1	* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Spencer shames Darius for being so promiscuous is that him being a hypocrite, is he in denial, is he ashamed or does he just expect better from Darius?
2	* BaseBreakingCharacter:
3	** Darius. At first when he was announced and his route started, the reception was mixed due to his perverted nature and nonchalant treatment of Eric wanting a serious relationship. He became TheScrappy after a short while, but afterwards when his story unfolded and more was discovered about him, he was RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap by turning him into a more complex and likable character. That said, some still haven't completely forgiven Darius over his first impressions.
4	** For Spencer, it was the opposite case. Some felt that he was too "[[InvincibleHero perfect]]" and he was far too ideal compared to the other romantic leads. Combining the fact that he is the ChildhoodFriend of the protagonist, the closest person in his life, his popularity with the ladies, he seemed like a shoo-in for new players so that everyone would pick him and seem like the CreatorsPet. This has since died down after his FatalFlaw was revealed and the other leads have been more fleshed out.
5	* BrokenBase: Due to personal issues outside of the novel itself, [=CursedMarked=] left the team during its production. In his place, artist Creator/CaptainGerBear has taken the wrings to update all character art into a consistent and congruent style. The problem is that CM's and CGB's art styles are ''vastly'' different, with CGB having a less {{Animesque}} feel to his style and more of a westernized flair to it. Naturally, this has split fans of the project into one that enjoys the new style and one that doesn't. 6	* EnsembleDarkhorse: Maria is loved by fans for being a kind, supportive, and motherly person to Eric.
7	* FanNickname: MC for the protagonist, short for "Main Character."
8	* FridgeBrilliance: Spencer and Darius' rivalry comes across as silly and petty, at least until you find out why they're rivals. But what better animals could be butting heads than a dog and a cat? (A husky and a lion respectively.)
9	* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: It's meta, but the pink wristband Spencer wears is based on the wristband the creator Dyne wears for breast cancer awareness.
10	* IronWoobie: Eric who despite losing his job, home, and most of his money in rapid succession nevertheless keeps up with school and tennis with most people he knows not even realizing anything was wrong.
11	* JerkassWoobie: Darius. He's cocky, arrogant, and frequently crosses personal boundaries in his flirting. That being said, he hides a lot of problems in his life which makes him at least somewhat sympathetic.
12	* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound: The sound of Eric receiving a text or call on his phone is pleasant to hear.
13	* ProtagonistCenteredMorality: Late in Darius's route, depending on choices made early on, he may decide to leave Eric cuffed, naked, on Darius's bed, refusing Eric's demands to be released. Despite a difference in motive, this is noticeably similar to what Vernon once did to Chester.
14	* StoicWoobie: Dozer. He doesn't show much emotion in general so most people don't guess the troubles he has experienced growing up.

16	** When Eric suggests Chester to cook steak, he gets mortified while Chester explains that [[spoiler:he knows how his kind is eaten, even going as far as cooking and eating steak himself.]]
17	** Dozer when he's mad can be outright terrifying sometimes, having an extreme BewareTheNiceOnes effect. Gets crazier when he starts telling you some of the things that happened in his past, he's actually was a lot worse.
18	* TearJerker: A lot of the characters have depressing elements to their stories.
19	** Eric is homeless due to the business he worked for going under and not being able to rely on his parents, as his father is a strict military man and implied to be homophobic.
20	*** And the trauma of certain routes can be painful. He is [[spoiler:nearly raped by Vernon in Chester's route]],[[spoiler:assaulted and nearly killed by Dianna in Harold's route]], [[spoiler:molested by one of Darius's friends in Spencer's route]], [[spoiler:watches Darius's motorcycle accident in Darius's route]] and [[spoiler:learns that a random man he met on the mountain vacation died.]]
21	** It's a small scene in Harold's route but when you're talking with Spencer and Darius about Dianna and her attacks, Darius will chime in with how he thinks Isaac is out to get him. Spencer admits he's terrified of both his friends dying.
22	** Chester [[spoiler:was the victim of rape. His 'buddies' on the football team got him drunk, tied him to the bed and had a prostitute assault him to try to 'turn him straight'.]] Vernon continuously picks on him and Eric in the route.
23	*** It's a small moment, but during one of your tennis matches, Darius will joke that nobody could ever love Chester and he will flip out. Vernon did a number on the poor bull.
24	** Coach Harold Grifter has depression and nearly committed suicide at one point. There's also his abusive biphobic ex-wife repeatedly verbally and physically abusing him and the player. One shudders to think what their marriage was like. He repeatedly calls himself 'pathetic' and blames his divorce on his bisexuality. Plus there's [[spoiler:death of his best friend and first man he'd ever loved, Jess]].
25	*** Dianna [[spoiler:breaks into Harold's house and one of the first things she does is tear apart the teddy bear you got Harold at the amusement park. Later when she breaks in while you're there she goes on a rant about 'fixing his bisexual desires.]]
26	*** If you don't say yes to the relationship option after his suicide attempt, [[spoiler:the game route will end with him feeling so unloved in the relationship that he will check himself into a psychiatric hospital for his depression. It's a painful scene to play through.]]
27	*** It's more of a BittersweetEnding but at the end of Harold's route [[spoiler:after Dianna reveals your relationship with the teacher, and is arrested for trespassing and assault the accusations against Coach are more serious than ever and you are forced to break up, and restart the relationship later.]]
28	** Darius's route has [[spoiler:two of his exes try to kill him. When he's in the hospital you learn from the nurses that of his family and friends only Spencer, Maria and the player have visited him. Nobody else cared.]]
29	*** Darius's relationship with his father is very strained to the point where Darius doesn't have many good memories of him. His father, Cyrus is homophobic partially because Darius's uncle was also gay and died due to A.I.D.S. He wants to help his father mend his relationship with his wife, and then when you help him fix said relationship and things look like they're going well [[spoiler:until Cyrus has a heart attack and is left in a coma with no resolution to that, despite the fact that he's just fixed his connection to his father, he's completely distraught about the idea of his father dying]].
30	** Dozer has a pretty sad backstory considering his father was abusive to him and his mother, his school life was hell and his past relationship is not great.
31	*** Dozer's relationship with his father is not great. As the father beat him and his mother. [[spoiler:When Dozer's dad tries to make contact to apologize, Dozer wants nothing to do with him and actively tries to avoid him, only speaking to him when he sees how terrifying his anger has become.]] The talk is very painful for him as the horrors he endured have left him very numb, during the confrontation his angry tears rip at your soul.
32	*** Dozer was a cool jock in high-school until he found out his girlfriend was cheating on him with his then best friend. He beat said 'friend' within an inch of his life and was forced to change schools, only for his reputation to catch up with him at his second high-school where almost everyone was afraid of him.
33	*** Dozer's relationship with Harvey becomes dark once the player dates Dozer, as Harvey becomes emotionally and verbally abusive, shaming Dozer for 'throwing their relationship away'.
34	** Spencer and Darius as a relationship, Darius helped Spencer come to terms with his sexual orientation and it's implied that Spencer made Darius feel loved, but Isaac, Darius's vicious ex lied and claimed that Darius had gotten him drunk and taken advantage of him. This makes Spencer view Darius as a pervert and decimates the relationship. The sadder part is that Spencer immediately believed Isaac, someone he barely knew over Darius.
35	** Spencer's relationship with his brother, DJ is not great. Spencer actively tries to avoid his brother's wedding. Spencer claims that DJ was homophobic and anti-human beast people marriage. When we meet DJ he's a friendly goofball, and Spencer can't stop antagonizing his brother. DJ asks why Spencer has been acting this way and Spencer reveals that he thought that DJ was jealous of his skills and having surpassed him. Spencer believed this for years.
36	** Spencer in any route other than his own, considering he spent most of his life denying his feelings for his childhood best friend, only to learn that his friend was gay, but ended up with someone else. It's even worse in Darius's route because he dated Darius and thought that Darius had taken advantage of a past lover, to the point where he constantly tells you that Darius is only using you for sex, sometimes saying that you're stupid for not knowing it.
37	** Harvey was thrown out of his house during winter for being gay. He sees his best friend and ex-boyfriend becoming closer to someone else and lashes out ruining the relationship in the process. He's still a jerk for this.
38	** Richard in his own route describes why he's at the shelter. He was a happy husband and father of two. His marriage lost the love it once had, as his wife, Marci said that she no longer felt the spark. Richard turned to alcohol to fall asleep and get through his job, eventually he was caught and fired. He eventually had to leave as his alcoholism would've broken his daughters' hearts. Then at his youngest's 4th birthday party she asked why couldn't her parents be together and that she missed him, Richard and the child started sobbing uncontrollably. It becomes heartwarming, because his family is Richard's motivation to stay sober.
39	* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Some fans dislike the change in artist and the new art style. Making matters worse is that there was no heads-up for fans that CM might leave the project as well as being told that he will never return, which left a sour taste in their mouths.
40	* TheWoobie: Virtually all the main cast at some point, standouts include:
41	** Eric due to his living situation and the series of events that led up to it.
42	** Coach Grifter because of his empathetic situation and [[spoiler:tragic loss.]]
43	** Chester when he states how aware he is that [[spoiler:non-anthropomorphic cattle are cooked and eaten up, while he is an anthropomorphic bull. (He is even fine with ''eating steak himself!!'')]]
44	*** It gets worse when you hear about the story of Chester's fallout with his old football team, which include but not limited to [[spoiler:his old teammates getting him blackout drunk, tying him to a bed, [[RapeAsBackstory calling a hooker and making her suck his cock in his sleep]] and from then on being known as a 'fag' by the entire team which caused him to go into a massive depression episode that lasted roughly until the events of the plot.]] It's as if the world has something against the poor bull.
45	** Spencer, especially in Darius's route. [[spoiler:His close childhood friend ends up dating the same guy who just dated and dumped him not too long ago.]]
46	** Dozer when it's revealed that [[spoiler:he had a close friend in high school who would help him with math]] like how Eric does now. [[spoiler:Not to mention, his father abandoned him and his mom when he was at a young age.]]
47	** Darius doesn't seem like it at first but during his route [[spoiler: a motorcycle accident sends him to the hospital. Bad enough already but it's quickly shown that neither his family nor any of his other friends are concerned about his condition or in visiting him while he's there. It seems likely that Eric is one of the few real friends he actually has.]]
48	** Maria when she reveals [[spoiler:she had a huge crush on a high school friend and still regrets never confessing her feelings]] despite being happy where she is now.
