2	* AlasPoorVillain: [[spoiler:Cestis, who becomes Elaine's father (after eating the original).]]
3	* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: The final scene of the comic is subject to much interpretation. [[spoiler: Lucifer leaves the universe to be off by himself for all eternity after a conversation with the Old God about enlightenment. The thing is, Lucifer explicitly rejects the comparison and abandons his seeming loved ones. Some have seen this as a metaphor for Lucifer growing up and being mature. Others see it as showing Lucifer is so pathologically immature he can't stand to be around ''anyone'' now since contact with other people makes you dependent on them. I.e. he actually got ''worse'' rather than better.]]
4	* AwesomeEgo: Lucifer unsurprisingly is a prideful [[TheSociopath sociopath]] to all but a select few individuals who sees and treats everyone else as bugs. Considering he is the second-most powerful being in all of Creation, equaled only by Michael and surpassed only by [[{{God}} The Presence]] Himself, this mindset is very much understandable.
5	* CompleteMonster: [[OmnicidalManiac Fenris]] is the Nordic BeastOfTheApocalypse and the self-proclaimed ruler of "everything that ravels, rapes, and rends". Following [[HaveYouSeenMyGod God's abdication of His throne]], leading to the slow unraveling of the universe, Fenris decided to take a personal interest in speeding up the process. Murdering several other Norse gods whom he'd previous claimed he'd made peace with, Fenris takes control of a mentally ill man and tries to force him to murder his wife and son among the roots of Yggdrasil, which would render the destruction of the universe inevitable. When this plan fails, Fenris murders his accomplice, the African trickster god Abonsam, and uses his blood to take control of Lucifer and kill his brother Michael, watering the tree with his blood. In the final arc, Fenris joins [[LegionOfDoom Lilith's alliance of past villains]], eviscerates the ArchangelUriel, kills the noble human Hell-Lord Christopher Rudd, and destroys God's throne, which would have immediately destroyed the entire cosmos had God's granddaughter, Elaine Belloc, not agreed to succeed him.
6	* DamselScrappy: Rachel and Mona (though Rachel is also this by virtue of being a loud, bratty JerkAss). Elaine at first, but she [[TookALevelInBadass got over it]].
7	* ExiledFromContinuity: By virtue of being a spinoff of a ExiledFromContinuity title, since DC superheroes and the world of Morpheus and Lucifer can't touch or interact without cheapening one or the other. Lucifer has had a few cameos.
8	* HoYay: [[spoiler:Jayesh/Karl, which ends up being canon]].
9	* JerkassWoobie: Lucifer is a ''bastard''... but he spends his entire existence striving for things he can ultimately never have, and his father is an even worse person than he is.

11	** [[VillainProtagonist Lucifer Morningstar]] is the endlessly proud, brilliant and dangerous [[{{Satan}} Devil]]. Seeking his freedom from creation, Lucifer deals with endless threats to his new Creation and his safety, constantly outplaying and destroying them. Even in places where he is powerless, such as the Japanese underworld Yomi, Lucifer sees through every trap against him and defeats his supposed hosts. When struck down by another trap, Lucifer returns to life by manipulating his niece Elaine Belloc into sacrificing her life for him and promptly outsmarts and destroys the angel Amenadiel who seeks to destroy him when he is still recovering before returning Elaine to life to repay his debt. Pursuing his freedom from all Creation, Lucifer constantly demonstrates why he is the king of manipulation, second only to God himself.
12	** Mazikeen is Lucifer's consort and one of the mightiest of the Lilim. Having murdered an angel for insulting her mother after luring him to a trap as a child, Mazikeen later pledged herself to Lucifer and follows him into exile on earth. Showing her abilities by luring one of the mighty Jin-en-Mok into a trap to kill him, Mazikeen routinely acts in her own and Lucifer's interests. Becoming the warleader of the Lilim by facing one of her brothers, Mazikeen allows him to cut her until he is close enough she might spit poison into his eyes and finish him off. Mazikeen repeatedly demonstrates a ruthless show of tactics, concealing her true abilities to catch her mad brother Scoria off guard before he can violate her, siding with Lucifer against her mother Lilith and the invasion of heaven. When she feels abandoned by Lucifer's departure, Mazikeen scars his face, declaring that his only options are to wear the scar and remember her always, or heal it and prove himself a coward.
13	** Izanami is the queen of Yomi-no-Kuni and Japanese goddess of death, who operates the [[EldritchLocation House of Windowless Rooms]], wherein sinful souls are tormented with endless nightmares. Purchasing Lucifer's wings from Remiel, she offers to parley with him on the condition that he come to her realm as a powerless mortal, and she is forced to return the wings after her sons violate Lucifer's [[SacredHospitality right of hospitality]]. However, Izanami secretly switches four of Lucifer's feathers with dove's feathers, enabling her son Susano to perform a ritual that causes Lucifer's power to double back on him while in combat with another enemy, dealing the Morningstar [[DefeatingTheUndefeatable his sole unambiguous defeat]]. At the end of the story, Izanami outlasts all the other antagonists, and upon learning of Lucifer's departure from reality, decides to reforge herself into the new Devil of Elaine Belloc's multiverse.
14	** [[FromNobodyToNightmare Christopher Rudd]] was a sword teacher in human life and a just man who discovered his wife's adultery with his employer. In a moment of rage, Rudd killed the man's young son and was executed and damned. Selected as a plaything by the hedonistic demon noble Lady Lys, Rudd later realizes the injustice of hell and poisons Lys with [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone human regret]]. Rudd is challenged by her brother Brosag to a duel, but wins when he [[LoopholeAbuse uses the demons' own rules]] to have their father force Brosag to fight him sword to sword. Later betraying a conspiracy to Lys's father Arux to climb higher in the ranks of the house, Rudd betrays Arux himself in favor of Lucifer to win further favor and uses it to become a prophet in hell, preaching forgiveness. Ascending to [[HellHasNewManagement rule Hell out of sheer worthiness]], Rudd launches an assault on angels and Lilim alike before giving his life to hold the god Fenrir at bay. At the end, Rudd is judged innocent by King Solomon, [[EarnYourHappyEnding granted the peace he has long earned]].
15	** King Solomon is the great judge of earth and trusted by God to see and judge all sins. A ruthless man who goes and punishes the worst sinners, Solomon happens upon a mobster, corrupt cop and a former Neo-Nazi named Karl who maimed his best friend Jayesh out of fear he was attracted to him. Using this knowledge to force Karl in to murder the corrupt cop, Solomon intends for Karl to die while also arranging for a corrupt politician to be there at the same time, destroying four sinners in the bargain. Only foiled by the intervention of an angel, Solomon is taken to heaven to declare Christopher Rudd's soul redeemed before calmly asking to be returned to earth, deciding he has not yet earned paradise.
16	* MemeticMutation: Eventually used as part of the "Good Guy Lucifer" advice animals.
17	* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Rachel gets ''much'' better in her later appearances.
18	* TheScrappy: Arabelle Crane from the 2015 series is disliked for being a [[FlatCharacter poorly done]] GenderFlip of John Constantine, without the charm or good intentions.
19	* ScrappyMechanic: If you're the sort of person who tries to decipher it, Mazikeen's slurred semi-legible speech quickly becomes very irritating. Which is probably why Creator/MikeCarey had Jill Presto "repair" Mazikeen's face at the first opportunity; he wouldn't have had much attachment to the whole gimmick, since it was Creator/NeilGaiman's invention.
20	* TearJerker: About half the death scenes, even when the characters get better, not helped by the large number of [[TheWoobie woobies]]; also the relationships between [[spoiler: Jayesh and Karl]], [[spoiler: Rudd and Lys]], and [[spoiler: Elaine and her foster parents]], and the fates of a number of characters you wouldn't expect to miss, or even actively [[AlasPoorVillain loathe]]. Let's not even get started on the break-ups.
21	** Especially the note [[spoiler: Karl]] finds at the end of The Wheels of God story arc in ''Morningstar''. [[spoiler: "He knows. He has always known."]]
22	* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The 2015 comic series undoes a ''lot'' from the old one, [[spoiler:including turning the BittersweetEnding into a StatusQuoIsGod sort of middle.]] This has drawn quite a few complaints.
23	* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Takehiko, who exists solely to kill [[spoiler:his father, Lucifer,]] ultimately doesn't get much to do apart from fall for Rosemary and [[spoiler:fail to do anything to Lucifer at every turn.]]
24	* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: In the 2015 series. A mad God who's turned OmnicidalManiac and has brainwashed an army of angels and demons? ''Awesome''. A mad God who's turned OmnicidalManiac turning out to [[spoiler:have a WeaksauceWeakness and killed off without much effort?]] Not so much.
