1	* CommonKnowledge: No, Hal did ''not'' actually massacre the Green Lantern Corps, just steal their rings. The only member he ends up killing is Kilowog near the end, and this is treated by Hal himself as his MoralEventHorizon.
2	* FridgeHorror: The famous Darryl Banks cover of Hal grinning like a madman and wearing the rings of his defeated victims is unsettlingly akin to the real world trophies of ears some soldiers took in Vietnam.
3	* FridgeLogic: So, Hal supposedly managed to either kill, defeat or steal the rings of every Green Lantern apart from himself at the time, right? What about the more esoteric and [[BizarreAlienBiology bizarre]] Green Lanterns? How did Hal beat them? For example, there’s Dkrtzy Rrr, who is a living [[FormulaForTheUnformulable mathematical formula representing willpower itself]], which would make him close, if not akin to, a [[AnthropomorphicPersonification living concept]]. How the hell did Hal manage to defeat a sentient, abstract mathematical equation to begin with? You can't punch or kill math. Another example of that would be [[GeniusLoci Mogo]]. Stealing his ring and leaving him to drift in space wouldn't be enough to kill him, since drifting in space is literally what Mogo does all the time. Did Hal somehow destroy the entire living planet?
4	* MisBlamed: Creator/RonMarz was accused of single-handedly destroying the old Green Lantern mythos, but the story and outcome was DC's idea, and Marz was merely tasked with writing it. Marz also didn’t really want Hal to be corrupted but he was overruled and he didn’t protest too strongly because he was a novice writer being given his first big break.
5	* {{Narm}}: The cover with Hal wearing ten rings, one in each of his fingers, with a manic grin. It honestly crosses into SoBadItsGood territory - one can't help but think of Hal saying "Look at all this BLING!"
6	* SignatureScene: The cover image for ''Green Lantern'' Vol 3 issue 49 depicting Hal Jordan grinning evilly while wearing multiple Green Lantern power rings on his fingers remains the most memorable moment from this particular story arc, to the point that it was given an homage in the ''WesternAnimation/GreenLanternTheAnimatedSeries'' episode "Larfleeze" (albeit with Orange Lantern rings) and on an alternate cover for the sixth issue of ''ComicBook/PlanetOfTheApesGreenLantern'' (which shows Cornelius wearing a ring from every Lantern Corps, including a Black Lantern ring and a White Lantern ring).

8	** After 25 years, most of the controversy surrounding the storyline has died down, and it's now considered one of the best Green Lantern storylines ever made just for the sheer amounts of HSQ present (This is probably helped by the fact that Creator/GeoffJohns used ''ComicBook/GreenLanternRebirth'' to fix a lot what fans gave this story flag for, most prominently retconning Hal's descent into evil by explaining that he was possessed by the living embodiment of fear Parallax).
9	** There is also a somewhat vocal minority of Green Lantern fans that later (primarily following his resurrection) started to agree with DC's reasoning for making the story (Hal Jordan was boring and needed to be replaced) and that his time as Parallax was actually the only time his character had something going for him.
