* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** You either find Amanda hilariously dark and entertaining, or an annoying and poorly written villain with a hideous design and annoying voice (despite being voiced by Creator/KariWahlgren), the facts that [[FantasticRacism her hatred toward the beasts]] is unexplained and [[FlatCharacter she had nothing to do in almost every episode but hopelessly try to get rid of Bunsen]] don't help.
** Mikey and Bunsen themselves are either lovably awkward or insufferably annoying.
* BrokenBase: The {{Crossover}} Episode "Beast of Friends" with ''The Fairly [=OddParents=]'' is either a funny and enjoyable episode, or tasteless and weak crossover with a huge SeriesContinuityError[=/=]AssPull for the latter show[[note]]If anyone who isn't or wasn't a miserable kid that has a fairy godparent had seen a fairy godparent, the kid who owns them will lose them, but this didn't happen in that crossover, probably because it follows Season 10's AssPull [[/note]], and [[CreatorsPet Timmy's Dad]]'s unnecessary appearance (combined with Mr. Crocker [[OutOfCharacterMoment being shoved out of character]] for the sake of the episode's plot) doesn't help at all.
* JustHereForGodzilla: Nickelodeon released a video that acts as a crossover to all of Hartman's shows to introduce Bunsen called ''Fairly Odd Phantom''. The now-disabled comments section on [=YouTube=] will make it clear most were only interested in seeing ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom'' animated for the first time since 2007.
* {{Moe}}: Mikey, along with Bunsen, are both yet another example where a Nicktoon stars a couple of good-hearted children with cute expressions, {{Adorkable}} quirks and a close bond with each other; [[WesternAnimation/SanjayAndCraig Nickelodeon seems to]] [[WesternAnimation/HarveyBeaks be on a roll]] [[WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse with this trope]].
* SoOkayItsAverage: While ''Bunsen'' never reached the popularity of ''WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse'' due to its mixed reception (see Broken Base above), it's still considered an overall improvement from Creator/{{Nickelodeon}}'s [[WesternAnimation/SanjayAndCraig previous]] [[WesternAnimation/PlanetSheen animated]] [[WesternAnimation/{{Breadwinners}} shows]].
* ToughActToFollow: Given by the fact, like among each show made by Creator/ButchHartman (except ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents''[='=] first five seasons and ''WesternAnimation/DannyPhantom''[='=]s first two seasons), this one seems to fall right at the bottom of the category, as many did see some improvement over its predecessors, but it wasn't enough to match all of the other shows in terms of gathering attention.
* UglyCute: Bunsen, who else? Most of the characters do count, also.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotPolitical: A plot about a kid who's much different than the rest, is part of a group that needs acceptance, and deals with one who opposes him because of that fact and tries to stop him from achieving the right to be treated as everyone else in society... gee, why does ''that'' sound familiar?
* TheWoobie: The poor ice cream truck salesman. [[ThrowTheDogABone Good thing that everything ends well for him.]]
