Most agreed that both had a hand in it, but there's still some still debate over exactly who was to blame for letting the situation get as far as it did. There's also a perception on how Hatoko is seeking attention over being jealous of Andou apparently dating Tomoyo in the preceding episode.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Mirei Kodou. Every single episode was followed by demands to bring her back.
* FanNickname: Because of the similarity in concept, some have taken to calling the BattleRoyale revealed in episode 8, the [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Fairy Grail War]] or some variation thereof.
* FridgeBrilliance:
** Why didn't Mirei block Andou's power before stealing it, as she always does? She needed to be shown that it's actually received an upgrade, instead of dismissing it as one of his chuuni rants.
** Why didn't Andou's hand stop burning after she stole it in Episode 12? [[spoiler: Once it starts burning it can never stop, with or without the powers!]]
* HilariousInHindsight: Hatoko's infamous "I don't understand" rant feels very similar to the much later "Please stop saying dumbass things" meme.
* MemeticMutation: Hatoko's epic rant at Andou in Episode 7, especially the line "I just don't understand!"
* MisaimedFandom: Hatoko's rant in Episode 7 has been interpreted as a criticism of EvilIsCool. It's often cited out-of-context, accusing someone who likes "dark and edgy" stuff of being a KnowNothingKnowItAll, or poking fun at pseudo-intellectuals who "read things on the Internet" and use them to sound smart without knowing what they really mean. In context, Hatoko was either ranting at Andou because she ''genuinely'' didn't understand the things he was talking about, earnestly wanting to connect with him but failing, or because Hatoko was jealous over Andou dating Tomoyo in the previous episode and tried to seek Andou's attention.
* {{Narm}}: Again, Hatoko's rant. People who haven't seen the series and have just seen the rant usually can't tell if the scene was supposed to be serious or comedic. In context, it's meant to be serious; she's frustrated at not being able to understand all the obscure references and nerdy jokes her best friend makes because he now has other people in his life, including her rival for his affections, who understand them all perfectly. As such, she feels like their friendship is strained. Unfortunately, the camera work doesn't convey this very well; it's ''very'' clear that the production team saw this scene as a good place to save money. While the scene being just one character screaming at another for two-and-a-half straight minutes makes it a pretty logical place to do so, the method feels sloppy, with several shots just being repeated and flipped, over and over. The most egregious of these is a random, out-of-place shot between her thighs that's used a few times throughout.
* NoYay: [[spoiler: Chifuyu's]] LoveEpiphany for Andou in Episode 9 made a few people feel ''really'' uncomfortable, due entirely to the fact that she's only in elementary school.
* RonTheDeathEater: Andou already got a lot of flak just for being a Chuuni, but in the aftermath of Episode 7, many fans declared they outright hated him and called him selfish, unkind and undeserving of any of the girls' affection. Doesn't help that said episode also had a character in-universe question why Hatoko even bothers to deal with him, claiming he's always taken her for granted.
** This hatred is especially unjustified when you consider how Andou used to act before he became a Chuuni and exactly who it was that made him a Chuuni.
* ShipToShipCombat: Full sail! Arm the cannons! Commence the shipping battles as of episode 9 when all of the main girls discuss their feelings for Andou with others. [[{{Tsundere}} Tomoyo X Andou]] and [[PatientChildhoodLoveInterest Hatoko X Andou]] are the two most popular ships, and the two most aggressively pushed by fans.
* SignatureScene: Hatoko's rant from Episode 7, which comes completely out of nowhere and is a massive MoodWhiplash for a show that was otherwise a happy-go-lucky slice of life series.
* SoOkayItsAverage: ''When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace'' is highly unique among Studio Trigger's oeuvre in that it's... a SliceOfLife LightNovel adaptation about a kooky school club. Unlike the distinctive and stylish shows it's sandwiched between, this is strictly the kind of post-''Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya'' anime that Japanese studios had been churning out for almost a decade at this point. It's a clever idea with enjoyable characters, but general consensus view it as having a lack of focus and uneven execution that make it feel pretty cookie cutter as far as anime goes, especially by Studio Trigger standards.
* TearJerker:
** Hatoko's explosion at Andou. Creator/SaoriHayami delivers one of the most intense performances of her career while Hatoko's tears flow and voice crumbles.
** Whether or not you think Mirei had it coming for acting so gullible, she also really seemed hurt with her early rejection, trying without success to hold back her tears (before the outright ShipToShipCombat even began). And then of course she's PutOnABus and banished to the [[GreenRooming green room]], which seems like meta insult to injury.
** Tomoyo, Hatoko, and Chifuyu breaking down crying after having to [[spoiler: cut off Andou's hand again, along with Mirei's hand, to save their lives. The first time they had to witness it, they were already badly shaken up by it]]. Even if everything turned out okay, it's understandable that it would be too much to take in for them.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Mirei. Cute, funny, ''refreshingly'' straightforward about her feelings, and has a very interesting power, yet she's had almost no presence past her DayInTheLimelight episode.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: A lot on both sides in regard to Kiryu and his team of super-powered friends in Episode 8.
** Some people would prefer the story was about them [[spoiler: and the Fairy War]] entirely and that their story and personalities are more interesting that the harem rom-com of the Literature Club.
** Others feel that dedicating an episode to an infodump that doesn't further the story of the Literature Club took away from an arc that should have focused more heavily on Andou and Hatoko's conflict and reconciliation.
** Others still think that a GenreShift towards a more standard shounen battle series involving both groups would have been better.
* ValuesDissonance: Jurai's pledge of being a Lolicon as a normal lifestyle doesn't sit well with Western audiences, as most Western countries don't [[ComedicLolicon view pedophilia as something to make lighthearted jokes about]].
