Altermeta is a slice-of-life webcomic with fantasy overtones, made evident by the fact that all the characters are dragons. Started in November, 2001 Altermeta seemed to have disappeared into the bowels of Abandoned Webcomic Hell, until it was revived a short while ago, first as a full-fantasy reboot of the original comic, then rebooting again as a direct continuation.

!!This webcomic includes examples of:
* AllJustADream: The events of the comics near April first were revealed to have taken place in D'Shea's head. This went over better than the author had expected.
* AllThereInTheManual: A huge amount of background material has been explained on the forum.
* AnachronismStew: As Cavris is an alternate world, it does not mesh nicely with any given time period. 64-bit graphics are new and their neighbors recently invented the Internet, placing it roughly into the equivalent of the late [[TheEighties 1980s]] or so, but then Josephine gets a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_(fifth_generation) fifth-generation Ford Mustang]].
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * AnimatedActors
* ArchiveTrawl: You will not understand what's going on without reading the original comics.
** A few recap strips have helped this along.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking
-->'''Josephine:''' No, um, you don't understand. He's come to devour little kids too! And... and... birds, and the number 4, and to scare the elderly, and make fun of weak ankled people, and become a Republican, and make everyone just really really sad!
* ArtEvolution: Though to be fair, the original art was pretty good, too.
* BerserkButton: Rutherford when he doesn't get his coffee.
** T-Square about being, well, [[{{Tomboy}} square]].
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * BigEater: Boo.
%% commented out as WeblinksAreNotExamples * BrainBleach: [[http://altermeta.net/oldarchive/archive.php?comic=76 Sasha needs some]].
* CatapultNightmare: Sasha has one in "Nemesis".
* CerebusSyndrome: The author has announced [[http://www.altermeta.net/archive.php?comic=68 here]] that the comic will be taking a slight dip in this direction.
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * CityGuards: In the first reboot.
* CloudCuckoolander: Averted [[spoiler: with Sasha. The scrunchy WAS talking to him...]]
%% commented out as WeblinksAreNotExamples * CoolAirship: [[http://altermeta.net/archive.php?comic=160 T-Square's pirate ship]].
%% commented out as WeblinksAreNotExamples * CrashIntoHello: Used [[http://altermeta.net/oldarchive/archive.php?comic=144 here]].
* CrazyPrepared: Everyone around Ruth has a backup supply of coffee. Even if one of them is a hypodermic needle and another is an apple.
* CrystalSpiresAndTogas: The first reboot has some of this.
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * DeadpanSnarker: Ruth.
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * DeusExMachina: Played with with Plot In A Box.
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * TheDitz: Josephine and Sasha.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Sasha. Toss on some makeup, and he's a hair away...
** Even more bishonen in the new version than the previous incarnations. Giving him markings that resemble eyeshadow probably didn't help.
* TheDungAges: Ruth's perception of the Renaissance.
* ForeignQueasine: Kuvrahk food could be like this us - they like ''really'' raw meat.
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * FunnyForeigner: T-Square's Aunt Binki.
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * GorgeousPeriodDress: In the Renaissance story. Lampshaded when Rutherford points out the myriad historical inaccuracies in the costuming he can see.
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * ICallItVera
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample -->'''Ruth:''' And I shall call you... Abigail...
* IconicItem: Tabitha (aka T-Square) has... well... a t-square. Guess where the nickname comes from.
%% commented out as WeblinksAreNotExamples * IncendiaryExponent: [=CC's=] [[http://www.altermeta.net/archive.php?comic=102 new]] [[http://www.altermeta.net/archive.php?comic=103 outfit]] [[http://altermeta.net/archive.php?comic=105 seems to]] [[http://altermeta.net/archive.php?comic=106 count]].

%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * MrFanservice: Didier; Sasha.
* MundaneFantastic: The comic focus on the life of several high school students, and yet there are things like random ninja attacks, possessed scrunchies, and the warehouse from ''Film/RaidersOfTheLostArk'' being in Sasha's shed.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Rutherford, who has never been seen not holding a mug of coffee.
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * MyBelovedSmother: Sasha's mom.
* NewTransferStudent: Boo; possibly subverted in that she ''did'' go to the school, moved away, then moved back.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: T-Square, a ninja-slaying artist pirate.
%% commented out as ZeroContextExample * NoEnding: Hapened twice so far, once for each orphaning.
* NoFourthWall: The characters would often address the artist or the audience.
%% commented out as WeblinksAreNotExamples * NoseBleed: Sasha gets one [[http://altermeta.net/archive.php?comic=101 here]].
%% commented out as WeblinksAreNotExamples * OnlyAFleshWound: Played straight then subverted in the same [[http://altermeta.net/archive.php?comic=114 page]].
* OrphanedSeries: Orphaned twice, and resurrected twice.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: For one, they are called Kuvrahks.
* ParentalSexualitySquick: Coming from a large family, [[http://altermeta.net/oldarchive/archive.php?comic=76 CC is not bothered by her parents having sex]], but Sasha plays this straight.

* ShoutOut: "THE MATRIX HAS YOU, BIATCH!"
** Also, TV Tropes. ([[http://www.altermeta.net/archive.php?comic=9 here]], in the notes)
** And Lethal Weapon.[[note]]Most likely a coincidence, as the author [[http://csyelus.com/index.php?topic=1473.msg17316#msg17316 doesn't seem to think so.]][[/note]]
** The government warehouse in ''Film/RaidersOfTheLostArk''.
