A light-hearted re-telling of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story by Marika Kapogeorgakis, it follows the story of Dr. Henry Jekyll, a cowardly but well-meaning scientist focused on the betterment of humanity. After a string of bad luck, Dr. Jekyll drinks his Hyde Formula designed to get rid of a person's vices. Instead it gives him an alter-ego, Edward Hyde, a wild, flirtatious and mischievous troll. As they learn to live with each other, they begin to realise more and more that governor Carew is willing to go against the law as well as any ethical boundary for wealth and that the entire Board of Governors is no better. In order to expose their dirty and underhanded ways, Jekyll and Hyde will have to learn to put their heads together without butting them while also doing their best to not expose their secret.

!!''MK's The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde'' provides examples of:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:A]]
* AdaptationalHeroism: Jekyll does not use the formula for selfish reason like most adaptations, Hyde on other hand is only a theiving AntiHero and a JerkWithAHeartOfGold in contrast to his original counterpart being a full on villain and a murderer.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Danvers Carew lacks a villainous spine and is a beloved figure, in contrast to the version here and Dr. Lanyon is a false friend to Jekyll [[spoiler:and a murderer who framed an innocent man for his crimes]] unlike the original source.
* AffablyEvil: Sir Danvers Carew acts sweet and cheerful, but he is in fact just as corrupt as the other governors and loves money more than people.
** Dr. Uz is a cheerful, good-humored mad scientist with stretchy powers and zero ethics.
* AlchemyIsMagic: The very theme of volume 2 is alchemy.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Subverted. Lucy doesn't want to have anything to do with Hyde romantically because he is a player and doesn't take commitment seriously.
* AlphaBitch: Nellie Carew and at times, Emma shows signs of being one.
* AlternateUniverse: The story takes place in London, England during the Victorian age, but there subtle differences like how technology is slightly more advanced, and things like magic and the presence of fictional races is a normal thing.
* AlwaysSecondBest: Subverted. Jekyll is just as important in this story as Hyde and his genius has proven to be a valuable asset to the both of them.
* AndIMustScream: [[spoiler: When Lanyon realises that no one including his alter ego can see or hear him, he falls to his knees screams in horror while remaining unheard.]]
%%* AntiHero: Edward Hyde.
* ArchEnemy: Governor Carew and Mr. Hyde are this to a tee.
* ArtEvolution: From Act 1 to the current, the art is starting to get cleaned up, lines are smoother and details are coming into play.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:B]]
%%* BadassCape: Mr. Hyde
* BeastAndBeauty: Hyde and Lucy [[spoiler:though it only becomes official in Act 7 when Hyde is ready to commit at take the relationship seriously]].
* BerserkButton: Mr. Hyde when you hurt anyone he cares about and Utterson when he has had enough of Carew's antics.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Utterson is the most level headed of all the characters, but when he does get mad, he gets MAD.
* BigBad: The Board of Governors is corrupt and has no qualms about putting ethics aside to make money. Carew is one of the worst of the bunch.
* BigBrotherMentor: Jekyll to Hyde especially since Jekyll is better at using his head and keeping calm.
* BigEntrance: Hyde makes one when he crashes Nellie's birthday ball.
* TheBigGuy: Hyde is the tallest and biggest of all the characters so far.
* BlackCloak: The twisted alchemist working for the board is hooded and unnamed.
* BlackKnight: Mr. Hyde takes up rebelling and defying the Board of Governors especially Carew.
* BodyHorror: When Jekyll transforms into Hyde for the first time, it's [[http://mksjekyllandhyde.thecomicseries.com/comics/33 kind of dark]]. Also, when Jekyll doesn't get his dosage of formula on time, he gets some kind of [[http://mksjekyllandhyde.thecomicseries.com/comics/87/ purple bruising on his chest]].
* BornUnlucky: Jekyll seems to be this way namely in the first act though some of his suffering is self inflicted due to being a pushover.
* BrokenBird: Poole wasn't always a lower class barman. [[spoiler:He used to be a high ranking butler for the Carews and loved them like family, but after catching Nellie attempting to sneak out of the house, she framed him for stealing as an act of spite. Her father then bribed the judge to call Poole guilty to protect their family's reputation.]]
[[/folder]]
[[folder:C]]
* CigarChomper: Hyde is seen with one in his teeth when relaxing or at the bar.
* ClearTheirName: Jekyll and Utterson work together to prove Poole is innocent.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: Every character has their own designated speech bubble colour which is usually the dominant colour they wear. It also tends to be symbolic for some characters.
* CommitmentIssues: Lucy picks up that Hyde has them right off the bat and rejects him flat out as long as he does have them.
* CoolOldGuy: Richard Cornelius Poole.
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: In response to Carew picking unclaimed cats off the streets to be used in place of lab rats, Hyde fills Carew's entire estate with cats which ruins his property.
* CoolUncle: Will sees Jekyll as this.
* CuteBruiser: Emily Jekyll is pretty much this in her defiant personality and it is hinted that she is athletic hence being the star player on the girl's badminton team for her strong arm.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:D]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: The very reason Lucy is so unfriendly. [[spoiler:No one would adopt her because being of mixed ethnicity made people uncomfortable as interracial relationships even just by colour are a taboo in most societies. She wound up as a showgirl in America and when the burlesque came to England, she wound up living on the streets and resorted to selling her body to live before Poole met her.]]
* DeliberatelyCuteChild: Willard "Will" Jekyll.
* DidNotGettheGirl: Jekyll and Emma stay broken up for good. [[spoiler:Jekyll rejects Emma flatly after she attempts to reconcile with him after Lanyon goes missing.]]
* DisposableFiance: Jekyll to his ex Emma.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:E to F]]
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Despite everything, Carew really does love his daughter Nellie.
* EvilAllAlong: Dr. Lanyon was not as good a friend as Jekyll thought. [[spoiler:He was the man Emma was cheating with and his hair removal cream was mercury based which caused several people to get poisoned. It turns out that he pretended to not know that he was picked for the university position and seduced Emma on purpose to use as fake motivation to falsely incriminate Jekyll of only accusing Lanyon of having mercury in his cream as an act of revenge.]]
* FanDisservice: Jekyll may have great hair and an endearing personality, but his abnormally thin body is a bit creepy.
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler: In an attempt to avoid getting caught or beaten up by Hyde, Lanyon drank the Hyde formula, but only realised afterwards that it makes your alternate troll self into a real person and gives it control. In his case, the control is permanent as his alter ego cannot see or hear him meaning Lanyon will live out his life trapped in his mirror world.]]
* MrFanservice: Hyde has quite a few shirtless scenes and his arms are constantly exposed.
* MsFanservice: Lucy Harris though with class.
* FlashbackCut: Poole has one while telling Hyde about his past.
* FriendlyEnemy: Carew actually considers Jekyll and Utterson as his friends or rather, he considers anyone as his friend as long as they can be used to his advantage.
* FriendshipMoment: Hyde has plenty with Poole and when both Jekyll and Hyde hit rock bottom, they give each other advice on how to address their problems.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:G]]
* GentlemanThief: Hyde is a thief and vagabond, but he does stand up for the little guy.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: Lucy Harris is very feminine and her symbolic colour is pink, but she is fearless and no nonsense with a sharp tongue.
* GoodGuyBar: Poole's bar The Old Shoe which is where Hyde goes to enjoy his bourbon, flirt with Lucy or gamble after a night of mischief. [[spoiler: Utterson even goes there to keep in touch with Poole since they're friends from way back.]]
* GoneHorriblyRight: One can argue that Hyde coming to be was a happy accident for Jekyll and London.
* GoneHorriblyWrong: The Hyde Formula was supposed to remove your vices chemically, but instead, it transfers them into another alter ego. In Jekyll's case, it created Mr. Hyde. [[spoiler: Lanyon mistook the transformation as Jekyll simply turning into a troll so he took the formula in a desperate move to be able to fight Hyde. Instead, the outcome was of his alter ego Albert Ode who is as good as Lanyon is evil taking over his body permanently.]]
* GoodColorsEvilColors: The colours designated to each character are symbolic and can be a reference to their moral alignment.
* GoodIsNotNice: Hyde may have good in him, but he has issues with getting too close to people, he can be very selfish and when he doesn't get his way, he can be very mean as seen in Act 6.
* GreyAndGrayMorality: The whole theme of the comic is being opposites, but not necessarily one person being good and the other bad. There are different kinds of good and bad people in the comic.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:H to J]]
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Hyde is a blonde in this adaptation and does have some good in him.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Sgt. Oliver Drumwell is half human and half troll.
* HandsomeLech: Hyde likes female attention and he is big flirt [[spoiler: though in reality, he only loves Lucy, but he is afraid to commit because he fears being hurt or used]].
* InnocentBlueEyes: Mr. Hyde has blue eyes which give him a more docile and less sinister look.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While Hyde is still selfish and conceited, he is not above feeling sympathy and will help those who genuinely are in need. Drumwell also falls under this because he can be strict and by the book, but he only is so because he cares and he does feel bad when people are wrongfully accused.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Thomas "Tom" Rider and his troupe.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:K to L]]
* KickTheDog: Jekyll is pushed around and taken advantage of by everyone due to fearing confrontation. Poole sort of falls under this too because Carew keeps using him as a scapegoat.
* KilledOffforReal: [[spoiler:Lanyon is not exactly, but he is never coming back because his alternate self Ode cannot see or hear him.]]
* LovableNerd: Dr. Jekyll hence his nickname "The Good Doctor".
* LoveHurts: Emma cheated on Jekyll from day one and dumped him for the other guy. This broke Jekyll's heart badly.
* LoveInterests: Lucy Harris to Hyde. [[spoiler:They don't become official until act 7 though]]. Jekyll used to be engaged to Emma Carmen, but she ended things after confessing her infidelity.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:M to N]]
* MadScientist: Jekyll though he's one of the good ones.
* ManOfWealthAndTaste: Carew is extremely rich.
* MessyHair: Jekyll has wavy and wild hair with a notably cowlick curl which bends upwards.
* MirrorRoutine: How Jekyll and Hyde communicate though only they can see and hear each other.
* MissingMom: We never see or hear of Mrs. Carew [[spoiler: because she died giving birth to Nellie]].
* MoralityPet: Poole is this to Hyde and Emily and Will are this to Jekyll to an extent.
* NeverMyFault: Emma claimed Jekyll drove her into the arms of another man because he was too busy with his research. Of course, Emily pointed out that Emma could have come forward about her feelings instead of cheating.
* NiceGuy: Dr. Jekyll to a fault.
* NothingButSkinAndBones: Jekyll is just naturally so thin that his ribs show slightly.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:O]]
* OddCouple: Jekyll and Hyde.
* OddFriendship: Despite not getting along at first and still butting heads, the two develop a friendship after exchanging advice.
* OldSchoolChivalry: Hyde kisses the hand of a lady out of respect no matter her social standing and when he's giving his apologetic speech to Lucy, he has his hat off the whole time and even bows to her.
* OldFriend: Utterson to Poole.
* OnlyFriend: Utterson is the one person who really does have Jekyll's best interest at heart.
* OrangeAndBlueMorality: Both Jekyll and Hyde have been shown to have both good and bad in them in different ways. Jekyll is openly good, but doesn't have the courage to always do what is right. Hyde claims he cares only for himself, but has been shown to feel sympathy for those who get hurt or used.
* OrphansOrdeal: Lucy's childhood. [[spoiler:No one would adopt her because she was the child of a black woman and white man meaning she was a living social taboo and it made people very uncomfortable.]]
* OurMonstersAreDifferent: In this universe, being a monster is no different than being of a culture hence why everyone acts natural around Hyde.
* OurTrollsAreDifferent: In this version, Hyde is a troll because trollbane was the main ingredient used in the Hyde formula. It is also shown that not being human in this adaptation is perfectly normal.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:P]]
* ParentalSubstitute: Poole is like a father to Lucy.
* PhysicalScarsPsychologicalScars: Lucy has both.
* PoliceBrutality: Subverted. Sgt. Drumwell and the police force are only stern when necessary and when he's arresting, he handles him gently and clearly hates bringing him in.
* PoliteVillainsRudeHeroes: Carew is friendly and polite whereas Hyde is rough around the edges and can be rude.
* PushedTooFar: Jekyll decides to test his Hyde Formula on himself because he is tired of being pushed around and he was sure it work the way it was supposed to. It didn't though. Plus, when Lanyon comes over for a surprise visit with some shady characters, Jekyll doesn't buy his charade and spits in his face. [[http://mksjekyllandhyde.thecomicseries.com/comics/187/ Twice]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:R]]
* RavenHairIvorySkin: Jekyll's signature dark hair and pale complexion is a foil to Hyde's blonde hair and darkish complexion.
* RedOniBlueOni: Dr. Jekyll is calm and collected while Mr. Hyde is driven by emotion.
* RetiredBadass: Mrs. Opal doesn't take foul play on the badminton court lightly and she coaches with an iron fist regardless of your social standing.
* RichBitch: Nellie Carew is the spoiled daughter of a governor with a horrible mean streak.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Louis the cockatoo.
* TheRival: Dr. Lanyon to Dr. Jekyll, Nellie to Emily and to an extent, Tom the thug to Hyde.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:S]]
* SamusIsAGirl: [[spoiler: The Achmist turns out to be a woman named Katherine Vice]].
* ScienceHero: Jekyll uses his expertise in chemistry to find out the true cause of the mercury poisonings to clear Poole's name.
* SecretlyWealthy: The Jekylls and Uttersons are very well off, but don't flaunt it around.
* ShadowPin: Another way of which Jekyll and Hyde communicate with each other.
* SideEffectsInclude: Jekyll needs to take the Hyde formula on a 24 hour basis or he will die. This side effect is unique to Jekyll because he took the Hyde Formula. To give Jekyll control again, Hyde must drink the Jekyll Antidote. Moreover, the Hyde Formula is very unpredictable, so Jekyll and Hyde make absolutely sure that no one else ever drinks it.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Dr. Jekyll
* SparedByTheAdaptation: [[spoiler:Lanyon does not die of shock seeing Jekyll transforming into Hyde]], though this is an unfortnate take on this trope [[spoiler:with Lanyon being trapped in a Hyde form, never to be heard or seen by his other self]]
* SpoiledBrat: Nellie feels a sense of entitlement to everything even when she doesn't earn it like the title of star player on the badminton team.
* SplitPersonality: Jekyll and Hyde technically, but they each have their our spirit and interests.
* SplitPersonalityTeam: Jekyll and Hyde are this though Jekyll can be quite stubborn when it comes to cooperating with Hyde.
* StraightMan: Gabriel John Utterson is the most grounded of all the characters and he is also the most noble.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Emily and Henry Jekyll have the exact same hair. It is implied that her father, Jekyll's cousin, has hair like that too. Carew and his daughter both have the same hair, nose and moles in the exact same places.
* SweetTooth: Jekyll has one hence his baking skills and so does Will.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:T]]
* TantrumThrowing: Nellie does this every time she doesn't get her way.
* TenderTears: Jekyll can be emotional.
* ThatCameOutWrong: In Act 6, Hyde winds up hurting both Lucy and Poole's feelings by saying mean things [[http://mksjekyllandhyde.thecomicseries.com/comics/138/ here]] and [[http://mksjekyllandhyde.thecomicseries.com/comics/142/ here]].
* ThinkOfTheChildren!: Jekyll was very angry at Hyde because Emily and Will were staying over for the weekend, but Hyde refused to go Jekyll's house until he was desperate.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Emily Jekyll is a tomboy for the most part, but she still wears dresses and her designated colour is purple.
* TurnsRed: Characters' faces turn red when angry, pink when embarrassed, white when scared, blue when choking or green when sick.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:U to Y]]
* UncattyResemblance: Louis' crest is actually shaped exactly like Jekyll's signature cowlick and as Robert, his physique and facial expression are a lot like Hyde's.
* VillainOverForDinner: Carew invites the Jekylls and Uttersons to Nellie's birthday ball and really wanted them to come though it could be that he wanted to keep up appearances and because it meant more presents for Nellie.
* WhamLine: Jekyll makes it clear that nobody touches his hair [[http://mksjekyllandhyde.thecomicseries.com/comics/187/ here]] by saying "NEVER! TOUCH! MY HAIR!"
* WhatTheHellHero: Jekyll has this moment when he fails to stand up for Emily and Hyde soon after has his after he hurts Lucy and Poole's feelings.
* WouldHarmASenior: Tom and troupe would hurt Poole's business by harassing and attacking his customers and it was also hinted that they bullied Poole too. [[spoiler: Carew and Lanyon also had no qualms about framing Poole for the mercury poisonings.]]
* WouldHitAGirl: Tom slaps Lucy across the face when she refuses to cooperate with him.
* WrongfullyAccused: Poole is a victim of this twice by Carew. [[spoiler: The first time, he was framed for attempting to steal Nellie's jewels five years ago. The second time, he was blamed for causing the mercury poisonings by serving tainted alcohol. It turns out that the mercury was really coming from Dr. Lanyon's hair removal cream.]]
* YourMakeUpIsRunning: Lucy's mascara runs when she cries.
