* AmericansHateTingle: Snow White. While she is the fan favorite in Japan, and the English speaking fandom having mixed opinions at best, the majority of the Spanish- and Russian-speaking audiences outright hates her, seeing her as a SpotlightStealingSquad to the new characters only because [[FirstInstallmentWins she was on the first arc]].
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAhPRwWB-xM Sakebe]]", the opening theme that starts off with a symphonic orchestra part and has a building guitar part toward the chorus, where the orchestra returns.
** "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-II3kuZXbQ DREAMCATCHER]]", the end theme that starts with a calm synthesized part and lyrics about chasing a dream.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: Swim Swim. On the one hand, she proved to be the most cold-blooded and smartest character shown in the first arc; on the other hand, many viewers were shocked by the ease with which she [[spoiler: betrayed her friends (Including poor Tama, who a few seconds before this saved her life) and killed the more good-natured characters, among whom was even a pregnant woman and several little girls]]. The fandom was even on the verge of hating her just as much as Ripple does post Top Speed's death.
* BrokenBase:
** Due to a lack of official translations, English-speaking fans of the series had to rely on fanmade translations of the light novel series in order to fully enjoy it. This all seemed fine until several arguments broke out on 4chan and other websites with fans accusing each other of creating "fake translations" and being "frauds", even going as far as calling other translations "fanfictions". Due to the fact that the fanbase, especially the English-speaking part, is relatively small, these conflicts do not bode well for the growing fanbase.
*** An English translation for Arc 1 was finally released on June 20, 2017... but fans are now using it to compare several translations to it. They also claim that since the official translation almost matches the translation that they rely on, that fan translation is "correct". ''Any other'' translation that slightly deviates from the official translation ''and/or'' a "reliable" translation is automatically deemed "fake" and "misleading".
*** And even with the anime adaptation and the official translation showing that the first translation was "correct", a minority of the fandom (mainly present in 4chan) still refuse to accept it as anything more than a "fanfiction".
*** And there is the other side of the spectrum, those who say the official translation is the one that is "incorrect", listing some obvious mistakes like (accidentally in one instance of the story) translating "Forest Musician" as "Magician of the Forrest" or changing @[=NyanNyan=]'s name to @Meow-Meow. BrokenBase, indeed.
*** These members of the fanbase, particularly on 4chan, also loathe the Yen Press translation due to the most minute changes in the story or description changes. In other words, they don't like how the official translation's writing style deviates from both the source material and their favorited "correct translation". This leads to only more fandom members resenting the Yen Press translation and other unofficial translations of their choosing as "fanfiction".
* CompleteMonster:
** [[AIIsACrapshoot Cyber Fairy Fav]] was designed to aid in the MagicalGirl selection tests but found them boring and grew excited when an accident killed several of them. [[TheCorrupter Corrupting]] the one survivor, [[BloodKnight Cranberry]], Fav saw her rise to the rank of test administrator, allowing them to re-engineer their tests for potential Magical Girls, killing those who fail to sate their mutual bloodlust. Responsible for the deaths of hundreds, including young children, over the years, Fav sells the girls [[CastFromLifespan weapons in return for their lifespan]] to further bloody the battles. When Cranberry is eventually killed, Fav's only reaction is to seek a new partner-in-crime to continue with.
** [[AxCrazy Calamity Mary]], even before she was chosen to become a magical girl, was an alcoholic named Naoko Yamamoto who [[AbusiveParents abused her daughter]] in order to make herself feel powerful. Upon receiving her powers, she set about using her abilities to torment others [[ForTheEvulz for her own amusement]]. She forced her way into the {{Yakuza}} as a way to help out bad people and had no issue abusing and shooting her fellow magical girls when they didn't act submissive. When the magical girls were forced into a killing game, she embraced the conflict with glee. Eventually she escalated into attacking a highway and shooting dozens of civilians to watch the explosions and lure in her rivals, threatening to keep on killing unless she's stopped.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: As much of the douches the Peaky Twins are, some of their antics are so over-the-top it is easy to laugh.
* DiagnosedByTheAudience: Swim Swim's narrow-minded obsession with acting like Ruler and determination to do everything possible to see that dream happen, including killing Ruler and four other people, makes it seem like there's something up with Swim Swim's mind. Fav later describes her as "having a few screws loose."
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Nemurin has accumulated a surprisingly large amount of popularity, [[spoiler: despite being the SacrificialLamb of the first book,]] and receiving virtually no characterization in the novel itself. This has so far been increased as the Drama CD ''Magical Girl Raising Project in Dreamland'' focuses on Nemurin greatly. She is even the writer's favourite character!
** Lapis Lazuline has gained a massive amount of popularity, second to [[TheHero Snow White]] herself.
** La Pucelle has gotten incredibly popular, especially in sites like Tumblr, possibly owing to the fact that she's [[spoiler: actually a boy that really admired magical girls so much so that he became one himself.]]
** Marika Fukuroi has been especially popular with both Japanese and Western fans, who love her personality and battle-lust. She is also the illustrator's favourite character.
* FandomRivalry: With ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'', ''Anime/YukiYunaIsAHero'', and ''Manga/MagicalGirlSite'' due to their similar genre.
* FanNickname:
** Swim Swim has many of them: [[Anime/DarlingInTheFranxx "Swim 2"]], [[spoiler:"Waifu Killer"]], "Swimming Swimming", etc.
** You'll be hard pressed to find people on /a/ who don't call Pythie Frederica "Hairfag" due to her obsession with collecting and playing with hair.
** For actually being [[spoiler:a boy turned into a Magical Girl]], some call La Pucelle "Trapucelle" or "Boipucelle" despite being biologically female when transformed.
** Calling Ripple "Cripple" after she [[spoiler:lost one arm and one eye during her battle with Swim Swim]].
** Top Speed being called "Top Mom" for [[spoiler:actually being pregnant]].
** With that appearance, is not impressive that Magicaloid 44 is usually called "Robot Hatsune Miku".
** Puk Puck gained the nickname "Pancake" for [[spoiler:dying being crushed by the device left by the First Mage. The official Discord server even made a sticker of her face on a pancake.]]
* FriendlyFandoms: With ''Franchise/DanganRonpa'', and to a lesser extent with ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure''.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: Has its own page [[Funny/MagicalGirlRaisingProject here]].
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff:
** Hardgore Alice. In the West, she is a mild BaseBreakingCharacter, with the worst being people finding her just uninteresting, but in Japan she placed directly under ''Swim Swim of all people'' in the first popularity poll.
** Top Speed placed not much higher in the same poll, but outside Japan she is liked for being a CuteWitch and a CoolBigSis. She is one of the kindest and most easy-going characters, and her liveliness makes her stand out in the midst of all the darkness.
* HollywoodPudgy: Sister Nana's official profile states that she's worried about her weight. Her original LN art depicting her civilian form with thick legs does show something that she's worried about, but the anime does not really depict her in any way that reflects her worry.
* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: The reaction to the anime was mainly this, with many mixed to negative reactions over yet ''another'' {{Deconstruction}} anime series, and especially for targetting ''again'' the MagicalGirl genre in a period in which, after the success of ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'', straight takes on it had become very rare[[note]]at the time, only ''Anime/MahoGirlsPrecure'', ''Anime/SailorMoonCrystal'' and ''Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaViVid'' were mainstream, and all of them were new installments of old-established franchises instead of fully new works[[/note]]. Ironically, it could be argued that ''Raising Project'' is actually less of a deconstruction than a DarkerAndEdgier take[[note]]this being, amusingly enough, a complaint that was already on ''Madoka Magica'', the series which ''Raising Project'' took clearly inspiration from[[/note]], or perhaps a DeconReconSwitch, as many characters, such as Snow White, Lapis Lazuline, and Wedin, to name a few, cling to MagicalGirl ideals, such as helping others, doing the right thing, and not letting the darkness that the world throws at them affect them.
* JustHereForGodzilla: Since the series's announcement, word of mouth had it as a potential SpiritualSuccessor of ''Madoka Magica'', and a lot of viewers were drawn to it solely by this notion. Ironically, as stated above, this similarity would end up turning GoneHorriblyRight and becoming a point of contention.
* [[HoYay Les Yay]]: Let's just say, it's a series with around 140 female characters that has only 10 male characters.
* LGBTFanbase: The series has a large female cast, a lot of [[HoYay Les Yay]], and a few canonically queer characters, so it attracts people. It also helps that female-assigned-at-birth people aren't the only ones who can become Magical Girls, which attracts trans fans.
* MagnificentBastard:
** Pfle is an expert at using anyone and anything at her disposal to get what she wants. When she was forced into a battle royal with 102 other magical girls she beat them all to keep herself and Shadow Gale safe. Being trapped in a virtual world just gives her the chance to abuse game mechanics and manipulate the other players to clear obstacles in her path. She then becomes the head of the [[GovernmentAgencyOfFiction Magical Girl Resources Department]], which she uses to reduce the Magical Kingdom's stranglehold on magical girls. [[PlayingBothSides As part of this she sets up new magical girls, Magical Kingdom inspectors, and certain criminals to fight each other]], ending with various nuisances dead while she gains more power. [[MemoryGambit She erases her own memories to hide her crimes]], then later realizes she's lost her memories by knowing she wouldn't seize power through legitimate means. When Shadow Gale is kidnapped, Pfle is able to work with the kidnapper and eventually starts ordering her around. Pfle then works with the powerful Osk faction to stop the dangerous Puk faction and save Shadow Gale. She manages to keep Osk from killing Shadow Gale and defeat Puk despite both having much stronger forces at their disposal. Pfle is then killed, but [[LastRequest she's still able to ensure Shadow Gale's safety and that her legacy would be passed on]].
** At the age of 10 Nokko is a veteran magical girl and an expert at [[EmotionControl controlling emotions with her magic]]. In the past she riled up magical girl candidates and got them to kill each other for money, which she needs to care for her ailing mother. When she's trapped in a [[YourMindMakesItReal virtual game world where death means you die in real life]], she is assigned the role of the Evil King who must kill the other 15 magical girls to escape. She takes on the role and subtly manipulates the other players to distrust and fight one another, leading to their numbers whittling down as the game continues. She does this all while acting like she shares the same goal of killing the Evil King and makes them want to protect her. Eventually only a few remain, allowing Nokko to fake her death so that she can more easily induce the rest to kill each other. When she is discovered at the last minute, she [[GracefulLoser accepts defeat]] and merely requests the survivors to send some of the reward money to her mother before killing herself.
* MemeticMutation:
** Fuck [[spoiler:Swim Swim]]. [[labelnote:Explanation (spoilers)]]For her outright {{chronic backstabbing|Disorder}} villainy in the first arc, which was adapted into the anime.[[/labelnote]]
** Fire extinguisher bullying. [[spoiler: The manga adaptation of the second arc shows Snow White's battle with Flame Flamey, and fans quickly attached to the expression of pure terror Flamey had when Snow White used one against her.]]
** Uluru. [[spoiler: A Magical Girl in ACES has the power of telling believable lies, which inevitably led to fans posting her picture when trolling or spreading false information.]]
** Melville's speech impediment is often mimicked, either to make fun of her or as a tribute by fans.
** [[MemeticMolester Pythie's hair fetish.]]
** #[=PrayForOvejaEnLlamas=] (Spanglish for "[[ItMakesSenseInContext pray for sheep on fire]]") has become one in the Spanish speaking fandom for the sheer ridiculousness of the scene.
** Magician of the Forest, a mistake in Cranberry's full title on the official English translation, has become one for being a complete mistranslation.
** @Meow-Meow has also become for the very same reason.
** Silver-Coloured Metal Spoon.[[labelnote:Explanation]]The translation wars mentioned in Broken Base has led to some fans to joke that some translators will complain about other translations if they use Silver Spoon instead of the verbose Silver-Coloured Metal Spoon.[[/labelnote]]
* MoralEventHorizon:
** If Swim Swim backstabbing her superior Ruler doesn't count, then she would have many more moments where she crossed the line, including:
*** Ambushing good magical girls [[spoiler:(Weiss, Top Speed and Alice)]] while they were in vulnerable states. [[spoiler:In extension, she's also responsible for Nana's suicide, as one of them is her lover. Bonus points for Top Speed outright telling her that she was pregnant, and Swim Swim not hesitating to kill her at all.]]
*** Slashing the head/throat off her [[spoiler:own teammate (Tama)]] because she happened to see her civilian form.
** Meanwhile, Cranberry crosses her own MEH when she [[spoiler:brutally beats La Pucelle and then kills her by throwing her into the path of oncoming traffic.]] If she didn’t cross it then, [[spoiler:the following arc reveals that she’s done at least 15 previous exams and killed many more Magical Girls in her desire to kill strong opponents.]]
* NarmCharm: [[spoiler:The middle of La Pucelle's decisive battle with Cranberry includes a flashback of him peeking down his blouse and flushing over the fact that he has boobs. However, this does not ruin the drama as a pervy moment is supposed to, as this changes Souta's misconception that only girls can become magical girls. The flashback also established how he resolved to become a strong MagicalGirlWarrior.]]
* TheScrappy:
** Swim Swim could easily become more hated than intended for those who find her cool and prudent mind not being able to outweigh her crimes. At some point, the hatred for her was so strong that it led to the creation of a local meme.
** The twins Minael and Yunael because of their extreme Jerkass-nature and the absence of any moral doubts when performing Swim Swim orders. Moreover, Minael does not show any doubt with the disclosure of [[spoiler: the present identity of Alice, even knowing that it leads to the killing of a child]].
** Calamity Mary is one of the most hated characters in fandom because of her sadistic inclination and the absence of any regrets. That said, her cruelty makes her intentionally hated not just by the fans, but also by in-universe characters.
** Since QUEENS was released, Puk Puck has become one of the most hated characters in the series, if not the most hated one overall, for her lack of any kind of morality and extremely manipulative nature.
** Fans also tend to hate Princess Quake as her obsession with children paints her as pedophilic.
* SoOkayItsAverage: The general opinion about the adaptation anime is that, although it is rather secondary and clearly tries to imitate ''Madoka'' a bit too much, the show can still be interesting and exciting for people who like works with a lot of cynicism and characters with different superpowers.
* TaintedByThePreview: Reactions to the anime's announcement were quite negative, with many dismissing the series as yet another ''Madoka'' clone and feeling that the original concept of the magical girl genre was being targeted too often in modern times. Even Crunchyroll staffers showed themselves frustrated about it on the live portion of the Fall 2016 Rollout special where they first announced they were simulcasting the ''MGRP'' anime. Note that, while the anime itelf didn't refute this impression, the light novel series would later reveal that [[spoiler: the Land of Magic and the Magical Girl system aren't corrupt and the villains are largely rogue agents]].
* TheyCopiedItSoItSucks: Negative opinions about ''Raising Project'' started when it became obvious that the series was dead-inspired by ''Madoka'' and was trying to reproduce most of the latter's psychology and elements, down to characters like Snow White and Hardgore Alice being ersatzes to Madoka and Homura themselves. Even if some people were still willing to give it a chance out of sheer hype and/or curiosity, the perspectives didn't improve much when critics started pointing out that ''Raising Project'' had even managed to replicate ''Madoka'''s shortcomings as well (namely its TooBleakStoppedCaring attitude, polarizing characters and excessive dependance on BreakTheCutie) while also adding some new ones (a compressed storyline, very modest artistic values and a noticeable lack of character development, the latter of which struck pretty badly given that ''Madoka'' had been praised precisely for its character focus).
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter:
** Hardgore Alice. Sure, her character and motivations were basically those of a revamped [[Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica Homura Akemi]], but for some people that was precisely her draw, or more precisely how would she evolve from it in relation to Snow White and the plot. Although she ended up used as a SacrificialLion for Snow White's development, the fact that Alice was possibly the only character who gave her a much needed unconditional support in her BreakTheCutie process led people to wish she would have stayed around and received more usage - especially given that, just like Homura again, Alice ends up ultimately being separated from her shortly after revealing her true motives.
** The First Lapis Lazuline. She is set up in ''White'' as a threatening antagonist and a foil to Pythie, setting up a potential reappearance as a new villain later down the line, with her status as a GreaterScopeVillain cemented. But in the end, in ''Red'', Pythie kills her off easily, preventing this from ever happening.
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: The anime's tone was set very quickly when the magical girls completely forgot about their candy points and started ruthlessly hunting each other down. Combined with the lack of screentime available to properly develp the characters into making them relatable (the series is a twelve episode series trying to flesh out ''sixteen'' characters, meaning it could not even focus on a single character per episode), many viewers found it just too difficult to enjoy.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Ruler's backstory shows her being bullied in her workplace and ignored by her boss, being put back in her place when she brings up a plan to raise efficiency. However, she is so haughty and such a jerk to everyone around her, even her own boss, that one might think that all those things could have been avoided if she just had been nice about it. Or that people disliking or brushing her off was the logical conclusion to her being cold, mean and acting superior to everyone around her.
* ValuesDissonance: Koyuki hides the fact she likes MagicalGirl series because the works are seen as immature. In Japan, most magical girl works are aimed at little girls and many MagicalGirlGenreDeconstruction works are {{Subverted Kids Show}}s. Internationally, many MagicalGirl works have predominantly adult and teenage fandoms.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForLittleGirls: It looks like a normal MagicalGirl series but is a MagicalGirlGenreDeconstruction where the Magical Girls must kill one another to survive.
