* EliminationHoudini: The winners of seasons two and five, Dorothy and Mark, definitely had luck on their sides. In ''The Next Betrayal'', Elavia accepted a $50,000 bribe to leave the game in place of an elimination. This spared Dorothy, who scored the lowest on the quiz that night and would have been executed. Mark failed the quiz ''three times'' and only escaped execution by finishing faster than the eliminated players.
** Creator/KathyGriffin also had luck on her side during the first Celebrity Edition. During the final episode, it was revealed that more than once, she had tied for the ''lowest'' score of all the contestants (including a couple of times when she didn't get a single question right.) What saved her was her strategy of completing the test as fast as possible, since the show's tie-breaker was who finished the test fastest.
** Invoked by the show itself in one episode of the Belgian series's 5th season where each contestant only knew the color of their own screen and the one who saw a red screen was given a chance to avoid elimination if the others wrongly guessed who they were. In this case, the contestant who should have gone home ''did'' succeed in staying (at the expense of the contestant who did the second-worst on the test), [[ShaggyDogStory but was eliminated in the very next episode]].
** In season 6 of the Belgian series, Joke [[RealJokeName (yes, that really is her name)]] would have been eliminated in the first episode had she not completed her test faster than Kelly. When she was finally executed at the final five, she was the only remaining contestant who hadn't figured out who the Mole was.
** In the Netflix season, [[spoiler:runner-up Joi spent the entire game believing eventual winner William was the Mole]]. In retrospect, [[spoiler:her even getting to be on the game that long was a pretty decent "pay" day, since she definitely wasn't going to win, although part of the reason why she lasted so long was because she was very good at causing others to wrongly suspect her of being the Mole]].
* EvenBetterSequel: Fans generally prefer the second Anderson Cooper season over the first season, though both are well liked. Part of this has to do with Creator/AndersonCooper becoming more lighthearted and [[DeadpanSnarker jokey]] with the players than how he was shown on the first season.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Still one of the most popular shows in the Netherlands after 18 seasons.
** Thanks to English {{Fan Sub}}s, the Dutch and Belgian series have attracted a devoted North American/British fanbase with the UK game show blog [[http://www.bothersbar.co.uk/ Bother's Bar]] running a "Suspect List" game every year for the Dutch series. An English reality TV podcast even managed to get Gilles de Coster, the host of the Belgian series, [[https://rtvwarriors.wordpress.com/2018/05/12/looking-very-belgian-a-de-mol-special-with-gilles-de-coster/ as a guest on one of their De Mol podcasts]] in which Gilles expressed amazement at his discovery that the Belgian series had passionate fans in North America and UK too.
* NauseaFuel: The "Lookie Lookie Hot Pepper" and "Leftovers" tasks from U.S. seasons 3 and 4, respectively, which involved players showing partially chewed food (in the former) or Mark eating the other players' unfinished dinner to the point of retching.
* RewatchBonus: Rewatching a season with knowledge of the Mole's identity can be quite fun in seeing all the Mole's subtle sabotages and manipulation of the other players.
