* BestKnownForTheFanservice: When the movie isn't remembered over its controversial depiction of homosexuality, it's because of the scene where Creator/JessicaBiel strips down to her underwear.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: While the movie's overall depiction of homosexuality is considered extremely tasteless, Captain Tucker's absurd homophobic remarks are so idiotic (and clearly meant to make ''him'' look like a moron) that it's impossible not to laugh.
* DontShootTheMessage: Let's just say that this is the ''kindest'' thing many gay viewers had to say about this movie. GLAAD actually was criticized for its positive review.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Even those who hate the movie tend to cite Captain Tucker as one of the better parts. Thanks to being played by Creator/DanAykroyd and having some of the best lines in the movie.
* FairForItsDay: This movie had its share of negatives. It included stereotypical and offensive jokes, which detracted from its message. However, it's worth acknowledging that the film attempted to address LGBTQ+ issues in a mainstream comedy, challenging homophobia. In 2007, when LGBTQ+ representation was limited, its effort to promote acceptance was a step in the right direction, even if its execution had flaws.
* HilariousInHindsight: [[Creator/AdamSandler Chuck's]] Halloween costume is [[WesternAnimation/HotelTransylvania a vampire]].
* ItsTheSameSoItSucks: The whole "two straight friends pretend to be gay to game the system" had already been done in Australia a few years earlier with ''Film/StrangeBedfellows2004'' (though the script for ''Chuck and Larry'' had already been written and submitted by then). Michael Caton joked about the incident, which Rob Schneider took personally.
* MexicansLoveSpeedyGonzales: Despite controversy over the possible homophobic undertones, GLAAD actually gave the movie their golden seal of approval.
* {{Squick}}: The calendar, in which the couple pose nude.
