* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** Using [[Music/{{Cake}} "Short Skirt, Long Jacket"]] over Jim and Jenna's hilarious sexcapades.
** The recurring theme of "Ride of the Valkyries" whenever Jenna is about to deliver a verbal smackdown.
** From the musical, "She Used To Be Mine", and "Club Knocked Up" could be seen as this.
* DiagnosedByTheAudience: Dawn seems to have some severe social anxiety, as explained in "When He Sees Me", and shows some characteristics of having Aspergers Syndrome.
%% * EnsembleDarkhorse: Ogie, along with his {{Adorkable}} poems. The musical only amplified this.
* HarsherInHindsight: Dawn's fear that her blind date might be a serial killer may serve as this after Adrienne Shelly's real-life murder.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** The actress who plays Creator/NathanFillion's wife in the film shows up as his ex-wife on ''Series/{{Castle|2009}}''.
** Also, Jenna's usual OBGYN is named Dr. Muller, which is the same last name of actress, Creator/JessieMueller who originated the role of Jenna on Broadway.
* MoralEventHorizon: Earl slapping Jenna across the face takes an already irredeemable character and makes him beyond irredeemable. Audiences gasped at this moment when the film played in theaters.
%% * RealitySubtext: Some shade of it. According to the commentary, Adrienne Shelley did have 5-minutes dates.
%% * RetroactiveRecognition:
%% ** Matlock/Sheriff Andy owns a pie shop.
%% ** [[WesternAnimation/WonderWoman2009 Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor]] have a steamy love affair.
%%** Or [[{{Series/Firefly}} Captain Tightpants]] and Series/{{Felicity}}.
%%** [[Series/SixFeetUnder Billy Chenowith]] plays Jenna's husband.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Ogie refusing to take "no" as an answer while pursuing Dawn is meant to force Dawn to get over her insecurities and give him a chance, as they do ultimately have the happiest relationship in the story after getting to know each other. However, without knowing where their story is going, Ogie's introduction makes him look like a creepy stalker who insists he and Dawn belong together even though she's quite uncomfortable, assuming that her pushing him away is just playing "hard to get." This is softened slightly in the musical, since Dawn and Ogie are shown having a mutual attraction from their first introduction, but the stalking aspect remains.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForLittleGirls: There are a lot of little girls who love the musical, despite it having cursing, sexual scenes, and adult themes that would go over a kid's head. An early example of this would be the song "The Negative", which is centered around the results of Jenna's pregnancy test.
%% * TheWoobie: Jenna, so much.
%% ** Jim's face after Jenna tells him to leave the diner may cause one to try and hug their screen.
