''[[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/ The Wotch: Cheer!]]'' ([[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-001 first comic]]) is a [[Main/{{Spinoff}} spinoff]] of ''Webcomic/TheWotch''. It revolves around the misadventures of four cheerleaders ([[GenderBender who used to be]] [[JerkJock jerk jocks]]) at Tandy Gardens High School, [[ExtranormalInstitute which is a much stranger place than it seems]].

Unfortunately, though, [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/ Word of Backup Host]] is it's a DeadFic. Most pages are posted there and on [[https://archive.archive.org archive.org]] with at least [[https://web.archive.org/web/20150411171824/http://www.cheercomic.com/?date=2007-02-13 one exception]] with the former (presumably accidental).

The main characters include:

* Alexandra "Alex" King, the leader: prone to [[SesquipedalianLoquaciousness long, dramatic speeches.]] Quite wealthy, but hides it (she's sort of a NonIdleRich).
* Cher "Lita" Harper, a [[GamerChick D&D player]] and BigEater, and not afraid to use her [[ChickMagnet dude magnet]] powers to get her way.
* Samantha "Sam" Smith, an artistic homebody who creates the uniforms and choreography.
* Johanna "Jo" Star, a [[Main/{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Cloudcuckoolander]], and the only one of the four who remembers life before being transformed.

[[JustForFun/IThoughtItMeant No relation to]] ''Series/{{Cheers}}''.

----
!!This Webcomic provides examples of:
* AllCheeringAllTheTime: A notable aversion. The four all have wildly different personalities; Alex treats the cheer squad as a glorious military unit.
* AllGuysWantCheerleaders: subverted six ways to Sunday, up to and including [[GenderBender "All Guys Want To Be Cheerleaders"]] in Jo's case.
* AllMenArePerverts: Pointed out [[https://web.archive.org/web/20150906063931/http://www.cheercomic.com/?date=2007-02-13 here]].
* AlphaBitch: Tamara Cass and, to a lesser degree, Lindsay Verte. Also the Ekaltsew High cheerleaders.
* AnimeHair: [[Main/{{Lampshaded}} Lampshaded]] [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-101 here]]
%%ZCE * ArtEvolution
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Alex seems to have a mild case of ADD, noticeable only when she tries to go off on one of her long-winded speeches and gets derailed.
* BavarianFireDrill: After getting rid of the (male) principal, Agent 32 manages to convince a teacher and some students that she is the principal--no, not a new one, the same one as ever.
* {{BFS}}: [[https://web.archive.org/web/20150906063931/http://www.cheercomic.com/?date=2005-10-31 Two of them, in this filler comic.]]
** Obviously, the Masamune and Buster Sword from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII''.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Alex in a suit, as shown [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-111 here]]
* BigEater: Lita has been shown to be quite a [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-114 fan of beef.]]
* BodyHorror: Alex's minotaur transformation wasn't exactly the type of "poof" that transformations took on in [[Webcomic/TheWotch the parent comic]].
* ChainmailBikini: During the MMO share dream. Lita manages to acquire a set of these by looting a dead griefer. A 'male' dead griefer whose armour actually looked like armour when he, a male was wearing it. Alex's [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-275 expression]] [[LampshadeHanging Lampshades this perfectly]]
* ClothingDamage: Alex's transformations do a number on her outfits.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Jo, as proven [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-219 here]]
** TheCuckoolanderWasRight: Jo is frighteningly aware of a large number of things she shouldn't be aware of, and not just her past as "Colin." It borders on being some sort of psychic or oracle.
* [[StrangeMindsThinkAlike Convergent Non-Sequitur]]: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-033 Two geese]], [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-049 a roll of duct tape]], [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-219 23 toothpicks]], [[NoodleImplements and some sodium benzoate.]]
** "[[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-119 There won't be enough]] [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-117 sandwich baggies in the world...]]"
* CruelCheerleader: None of the Tandy Gardens High squad, though they did used to be {{JerkJock}}s pre-transformation , but the Ekaltsew High cheerleaders are. They belittle the Tandy squad, calling them losers, and don't even respect their ''own'' school's athletes.[[note]]When a member of the Ekaltsew boy's Varisty Basketball team tries to point out all the Ekaltsew High cheer squad has been cheering for is ''themselves'' their leader Felicia dismissively tells him "nobody is here to see ''you''".[[/note]]
* EmbarrassingFirstName: Lita, her first name is Cher which mean she has the PunnyName for a cheerleader of "Cher Lita". Before being transformed her name was Sonny Leo.
* EmptyPilesOfClothing: Alex leaves these behind when she (apparently) turns into a small fairy or bug in the middle of an assembly. Naturally, when she pops up later, she's in desperate need of clothing.
* ExplosiveInstrumentation: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-211 Poor, poor Mary.]]
* EyesAlwaysShut: Agent 40
* {{Fanservice}}: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-007 This.]] Also Agent 32, on purpose. [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-080 * ka-flirt* ]]
%%ZCE * FirstLawOfGenderBending
* GambitPileup: The student assembly ends up being one of these, with a ''minimum'' of six different plans being set in motion (with some other people simply [[IndyPloy winging it]]).
* GamerChick: Lita, of the tabletop RPG variety
* GenderBender: Our four hero(ines), later Peter Hall.
* GeniusDitz: Jo again, who is [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-025 surprisingly]] [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-026 observant]] and spookily [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-122 insightful]] when she wants to be.
* GoSeduceMyArchNemesis Tamara [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-023 sends her boyfriend]] to seduce one of the cheerleaders so they'll miss an upcoming game as a DivideAndConquer ploy. Too bad he picked Jo, who is well aware of his dalliances and calls him out on his lies.
* GratuitousEnglish: Lampshaded in [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-125 this]] comic: "Maybe with an accent...Faiaa Bouru!"
* HalfIdenticalTwin: Lita has two siblings who fit the bill. They even have the 'finishing each others' sentences' bit down pat.
* HowDoIShotWeb: Jo found an obviously magic wand as a toy in a happy meal. She still can't figure out how to use it.
** Except as a club: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-125 "Pretty Cosmic Crystal Rainbow Overhead Smash!"]]
* InvoluntaryShapeshifting: Aside from the original GenderBender, 32 turns Alex into a minotaur for help during the invasion. Since then, she's prone to weird transformations during emotional duress, but she never recalls any of her episodes.
* JediMindTrick: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-067 Fails]] miserably.
* KudzuPlot: The first chapter sets up a large number of immediate issues, none of which actually get resolved any time soon.
* LargeHam: Alex.
* MadScientist: Mary Miller, who even bears the title in the cast page, and created a pie launcher that used an AI to target for [[RuleOfFunny maximum comedic value.]][[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-223 See it here!]]
* MeaningfulName: Cher Lita Harper. Think about it.
* MissingMom: Sam, implied to be due to DeathByChildbirth
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: The girls act like girls, dress like girls, think like girls, and even [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-096 throw like girls.]]
** [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-131 "Is charging something a good plan? It seems like a good plan..."]]
* MotorMouth (Alex. Unfortunately, she also has [[AttentionDeficitOohShiny Attention Deficit...Ooh, Shiny!]], which means her long-winded speeches can end up wildly off-track.)
** Her occasional SesquipedalianLoquaciousness doesn't help matters either.
* MyEyesAreUpHere: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-183 Here]].
* NoNameGiven: The agents in ''Cheer!''
* NoodleImplements: Apparently there's a lot you can do with two geese, a roll of duct tape, twenty-three toothpicks and some sodium benzoate.
** This is even parodied in a [[ guest comic]], when the artist speculates exactly what those things are used for, but can only come to the conclusion that it causes vague panic in most people.
* NoodleIncident: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-263 Apparently involving a moose in the Dance Club's room...]] [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial which Alex knows nothing about.]]
* {{Otaku}}: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-265 Alex dreams of D-Day,]] [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-274 and knows quite a bit about military weaponry.]]
** And her ring-tone is the 1812 Overture. Y'know, the one that uses a ''cannon''.
* TheOmniscientCouncilOfVagueness: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-011 The Council]]
* OrphanedSeries: Hasn't updated since December 23, 2013.
* PaperThinDisguise: Agent 32, pretending to be Principal O'Brian. Note that O'Brian was a rather unattractive old ''man'', and Agent 32 is, [[TheVamp well]]... [[MsFanservice not.]] And her disguise is to just flirt with whoever asks until they [[DistractedByTheSexy forget what they were asking about.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: Alex, who is shown spending Christmas Eve strumming her guitar alone (sniff) and even gets her allowance via direct deposit.
** [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-097 "Hello Darkness..., my old friend..."]]
* PlayingCyrano: Max & Xander
* RetGone: The Girls' former JerkJock identities, which is generally a good thing since nobody liked them much, [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-113 but the realization that no one remembers any of the good things they did either is enough to bring Jo to tears at one point.]]
** RippleEffectProofMemory: Jo still remembers being a boy. Subconsciously, Alex does, too, as evidenced by some of her dreams. Also, ''Webcomic/TheWotch'' established that the girls' parents know that they used to be boys.
*** That was more of an AuthorsSavingThrow, as people were calling out Anne for forcibly changing people against their will, so by saying that, it would be ok (as Cheer does make it clear while they were JerkJock[=s=] for the most of it they were still the same people) plus it gets mentioned in Webcomic/TheWotch.
*** [[Webcomic/TheWotch Anne's Feminist Pride]] says that spells can bring forth or diminish personality traits, but can't change personality completely. Thus, the cheerleaders are basically the same people they always were; it's implied their JerkJock behavior in their old life was because they thought that's how jocks ''should'' act and/or were overcompensating for their more "feminine" (sensitive) inner natures.
*** Implied nothing, in a Wotch one shot comic 'Jo' expressed extreme hatred of how his male body and large 'football' hands made it difficult to do arts and crafts which he enjoyed, this was followed by a ghostly image of his future girl self hugging the boy sadly.
* RichBitch: Alex and Lindsay. Averted in Alex's case (she funded the Cheerleaders' post-GenderBender wardrobe binge out of her own pocket) and semi-averted in Lindsay, who isn't a RichBitch so much as completely clueless about the way common people live.
* RunningGag: Several, but especially agent 32's tripping people while invisible.
** Also the NoodleImplements, which have been mentioned by multiple characters.
** "Miss O'Brien!" "Who?"
* ScaryBlackMan (Bruce Camaro. A pretty cool dude, but he ''is'' a bodyguard and therefore "intimidating" is in the job description.)
* ScheduleSlip: Following the typical webcomic arc from two to three times a week in the beginning to once or twice a month more or less at random lately.
* SdrawkcabName: The rival high school is Ekaltsew.
* SecondLawOfGenderBending: Jo only; the others don't appear to remember.
* ShipTease: 29/32, Alex/Lita.
* ShoutOut: Pay attention to [[Series/{{Firefly}} what]] Jo is doing in [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-040 this]] strip...
** [[AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs All your]] [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-065 wand]] [[VideoGame/ZeroWing are belong to us!]]
** She's also a fan of "[[Franchise/SailorMoon Windjammer Luna]]".
** It seems the wand is a shout out machine...causing Jo to shout out things such as [[{{Literature/Slayers}} Dragon Slave]], [[Music/MegumiHayashibara Faiaa Bouru]], and [[Franchise/FinalFantasy Meteor]].
** Alex quotes the opening line of "[[Music/SimonAndGarfunkel The Sound of Silence]]" upon entering her empty home [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-097 here]].
* SleepCute: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-263 As if we didn't already have enough evidence to support Alex/Lita...]]
** Even the author thinks they're cute.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-273 "He's just standing here..."]]
* TheStoic: Agent 29.
* ThirdLawOfGenderBending: In a big, big way, made explicit in canon.
* TomboyishName: Alex, Sam, and Jo, though ironically enough their girl names bear less relationship to their former male names (Aaron, Gene, and Colin) then Cher's does to her former male name of [[ShoutOut "Sonny"]].
* UnclePennybags: Alex is secretly very rich, but hides all mention of it because she's not fond of her distant parents.
* UnsoundEffect: Part of the Wotch tradition, with new levels including ''mysterious trip!'' and ''[[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-044 THAC0'D!]]''
* WeirdnessCensor: Lita's mother knows she used to be a boy but hasn't said anything because Lita seems much happier as a girl.
** In fact, it's established in ''Webcomic/TheWotch'' that ''all'' the families know, it's just that ''none'' of them ever said anything to the girls themselves, possibly due to Miranda's influence.
*** Or because Lita's mom at least is either ''really'' accepting of things or a ditz.
* {{Yandere}}: [[http://cheer.sailorsun.org/?comic=cheer-150 Agent 40]], aka "That Grinning, Psychopathic Harlot", not that she tries to hide it.
