[[folder:In General]]
* Revealing that you have a secret advantage or Hidden Immunity Idol and ''assuming'' that people will not use it against you.
* Not playing a Hidden Immunity Idol (or playing Shot in the Dark if you don't have an idol) when you're blatantly in danger. Often, people have been voted out of the game with an idol in their pocket. Even worse is not even bringing it to Tribal Council.
* Not taking out the biggest threat in the game and going to the Final Tribal Council (FTC) with them. You are guaranteed to not become the SoleSurvivor if you do that, as the jury will see you as a coattail rider at best and a goat at worst. The only way this could work is if the biggest threat wins immunity or if you are an equally good player.
** On the same note, being a big FTC threat (due to likability/family life/intelligence) and trusting your allies not to vote you out once it comes time for the final alliance to split. You’re much, much better off breaking the alliance before then.
* [[HonorBeforeReason Sticking with your original alliance, no matter what]]. Particularly bad if you realize you’re probably on the bottom and still trust your alliance instead of flipping.
* Having somebody on the bottom state to you that they have a Hidden Immunity Idol and blindly trusting them. Even if they're telling the truth, actually ''playing'' it is often a bluff.
* Telling people at the bottom of your alliance that they're at the bottom. You're just asking for them to flip on you that way.
** Similarly, telling the person going home that night that they're going home. You better hope and pray that they don't have an idol if you do that.
* Looking for a hidden immunity idol all by yourself within the first day. You are guaranteed to have people be suspicious of you and likely have your name thrown out as a first boot due to how nobody else wants to be the first boot.
** In a similar vein, being away from camp for too long within the first day. Even if you weren't looking for an idol then, people will suspect that you are looking for one, thus people will be more likely to target you.
* Forcing people to not have strategy talks behind their backs. This worked exactly once in ''Redemption Island'', and three times subsequently, people got voted out because they have tried to do this (Garrett in ''Cagayan'', Jeremy in ''David vs. Goliath'', and Boston Rob in ''Winners at War'').
* In some individual immunity challenges, Jeff Probst might offer up food in which the players forfeit the immunity challenge for that food. While the extra nourishment is good, partaking despite knowing you're in danger, not so much.
* Trying to make big moves too early, especially from an already good position. While getting to the end after a big play is really impressive, doing so without enough tact can burn bridges and make ''you'' the target instead.
* When a large alliance ends up in the final 6 or 7, everyone insists they're all going to be in the final 3, never questioning how 6 or 7 people will take up only 3 spots.
* A production one: constantly using the same challenges over and over, not realizing the contestants would catch on and practice them at home, resulting in easy sweeps.

* Sean has decided that he wants no part of the lying, scheming, and backstabbing. Instead, he has come across a new strategy: he will cast his vote in alphabetical order, and make it clear to everyone that this is all he will do, so everyone knows that if he votes for them, it's nothing personal.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That at some point he realizes what a moronic idea this is.\
'''Instead:''' He continues with this strategy. The other Tagi realize what a stroke of luck this is, and all cast their votes alphabetically.\
'''As a Result:''' Because the Pagongs have names in the first half of the alphabet, they get taken out one-by-one and by the time Sean realizes he's just acted as a free vote, everyone else hates him and the other Tagis hold a majority of all votes. And then, with no further use needed of him, Sean gets booted off, and a FanNickname is born.
* At the final 8, the Pagongs have their last chance to tie up the game. If they can stop Sean from voting for a Pagong, they can force a tie and potentially save their games. Colleen realizes that Jenna is Sean's target tonight as per Sean's aforementioned alphabet strategy.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since the challenge is a strategy game in which players can affect other players, and since they're all fine with working together by this point, they all fight to get Jenna immune. This would cause Sean to vote for Kelley (A Tagi).\
'''Instead:''' Only Gervase seems to realize this, [[YouAreAlreadyDead and only once the challenge is bound to be Sean or Rudy's to win]].\
'''As a Result:''' They are unable to flip Sean to their cause, dooming themselves to be [[FanNickname Pagonged]].

[[folder:''The Australian Outback'']]
* Jerri is currently running Ogakor, and is aligned with everyone on her tribe except Keith.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Jerri does not make anyone in her alliance feel isolated.\
'''Instead:''' At tribal council, Jerri says that Colby/Mitchell/Amber are her friends, but forgets about Tina.\
'''As a Result:''' Tina realizes she's on the bottom of the alliance, and turns on Jerri, getting her ally eliminated and ensuring gets eliminated soon after the merge.
* It's the fourth tribal and Tina knowing she's on the bottom wants to turn the tables on Jerri since she's the leader and has the most past votes. She first approaches Mitchell and asks for him to join her and Keith.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Mitchell to at least lie and accept the offer to try and keep Tina unsuspecting. He also has a past vote and could be in danger.\
'''Instead:''' He tells her no. Tina then makes Colby the same offer who accepts.\
'''As a Result:''' Tina, Colby and Keith put their votes on Mitchell who goes in the tiebreaker.\
'''Even Worse:''' Tina, Colby and Keith wind up being the Final 3 of the season.
* The tribes have merged, and it's 5-5, meaning that it's looking like a deadlocked vote at the next Tribal Council and the 'previous votes' tiebreaker rule might come into play. Jeff Varner is the only person on his tribe with a previous vote, meaning he and his tribe are in an excellent position to win the game as long as he doesn't get votes.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Varner fight for immunity at the next challenge no matter what to keep himself safe.\
'''Instead:''' At the Immunity Challenge, he jumps off his pole as soon as Probst offers some peanut butter.\
'''As a Result:''' Keith (an Ogakor member with past votes) wins immunity and Varner is swiftly voted out by the other tribe, dooming his tribe.

[[folder:''Africa'']]
* At the first vote Boran has decided to boot their weakest member Diane. However, Boran isn't particularly happy with Clarence, who took a can of beans without asking. Thing is, they need them for the Challenges.\
'''You'd Expect''': The tribe vote unanimously vote for Diane to make sure they won't lose a tiebreaker.\
'''Instead''': Tom votes for Clarence as a "warning vote".\
'''You'd then expect''': Now that Clarence has a "warning vote" and hasn't done anything wrong since they drop the issue and move on.\
'''Instead''' Toms votes for Clarence AGAIN in the next episode.\
'''As a Result''': As far as they know, Boran will likely lose a tiebreaker if they merge 5-5 (Like the prior 2 seasons did), and would have done so if they'd lost any of the pre-merge challenges. All for a pretty unnecessary warning.
* It's Episode 9, and Lex, who has just received an unknown vote during what he believed was going to be a unanimous vote-off against Clarence at the merge, is hell-bent on finding out who made that throwaway vote against him. He eventually concludes that his former Boran tribemate Kelly had cast the vote, when in fact it was Teresa (a former member of the Samburu tribe).\
'''You'd Expect:''' In an era of ''Survivor'' where voting along tribal lines was the norm - even with the ''low'' justification that it was Kelly that cast the vote - that Lex would at least wait until he had significantly [[FanNickname pagonged]] the former Samburus before getting rid of Kelly.\
'''Instead:''' He press-gangs his allies into voting for Kelly based on his "gut decision". Kelly, obviously pissed for being on the wrong end of a WitchHunt, flips to the Samburus to get rid of Lex, and would have succeeded in doing so had Brandon not held an even bigger IdiotBall than Lex's. (See below)\
'''As a result:''' Thanks to Brandon this move doesn't ''immediately'' cost Lex the game, but it does cost him a lot of popularity, both with the tribe and the audience. It's also pretty safe to say this cost him the game when Kim had to choose which friend to lose to at the final 3.\
'''And for bonus irony:''' The person that ''did'' cast the vote makes it to the final 5... which is '''much''' further than she would have gotten had Lex not done this.
* That same episode, the former Samburus are in a 4-5 minority against the former Borans, which would become a 5-4 majority after Kelly's flip. However, Brandon hates Frank and is hesitant over wanting to align with him anymore, despite not getting along with most of the Borans.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Brandon would stick with his original tribe regardless and vote out Lex.\
'''Instead:''' He flips to the Borans, and Kelly gets voted out 5-4.\
'''As a Result:''' This not only pisses off the Samburus, but the Borans (mainly Ethan) can't trust him, and Brandon is promptly voted out at the next Tribal Council. And having now ended up in a 3-4 minority, the Samburus are subsequently pagonged.\
'''What's Worse:''' Both Brandon ''and'' Frank were among the Clarence voters in the final 10, so he ''has'' voted on the same side as Frank once before, making his decision here more baffling.
* Immediately following that episode, the 3 main Samburus still left, Teresa, Frank and Kim Powers, now know that the group of Brandon, Lex, Tom, Ethan, and Kim Johnson aren't working together as the latter 3 don't trust Brandon and plan on voting for him. Brandon and Lex plan on voting for Frank.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For them to vote for Tom as they know that he has past votes and if it goes to a tie between him and Brandon he will be gone and they could wrestle control back.\
'''Instead:''' They are mad enough at Brandon that they join in voting him out destroying any chance at a comeback.\
[[/folder]]

[[folder:''Marquesas'']]
* The Maraamu tribe is in pretty big trouble challenge-wise. After eliminating 2 strong challenge performers for personal reasons, they can't seem to win any of the challenges. They lose their third immunity in a row.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Everyone to quickly realize that eliminating strong challenge performers for "being bossy" or "Being Weird" is an amazing way for your tribe to crash and burn, and for them to vote out Sarah, or at least one of Vecepia/Gina. Especially Rob, who has enough votes to be in control of the tribe by this point.\
'''Instead:''' Rob convinces his allies to vote out Hunter, the most athletic person on their tribe, solely because he doesn't like his bossiness and wants to have complete control over his tribe.\
'''As a result:''' Maraamu is pretty much destined to lose all the challenges from there on out. While the immediate Tribe swap ''seems'' to make things irrelevant, it comes back to bite Rob in the butt when Gina poisons Rob's reputation with Neleh and Paschal, resulting in his elimination at the merge.
* Rotu at the moment is a completely undamaged tribe and Kathy is at the bottom of that tribe, but all of a sudden "The Winds" twist has shuffled the tribes. The Rotu 4, helmed by John Carroll is currently on a large tribe of 8 with three Maaramus from the other tribe. That said, Gabriel is also on this tribe and while he is a member of the original Rotu tribe, he refuses to strategize.\
'''You'd Expect:''' He takes out Rob Mariano or Sean Rector of the Maaramu tribe, who are barely pretending to be on his side.\
'''Instead:''' He forms a flimsy alliance with all the Maaramus, then takes Gabriel out.\
'''As a result:''' The other members of Rotu are extremely concerned about why Gabriel of all people was eliminated, and eventually turn on the Rotu 4, with the help of Sean.
* It's the final nine, and John, Rob, Tammy, Zoe, Paschal, and Neleh are part of a majority alliance against the minority trio of Kathy, Sean, and Vecepia. At the Immunity Challenge, each player gets to choose whomever they want to eliminate from the challenge by cutting some ropes and making their bundle of coconuts fall.\
'''You'd Expect:''' The majority alliance puts no particular order into their selection for the challenge.\
'''Instead:''' The majority alliance (specifically: John, Robert, Tammy, and Zoe - aka the Rotu Four) make it abundantly clear that Paschal and Neleh are on the bottom of the group and would be the first to go after the minority alliance is [[FanNickname pagonged]]. Robert is particularly bad with this, practically announcing that Tammy will chop Neleh rather than himself at one point.\
'''As a Result:''' Paschal and Neleh team up with the minority alliance and blindside John that night, and subsequently, pick out the rest of the Rotu Four one-by-one.
* At the final 5, Kathy wins immunity and sides with Paschal and Neleh to vote against Sean and Vecepia.\
'''You'd Expect:''' They remember that the next challenge is Fallen Comrades, and realize that Vecepia is likely to win it (having been close to virtually everyone in the cast), voting her out.\
'''Instead:''' They vote Sean out for being a physical threat.\
'''As a result:''' Vecepia wins Fallen Comrades, and then manages to win the entire season.

[[folder:''Thailand'']]
* It's the Episode 9 Reward Challenge, and Jeff announces the prize will be a full-cut of their loved ones. Brian, who had his alliance seeing him as an "honest working guy", knows that his wife, C.C. can be quite spontaneous and might damage his persona.\
'''You'd Expect:''' He'd just throw the challenge and nobody will notice.\
'''Instead:''' He decides to win the challenge, and it ended up with C.C. showing off their mansion, a grand piano, and '''two''' brand new cars. The biggest one of all is that she wanted Brian to win the show so that they can go to Fiji. If Brian hadn't won every immunity after the pagonging, he might have easily been voted off due to a '''love letter from home'''.

[[folder:''The Amazon'']]
* At the final twelve, Jenna from Jaburu gets sent to spend an overnight paradise with Dave from Tambaqui.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Jenna does not give a member of the opposing tribe information about her tribe, especially when he's not doing the same for her.\
'''Instead:''' Jenna gossips to Dave about every single dynamic of the Jaburu tribe, including her closest allies, alliances, previous Tribal Councils, the social dynamics, and even ''admits herself'' it isn't the best idea to tell Dave all this information.\
'''To Make Matters Worse:''' The next morning, Jeff arrives and informs Jenna and Dave that a swap is about to happen with them alternating picking between tribe members.\
'''As A Result:''' Dave, with all the information he's gained, takes advantage of Jenna's blabbermouth and picks tribe members with intentions to weaken Jenna and her allies.
* At the final seven, a majority alliance of Alex, Heidi, Jenna, and Rob has control over the minority alliance of Christy, Matt, and Butch. Alex starts thinking about his long-term strategy and considers betraying Rob at the final four to take Heidi and Jenna to the final three.\
'''You'd Expect''': Alex would keep all of his long-term plans to himself so Rob would trust him.\
'''Instead:''' Alex tells Rob that he would betray him at the final four.\
'''As A Result:''' Paranoid, Rob teams up with the minority alliance to vote out Alex first.
* At the final six, Christy is deliberating whether to team up with Heidi and Jenna to eliminate Rob, or to team up with Butch, Matt, and Rob to eliminate Jenna.\
'''You'd Expect''': Christy to tell both groups she is on their side, and then vote out her intended target at Tribal Council.\
'''Instead:''' She openly tells Rob, a player known for paranoia and betrayal (see Alex above) that she hasn't decided who she'll vote for.\
'''As A Result:''' Rob decides instead to guarantee his safety by getting Heidi and Jenna to vote out Christy 4-2.
* At the final five, Rob has a 3-2 majority and can choose between Jenna or Heidi to get rid of.\
'''You'd Expect''': Rob would go for Jenna since she has 2 immunity wins to Heidi's 0 and seems to be of relatively equal social standing.\
'''Instead''': Rob decides to have his alliance vote for Heidi instead.\
'''As A Result''': Jenna wins the last 2 immunities and goes on to win the game.\
[[/folder]]

[[folder:''Pearl Islands'']]
* One for the producers. One of the twists of the season is that for every reward challenge that a tribe wins, they get a piece of a treasure map that will lead them to a chest full of food, as well as comfort items.\
'''You'd Expect''': For the food to be nonperishable or at least stuff that will take a while to go bad. After all, the tribe needs to win ''three'' reward challenges in order to get the map, which they can't do in one day.\
'''Instead''': A lot of the food is open or perishable.\
'''Needless To Say''': Most of the food is covered in mold when the Drake tribe finds it and the comfort items smell like utter crap. The only salvageable items are some chocolates and beer.
* The season starts with the players being dropped into a local town where they can barter for supplies with anything on them at the moment.\
'''You'd Expect''': Everyone to only give things away that they could survive without.\
'''Instead''': Osten gives away all of his clothes aside from his boxers.\
'''As a Result''': He promptly gets sick, ensuring his stay is utterly miserable and he's pretty useless because of it, ultimately leading to him becoming the show's first quitter.\
'''Even Worse''': Morgan ends up leaving the town with spare money.
* Burton wants to throw the challenge in Episode 4 since they have an advantage in numbers over Morgan. He wants to go for Christa since she's a weak link and not in his alliance.\
'''You'd Expect''': Burton would keep this plan to his alliance and throw the challenge then cite the valid reason to get rid of Christa afterward.\
'''Instead''': He tells Rupert about his plan who is very unhappy and tells his group too.\
'''As a Result''': Rupert's alliance and Fairplay deciding to go for the bigger threat vote for Burton.
* It's Episode 5, and Michelle is on the bottom of the Drake tribe. It's then revealed via tree mail that the upcoming Immunity Challenge is going to be a gross food-eating competition. Given how Michelle is good at eating gross food, they come up with a plan for Michelle to appear as if she was not good at eating gross food only for the Morgan tribe to pick her in the tiebreaker round so that they can have an easy win.\
'''You'd Expect''': For Michelle to stick with the plan.\
'''Instead''': She didn't follow through with the plan, and when the challenge ''did'' go into a tiebreaker, the Morgans picked the infamously-bad-at-challenges Sandra instead. The Drake tribe ended up losing, sending them to Tribal Council as well as sealing Michelle's fate in the game by being voted out that night.
* After the reveal of the Outcasts twist, Lillian is voted back into the Morgan tribe. Andrew Savage, the leader of Morgan, has Morgan align against the returning “loser” before she comes back. However, due to the rules of the Outcast mechanic, Lillian is immune at the next tribal council.\
'''You’d Expect''': For Andrew and the rest of Morgan to play very nice with Lillian so she doesn’t realize they still want her gone, and thus won’t take action to prevent it, especially if the tribe merger is coming soon.\
'''Instead''': Andrew can’t hide his resentment towards Lillian and does very little to dispel her suspicions.\
'''As A Result''': When the tribes merge the next day, Lillian almost instantly flips to the Drake alliance, voting with them and removing Andrew from the game.
* It’s the final five. Burton and Jon, through cunning and deceit, have divided and destroyed every other alliance and seem set to go to the final two. The other three players- Lillian, Sandra, and Darrah- all distrust each other, but know Burton and Jon are tight. Burton wins a reward challenge, which includes dinner and camp in the ruins of old Panama.\
'''You’d Expect''': Burton brings one of the women along on the reward trip (Preferably Lil, his fellow outcast/ally). This allows Burton and Jon to continue their divide and rule strategy: The women won’t be alone and thus can’t conspire together, and Burton can attempt to sway the woman brought on the trip into joining him at the next vote.\
'''Instead''': Burton brings Jon on the reward trip. They treat this as a premature victory lap, enjoying the feast and gloating about how they have a straight shot to the final two. They speculate that the women might conspire against them in their absence, but say that [[StrawMisogynist their intellectual advantage over the women means they can easily break up any alliance when they get back to camp]].\
'''As A Result''': While Jon and Burton are gone, the women make an alliance to vote against them. Jon tries to get Sandra to break from the alliance, but it was mainly her idea in the first place. Burton is then voted out by the women and Jon is stuck with no backup against three people.\
'''As An Added Bonus''': In the DVD commentary for this episode, Jon himself calls Burton out for not bringing Lil on the reward, noting that he expected him to do so.

[[folder:''All-Stars'']]
* Colby gets into a spat with Shii-Ann early on in the season.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Frankly he just not do this, and try to get along with her. Every vote can count in a social game like ''Survivor'' and Colby knows he can't trust anyone.\
'''Instead:''' He insults her strategy and declares her to be unworthy of being there.\
'''As A Result''': Shii-Ann is the swing vote that sends him out in the very next episode, and points to this argument as a reason why she flips on him.
* Lex, due to his inane choices regarding his tribe, which he had the most control over.
** So Lex's tribe wants to vote out Richard Hatch, preferably in a blindside to make it more glorious. Lex declares that "Richard was only the king when he was playing with a bunch of sheep." Despite the inherent problems with that statement, it is apparently what Lex believes and should be kept in mind.\
'''You'd Expect:''' In a season where contestants were given almost nothing to survive with, Lex at least thinks about the ramifications of voting out the guy bringing them their food with his fishing, ''especially'' if he believes that Richard isn't a threat to him for the reasons he ''just'' declared.\
'''Instead:''' He gets caught up in the glory of voting out the most iconic player of the game, and presumably thinks this will make him look like the better player. Unfortunately, less food means his tribe is less likely to continue dominating the Challenges.
** Next up, Jerri is on the chopping block since she's in the dumps at camp.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Lex to stick with the plan. There's no reason not to, except-\
'''Instead:''' Lex feels that his mistake last time was "failing to make a big move" eons before Russell Hantz adopted it as his catchphrase, and gets everyone but Ethan to vote Colby out, apparently seeing him as a threat.\
'''As a result:''' Ethan is alarmed about Lex going behind his back, realizing that they aren't as close as he thought they were. Additionally, their tribe starts losing every single challenge up to the merge.
** Lex pulls his last boneheaded move just before the merge: At the tribe change-up, Amber ends up separated from her Chapera tribemates, and is put with the Mogo Mogo tribe (who are now in the Chapera camp). Lex (and the rest of his tribe members) have seen that Rob is highly protective of Amber, and has already proven himself to be a superior force in challenges. At the Immunity Challenge, Rob goes to Lex immediately after and tells him he will be protected, provided that Lex protects Amber in turn.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That after already eliminating three good competitors (Richard, Colby, and Ethan) with backroom deals, he would look out for himself and eliminate Amber at the next Tribal Council, which would (a) put his tribe ahead of Rob's team, (b) demoralize Rob and (c) allow Lex to eliminate an opposing force before he makes any more moves. After all, Lex has already seen Rob carry most of his original team through half the game.\
'''Instead:''' Lex takes Rob at his word, and spares Amber by voting out another loyal tribemate (Jerri, who told Lex he owns her vote). In the following episode (where the teams merge as Chaboga Mogo), Rob tells him point-blank that he's not going to help him, and Lex is swiftly voted out that night at Tribal Council.\
'''As a final result:''' Following this, Mogo Mogo gets pagonged by the tight-knit Chapera. For his part, Lex does admit that he seriously screwed up when he did what Rob asked.
* Oh yes and relating to that last one, Lex wasn't the only one to screw up. Amber is probably going to be voted out if Rob's tribe wins.\
'''You'd Expect:''' He ''throw the challenge'' to save Amber and vote out the one person on his tribe not aligned to him, Alicia.\
'''Instead:''' He makes a vague deal that "he'll protect Lex if Lex protects her", a complete fabrication that he barely expects to work. He then makes a final 2 deal with Alicia on the off chance Amber is gone and he needs numbers.\
'''As a result''' His plan works due to Lex screwing up pretty badly... but at the cost of his game. His needless final two deal with Alicia is broken swiftly, as is his fake deal with Lex, costing him both of their votes. Add this to Shii-Ann realizing Amber is playing a much better game than Rob is (due to his idiocy), and Lex's friend Kathy (who really should not have been expected to vote for Rob), and you see Rob essentially screwed himself out of all four of the votes he needed to win the game in one dumb move.
* Rupert wins a Reward Challenge, but it turns out to be a Coconut chop challenge in disguise, as Rupert must give everyone food from best to worst. Rather than do this himself, he decides to let his tribemates select which food they want.\
'''You'd expect:''' He spread out his decisions to not let people on the outs know that they are on the outs.\
'''Instead:''' He makes the Coconut chopping even more blatant by selecting his alliance members to take their foods first, which would be a problem, but...
** Due to Rupert now selecting his alliance members to take food first, Big Tom is chosen close to last and receives cold potatoes.\
'''You'd expect:''' He realizes he's on the bottom of his alliance and do something about it.\
'''Instead:''' He complains about receiving cold potatoes, but ignores it and assumes he's guaranteed to be in the final 2 with Rob.\
'''As a result:''' He's voted out at the final 5 and ''shocked'' about it.
* Oh boy, and speaking of- the Final 5 is just full of this
** When everyone is down to the final five, everyone knows Rob and Amber are an unbreakable couple, with Shii-Ann even voting for Amber in an attempt to signal the winner to everyone before it's too late.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Jenna Lewis to plan with Rupert in secret to get Rob or Amber out.\
'''Instead:''' Jenna plans with Rupert to get Rob out... [[ImStandingRightHere in front of Rob!]]\
'''As A Result:''' Rob knows what's what and we get the following idiocy.
** Rob now knows he's being schemed against and plans to put a stop to it. Unfortunately, Rupert and Jenna manage to talk Tom into potentially scheming to get Rob out.\
'''You'd Expect:''' The three players, who all know that Rob has been tight with Amber since the beginning of the game (an alliance which he has told them multiple times he wouldn't break), would eliminate Amber immediately (Rob wins immunity so he was out) and take out Rob at the next Tribal Council, leaving the three of them left. Rupert and Jenna plan to do so, talking with Tom.\
'''You'd Also Expect:''' Tom to consider that Rob might lie to him to further his own game.\
'''Instead:''' Rob tricks Tom into thinking Rupert told him everything... because that seems logical.\
'''You'd then Expect:''' Tom to keep this information to himself and vote out Rupert with Rob, or at least wonder why on earth Rupert would do such a thing.\
'''Instead:''' He fights with him, insisting that Rupert is a turncoat. All while Rob smirks in the background.\
'''As A Result:''' The paranoia around the Tom fight convinces Rupert and Jenna alliance to ''actually'' work with Rob to vote out Tom. Tom for his part, votes for Jenna (for some reason?).
** Oh, and on a related note, Rob and Amber aren't ''quite'' sure which person to send home yet. They decide to have a little chat with Tom to discern his loyalties.\
'''You'd Expect:''' He maintains that he'd never turn on them.\
'''Instead:''' He claims he'd never turn on them and that Rupert is a liar, that he never even considered voting with anyone but Rob and Amber... [[ImmediateSelfContradiction then calls himself the swing vote]].\
'''As A Result:''' Rob and Amber deem him too untrustworthy to keep around and boot him.
* It's the Finale and it's Jenna Lewis and Rupert vs Amber and Rob. Amber wins immunity. Jenna has agreed to boot Rupert, as forcing a tie at the final four would result in one of Jenna, Rupert, or Rob being eliminated at random.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since Jenna sucks at challenges (always being beaten by Amber and Rob, even in endurance challenges), she realizes that voting for Rupert will guarantee her third place. As such, she forces that tie in the hopes of Rob being booted as it is her one potential path to the final 2.\
'''Instead:''' Jenna takes the easy path forwards and votes Rupert out.\
'''As Expected:''' Amber and Rob both easily outlast Jenna in the final immunity challenge, and send her home next.

* In the second episode Dolly seems to be the swing vote between the two factions on Yasur.\

'''Instead:''' She tells the older group she is voting out Leann who is in their group.\
'''The Result:''' The older group vote for her and Eliza flips to ensure her safety sending her home.
* The tribe swap sees Rory and Bubba go to Yasur, and Julie and Twila to Lopevi. Bubba and Rory have a five person alliance with Chris, Sarge, and Chad on Lopevi.\
'''You'd Expect:''' They would just put their best feet forward in the challenge and allow their allies on Lopevi to vote out the people not on the tribe.\
'''Instead:''' Bubba tries to tell Chris to throw the challenge to "think of the numbers," with everyone present.\
'''The Result:''' Not only does Lopevi ''not'' throw the challenge (they were all pretty enthusiastic about their win), Bubba's attempt caught Ami's attention, and Bubba is voted out unanimously for being untrustworthy.
* It's Episode 11, the women have a 6-1 majority, and the lone remaining male, Chris, has just lost the Immunity Challenge. When Chris accepts his fate, Ami & Leann (who hold the most power) take pity on him and decide to vote off Eliza (who irritated most of the tribemates) instead. When Twila hears about this news, she advises them to vote off Chris first, since Chris would automatically get the guys' jury votes if he made it to the end.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Ami and Leann would take her advice and just vote off Chris.\
'''Instead:''' They remain adamant in voting off Eliza, which leads to Twila realizing that she doesn't have a high position in the pecking order. \
'''In Addition To That:''' Julie (another member of the women's alliance) actually ''informs'' Chris of their plans to vote off Eliza. \
'''As a Result:''' Knowing that he's now safe, Chris approaches Twila and her closest ally Scout, who are ready to flip on the women's alliance to help him and turn the game on its head. Eliza is eventually persuaded to join in after being informed of Ami's plans, and together they blindside Leann at Tribal Council. Ami and Julie are soon picked off at the next two Tribal Councils, completely wiping out their alliance. \

'''Instead:''' He wins a reward and takes Jenn and Katie with him.\

'''You'd Expect:''' Erik to also vote Todd.\
'''Instead:''' He also votes for James. Though James doesn't play either idol, which means he is out, if he had played one of them then it would have gone to a tie between Todd and Peih-Gee where Peih-Gee definitely goes on the revote.\

* It's Episode 4, and after finding the Hidden Immunity Idol, Ozzy creates a fake one and puts it where he found the real deal, hoping to trip up whoever finds it. He's not an expert craftsman though, and the best he can make is a poorly carved stick with a misshapen smiley face on it. A couple of episodes later, Jason finds said fake idol.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Jason would be suspicious of how cheaply made it looks, and subsequently realize that it's a blatant fake and someone else got the real one.\
'''Instead:''' He buys it hook, line, and sinker. So much so that when his ally Eliza comes under fire at the merge, he gives her the "Idol" to use at Tribal Council, and is ''genuinely shocked'' when Jeff announces that it's not the real thing. Eliza is voted out that night, but not before revealing who had the real Immunity Idol.\
'''What's Worse:''' The shock is even more laughable when you consider that Eliza had confronted him about the idol earlier, expressed disbelief that Jason thought it was legitimate, and outright '''told''' him it was a fake and that Ozzy had the real one. And yet he ''still'' kept insisting that his "Idol" was real because, no kidding, [[TooDumbToLive "it has a face on it"]].
* After the next Immunity Challenge, Cirie approaches Alexis, Jason, Natalie, and Parvati about tricking Ozzy into thinking that Jason, his latest target, would be going out, so he wouldn't play the idol and they could blindside him.\
'''You'd Expect:''' No matter what was happening in the tribe, Ozzy brings the idol with him to Tribal Council as a rule of thumb.\
'''Instead:''' When they get to Tribal Council, Ozzy realizes that he had '''FORGOTTEN''' to bring the idol with him that night.\
'''As A Result:''' He gets blindsided and sent home.\
'''Then:''' Next episode, Jason is sent to Exile Island, and is informed that a new Immunity Idol had been hidden there. He succeeds at finding the idol before returning for the next Immunity Challenge, which he loses.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For him to hide his idol somewhere where it can't be found by another tribemate.\
'''Instead:''' He leaves it in his bag.\
'''As A Result:''' The girls rummaged through his bag after Erik won immunity, and find the idol inside. Natalie, having already convinced Jason that James was the new target, reassures him of the plan, and he doesn't play the idol, resulting in ''HIM'' getting blindsided.
* Alexis wins the Family Visit Reward and gets the option of sending someone to Exile Island, and she knows that clues for a new idol are there as Jason was voted out with the idol in the previous episode. She has already picked Cirie and Natalie to go with her on reward. In addition Amanda someone who she has had something of a rivalry with and is allied with through their allies but isn't personally close with just asked Alexis to send her.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For her to send Parvati to Exile, since Alexis is much closer to her than Amanda and she would be less likely to go against her if she does find the idol.\
'''Instead:''' She sends Amanda, who deciphers the clues to the idol and finds it at camp.\
'''As a Result:''' When Erik wins immunity at the Final 6 and the target goes against Amanda she plays the idol, saving herself and getting rid of Alexis.
* In possibly the most stunning example of this in the entire series: At the final five, 4 of the remaining castaways (all women) are in an alliance. When the outsider, Erik, wins the Immunity Challenge, the four women plot to get him to willingly surrender his immunity. They send one of their group to convince him that he needs to give it up to "redeem" himself. Natalie herself [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] the absurdity of the scheme possibly succeeding, stating "who would fall for that?"\
'''You'd Expect:''' Erik tells Natalie exactly where to stick her request, knowing that this game is based upon the concept of "Looking out for #1."\
'''Instead:''' He gives her the Immunity Necklace just before they go up to vote. No points if you guess what happened next. \
'''Adding Insult To Injury:''' Parvati ripped him a new one while casting her vote, jesting: "You'll officially go down as the dumbest Survivor ever, in the history of ''Survivor'', ever". His move was so epically stupid that James, the guy known for getting eliminated while sitting on two Hidden Immunity Idols, stated in the jury box that Erik had beaten him for the title of "dumbest Survivor ever". [[note]]Ironically, 4 years earlier on the second season of ''Series/TheApprentice'', another Mark Burnett show, Bradford Cohen gave up HIS immunity to being eliminated for the wrong reasons ([[WhatAnIdiot/TheApprentice he also was terminated from his chance to win that program]]; the only major difference is Brad did it on his own, without the persuasion of his teammates.)[[/note]]

'''You'd Expect:''' When Susie asks Marcus if she can trust him, he would say, "Yes you can, Susie. Which of the two do you want to go home?"\
'''Instead:''' He either ignores or doesn't answer her or give her any trust, and instead goes to Crystal based ''solely'' over the fact that he was best friends with her cousin. He makes her an offer to replace Susie in her alliance as #6 if she votes off her closest ally, Ken.\
'''As a Result:''' Not being a complete idiot, Crystal rats him out to Susie and they handily vote Marcus out 3-2.
* At the Final 7 Ken's alliance has 5-2 advantage with Bob and Corinne being the last 2 in the minority. Bob makes a very convincing fake idol and tells Ken that he'll play it for Corinne after Bob wins immunity and that the two of them will vote Matty.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Ken and his closest ally Crystal to fully commit to one of the two choices: either still vote off Corinne or both flip and vote Matty to avoid the idol since they don't know its fake and its good enough that they are not dumb for being tricked.\
'''Instead:''' One of them votes Corinne and the other votes Matty, which means Corinne is still out but Matty is angry that someone in his group voted for him and Crystal and Ken get heat for playing both sides.\

* In Episode 3, Galu wins the Immunity and Reward Challenge, and leader Russell Swan is given the choice between a tarp or pillows and blankets.\
'''You’d Expect:''' Swan to pick the tarp, considering his tribe and the weather.\
'''Instead:''' He picks the pillows and blankets, opting for tribal comfort for the ladies.\
'''Predictably:''' The rain rolls around a few days later, and Swan ends up exerting himself throughout Day 15 to keep the tribal fire alight, and also fish.\
'''Result:''' Unfortunately, Swan ends up collapsing during a Reward Challenge that same day and had to be medically withdrawn due to his fluctuating heart rate. While just the second loss of a tribemate Galu endures during pre-merge, his departure left the tribe divided for the rest of the game, which becomes evident when they vote Shambo as their new leader in a mixed vote.\
'''Furthermore:''' Some Galu members, such as John, gave Swan a chance to rest, yet he chose to take part due to his leadership and determination. Had he chosen to sit this challenge out, let alone gone with the tarp over the pillows and blankets, then perhaps none of what follows would’ve happened.
* Episode 8, Galu enters the merge with an 8-4 advantage. As Russell Hantz shows his hidden immunity idol and talk about a deal to several Galu tribemates, the rumour mill gets going as Galu plot to vote.\
'''You’d Expect:''' Everyone on Galu to target a Foa-Foa member, preferably someone other than Hantz.\
'''Or:''' Failing that, considering how she has been prior to the merge, blindside Shambo.\
'''Instead:''' John, considering the idea of targeting Foa-Foa is like playing "Junior Varsity Survivor", floats the idea of voting Monica out to Erik. While Erik does tell every Foa-Foa member but Hantz to vote Monica, it snowballs into Natalie convincing Laura and Kelly to get rid of an untrustworthy Erik in a 10-2 blindside. Keep in mind in this episode that Brett wanted to vote out a Foa-Foa member while Shambo voted alongside Erik (which she revealed in her time at Ponderosa).\
'''Then:''' Come Episode 9, after Russell Hantz burned an idol in the previous Tribal Council, Galu consider the idea of targeting him. However, Monica proposes an idea to split the vote in case Hantz does nab another idol.\
'''You’d Expect:''' In the event of this, everyone on Galu to vote for a different Foa-Foa member, say Natalie for example, in a 4-3 split, potentially exposing Hantz as a predictable player before ultimately voting him off.\
'''Instead:''' Dave insists on not to worry about that, and the Galu members just go with it and pile their votes onto Hantz.\
'''Result:''' At Tribal Council, Hantz stands up, says "I ain’t finished playing just yet", hands the hidden immunity idol that he found earlier this episode to Jeff Probst, and Kelly gets blindsided 4-0. Dave has the audacity to be shocked over this when Monica knew very well this could've happened.\
'''Even Worse:''' The following episode, Shambo – having enough of 'fake purple' Galu – jumps ship to Foa-Foa, turning into an even 5-5 playing field. Come that episode’s Tribal Council, with the potential possibility of a rock draw…\
'''You’d Expect:''' Every remaining Galu member (except Shambo) to stay firm and vote Natalie. At best, a Foa-Foa member goes. At worst, a Galu member goes.\
'''Instead:''' John freaks out over potentially going to rocks and switches his vote to Laura in the re-vote, eliminating her.\
'''End Result:''' Galu gets systematically picked off one by one while Brett is the last Galu eliminated, as Foa-Foa ultimately shuts them out of the Final Three.\
'''For What It's Worth:''' Upon being eliminated, Kelly and Dave at least recognized that getting rid of Erik first instead of a Foa-Foa member was a bad idea.
* In Episode 13, Monica knows she's very likely to be next on the chopping block and thus [[NotAfraidToDie Not Afraid To Have Her Torch Snuffed]]. She goes up to Russell, informs him very plainly how important it is to get on the good side of whoever is going to be on the jury and informs him precisely of what he can expect if he ignores the warning.\
'''You'd expect:''' Russell would at least pause to give the idea some serious thought, especially since the endgame is only a few days away.\
'''Instead:''' He flat out brushes the warnings off, both to her face and in a confessional.
* Right before the merge, Russell chooses to bring Natalie over Liz, because "Natalie is smarter and better at getting in with the other tribe".\
'''You'd expect:''' Russell have her voted out at some point before the jury for those very reasons, considering Jurors generally vote for smart people that are nice to them. This is a fundamental of ''Survivor'' and has shown up in virtually every season.\
'''Instead:''' He never even considers it. Not once, despite considering everyone else a valid target at one point or another.\
'''You'd also expect:''' Him to treat the jurors with a modicum of respect.\
'''Instead:''' He trashes all of them, calling the women "little b***ches" and making fake promises to the men to bring them further, then blindsiding them.\
'''And then:''' At Final Tribal, he talks about how he's the best strategic player to ever play the game, and that he is entitled to the title of sole survivor. Jurors generally don't like the implication that they were steamrolled by a player because it makes them look bad.\
'''As a result:''' Natalie steamrolls him in the jury because they respect her humble nature, honesty, and general kindness. Doesn't hurt that she went out of her way to make friends with a decent portion of the jury (At least Brett and Jaison from what we see)\
'''You'd then expect:''' He accepts his loss with some dignity, even if he is upset.\
'''Instead:''' He goes on a rant about how undeserving Natalie is, and tries to ''buy the title of sole survivor from her''.\
'''As a result:''' He gets a massive fanbase by getting a massive % of the screen time, with an ungodly 108 confessionals (Mostly consisting of declaring something will happen, followed by it happening, and bragging about himself), and creates a popular website called [=RussellGotScrewed=]... [[BaitAndSwitch Wait for what?!]] Well anyways, his gameplay flaws are more recognized today.

[[folder:''Heroes vs. Villains'']]
* During the Double Tribal Council, the Villains are scrambling to vote someone out. Rob's alliance of himself, Tyson, Sandra, Jerri, Coach, and Courtney have the majority against Russell's minority alliance of himself, Parvati, and Danielle, but Russell has an idol. Rob plans on splitting the vote so they can flush out the idol. During this, Russell approaches Tyson about the vote.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Tyson would stick with his alliance's plan and stick with voting Russell. At worst, this would've led to a 3-3-0 tie where the person who didn't play the idol would be voted out on a revote. \
'''Instead:''' He switches his vote to Parvati. Russell plays his idol for Parvati instead of himself, sending Tyson out in a 3-2-0 vote.
* Midway through the season, J.T. discovers a Hidden Immunity Idol, and the group agrees to share it in case they go to another Tribal Council or merge with the Villains. Concurrently, they've also assumed that Russell is on the wrong end of an AmazonBrigade, and is constantly fighting for his game life against five other female players. J.T. subsequently decides to set a precedent and give the group's Hidden Immunity Idol to Russell so he can vote out Parvati.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That given how Russell is a member of the Villains, and they have no way of knowing his true intentions, they would just keep it to themselves and not give any member of the opposing team an advantage.\
'''Instead:''' J.T. enacts GoodIsDumb, and smuggles the Idol to Russell during the next Immunity Challenge. Russell, who has been ''leading'' the so-called women's alliance, takes out Courtney (a periphery player) and, after the teams merge, J.T. is idoled out at the next Tribal Council ''with his own idol'' due to Parvati's machinations.\
'''As a Result:''' The Villains now have a 5-4 majority, and subsequently the Heroes are (mostly) picked off one-by-one. For bonus points, Candice later flips and helps the Villains, despite Sandra (a Villain) telling her not to.\
'''Adding Insult to Injury:''' At the live reunion, Jeff reveals that they held a public vote on the dumbest move in ''Survivor'' history, which J.T. won, beating out other "dumbest Survivor ever" moves like James, Erik, and Tyson above, and was even presented with a mini trophy. [[SelfDeprecation At least J.T. saw the funny side of it]].
* Later, with the Villains outnumbering the Heroes, Sandra goes to Colby and Rupert (both Heroes) and tells them that Russell can't be trusted. She explains that he played the Heroes team for fools when they gave him their Hidden Immunity Idol and that he's the one who's been leading the rest of the female Villains (as well as being the one who destroyed Sandra's alliance with Courtney). She tells them this no less than three times in the span of two episodes.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That, given that J.T. was knocked out post-merge by Russell (after telling the Heroes that he had previously played it to save himself (something that never happened), and already showed that he broke his word multiple times, they would at least try Sandra's advice and knock out Russell before he becomes a bigger threat.\
'''Instead:''' Nobody besides Rupert believes her. The Heroes try and vote her out instead, and they get systematically eliminated by Russell's alliance, leaving only the Villains left in the final three. Sandra proceeds to call the Heroes out on this at the Final Tribal Council, and Rupert even joins in by using his jury speech to give her a grovelling apology for their collective stupidity.\
'''Even Worse:''' A Secret Scene revealed that Russell and Parvati were walking around camp reading J.T's letter out loud (and laughing about it) within earshot of the rest of the Heroes, and they ''still'' didn't do anything.
* Meanwhile, Russell goes through this ''hard'' at the final seven: at this stage, the remaining contestants are his alliance with Parvati, Danielle, and Jerri, plus Sandra who's aligned with nobody, and Rupert and Colby who are on the outs. But Russell is beginning to become suspicious of Parvati and Danielle, on account of the two of them keeping a ''[[MeaningfulName Hidden]]'' [[FelonyMisdemeanor Immunity Idol secret from him]] (which wasn't all that wise on their part, either).\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Russell would keep his core alliance with Parvati and Danielle strong, given that they've been working together from the get-go (not to mention that the two are at this point ''the only ones left that will talk to him''), just to be sure that the three of them will go to the end.\
'''Instead:''' He decides to pit the two of them against one another in hopes of separating them. When Danielle calls him out on it at Tribal Council, he proceeds to talk to Danielle like she's crap and bring her to tears ''in front of the entire jury'' before voting her out.\
'''As a Result:''' If [[http://funny115.com/v2/3_18997.jpg Courtney's reaction]] is any indication, this destroys whatever slim chance was left of him winning. Or, for that matter, avoiding a HumiliationConga.
* To go with the above two examples, Parvati has been given Russell's Hidden Immunity Idol that was gifted to Russell by J.T., and she and Danielle find another idol together. Parvati decides she will use these idols to pull off a big move in the next Tribal Council. Knowing that the Heroes plan to vote out either Jerri or Sandra, she gifts the two idols to both ladies, resulting in a big move that saves Jerri and blindsides J.T.\
'''You'd Expect''': That Parvati and Danielle fill Russell in on it since he's their closest ally. The move would still be seen as having been perpetrated by Parvati, giving her the credit, and it would keep their alliance with Russell solid.\
'''Instead''': Parvati decides that she won't tell anything to Russell, not only because she wants to show she can make moves without needing him, but also because she thinks it would be fun to keep him out of the loop and make him squirm. This is despite her ''knowing'' that Russell will be angry about being kept out of the loop and that when Russell becomes angry at someone, he tends to vote them out.\
'''As a Result''': Predictably so, Russell grows increasingly angry and paranoid about Parvati and Danielle making a big move without him, keeping an idol secret, and being closer to one another than they are to him. He decides to try pitting them against each other, and when it doesn't work, he decides to lie through his teeth (which everyone knows he's doing) at Tribal Council, and upset and belittle Danielle before voting her out, with Sandra, Jerri (who was part of the Villains alliance but on the lowest rung of it) and the remaining Heroes taking advantage of the situation to help vote Danielle out to break that Villain alliance and destroy what would've been a Final 3 of Parvati, Danielle, and Russell that would've likely gotten Parvati a win.\
'''Even Worse''': Despite realizing that the entire jury hates Russell, Parvati decides to stick with him rather than risk trying to vote him out, likely because she knew he was a perfect goat and wouldn't get any votes, but by sticking with him till the end, as well as she and Russell, reading J.T.'s letter and laughing about it in front of the Heroes, she became guilty by association, ensuring that she'd get no votes from any of the Heroes, all their votes going to Sandra instead. Come the Final 4, it's too late to even think of voting out Russell, because he wins the Final Immunity Challenge, and by then Parvati knows full well that neither she nor Russell can beat Sandra in the Final Tribal Council, but she fails to convince him to vote out Sandra instead of Jerri. She also ''still'' went with it, rather than trying to take matters into her own hand and trying to evict Jerri. Taking everything into consideration, what was Parvati's biggest move in the game ironically also became what ultimately cost her the win in the end.
* The reason why Russell is paranoid about Parvati hiding the idol from him is that he feels that Parvati and Danielle are closer to each other than he is to either of them especially Parvati.\
'''You'd Expect:''' After Parvati seems to smooth over the issues they are having that the villains could vote off one of the two remaining heroes.\
'''Instead:''' At tribal, Danielle tells Russell that she's closer to Parvati than he thinks, seemingly affirming his fears.\
'''The Result:''' Russell and Jerri turn on Danielle costing her the game.
* Russell's entire strategy: convinced that he is the best player ever, he proceeds to lie, backstab and generally screw around with just about everybody. By the time that we get down to the final three, Russell has blindsided and backstabbed his alliance, people he made temporary alliances with, and just about everyone else on the jury. The other two members of the final three are Parvati, his former ally who is regarded as a skilled and dangerous player, and Sandra, who hates his guts, spent most of the season trying to get him voted off and who may not be the strongest player, but has the advantage of not being Russell.\
'''You'd Expect:''' At some point during the season, Russell realizes that pissing off the jury isn't going to end well. You'd expect that by the time of the Final Tribal Council, he might be just a ''little'' bit worried that he's up against his much more likable former ally and his extremely entertaining enemy, and the jury has no reason to like him whatsoever.\
'''Instead:''' He remains convinced of his own superiority (even going so far as to bully Danielle – an ex-finalist – at Tribal Council, and call Rupert a dumbass ''with all ears present''), and shows zero display of remorse for his actions at Final Tribal Council.\
'''As a Result:''' He naturally loses in a landslide: Sandra gets six votes, Parvati gets three votes, and Russell gets ''no'' votes. Even better, at the reunion, Jeff tries to explain that backstabbing the jury will make them loathe you. Russell refuses to acknowledge that.
* At the live reunion, Boston Rob – who had just given his own take on how a Rob-Russell alliance would go – lays down the gauntlet to Russell. He challenges him to a ''Survivor'' rematch.\
'''You’d Expect:''' Because he is no longer and will never again be an unknown quantity, Russell would decline the offer, or at least ''wait'' a few seasons, when he’s not quite so fresh in people’s minds (hint: Sandra hadn’t competed for 13 seasons before returning).\
'''Instead:''' He effectively says, brings it on. Production knows ''exactly'' what’s just landed into their laps and proceeds to build a cast make-up tailored precisely to all of Rob’s strong suits and all of Russell’s weak suits.

[[folder:''Nicaragua'']]
* Kelley Bruno and Alina find an idol clue together.\
'''You'd Expect:''' They look for the idol.\
'''Instead:''' They don't.\
'''As A Result:''' Their enemy [=NaOnka=] finds it.

* At La Flor's first tribal council, Shannon plans to take out Brenda.\
'''You'd Expect:''' He tries to get Brenda's allies to flip on her to better ensure success.\
'''Instead:''' He antagonizes Sash, then questions whether Sash is gay.\
'''As A Result:''' He is targeted, his alliance flips on him and he is sent home.

* After a swap, Marty and Jill are in the minority, but Marty has an idol and Jill is immune. The majority alliance decides to force a tie against Marty and Kelley B to ensure that Marty either plays his idol or is vulnerable.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since Marty has not played his idol and is thus vulnerable, they vote Marty out, removing an enemy and his idol from the game.\
'''Instead:''' They vote Kelley B out.\
'''As A Result:''' Marty still has his idol.

* Due to the last tribal council, Marty still has his idol and can save himself with it. Sash then tries to get Marty to give the idol to him in exchange for not being voted off at the next tribal council (something the idol would accomplish anyway).\
'''You'd Expect:''' Marty politely declines Sash's offer, perhaps tries to align with him without giving up the idol, and plays it at the next tribal council.\
'''Instead:''' He gives the idol to Sash, under the condition that Sash gives it back later.\
'''As A Result:''' Sash keeps the idol for himself, strengthening his position (against Marty), and Marty is nearly voted off that night.

* [=NaOnka=] steals food and gives some to Alina. The tribe finds out about this.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Alina clarifies to everyone that she did not partake in the food stealing.\
'''Instead:''' Alina says to everyone that she was complicit in the fool stealing.\
'''As A Result:''' Alina is voted out.

* Holly makes a plan to blindside Brenda and rallies Brenda's alliance members (minus Purple Kelly) in. Chase, who has been loyal to Brenda since the beginning, warns her about it.\
'''You’d Expect:''' Brenda to take the warning with some concern, and maybe try to convince her alliance members to get rid of Holly or [=NaOnka=] for trying to usurp her.\
'''Instead:''' She doesn't take it seriously enough, preferring to lay her trust with her alliance. No guess on how that turns out.

* A recurring issue with Chase's gameplay is ironically their strength in challenges. They promise practically everyone rewards.\
'''You'd Expect''': Chase stop winning reward challenges, or stop making and breaking promises on who he'll take on rewards.\
'''Instead''': They constantly win rewards and bring their alliance members with them to be safer with them.\
'''As A Result''': Chase looks worse to the jury, and the people he snubs (including eventual winner Fabio) look better and more sympathetic.

* It's the final six, Jane feels a bit on the outs in her four-person alliance with Chase, Sash, and Holly. The alliance's immediate target Fabio wins immunity, and he tries to protect his ally, Dan, by convincing Chase that Jane's the bigger threat. Chase immediately takes the idea to Sash and Holly, and the three soon resolve to vote Jane off (forgetting, incidentally, that Fabio suggested it in the first place).\
'''You'd Expect''': That they would blindside Jane. Dan and Fabio want her gone, and Chase and Sash are the ones with Hidden Immunity Idols, so there wouldn't be any real way that she could protect herself if votes were cast her way.\
'''Instead''': The three of them ''tell Jane to her face'' that she's the next to go. Not only does Jane reveal the alliance at Tribal that night, but now Chase and Sash ''have'' to take Holly with them to the Final Three, lest they have a vicious attempt on Jane's part to turn the jury towards Dan or Fabio (the latter of whom ruined that plan by going on a late immunity run, including the Final Immunity Challenge).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:''Redemption Island'']]
* ''Redemption Island'' sees Russell, getting hit ''hard'' with this trope. To elaborate, this is the first season that he's playing alongside people that had the chance to see him in action; they know exactly what he's all about. One of the first things he does is promise his tribe that he'll be playing a different game this time.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Russell actually ''would'' play a different game this time, or at least pretend to do so until the merge when he would likely have the better numbers. At the very least, they wouldn't have been so likely to have their own DarthWiki/WhatAnIdiot entries.\
'''Instead:''' He runs the same play in the same way, from swiping clues to the Hidden Immunity Idol to forming his usual harem (while dismissing anyone who ''isn't'' built like a Laker Girl), to pigging out on the tribe's provisions while they fish.\
'''As a Result:''' Not surprisingly, he's marked as a threat, and his tribe throws a challenge to off him.
* The Ometepe tribe managed to pull this and held an IdiotBall for the ''entire season''. One tribe gets Russell, and they get Boston Rob. Now they've all seen Russell play, and they have also seen Rob play and even ''knew'' who he was.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That they'd realize that he's smart and should get him out ASAP because he's got a ''huge'' target on his back and a lot more experience.\
'''Instead:''' Only Kristina realizes this while everyone else (sans Francesca) seems to be staring at Rob like he's a savior. The Ometepes then vote out Kristina and Francesca and let Rob do all the work for them, letting it progress into the merge when the producers throw one puzzle after another at Rob (the only challenges he gets to compete in, mind you) and are then ''surprised'' that Rob seems to be taking people hated by everyone else over them despite that being the easiest and most obvious way to win ''Survivor''.\
'''Unsurprisingly:''' Rob wins in a landslide.
* Matt gets struck with this HARD at the merge. After going on an impressive duel run, he manages to win his way back into the game. The Ometepes, the tribe that voted him out, are up 6-5.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That since the Ometepes voted him out previously, he wouldn't trust them, and he would try to get in with the minority tribe and get back at his old tribe.\
'''Instead:''' He goes straight to Rob and tells him that he considered blindsiding him, but instead decided to stick with him.\
'''As a Result:''' Rob, not being a total moron, decides to blindside Matt, sending him back to Redemption Island as soon as he returns.
* The final 3 consists of Rob, Phillip and Natalie. The jury, while admitting that Rob did play the best game, are looking for ''any reason'' not to give him the money, considering all the backstabbing he did.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Phillip and Natalie to play any angle possible to make it look like they weren't just Rob's lapdogs and that they played good games that are worthy of a million dollars.\
'''Instead:''' Both of them ''praise Rob'' while talking to the Jury, pretty much crediting him for anything and everything they did during the game.\
'''Unsurprisingly:''' Rob gets everyone but Ralph's vote.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:''South Pacific'']]
* Midway through the game, Christine is making no effort at all to be friendly with Coach, going as far as to call him a "temporary player."\
'''You'd Expect:''' That since she's in a minority alliance with Stacey and needs all the help she can get, she would stop insulting everyone and try to make nice with as many people as possible.\
'''Instead:''' She makes it blatantly clear to the rest of her tribe that she is hunting for idols, and yet makes no effort at all to align herself with anyone besides Stacey. [[note]]having an idol doesn't make a difference if you're in a ''2-6 minority.''[[/note]] She's ''surprised'' that Coach and his alliance voted her out!
* Ozzy, due to his choices regarding Redemption Island. At the final twelve, with one person on Redemption Island, Savaii goes to Tribal Council and is expected to vote someone out to join Christine on RI. Ozzy confides in the tribe that he had a dream that he would get voted out, go to Redemption Island, battle and defeat Christine, and rejoin their tribe making sure that they go into the supposed merge 6-6. This plan is insanely risky in that the merge is merely assumed to be coming up, and Christine is still there, with no telling if the challenge will be one Ozzy will excel at (given how she's even beaten Mikayla, a highly physical player). Furthermore, Christine has been seen giving the finger to her old tribe and leaves no doubt she'd jump to Savaii in a heartbeat if she ever came back. Of important note is that this plan also involves putting trust in and keeping Cochran, who has been brought up as a possible alternate vote at almost every tribal.\
'''You'd Expect:''' The rest of the tribe ignore Ozzy's insane plan and instead vote out Cochran, not taking the risk that he'd flip to Upolu out of paranoia. Then they could swing Christine to their side and use her challenge prowess displayed on Redemption Island to their advantage for the upcoming 6-6 voting tie the entire tribe was anticipating.\
'''Instead:''' They go through with it, keep Cochran, and vote out Ozzy. Ozzy beats Christine in the duel and gets rid of her for good.\
'''As a Result:''' After a tie at the Tribal Council vote, Cochran flips on his high-school-esque tribe and votes out one of their members with Upolu, who have been treating him well since the tribes have been merged (exactly how Christine indicated she would have aided the Savaii). And while he's with his new peeps, the other Savaii are left fighting for their game lives.
* In the final six, Brandon Hantz wins immunity right before the final Redemption Island duel. His buddy Albert is being targeted though, so Brandon considers giving him his immunity.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That he would hold onto it, rather than potentially be voted out with a mere 6 players remaining.\
'''You'd Also Expect:''' That if he goes through with this, Brandon would wait until the tribal council is over to give Albert the necklace, leaving everyone else no time to coordinate voting for Brandon.\
'''Instead:''' Brandon gives it to Albert under the impression that Coach's alliance wouldn't turn on him and that they would have to turn on Sophie instead. He lets everyone know that he is going to do so.\
'''Unsurprisingly:''' Now that everyone cannot vote for Albert, they vote for Brandon.\
'''Even Worse:''' Most post-show interviews have revealed that Brandon was the frontrunner to win out of everyone in the Upolu alliance, so he threw away a potential win.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:''One World'']]
* It is the fourth episode, and the men have won immunity. They are currently one member up and the women are facing Tribal Council, however, there is some conflict between Colton and Bill, another member of his tribe. Colton is so fed up with him that he decides to do something unprecedented- give up immunity and go to Tribal Council willingly.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Colton just keeps immunity and keep the numbers advantage his tribe currently has.\
'''Instead:''' His tribe ends up going to Tribal Council that night and votes out Bill.\
'''What's Worse:''' For a tribe to go to Tribal Council willingly, it has to be a unanimous group decision, and Bill agreed despite knowing he was a target.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:''Philippines'']]
* Episode 1 sees Zane Knight making an alliance with both the women and the men secretly. He intends to vote out Russell due to him being a threat to his power. The rest of the tribe agrees and prepares to vote out Russell.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Zane to not reveal to Malcolm and Russell that he already forged an alliance with the women, and to accept the offer to vote out the latter with the rest of his tribe.\
'''Instead:''' He reveals to Malcolm and Russell that he already formed an alliance with the women, and asks his tribe to vote him out, stating it's part of a strategy. He gets voted out unanimously because he's untrustworthy.
* Later in that season, Jeff Kent tells Carter that they are voting out returning member Jonathan Penner who has an idol and who also believes he is in a three-person alliance with them.\
'''You'd Expect:''' When Penner comes over Carter would ask him about whether or not to vote off Katie or Denise the other two players on the tribe to keep him unsuspecting.\
'''Instead:''' Carter accidentally tells Penner that he and Katie are the targets.\
'''As a Result:''' The blindside fails as Penner's idol is too threatening now that he knows he is a target. Jeff and Carter are forced to vote off Katie, who was much less of a threat than Penner was.

* Penner has been on the bottom of the tribe for a very long time and has nearly been voted out twice already. He does have one out though. After the merged tribe undergoes a power shift, Penner has bonded with Lisa, who offers him a final four deal.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Penner take the deal to finally gain some safety.\
'''Instead:''' He refuses, saying he doesn't want to make that choice just yet.\
'''As A Result:''' Lisa gets another final four deal and Penner is eliminated by it.

* At the final five, Lisa and Skupin are left in a position to either vote out Abi-Maria or Denise (their main target Malcolm had just won individual immunity).\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since Abi-Maria would be a very good goat to go to the end with as her {{Jerkass}} tendencies made a lot of jurors mad at her and also since Denise has an extremely good track record of surviving tribal councils this game, Lisa and Skupin would vote out Denise.\
'''Instead:''' They vote out Abi-Maria at the final five.\
'''As A Result''': When they do go to the end with Denise at the Final Tribal Council, the jury ends up voting Denise to win the game in a landslide. \
'''What's Worse:''' Lisa ''knew'' that keeping Denise was a bad idea, but Skupin dismissed the idea. Even ''Abi-Maria herself'' tried to convince Skupin that voting her out would cost him and Lisa the win, and he ''still'' wouldn't listen.

* At the final four, Skupin wins immunity, and Malcolm seems to be a frontrunner for the win as he has a final three deal with Lisa and Skupin. Denise goes to Malcolm and offers that they vote Lisa to force fire and have the two of them go to the end together.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Malcolm to say yes to that to keep Denise unsuspecting because she was a threat at the end.\
'''Instead:''' He waffles on his answer and Denise realizes that something is up.\
'''As a Result:''' Denise goes to Lisa and tells her about it and since Lisa sees Malcolm as the biggest threat joins Denise to vote him off, Skupin joins them and Malcolm is the last out before Final Tribal Council.

[[folder:''Caramoan'']]
* At the merge vote in Caramoan, the old favorites have an 8-4 majority and plan on splitting the vote 4-4-4. Corinne and Malcolm though want to flip the script and turn on the others and since they don't know this could conceivably get 5 votes s they are allied with 3 of the remaining fans, compared to the split 7 votes of the others which would give them a 5-4-3 plurality.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That they would stay completely quiet about this so that the others would have no idea about this.\
'''Instead:''' Corinne goes to Dawn and tells her about the plan presumably to get a 6th vote for the next round.\
'''The Result:''' Dawn goes to her alliance who put all 7 votes on Corinne, costing her the game.\
'''What's Worse:''' Malcolm thought he had Erik on their side so they would have already had 6 votes.
* Episode 8's reward challenge has the teams harnessed together in the water around an oval track trying to catch each other. When a person gets too tired to continue, they can drop out and hand their 20-pound sandbag to someone else on their team. Phillip, the oldest member of Bikal, is in front and he quickly tires out.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Phillip to drop out of the challenge.\
'''Instead:''' He stays in the challenge, even after Dawn, Cochran, and Julia drop out.\
'''The Result:''' Bikal loses.

[[folder:''Blood vs. Water'']]
* After John's vote out, Brad's alliance has a 4-2 majority and they plan on voting out Ciera. He decides to talk to Ciera and Katie and tell them that he wants to vote off Caleb to make them feel safe.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Brad would tell his alliance and especially Caleb about this especially since Brad just lead a blindside on one of their allies at the previous vote, so it is totally plausible that he could do it again.\
'''Instead:''' Brad does not tell them about this, spooking Caleb who announces at tribal that he plans on voting out Brad and tells Ciera and Katie that they can also vote for him.\
'''The Result:''' The vote goes to a tie between Brad and Ciera and Vytas flips to avoid rocks on the re-vote so Brad is sent to Redemption.
* After Laura Boneham gets voted out for good, Vytas stated the tribe he is in (which includes him, Monica, Tina, and Katie) as well as his brother are going to the final five together.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For nobody to tell somebody that they are #5 in that alliance.\
'''Instead:''' Tina tells Monica Culpepper exactly that. This leads Monica to flip on that alliance and go with the Singles Alliance.\
'''Even Worse:''' Tina turned on Jerri back in season 2 for doing something similar (and less egregious).

* In the first half of Episode 1, David (the formally-dressed president of the Miami Marlins baseball team) is elected as leader by his tribe. Jeff asks him to select whom he thinks is the weakest link on the tribe by first impressions alone.\
'''You'd Expect:''' He'd pick Kass, the older female and most likely the physically weakest. \
'''Instead:''' He chooses Garrett, the only one on the tribe who could take any of the Brawn tribe, while also stating his game strategy blatantly to everyone.\
'''As a Result:''' Garrett gets pissed off, and when the Brains lose the challenge, Garrett seizes the chance to get David eliminated. [[{{Irony}} David is the first person voted out, 4-2]].
* Garrett himself gets struck with this soon after. The tribe loses the next challenge and has to vote again, and since J'Tia lost it for them (and she [[KickTheDog dumped the team's rice into the fire]] because she believed she was next to go), it's obvious who's currently in his sights. Tasha and Kass are hesitant to do so since they want to use her for a goat.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Garrett just lets things run their course and makes the argument at Tribal Council to boot her. Or, at the very least, bring the Hidden Immunity Idol with him to Tribal Council in the event anything unexpected happens.\
'''Instead:''' He hosts an impromptu tribe discussion where he blatantly says J'Tia is the one to go and bans strategy talk for the remainder of the afternoon. At Tribal Council, he openly states that Tasha would be the next to go if they lose the third challenge, and then picks a fight with Kass. Despite having blatantly pissed off 3 out of his 4 tribemates, he still doesn't think to bring his [[GetOutOfJailFreeCard Hidden Immunity Idol]].\
'''Inevitably:''' Garrett winds up being the next to go.\
'''What's Worse:''' In the next episode, Tasha and Kass admit they probably would have voted for J'Tia if Garrett wasn't being such a colossal moron. Meaning if he just kept his mouth shut, he would have stayed in the game.
* In Episode 6 (the merge episode), Sarah sees that she's the swing vote between the two alliances, and is torn between them.\
'''You'd Expect:''' She'd think long and hard about her decision, and at least try to downplay her importance so she isn't seen as a threat.\
'''Instead:''' She pretty much flaunts this status, which rubs Kass up the wrong way. \
'''As a Result:''' Kass decides to take matters into her own hands, and makes a deal with Tony's alliance to take out Sarah, who is blindsided in a 6-5 vote.
* Woo has won the Final Immunity Challenge and gets to vote out the last castaway between Tony and Kass. He promises Kass that he'll vote out Tony.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Woo would keep his promise and vote out Tony, not only taking out the biggest threat left but also bringing himself to the final 2 with someone who has absolutely no friends on the jury.\
'''Instead:''' Woo decides to stay loyal to Tony, his ally from the beginning, and votes out Kass. \
'''As a Result:''' Tony wins in a landslide 8-1 vote as Woo is dubbed as a "lapdog" by the jurors, and even Jeff deems his mistake "one of the worst in ''Survivor'' history".

[[folder:''San Juan del Sur'']]
* Drew Christy in his boot episode decides to throw a challenge to get snakes off of his tribe.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Drew consult the tribe or an alliance about this before doing anything rash, and then go with the group consensus.\
'''Instead:''' He does the following: Refuse to form an alliance, deciding to do this on his own, telling Jaclyn from Coyopa about it, throwing the challenge incredibly obviously, then railroading over everyone he talks to and their suggestions to push the vote against Kelley rather than Julia because he's afraid of her forming an all-female alliance (despite there only being 4 women on this 9-person tribe), and openly lets Kelley know that she is the target.\
'''As a Result:''' Even though Jeremy wants to vote out Keith for a valid reason, and Jon his best friend wants to vote out Julie for a very valid reason, Drew persists so heavily with Kelley that all the guys get mixed up except for Jeremy, and all the girls vote Drew out. So yes, his attempts to prevent an all-female alliance ''[[SelfFulfillingProphecy caused the formation of one]]''. There might be absolutely no aspect of ''Survivor'' that wasn't screwed up by Drew Christy in a single episode.
* Jeremy is on top of the world after taking Josh out. He gives his reward to Jon who saved his butt last night and is sent to exile. Once there, he notices the idol is missing, meaning Jon must have it.\
'''You'd Expect:''' He keeps this information to himself and acts on it when the time comes.\
'''Instead:''' He tells Jon he knows he has an idol.\
'''As a Result:''' Jon is spooked and ''immediately'' has Jeremy assassinated at the upcoming tribal.
* Keith has been let in on a secret plan to eliminate Jon, relying on the main alliance sticking to their plan of splitting the votes.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Keith to keep his head down and stick to the plan.\
'''Instead:''' When drama happens at tribal council, he orders the majority alliance to stick to their plan... the one he shouldn't know about.\
'''You'd Then Expect:''' Jon to realize something is wrong and play his idol.\
'''Instead:''' He thinks nothing of it. Luckily for him, Natalie realizes what's happening and tells him to play it.\
'''As a Result:''' Keith's son Wes is taken out while Keith has to play him to escape elimination.
* Natalie comes up with a cunning plan to assassinate Jon for Jeremy's elimination. All she needs to do is exploit a split vote to eliminate Alec over Keith against Jon's wishes. She does so, confusing everyone. Her cover story for doing this, however, is "I didn't know who to vote for".\
'''You'd Expect:''' Jon realizes something is up with this extremely confusing voting decision, make sure his alliances are somewhat secure, and perhaps play his idol.\
'''Instead:''' They completely buy Natalie's story and carry on, though not without commenting that they can easily beat her in front of the jury now due to her silly mistake.\
'''Bonus Confusion:''' Before Natalie gives her excuse, Jaclyn wonders aloud if Alec ''voted himself off'' despite that not even being possible... or logical.\
'''As a Result:''' Jon is blindsided with the idol in his pocket and Jaclyn is left without an idol against an alliance of 3.

* It's the auction and since Mike just found out there is a coalition in his alliance planning on blindsiding him so he is waiting for an advantage in the game and so are Dan and Carolyn so none of them have bid on anything. But right before the advantage is offered up, Jeff brings out letters from home. He offers the chance at letters from home for everyone for 20$ and then the three of them can draw rocks for the advantage.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Mike would give Jeff the 20$ and draw rocks for the advantage because even though there is a coalition against him, he still has Dan and Sierra, who are not in the coalition and Jenn and Shirin are friendly and could join, giving him a majority. Additionally, two of his allies also have enough money to bid on it, while only one opponent saved enough up for theirs.\
'''Instead:''' He originally does not bid the money to try and guarantee that he would get the advantage.\
'''As a Result:''' Mike receives immediate backlash from the others and tries to regain favor by spending the 20$ as intended but the damage had already been done. His allies now don't trust him because of this shady move.\
'''Bonus Irony''': His ally Dan wins the advantage rather than him, which would have ''helped'' him had he just paid for the letter and not alienated him.\
'''Even Worse:''' After he gets back to camp Mike tries to expose the coalition while everyone else is trying to read their letters from home, cementing Dan and Sierra to join the coalition and guaranteeing that he is the target for the rest of the game.
* It's Episode 13 at the Final 6. Dan still has the extra vote he won during the Auction. His alliance has to turn on one other as the only outsider, Mike, won immunity. His allies, Rodney, Sierra, and Will, plan to target Carolyn.\
'''You'd Expect:''' In fear that Carolyn has a Hidden Immunity Idol and that he's being targeted for the advantage, that he either use the extra vote and vote for Sierra twice forcing at worst, a 2-2 tie if an idol is played which Dan would survive, or just vote normally against Carolyn and try to be inconspicuos about it so that Carolyn doesn't suspect anything.\
'''Instead:''' He uses the extra vote, alerting Carolyn to danger, and puts ''both of his votes'' on Carolyn.\
'''As a Result:''' Carolyn does indeed have a Hidden Immunity Idol and plays it, nullifying all but '''two votes''' that are for Dan, sending him home. Even if Carolyn did not have the idol, this would be a complete waste of the advantage as it accomplishes nothing to vote for her an extra time.

[[folder:''Cambodia - Second Chance'']]
* It's Episode 5, and the new Bayon tribe, consisting of 4 original Bayon members (Monica, Stephen, Kimmi, and Jeremy) and 2 former Ta Keo members (Spencer and Kelly Wiglesworth), is going to Tribal Council for the first time. The 4 Bayon members are all part of an alliance, and have agreed that either Spencer or Wiglesworth will be the first to go, settling on Wiglesworth.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Monica agrees with the group. After all, they have a clear majority and a strong alliance, while Wiglesworth has 2 former Ta Keo members in other tribes, and Spencer has warned them that Wiglesworth was in quite well with both of them.\
'''Instead:''' Monica approaches Kimmi, suggesting they vote out Spencer to give the girls a majority, mentioning the possibility of an all-girls alliance. Ignoring the fact that her current alliance is half male. Kimmi reports Monica's idea to Jeremy and Stephen, and the three blindsides Monica at Tribal Council, sending her home.
* In the very next episode, a tribe swap occurs, sending Savage, Spencer, Kass, Ciera, Wiglesworth, Woo, and Abi-Maria to the new Ta Keo tribe. They lose the Immunity Challenge, and Savage wants to blindside Spencer. He tells his alliance that he wants to stay Bayon strong, and puts up a decoy boot just in case Spencer asks what is going on.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Savage puts up an original Ta Keo, like Wiglesworth or Woo as the decoy.\
'''Instead:''' He puts up Ciera (an original Bayon member) as a decoy boot. \
'''As a Result:''' This pisses Ciera off since it makes her believe she is on the bottom. She rallies Kass and Abi-Maria to turn on him, Kass tells Spencer of his plan, and the four of them blindside Woo, Savage's greatest ally.
* It's Episode 8, and the Orkun tribe is divided, with a 9-person alliance of Jeremy, Tasha, Savage, Keith, Joe, Stephen, Kimmi, Kelly Wiglesworth, and Spencer, while Abi-Maria, Kelley Wentworth, and Ciera (aka the Witches Coven) are in a minority alliance. Discussions of someone having the Hidden Immunity Idol take place, and then Tribal Council happens.\
'''You'd Expect''': In fear that one of the girls may have the Immunity Idol, the bigger alliance split their votes, giving five votes to one of the girls, and four votes for the other. Wentworth would play her idol and be safe, but one of the other girls would get doled out.\
'''Instead''': All of them pile their votes onto Wentworth, who plays her Hidden Immunity Idol. The Coven all vote for Savage and he gets sent to the jury.
* It's Episode 11, and Stephen (a member of the majority alliance) is determined to vote out Joe. Even though three of his allies (Spencer, Tasha, and Keith) flipped and tried to vote him out at the previous Tribal Council, Stephen's alliance still has 6 out of 9 votes left, more than enough to eliminate Joe. There is talk of a Hidden Immunity Idol, although nothing confirmed.\
'''You'd Expect''': With no concrete evidence that Joe has a Hidden Immunity Idol, and knowing that three of his allies tried to vote him off just the previous Tribal Council, Stephen would have all of his alliance members vote for Joe and eliminate him that way.\
'''Instead''': Stephen's alliance splits the votes between Joe and Abi-Maria in case Joe had the idol. Spencer flips again, and thus despite having a numbers advantage and even a Vote Steal advantage (which he used to steal Joe's vote), Stephen is voted out in a 4-3-2 vote.

* It's Episode 2, and Jennifer is the swing vote between sticking with her original alliance of Jason and Scot to vote out Alecia or to team up with Alecia and Cydney to blindside Jason.\
'''You'd Expect''': Jennifer to keep her position of power to herself so nobody suspects her to flip.\
'''Instead:''' She openly announces at Tribal Council that she is the swing vote, which angers Jason and Scot. To backtrack, she denies it and picks a fight with Alecia, pissing her off as well. Jennifer, the original swing vote, ends up being eliminated 3-2.
* At the Final 12 of Kaoh Rong, Aubry is a swing vote between Julia and Peter. She votes Julia and changes her mind.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Aubry would either thoroughly cross out Julia's name or tear up the parchment and ask for a new one.\
'''Instead:''' She only barely crosses out her name making it clear who she was originally voting for.\
'''As A Result:''' Scot, Julia and Jason all don't trust her and that lack of trust follows her for the rest of the game with them not voting for her on the jury.
* It's the final nine, and after Nick has been blindsided, Tai, Jason, and Scot all find themselves at the bottom..\
'''You'd Expect:''' For them to convince everybody to keep them around and not piss anybody off.\
'''Instead:''' All of three go out of their way to sabotage the camp in revenge for what they did.\
'''As a Result:''' While Tai gets away with it due to him being a NiceGuy, it makes everybody else so much against Scot and Jason that it lowers their chances at winning.
* At the final six, Jason is at the bottom with him being the next one to go. He decides to just wait until somebody else comes up to him for a plan, and it turns out Tai wants to vote off Michele that same episode.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For Jason to vote for Michele as well. With Tai having the double vote, there would have been at least three votes for Michele to go if Jason voted for her and he just needs one more Michele vote to survive.\
'''Instead:''' He votes for Joe out of all people. He gets voted out that night.\
'''What's Worse:''' Michele goes on to win the season and the title of SoleSurvivor.\
'''What's Even Dumber:''' He later berates Tai at final tribal for wasting his advantage on trying to get Michele out as "she was never going home", despite himself being one of the reasons Michele survived that vote.

[[folder:''Millennials vs. Gen X'']]
* In the premiere episode of the season, Jeff warns both tribes that a cyclone is coming and they need to build a shelter as soon as possible.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For both tribes to be very focused on building the shelter and not be slacking off on building the shelter. \
'''Instead:''' The Millennials decide to take some time off from building the shelter to goof off, and thus they are not able to build the shelter in time. Needless to say, they ended up having a very bad first night which could have been slightly better if they built the shelter in time and not spent their time goofing off.
* In Episode 3, the Gen-X tribe has to go to Tribal Council, and Jessica asks Paul if there's a possibility of a guys alliance in their six majority.\
'''You'd Expect''': Paul tells Jessica that there isn't one and there will never be.\
'''Instead''': Paul flatly tells her that if there was a male alliance, the women would be on their own.\
'''As a Result:''' The three women of his alliance flip over to the minority alliance, and Paul is voted out 6-3.
* In the following episode, Lucy ends up trying to convince Ken and David to vote out Jessica.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For Lucy to just tell Ken and David to vote for Jessica and nothing else.\
'''Instead:''' She tells them to not talk to anybody else, making both of them feel they are on the bottom now. At Tribal Council, David plays his idol on Jessica, sending Lucy home.\
'''Later On:''' After Ken tells Jessica the plan in which Jessica confronts Lucy about it, Lucy tries to confront Ken about what Ken told Jessica.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Ken tries to deny that and state that Jessica was lying about that.\
'''Instead:''' He publicly tells Lucy that what Jessica said is true and that he is coming after her.
* Speaking of the Millennials, Figgy and Taylor go on to form a showmance of sorts. \
'''You'd Expect:''' To keep that showmance a secret at all costs. After all, having people know you are a power couple together can give you a huge target on your back. \
'''Instead:''' They do not attempt to hide it from the Millennials. Granted, after the tribal swap, they do try to hide it from Ken and Jessica, but since both Figgy and Taylor do a really bad job at hiding it, neither of them are surprised that they are in a showmance together.\
'''As a Result:''' Figgy becomes targeted and Adam flips to get rid of her, leaving Taylor on the outs of the Takali tribe.
** At the last vote before the merge the millennials seemingly have an easy vote off of Bret. But Jay recognizes that Michaela is a big threat.\
'''You'd Expect''': Jay would wait until later in the game for this considering what other millennials on the different swap tribes could do if he does this especially considering that Michaela could be a shield for him.\
'''Instead:''' He blindsides her right there.\
'''As A Result:''' Jay is put in a minority for basically the rest of the game and his allies are voted off shortly after this. Also Hannah the one player not in the plan of course won't work with him anymore.
** After Adam blindsided Figgy, Taylor is left without his girlfriend and should be pretty upset towards Adam. \
'''You'd Expect:''' For Adam to realize that Taylor may never want to work with him again. He also should not tell people any advantages he may have or convince people to not vote out his allies. \
'''Instead:''' He attempts to work with Taylor by revealing that he wants to vote out Will (who is one of Taylor's allies) and tells him of his advantage. This leads to Taylor telling his allies about the former to easily convince them of voting out Adam. And after the attempt to vote out Adam fails, Taylor tells people about Adam's advantage.
* In Episode 9, Taylor goes out of his way to steal three mason jars full of food. \
'''You'd Expect:''' For Taylor to keep that a secret from the rest of the tribe. The last thing he wants to do is let everybody know that he stole the mason jars. \
'''Instead:''' He admits to stealing three mason jars full of food in front of starving people. This results in him getting voted out in that episode.
* In Episode 11, David promises Hannah that he would give her his idol for an impending tie. At Tribal Council, Sunday tells Adam and Hannah that they're voting for Ken, and Adam relays this to David once he shows his idol. \
'''You'd Expect:''' David to ignore Adam and do as originally planned. \
'''Instead:''' His fears overpower him, and he gives his idol to Ken, making him immune. \
'''As a Result:''' A 5-5 tie between Hannah and Zeke occurs in both the original vote and the revote. Since no one would flip, it goes to the infamous rock tiebreaker, resulting in David's ally Jessica being eliminated.
* In Episode 12, Will (who is part of Zeke's alliance but is considering flipping to join the minority alliance of David, Adam, Hannah, and Ken to blindside Zeke) tells Ken that Zeke's alliance is planning to vote out Ken. \
'''You'd Expect:''' Ken to keep his mouth shut and not let anybody know about it. \
'''Instead:''' Ken confronts members of Zeke's alliance about their plans, and outs Will as a snitch in the process. \
'''As a Result:''' This causes Will to nearly stay put in Zeke's alliance. Not only does this move piss off Will big time, but it also results in Ken losing the respect of the rest of the tribe and the jury, and when he makes it to the Final Tribal Council, he's rewarded with ''zero'' votes.
-->'''Adam:''' That's not a test; that's a ''betrayal''!
* At the final six, David creates a fake idol, which Jay finds. \
'''You'd Expect:''' Jay to tell that this idol is a fake.\
'''Instead:''' He buys it hook, line, and sinker. He plays it at Tribal Council and is ''shocked'' when Jeff announces that it's a fake. He is unanimously voted out that night.\
'''In Addition To That:''' Jay had a strong lead in the Immunity Challenge that same episode, which has a puzzle element.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Jay to keep his answer covered as he finishes the challenge.\
'''Instead:''' He leaves his answer uncovered, allowing ''all five'' of his tribemates to see what his answer is, and David ends up overtaking him for immunity.

[[folder:''Game Changers'']]
* It's Episode 4, and the Nuku tribe is planning to vote for Sierra at the Nuku/Mana Tribal Council since Mana is down a person numbers-wise and Nuku doesn't want to run into an idol. However, J.T. is the only original Nuku on the New Nuku tribe and wants to make in-roads. While his plan was for him and his buddy Malcolm to vote Sandra had Nuku gone as one tribe, he instead has the entire Nuku tribe at his disposal. Meanwhile, on Mana, Tai finds an idol, and if played right it frees them to vote out anyone on Nuku, including Sandra, or a physical threat.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For somebody not to tell Brad that they are voting for Sierra, letting them bypass an idol. Or, if you are J.T., simply flip to vote for Sandra or make it known Sandra is the target, or at least not to vote for his friend. \
'''Instead:''' J.T. tells Brad that they are voting for Sierra, which is strike one. However, J.T. never specifies to Brad that Malcolm is the only hope he has of staying in the game, simply saying for them to vote for Sandra. Brad then tells Tai to play his idol on Sierra, causing J.T.'s only ally Malcolm to be eliminated instead.
* In the following episode, J.T. ends up finding the Hidden Immunity Idol.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For him to play it considering that he is at the bottom of his tribe.\
'''Instead:''' He doesn't even bring it with him to Tribal Council. [[TooDumbToLive It ended just as you expect it would.]]
* Jeff Varner's now infamous blunder at Tribal Council in his boot episode. To recap: he immediately begins by revealing at Tribal Council his suspicion that Zeke and Ozzy have a secret alliance that the other players don't know about.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For him to shut up and simply let everyone else discuss what he just said and put Zeke and Ozzy on the defensive.\
'''Instead:''' He goes even further by outing Zeke as transgender not just in front of the tribe, but on ''national television'', turning every single player there, and even Jeff Probst himself, against him. \
'''As a Result:''' Varner ends up becoming only the third player to ever be verbally voted out.
* Zeke's betrayal of Andrea and Cirie. To recap: Zeke stated the reason why he lost ''Millennials vs. Gen X'' is that he was willing to make a big move and he wanted to be in control.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Zeke to have learned his lessons and not betray anyone this time.\
'''Instead:''' Zeke ends up betraying Andrea and Cirie for those exact reasons.\
'''As a Result:''' Zeke finds himself at the bottom of the merged tribe and nobody trusts him after that.
* Early on, Sierra finds the Legacy Advantage, which acts as a Hidden Immunity Idol at the final 13 or final 6 and must be willed to another castaway if she is voted off.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Sierra to keep her advantage a secret so she wouldn't be targeted.\
'''Instead:''' She not only tells Sarah about the advantage but tells her that if she gets voted off, she will give it to Sarah.\
'''As a Result:''' Sarah orchestrates the vote to be on Sierra tonight, and convinces Michaela and Tai to flip by telling them about the advantage. Sierra is voted off that night, and living up to her word; she wills the Legacy Advantage to Sarah.
* At the Final 8 the vote is between Andrea or Brad and Cirie has a crucial choice between them.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Cirie would go for Brad. He's one of the biggest immunity threats, and she is not close to him while Andrea is a huge threat to win that she could get rid of later and who also would happily bring Cirie further unlike Brad.\
'''Instead:''' Cirie chooses to vote off Andrea.\
'''As a Result:''' Sarah using her newfound numbers gets rid of Cirie's other closest ally Michaela at the next vote leading to the 3-3 tie at the F6 that resulted in Cirie's Advantageddon.
* To prove her loyalty, Sarah gives Cirie her Vote Steal advantage.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Cirie not to do anything to keep Sarah loyal.\
'''Instead:''' Cirie tries to play it without looking over the rules.\
'''As a Result:''' Cirie is told by Jeff that she can't use it due to the advantage being non-transferable, Sarah decides to use the advantage to vote out her close friend Michaela, and Cirie loses Sarah's trust.
** Tai has managed to get to the final six without letting on that he's carrying around two Hidden Immunity Idols.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Tai to keep them a secret and reveal them no earlier than the Final 5.\
'''Instead:''' He tells Brad all about them, and Brad has become very irritable this late into the game. Brad then starts demanding that Tai give him an idol as a token of loyalty, and it descends into bullying. Tai finally decides it's better to just dump his idols at the next Tribal Council, which instigates a mass idol/advantage flush when Sarah's Legacy Advantage is due to be used, and Troyzan decides he might as well throw his Idol into the mix, too. Because Tai gave his spare idol to Aubry and Brad has individual immunity, Cirie, the only person without any form of protection, is automatically eliminated.\
'''As a Result:''' ALL forms of immunity get played at the same time, so late into the game that there is ''definitely'' no chance of any forms of hidden immunity resurfacing, and Tai is left defenceless at the endgame. While this means that the game is now cleared of any twists and now plays like the original format (pure competition and strategy [[note]][[Administrivia/TropesAreTools surprisingly a rather fitting classic-style ending for a season based on the big names of the show]][[/note]]), Tai only gets as far as fourth place without his idols as his safety nets.
* Brad wins final immunity, ensuring his spot in the Final Tribal Council, and he has the choice of bringing either Sarah or Tai with him. \
'''You'd Expect:''' He keeps Tai around and gets Tai and Troyzan to vote off Sarah, ensuring he has a bit of a chance of winning.\
'''Instead:''' Brad's anger over Tai clouds his judgment, and he keeps Sarah over Tai. \
'''As a Result:''' Sarah wins with a 7-3-0 vote.\
'''Later:''' After everyone is onstage for the reunion show, Jeff has everyone run through a hypothetical situation in which Brad voted out Sarah instead of Tai, leaving himself, Tai, and Troyzan in the final three, and sending Sarah to the jury along with the other nine. A show of hands reveals that the votes would have been 5 for Tai and 5 for Brad. Jeff then reveals what would happen if that situation ever played out for the actual vote. The person who is NOT involved in the tie, in this case, Troyzan, would join the jury and become the tie-breaker vote. This means that had the real thing played out how the hypothetical did, Brad would have won.

[[folder:''Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers'']]
* '''Everything''' regarding Ryan's situation with Ali after the tribal swap in ''Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers''. To recap, in Episode 5, Ryan wants to vote out Roark.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For him to tell his ally, Ali, about that plan as she will be very betrayed if she was not part of that plan.\
'''Instead:''' He left her out of the plan.\
'''Later On:''' As it turns out, she was ''very pissed'' when they got back to camp as she ended up venting to Ryan about that situation.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For Ryan to allow Ali to vent, and then calm her down afterwards.\
'''Instead:''' He argues with Ali insisting that he never betrayed her. This pretty much causes Ali to lose almost all trust in Ryan.
* Jessica gets a reward and tells her allies.\
'''You'd Expect:''' They wouldn't tell Ben and Lauren who are in the minority.\
'''Instead:''' He tells Lauren.\
''' As a Result:''' Mike and Jessica lose trust in Cole.
* Probably a third idiotic moment for ''Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers'' is the whole Ben vs the 5-alliance. The five want Ben gone and realize that he could be looking for idols.\
'''You'd Expect:''' At least one of the five takes a little more initiative in trying to find an idol before Ben. That way it would at least seal his fate.\
'''Instead:''' They don't. They figure him finding an idol was impossible, but in the next few Tribal Councils, Ben blows up the alliance's plans constantly with idols, and each member of the alliance is sent home. Even jury member Desi had to ask Chrissy how the five could fuck that up during the Final Tribal Council. Chrissy blames it as a flaw in the game, but Ben was waking up very early and pulling "the early bird gets the worm" every time and the others were just snoozing and losing. He won, naturally.
* Devon gets a HUGE moment of his own at the final four. He knows about the final twist in the game caused by Chrissy's final Secret Advantage won in the Final Immunity Challenge. It will allow her to choose who she takes to the final three with her, while the other two duke it out in a fire-making challenge. Chrissy is smart enough to know Ryan has probably no clue how to do that as the resident NonActionGuy, so she entrusts the task to Devon to get rid of Ben. She doesn't tell Ben about the twist because then he would practice his skills at fire-making, giving only Ryan and Devon knowledge about it and Devon a leg up on Ben with the foreknowledge she will choose him to compete instead of having to jump in on the spot.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Devon to diligently practice as long as possible to hone his skills for the task.\
'''Instead:''' The flint back at camp finally breaks after 38 days... and Devon decides it's an omen that he ''doesn't need to practice anymore'' and is better off spending that time calming his mind so he can focus better in the challenge, assuming he's built enough fires in the game to know what he's doing.\
'''As a Result:''' Ben ''thoroughly'' kicks his ass at the challenge, winning before Devon even manages to ignite his kindling. Devon is eliminated and Ben practically straight-shots it to the title of SoleSurvivor.

[[folder:''Ghost Island'']]
* Ironically for a season based around a lot of the [[EpicFail Epic Fails]] in the show's history, this season had a lot of [=WAI=] moments.
* Jacob Derwin spent his first and only episode showing exactly how a nerdy superfan should not play ''Survivor'', and made a series of boneheaded moves that he really should have known not to attempt.
** To start with, he tried to find the Hidden Immunity Idol on the first day. \
'''You'd Expect:''' That Jacob keeps his head down and get to know his tribe, only going to search for the idol during downtime or after he has some allies. \
'''Instead:''' He waits all of about an hour before going off on his own with no excuse while people are still introducing themselves. \
'''As a Result:''' He's on the outs and widely seen as being shady.
** After losing Immunity, Jacob decided to save himself from the vote and try to get an advantage by baiting the opposing team into sending him to Ghost Island. \
'''You'd Expect:''' That Jacob does not reveal his plan after it works. \
'''Instead:''' He immediately brags that he deliberately got himself sent there. \
'''As a Result:''' When his tribe loses Immunity again, Jacob tries to get himself sent a second time. The other tribe doesn't fall for it.
** Then he arrives on Ghost Island and finds a Legacy Advantage (Sierra's misused one from ''Game Changers''), but is forced to will it to the other tribe. He chooses Morgan but decides to make a fake idol for himself before he leaves. \
'''You'd Expect:''' That Jacob gets the rumor mill going by telling one or two people, letting word spread on its own so people are wary of him. \
'''Instead:''' He shows everybody the fake idol immediately after getting back. \
'''As a Result:''' Everyone figures out immediately that he's lying.
** Then, his head is on the chopping block. He is one of the tribe's weak links. However, Stephanie approaches him and flirts with him, and proposes an alliance. \
'''You'd Expect:''' That Jacob, knowing ''Survivor'' is a game of subterfuge, either see through the lie or be cautious about what he tells her before he can verify her trustworthiness. \
'''Instead:''' He falls for the old IHaveBoobsYouMustObey trick, immediately believes her, and spills the beans about the Legacy advantage, declares that his idol is fake, and conspires to turn other players on the dominant alliance, even telling her which players he plans to approach. \
'''As a Result:''' Jacob gets blindsided with his plan utterly falling apart when it turns out Stephanie cannot be trusted.
* In Episode Four, Michael has revealed that he has the idol to his tribe and lied about it protecting not one but two people.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For him to not reveal who he along with his alliance (who is in the minority of his new tribe) will vote for. If people know who they are voting for, they would have not flipped out of the concern that they might be targeted.\
'''Instead:''' Michael tells everybody that his alliance is voting for Bradley. Because of that, nobody ended up flipping and Michael lost his biggest ally in the game.
* At the merge episode, the big selling point was that the war between Chris and Domenick would finally reach a conclusion, and the number of wrong moves that Chris made on his way out the door was staggering, to say the least.
** To start with, he is first approached by Wendell and Domenick to try and put their animosity aside temporarily to pick off the remaining Malolos. \
'''You'd Expect:''' Chris would at least put up the appearance of listening and try to mend fences with his biggest rival to further his life in the game. \
'''Instead:''' He refuses to entertain working with Dom and burns any chance of reconciliation. \
'''As a Result:''' Wendell, who to this point had been willing to consider working with Chris, throws his lot in with Dom.
** Then, in a stroke of luck, he picks a certain buff at the merge feast which grants him the opportunity to go to Ghost Island overnight and find an idol. He does find the idol (J.T.'s unused one from ''Game Changers''), but there's a catch: it's only good for one Tribal Council. However, he does have the option to play a game to increase its strength by one Tribal Council at a time if he puts his vote at stake. \
'''You'd Expect:''' He'd cut his losses after winning the 50/50 on his first go and go back with the idol and vote in hand. \
'''Instead:''' He gets greedy and tries it again. \
'''As a Result:''' He loses his vote at what could be a critical Tribal, and, by winning the first game, gives himself just enough rope to hang himself. But more on that a bit later.
** So, after the Immunity Challenge, Chris decides he needs to try and rally people onto his side. \
'''You'd Expect:''' He'd talk to two or three people, maybe Kellyn and Sebastian, and try to get them to convince others to work with him \
'''Instead:''' He brings everyone ''except'' Dom and Wendell with him to the well to talk about his strategy. \
'''As a Result:''' Donathan immediately sells him out to Dom, further fueling Domenick's paranoia.
** But here's the real masterstroke of stupidity. At Tribal Council, it's made abundantly clear that it's either going to be Chris or it's going to be Domenick. During the vote, Dom even pulls a Penner from ''Philippines'' and says, loud enough for everyone to hear, that he's voting for Chris. And then, just before the votes are read, Dom decides to play his Legacy Advantage, just to be safe. \
'''You'd Expect:''' That Chris, having just seen his biggest rival play an advantage, and having just heard that he's for sure receiving at least one vote, would play his Immunity Idol. You know, the one he can only play at that Tribal or the next one. \
'''Instead:''' He doesn't. \
'''As a Result:''' Chris is voted out 10-2 with an idol in his pocket.
* At the final ten, Michael ended up lying to Kellyn about him having a Hidden Immunity Idol.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For Kellyn to not believe that lie since Michael's back is against the wall, Domenick believes that Michael is lying, and Michael did not even show her the idol.\
'''Instead:''' She believes that lie hook, line, and sinker causing her to misplay her extra vote to cast unnecessary votes against Laurel and have Domenick and Wendell consider voting her out for nearly voting out an ally of theirs. Later, when Sebastian went to Ghost Island, the very advantage Kellyn misuses ended up showing up again on the ''very same season''. When that happens, you ''know'' how big of an idiot you were.
* At the final six: Sebastian, Donathan, and Angela make a plan to blindside Domenick, with Sebastian revealing to the two that he has an Extra Vote to help them.\
'''You'd Expect:''' They keep quiet about this.\
'''Instead:''' For some reason, both Angela and Donathan tell Domenick and Laurel about the plan, ''and'' Sebastian's advantage.\
'''As a Result:''' Come Tribal Council, Domenick tells Sebastian what he learned, uses David's fake idol from ''Millennials vs. Gen X'' as leverage to keep himself safe (it's still a fake, but nobody outside himself knows that), and Sebastian is voted out with an unused advantage.
* This one is not very forgiving. Wendell and Domenick are very huge threats in the game and they are very likely to beat anybody at the Final Tribal Council.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Despite her being in an alliance with both of them, Laurel would attempt to vote them out of the game to not go to the Final Tribal Council with either of them. Even if she has to work with Kellyn (who has voted against Laurel twice beforehand) to do that, she would put aside their differences to do what is best for their game. Or at the very least, convince everybody to vote out Kellyn at the final eight, then work with her other tribemates to vote out either of those two boys the following vote.\
'''Instead:''' She [[NeverLiveItDown couldn't live down those votes Kellyn cast against her]] nor did she attempt to get Kellyn voted out at the final eight. Because of that, she sat next to both of them at the Final Tribal Council despite the very threat levels they may have.\
'''As a Result:''' She receives '''zero''' votes at the Final Tribal Council thanks to the jury perceiving her as a goat who was just following Wendell and Domenick.\
'''What's Worse:''' She even admitted that she could not beat Wendell and Domenick in the final three.

[[folder:''David vs. Goliath'']]
* In Episode 2, the David tribe loses immunity and it's looking like Lyrsa will be voted out due to being perceived as the physically weakest member. Gabby becomes concerned about the lack of communication regarding the vote and approaches Bi and Jessica to discuss matters. \
'''You'd Expect:''' That Bi and Jessica would discuss the vote and reassure her.\
'''Instead:''' They pretty much blow her off as they feel the vote is set in stone and thus don't feel the need to strategize further.\
'''As a Result:''' This alienates Gabby and makes her more paranoid. When Elizabeth and Lyrsa approach her with a plan to blindside Jessica (who is a close ally of tribe leader Carl), Gabby immediately jumps on board and sets the dominos in motion where she brings in Christian, who in turn brings in Nick, and Jessica ends up blindsided in a 5-4 vote.
* Where do we begin with Jeremy's Episode 3?
** Initially, Jeremy gets skittish that people could be starting conversations behind his back.\
'''You'd Expect:''' He'd stay calm, recognize it's part of the game, and try to focus on having or being involved in these discussions. \
'''Instead:''' He calls a tribe-wide meeting saying that they shouldn't be doing that, never mind the fact that he himself continues to do this afterward, to the point where his only ally, Mike, openly wonders if Jeremy is worth going down with.
** Shortly after this, Jeremy feels the pressure is on him to do something, and he happens to know (through underhanded means) that Dan has an idol. \
'''You'd Expect:''' Jeremy would tell maybe one or two people about this. \
'''Instead:''' He tells ''everyone''. \
'''What's Worse:''' He tells everyone that he found it by digging through Dan's jacket, which is a pretty morally questionable move. This only serves to make him look even shadier.
* Angelina gets a huge moment in Episode 7. The Goliaths have all agreed to vote out Elizabeth despite her pushing for the vote to be on Christian. As she gets upset over not getting her way, she bumps into Elizabeth in the woods.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Angelina not to tell Elizabeth that she is going home. \
'''Instead:''' Angelina tells Elizabeth that she is going home. \
'''As a Result:''' Elizabeth tells everybody at Tribal Council about this information. While Elizabeth still gets voted out unanimously, her blow-up succeeded in making Angelina seem incredibly untrustworthy to everyone.
* Carl gets his moment in his boot episode. After he successfully blindsided Dan, he is feeling pretty good in the game.\
'''You'd Expect:''' For him to not tell everyone his plans, [[ImStandingRightHere especially the ones that involve betraying them]].\
'''Instead:''' He got DrunkWithPower (both literally and figuratively) and spills his plans. He tells Kara that he wants to get rid of her ally Alec at the final ten, and tells Christian that Gabby (his closest ally) will be left out of the plan to vote out Alison.\
'''As A Result:''' Christian and Gabby jump ship and they blindside him in a 5-4 vote.

* In episode 3, Kelley, Lauren, and Wardog want to eliminate Wendy, but David and Rick want to blindside Kelley, and they recruit Chris and Wendy to help make their plan a success. David tells Chris not to tell anyone else about the plan.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Chris to listen to David. They currently have a 4-3 majority for the vote, so there's no reason to bring anyone else on board.\
'''Instead:''' Chris tells Wardog about the plan. Wardog ends up campaigning for Chris' elimination due to his untrustworthiness.\
'''As a Result''': David and Rick abandon the plan and join the others in voting Chris out 5-2.
* In the second merge episode, Kelley, Lauren, and Wardog decide to try and flip the game on its head by blindsiding Ron or Eric. David quickly agrees that it's a good idea and joins up with the group. They then try to pull in Rick.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Rick to at least think about the idea. It is a very good gameplay move and could give Rick a better spot in the tribe.\
'''Instead:''' He firmly lets his emotions cloud his mind and point-blank refuses the offer, even when David reveals he is in on it and points out that after getting rid of Kelley, Lauren, and Wardog, he or Rick will be next.\
'''As a Result:''' Rick is now in the minority after the blindside ends up working and has no true allies.
* In Episode 9, tensions are very high among the tribe after Eric's blindside. Everyone goes to Tribal Council, the plan is to blindside either Kelley or David, and Rick tries to make a case for why he and his ally David should stay in the game despite being in the minority.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That one of the majority keep their cool and not respond.\
'''Instead:''' Julia insults Rick, claiming that he's not a part of any of tonight's plans and eggs him on to attempt his own plan when he threatens to.\
'''As a Result:''' This triggers a live tribal, and amongst the chaos, Julie gets extremely upset and threatens to flip against the other Kamas. To appease her, almost everyone settles on voting out Julia instead due to the latter causing so much trouble.
* At the final five Rick is given the other half of Chris's Edge idol, that Chris has to give to someone and then have them give it back for it to have power.\
'''You'd Expect''': For Rick to not give it back. After all Chris is a threat to win and this would expose him. Rick himself also has an idol so if Chris tries to rally people to get him out in revenge he could simply play it.\
'''Instead''': Rick gives it back, which allows Chris safety at the final five.\
'''As a Result''': Chris is present for the Final Immunity Challenge and wins, also beating him at Firemaking to win the season.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:''Island of the Idols'']]
* In the third episode, Vince is at Tribal Council, with an immunity idol he won from his trip to the Island of the Idols. He has stated that, should he feel concerned about his position in the game, he will play it. Towards the end of the Tribal Council, Karishma approaches every other member of their alliance except for Vince, whispering in their ears.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Vince to play his idol. The idol is only good for the next two tribal councils, making it unlikely that he'll need it later, and being left out of any in-alliance conversation is a sign that you should be concerned, let alone at Tribal Council.\
'''Instead:''' Perhaps learning his lesson of "keeping cool under pressure" a little too well, Vince does not play his idol.\
'''As a Result:''' Vince is blindsided 5-3-1, and goes home with an idol in his pocket.
* In Episode 10, they hold a Double Tribal Council in a similar vein to ''Ghost Island'' where the merge contestants are temporarily split into two "tribes" in which each "tribe" votes out one member each, and there is an individual immunity winner for each "tribe". Also, the person who lasts the longest in the immunity challenge gets to earn a reward for their temporary tribe. Noura ended up being the individual immunity winner for the temporarily purple tribe, but when she won, there was still a couple of members from the temporarily orange tribe still competing in the immunity challenge. \
'''You'd Expect:''' For Noura to keep this in mind, and still participate in the immunity challenge to possibly win a reward.\
'''Instead:''' The excitement of her winning immunity got the best of her as she immediately drop-out of the challenge to celebrate her victory; costing her temporarily tribe to lose a reward.
* In the same episode, Missy decides that the four former Lairo women should vote out Tommy, and pulls Karishma aside to discuss a plan for her to act like she's the one going home\
'''You'd Expect:''' She tells her in a calm way and as an equal\
'''Instead:''' Missy, treating Karishma like an expendable pawn, does it condescendingly and almost bullies her into doing the plan. However, Karishma has long since had it with Missy's attitude and walks away.\
'''You'd Then Expect:''' Missy to take time and calm down, realize that she should not talk that way to an ally, and apologize.\
'''Instead:''' She does not. While she tries to apologize to Karishma, it's all hollow wording.\
'''As a Result:''' Karishma and Elaine agree that they had enough of Missy's attitude, and join Tommy in voting her off 3-2.
* In the first episode after the merge, Dan is given a serious warning about his inappropriate touching and generally off-putting behavior.\
'''You'd Expect''': Him to take the warning seriously.\
'''Instead''': He doesn't stop, and only a few episodes later, he gets handsy with someone who ''isn't a contestant'' (implied to be a crew member).\
'''The Result''': He is unceremoniously ejected from the game, and is also denied a spot on the jury.
* Noura has won the final immunity challenge and gets to decide who makes fire. Knowing that Lauren has the best odds of beating her, she rightly chooses her to be the one who makes fire.\
'''You'd Expect''': That Noura not beat around the bush, be respectful, and allow Lauren a chance to emotionally recover after the revelation that she has to fight for her spot in the finale.\
'''Instead''': She takes forever getting around to explaining her choice, and then dares to try to mend fences with Lauren, who wants to be alone so she can practice, and even jokes about taking away the machete to sabotage her practice attempts.\
'''The Result''': Sending Lauren out this way poisons the jury pool against her, seeing as Lauren most likely told them about what she had done, and Noura gets no votes whatsoever.
* Dean has to convince a jury that his decision to start playing hard around the final 8 was worthy of winning a million dollars. That job itself proves remarkably easy, as Dean was able to get the jury practically eating out of his hands. \
'''You'd Expect''': Dean would either own his game or make sure to keep track of any lie he tells so he can keep his story straight.\
'''Instead''': He lies earlier in the tribal about not making any final three deals with anyone, and then, in the spur of the moment, admits he had such a deal with Elaine and Elizabeth later on, and his spell over the jury is all but completely broken.\
'''The Result''': Dean only gets two votes to win.\

[[folder:''Winners at War'']]
* In the first episode, Rob, Parvati, Danni, and Ethan all formed an old-school alliance. \
'''You'd Expect''': For the four of them to be quiet about it, and not tell a single soul about it.\
'''Instead''': In Episode 2, Danni got extremely paranoid, and she told Ben about the alliance in front of Ethan.\
'''The Result''': It made her look extremely untrustworthy, and she was voted out unanimously because of that.
* Adam had been targeting Parvati from the start and decided in episode 3 to take her out. \
'''You'd Expect''': Since he has Ben and Denise on his side, he would get Jeremy and Michele, the people on the bottom, to join him in his endeavour. \
'''Instead''': He gets greedy and tells Ethan, then Rob to stay on their good side after the vote. His allies decide he's untrustworthy and he ends up within one vote of being eliminated that night. Even worse, he cast the sole vote for Parvati.
* In episode 5, the tribes have been divvied up into groups of 5. The new Yara tribe loses immunity, featuring Sophia and Sarah from one tribe, and Rob, Adam, and Ben from the other.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since Rob in no way has the numbers to split the votes even if he has Adam and Ben's votes, and since Rob has been swapped with 2 members of an opposing alliance (Adam and Ben), he swiftly aligns with the girls to save his skin until the merge.\
'''Or at least:''' He does not do anything openly to bring a target down on his head, should an idol get played and he is the minority group's target.\
'''Instead:''' He arrogantly assumes nobody will flip on him, and enacts a more annoying version of the buddy system, removing everyone's ability to plan in secret and pretty much ensuring that he will at least get 2 votes.\
'''You'd then expect:''' If he's going to do this, he enacts it fast, before anyone has a chance to plan his ouster.\
'''Instead:''' He waits until after the challenge, pulling a [[Characters/SurvivorCagayan Garrett]] on everyone. His ouster was planned by the tribe before they even lost.\
'''As A Result:''' Despite one of his opponents (Adam) hoping to keep Rob in the game with a little scheming, Rob's buddy system has stopped everyone from doing anything to save him, as Rob has essentially frozen his tribe in a position where he's next to go. Unsurprisingly he is voted out '''unanimously''' that night.
* On Episode 6, Dakal has to go to Tribal Council, and Sandra decides to will her hidden immunity idol to Denise in exchange for her two fire tokens, one now and one after tribal.\
'''You'd Expect''': Sandra to ask for both tokens then when they make the trade, after all because if Denise pulls a fast one she would only have to give up one token and if Denise doesn't do it then Sandra can recognize she made an error.\
'''Instead''': She takes the deal and gives Denise her idol for a fire token.\
'''You'd Also Expect:''' Sandra to not suggest Jeremy, who Denise swapped with and who she is in theory closest to as who Denise should vote for. It would openly show that Sandra is still in with Tony and Sarah and that Denise would be on the bottom of the group if Jeremy goes.\
'''Instead''': Sandra does suggest Jeremy as who Denise should vote for.\
'''The Result''': Denise does play her idol, and since Sandra has been shady she votes for Sandra with the 4 votes for Denise being nullified.
* Denise is on the outs of her tribe and everyone wants her gone except Sandra, who offers her an idol for two fire tokens.\
'''You'd Expect''': She take Sandra's deal since Sandra seems to be trying to save her in-game life, and head to the end, working with her along the way.\
'''Instead''': She uses ''two idols'' to take ''Sandra'' out.\
'''As A Result''': Luckily the tribes are merged before she can to go tribal with a tribe that wanted her out and with no protection, but with no true allies and no idols, Denise is easily taken out at the final 6.
* Kim is trying to lead a coup against Tony in hopes of removing him (and Sarah) from power. She gets almost everyone at camp on board.\
'''You'd Expect''': No one to tell Tony about this plan.\
'''Instead''': Both Nick ''and'' Ben tell Tony about said plan.\
'''Result''': Kim is sent to the Edge and Tony stays in power.
* In the finale, Tony correctly deduces Natalie has an idol and confides in Sarah and Ben to help him flush it out and eliminate Denise.\
'''You'd Expect:''' They would go along with the plan.\
'''Instead:''' Both of them insist there's no possible way she has an idol despite Tony pointing out Chris had one when he returned in season 38.\
'''Result:''' Denise does go home but it comes at the cost of Ben's and Tony's idols and Sarah being saved after getting lucky.
* Sarah is the swing vote at the Final 5 between voting out Ben or Michele, and wants to position herself the best.\
'''You'd Expect''': To vote out Michele since Ben is a close ally who could beat a big threat in the Firemaking challenge for her while not being a threat to win himself.\
'''Instead''': She votes off Ben instead.\
'''Result''': Natalie wins Final Immunity and since she is not close to Sarah doesn't pick her like Ben would most likely have and she loses the game.
* Later on, Natalie decides she wants to take Tony out due to the huge threat he poses.\
'''You'd Expect:''' If she felt putting her neck on the line was too risky, she would pick Michele who was doing an excellent job making fire to the point Tony was afraid to go against her.\
'''Instead:''' She picks Sarah to go up against Tony thinking she would get votes for dismantling the alliance.\
'''Result:''' Tony manages to barely edge out Sarah and make it to the final 3 and win with 12 jury votes.

* After losing the first immunity challenge, Brad wants to get rid of Sara or Shan to keep the tribe strong.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Brad simply doesn't do what he does next.\
'''Instead:''' [[ImStandingRightHere He says that he wants them out right in front of them.]]\
'''As a Result:''' Brad's name gets on the chopping block as Sara tries to target him. While Brad manages to avoid being voted out in the first episode, he earns the ire of Shan, who eliminates him further down the line.
* In Episode 5, Genie ended up finding the Beware Advantage which contains a hidden immunity idol.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since Shan and Ricard had previously voted together to take out her ally Brad, and this is a three-person tribe, Genie keep this information to herself to keep herself safe for another round.\
'''Instead:''' She immediately wastes no time telling Ricard and Shan about it.\
'''As a Result:''' The three make a "pact" for them not to open the beware advantage which Ricard and Shan quickly break behind Genie's back; leaving Genie with no idol to protect herself, and causing her to be swiftly eliminated afterwards.
* At the final eight, Shan, Liana, Danny, and Deshawn have ruled this game with an iron fist. If they all make it to the next tribal council they're home free. Ricard however, points out that Shan will likely win in that scenario and proposes taking her out text instead.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Deshawn and Danny take Ricard up on his offer at the next tribal when they have the numbers.\
'''Instead:''' They take Shan out, putting their alliance down 3-4 while expecting Ricard to simply be next.\
'''As a Result:''' Now that Shan's alliance is down in numbers, Liana and Danny get taken out by everyone else, while Deshawn loses a heap of respect and ultimately the game.
* At the final four, Xander wins immunity and has to send two people to make fire. Both Deshawn and Heather tell him that if he takes Erika to the end, she will win the game hands down.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since half of the Final Four acknowledges Erika as the biggest jury threat, Xander would send her to make fire in hopes she won't be there at the final tribal council.\
'''Instead:''' He ends up taking her to the final three with him.\
'''Even Worse:''' He makes comments about how he thinks that the jury doesn't think that Erika is a threat and that is why he is taking her to the Final 3 to everyone. Even if he thinks this, he should not be speaking for the jury.\
'''As a Result:''' Erika ends up winning while Xander becomes a zero vote finalist.

'''Instead:''' He fails to disclose it until right before he begins playing.\
'''As A Result:''' Jackson is pulled from the game in the first episode.
* Chanelle is offered the chance to risk her vote or keep it.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since her ally Mike lost his vote too and she told the other person risking the vote she could not lose her vote under any circumstance, she wouldn't take the chance so they can get rid of the dead-weight in their tribe, Lydia.\
'''Instead:''' She takes her chances and loses her next vote.\
'''As A Result:''' Daniel chickens out of drawing rocks when the votes tie forcing Jenny to go home.
* The vote becomes deadlocked 1-1 against Jenny and Lydia.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Daniel not immediately give up his leverage or make some pitch for Jenny. This would not be difficult at all, considering Jenny had proven herself as being great at puzzles and good at the physical tasks while Lydia [[TheLoad had already sat out two of the first three immunity challenges and didn’t prove to be an asset to the tribe in any significant way.]]\
'''Or At Least:''' Even acknowledging that the probabilities of rocks are loaded in Hai's favor, not burn his alliance with Mike and Chanelle.\
'''Instead:''' He tries to play off voting her '''twice''' as a misunderstanding and begs Hai to not go rocks and takes out Jenny to avoid that.\
'''As A Result:''' Daniel is now hated by both his alliances and they are outnumbered by people who aren't good in challenges 2-3; Daniel then proceeds to be the next to go from his tribe.
* At the double Tribal, Jonathan wants to blindside Drea in order flush out her idol and comes up with the idea to use a decoy vote to make her comfortable.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Jonathan to use Tori as the decoy. She's been on the bottom and Drea wants her gone anyways, so it wouldn't be hard to convince Drea she's the vote.\
'''Instead:''' He uses Maryanne, who has all of his alliance's advantages, as the decoy. Even when Lindsay points out that if Drea plays her idol, Maryanne goes home and they lose everything, Jonathan remains convinced he's right and doesn't switch to Tori.\
'''As A Result:''' When Tribal gets heated, both Drea and Maryanne end up playing their idols and Tori goes home, meaning that Jonathan lost a powerful advantage. In addition, both Lindsay and Maryanne lose a lot of faith in him and openly wonder if he is worth going to the end with.
* Lindsay has full power of an amulet, which is basically an idol, that is good till the final 6.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since she has immunity, she'd use it to save Omar to keep him as a shield since he's not very good in challenges and a huge threat.\
'''Instead:''' She doesn't play it.\
'''As A Result:''' Omar goes home, Lindsay loses her biggest ally in the game, and she's next.

'''You'd Expect:''' Them to not tell anyone else they found the key and either not use it or open it in secret. That way, they can use the resulting paranoia to their advantage.\
'''Instead:''' Brandon calls the rest of the tribe to tell them they found it.\
'''As A Result:''' When the object in the bag turns out to not only be an idol, but also a ''fake one'', Brandon becomes the target and ends up forced to use the idol at the first tribal, which sends Maddy home and leaves Brandon on the outs.
* Brandon, Carolyn and Danny are sent on a journey together, which turns out to be a large feast intended for them to get to know each other.\
'''You'd Expect:''' The three of them to take advantage of this and bond with both of the other two people they were sent with. Or at the very least, try to include everyone and not insult them.\
'''Instead:''' Brandon and Danny almost exclusively plan with each other, excluding Carolyn and only include her when Danny mentions he doesn't think she's a threat because she's not the best at challenges.\
'''As A Result:''' Naturally, Carolyn is utterly pissed off by how little the two men think of her and wastes no time in poisoning the waters against them at the merge and later helping to mastermind both of their eliminations.
* A new twist: The tribe is split into two groups; the winner from both groups gets immunity; and whoever wins the challenge between the two gets immunity for their group, which cannot vote at Tribal Council. Frannie already wins and toughs it out to try to win for her group.\
'''You'd Expect:''' She would throw the challenge after winning to save her boyfriend and closest ally, Matt. Since her competition has four other players remaining, including [[TheBigGuy Brandon]], it wouldn't be a hard sell to claim she just gassed out.\
'''Instead:''' She decides to tough it out, winning the challenge, and Matt gets sent home.
* At the final 6, Heidi has an idol, and Lauren wins immunity.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Since they have the numbers to deadlock a tie, they would do so against the Tika three and hope to get one out on either the revote or via the rock draw if it comes to that.\

* At the merge, the plan is to put votes on Kaleb for being a huge strategic and physical threat.\
'''You'd Expect:''' With the threat of the Shot in the Dark or a possible idol, everyone to realize they have to split the vote and go for the other popular target-J.\
'''Or:''' J, knowing she was being targeted, to throw a hinky vote on another player (like Emily) "just in case" Kaleb successfully plays a Shot in the Dark to prevent a null vote doomed to send her home on a revote.\
'''Instead:''' ''Everyone'' who can vote, (as both Austin and Kaleb don't vote), including J, pile their votes on Kaleb.\
'''As A Result:''' Kaleb draws the Safe scroll and negates a record breaking eleven votes, forcing a revote that ultimately sends J home 10-1 (with J voting Emily).
* Bruce, knowing he's on the outs and will be the target if he loses immunity, decides to come up with a lie that he gave his idol to Kellie when she was voted out to convince the other players he's vulnerable. He wants to tell someone this lie so that it's spread around camp.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Bruce to tell someone that he knows can at the very least tolerate him or be willing to keep him in the game.\
'''Instead:''' He tells Katurah, a person who he knows loathes him. However, she seems to buy into the lie.\
'''You'd Then Expect:''' Bruce to not admit he's lying to her. Again, she hates him and will jump on any chance to send him home.\
'''Instead:''' He tells her it was a lie that he wants to spread around and asks her to do so for him.\
'''As A Result:''' Katurah, on the reward, rats him out to Emily, Dee and Julie, who tell the men as well, ruining any damage Bruce and Jake (who Bruce not only told, but ''didn't'' admit to lying to) did. Additionally, using this info, Emily is able to sucker Bruce into not playing his idol, sending him home with an idol in his pocket.
* The series of events and mistakes leading to Emily's elimination are threefold. To wit:
** Emily has successfully manipulated Bruce into not playing his idol when everyone is voting against him. On its face, this is a good move.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Emily keep this information close to her chest. If this information gets out, Emily looks like a much bigger strategic and social threat.\
'''Instead:''' She blabs about her role in the elimination pretty much immediately to the whole tribe.\
'''As A Result:''' Dee and Julie both realize that Emily is a much bigger threat than they previously believed and immediately begin targeting her.
** Drew has decided to organize a blindside against Julie, since she is a jury threat and will almost certainly win upon making it to Final Three. He has brought in Jake, Katurah, Emily, and Austin for this move. However, Austin worries that the move would damage his relationship with Dee.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Austin, realizing that he has to make a choice one way or the other, and can't maintain a working relationship with both Drew and Dee any further, would either side with Drew and hide the information, going along with the blindside, or expose the blindside to Dee and work with her and Julie to idol out one of Drew's co-conspirators.\
'''Instead:''' He tries to have it both ways, telling Dee, but also telling her he intends to help Drew vote out Julie, in the hopes that Dee will keep the information secret.\
'''As A Result:''' Dee tells Julie and Julie idols out Emily, one of his closest allies, and putting a massive rupture in his trust with Julie and Drew.\
'''Even Worse:''' Austin fails to put together that Dee told Julie and continues to trust her. When Dee learns that Jake is planning a blindside against Drew, she finds herself in the exact same position as Austin was, and chooses to keep quiet, and Drew goes home.
** Drew leans that Austin has told Dee about the plan to take out Julie. Knowing that Julie is Dee's closest ally, it should be obvious to him that Dee will have told Julie, especially since Julie tried to pull Emily and Jake into a blindside against Austin.\
'''You'd Expect:''' That Drew, knowing Julie both knows about her blindside and still has Austin's idol, would either pivot the vote to Dee, or split his and Emily's votes onto Dee in case of an idol play.\
'''Instead:''' Drew does nothing. He just hopes Julie doesn't play her idol.\
'''As A Result:''' Emily, one of his closest allies, gets idoled out, and Julie and Dee join with Jake and Katurah to blindside him as retaliation at the next vote.

* David Jelinsky put in one of the most pathetic performances in the history of ''Survivor'' and is pretty much a textbook example of how not to play the game, with several mistakes throughout the episode.
** The first mistake comes after Yanu loses the Marooning challenge and gets stuck doing the "Sweat" task. To wit, he and fellow tribe member Q volunteer to complete it. The task entails them having to fill two large urns using buckets full of holes. About an hour and a half in and he's already getting worn out.\
'''You'd Expect:''' With so much time clearly left in the hourglass, he'd suck it up and keep going, and have more faith in Q to assist him.\
'''Instead:''' In spite of Q pleading with him not to, Jelinsky smashes the hourglass, giving up the challenge and denying his tribe their supplies until after the first challenge.\
'''The Result:''' Jelinsky takes all the blame for potentially costing the tribe their supplies, putting a target on his back.
** Jelinsky's second mistake comes after he goes on a Journey with Maria and Tevin. The Journey tasks the players to each pick a card. One card has a skull, one has a torch and one has a vote on it. The player who gets the torch card, in this case Maria, has to try and guess who has the vote card. If she's right, then both her and the player with the vote card keep their votes and gain extra ones while the player with the skull loses their next vote. If she's wrong, then the result is flipped. Jelinsky gets the skull.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Him to bluff and fight as hard as he can. A vote is a huge deal in the game and, as the past new era seasons have shown, not having a vote can royally screw you and your allies over.\
'''Instead:''' After barely any pushing from Maria, Jelinsky folds, giving up his vote.\
'''Even Worse:''' Upon returning to camp, he publicly admits this, including that Maria and Tevin get extra votes, and attempts to claim that this will help them make inroads with the other tribes.\
'''The Result:''' The rest of the tribe becomes even more wary of him, pointing out that giving up his vote to give Tevin and Maria extra ones only helps him and not the rest of his tribe.
** Come challenge time, Jelinsky ends up on the puzzle with Jess.\
'''You'd Now Expect:''' Knowing that he doesn't have a vote and now has a reputation as a quitter with the tribe, Jelinsky to put all his effort into the puzzle.\
'''Instead:''' Jelinsky barely even tries, only "helping" by stacking the pieces and then handing a piece to Jess to put in the puzzle.\
'''Predictably:''' Yanu loses, which will force Jelinsky to face his first tribal with no vote.
** Amazingly, Jelinsky's fate isn't sealed once they arrive at tribal, as some of his tribemates are wary of keeping Jess due to being hard to read and for seemingly being weak.\
'''You'd NOW Expect:''' Jelinsky to play any angle possible to make himself look better than Jess, such as pointing out her scatterbrained nature. Or at the very least, own his own failings and try to spin them in a positive light.\
'''Instead:''' Jelinsky pulls the NeverMyFault card and tries to claim that his failings were everyone's fault.\
'''To No One's Surprise:''' Jelinsky becomes a unanimous first boot.
* Bhanu has been warned by possible ally Q, who wants to use him and Tiffany to take out Kenzie, who's a dangerous social threat, that he needs to watch what he shares with other people. Later one, he goes on a journey with Liz and Ben, who ask him what life at his tribe is like.\
'''You'd Expect:''' Bhanu to either give a non answer or lie. He's been warned about sharing things that could put a target on an ally's back.\
'''Instead:''' Bhanu decides that HonestyIsTheBestPolicy and tells Liz and Ben everything, including that Tiffany and Q are allies and Kenzie is a dangerous social threat.\
'''The Result:''' Bhanu not realizing how dangerous that could be and that he just put massive targets on all three of his tribemates causes Q to decide Bhanu is too dangerous to keep around and forgo any attempts at keeping him in the game, leading to Bhanu getting sent home in episode 4.
