Context WMG / TucaAndBertie

Go To

[[WMG: The show takes place in the same universe as ''WesternAnimation/BoJackHorseman''.]]
Tuca & Bertie just happen to live in a city/region primarily populated by birds rather than mammals. Perhaps migration occurs between the two settings, which is why you’ll see the occasional human in Tuca & Bertie or avian characters like Wanda the owl and the paparazzi birds in Bojack Horseman.
* Potentially jossed, as Lisa Hanawalt has said that this show is ''not'' a spin-off of ''[=BoJack=]''.
** This is supported by the fact that in Bojack, all members of the kingdom Animalia appear to be anthropomorphic and humanoid, but in T&B there are plenty of non-anthro creatures mixed in with the anthros. Not to mention the anthropomorphic plants in the latter are nowhere to be seen in the world of [=BoJack=] Horseman.
** Or maybe it's a ShowWithinAShow.

[[WMG: Tuca's [[BigEater eating habits]] are just another addiction.]]
Food is just a safer substance than alcohol, but it's probably going to catch up with her eventually (ie, she'll develop an eating disorder or gain too much weight).

[[WMG: Bertie and Speckle will eventually move into a house... and bring Tuca along with them.]]
Maybe they need the extra money, maybe (hopefully) the OneTrueThreesome will come true, but it could also lead to some interesting conflicts.

[[WMG: Bertie's parents [[MyBelovedSmother coddle her]].]]
While in her first meeting with Women Taking Up Space, Bertie says that she wants to be treated like an adult, as all of the condescending come-ons by perverted men make her feel as though she's not. However, she could also be referring to how her parents became overprotective of her after she was molested as a child and that she'll never be able to grow up, let alone live with her trauma, if they keep her emotionally dependent on them, which is embarassing enough when you're just starting out but ''really'' embarrassing if you're in your thirties.
* [[spoiler: Jossed. Although they try to be loving, they’re pretty emotionally distant and tend to push any negative feelings under the rug, and pretty much all but ignored the Jelly Lakes incident.]]

There are also indications that Bertie is at least on good terms with her mother (no mention of her father), as "Call Mom" is one of the things written on her whiteboard in her cubical.

[[WMG: There isn't going to be a second season.]]
As of this writing, it's been almost two months since season one was released, and most of these shows have their renewal announced mere days or even a week later. It's possible that this one isn't getting renewed, either because it's not popular enough, the crew is too busy with ''Bojack'' or simply the creators said all they needed to say.
* Sadly, [[https://tvline.com/2019/07/24/tuca-and-bertie-cancelled-netflix-season-2/ this appears to be true]].
* So so so happy to Joss this! Thanks, Adult Swim.

[[WMG: Tuca knows that she's a fictional character in a TV show, a 'la ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}.]]
She's prone to more [[RealityWarper reality-warping]] gags than the other characters and in the first episode, she's the only character who [[BreakingTheFourthWall narrates their introduction]].

[[WMG: Tuca, Bertie and Speckle are TrueCompanions.]]
There's some indication that Bertie and Speckle's relationship isn't going to last, simply because their life goals aren't boding well, which is never anyone's fault. However, even when he's still somewhat mad at her, Speckle still helps Bertie with her [=SweetBeaks=] project. Meanwhile, while Tuca and Bertie have their differences and are going through similar, albeit platonic, circumstances, they clearly hate being mad at each other and are eager to make up as soon as enough time has passed. Later episodes might show the three of them splintering off in their own directions but otherwise remaining best friends.

[[WMG: Pastry Pete will still be in the show, but...]]
... he'll have significantly fallen from grace, being forced to work in some degrading food service job like Starbucks once his name as a celebrity chef has been permanently tarnished. And like Dirk, he'll mainly only exist to be [[HateSink a chauvinist who regularly]] gets abused for his behavior.
* {{Jossed}} Pastry Pete was EasilyForgiven after making a video baking sorry pastries.

[[WMG: The girl running Pastry Pete's snack cart will reappear and is another woman under him being preyed on.]]
Makes sense, given how uneasy she seemed to be when on that phone call.

[[WMG: Bertie is either going to get pregnant or have a pregnancy scare.]]
She mentions in "The Deli Guy" that she used to take birth control, but has gone off it because it "makes [her] crazy", so she sticks with condoms. With her and Speckle's healthy sexual relationship, now even more active because of Bertie's honesty about what she likes, it's possible the two are going to have an accident. Whether this will be [[PlayedForDrama played for dramatic conflict]] or [[PlayedForLaughs zany set of circumstances that will result in wacky hijinks from all involved]] remains to be seen.
* After season 3 establishes that both her and Speckle agree to not have children, this remains a distinct possibility. Likely followed by Speckle opting for a vasectomy.
* Alternatively, [[spoiler: since Tuca's fertility got compromised, but she wants to be a mother, Bertie will agree to be her surrogate at some point.]]

[[WMG:Tuca's new Love Interest will be revealed to be a BitchInSheepsClothing, becoming a major source of conflict down the second season.]]

So,there's not-so-subtle hints that Kara,Tuca's new girlfriend, is much meaner than she looks. The seventh episode has shown her to have an ItsAllAboutMe attitude, in addition to brushing off her jerky behavior after, she meets up with Tuca during the episode's ending after being rather insulting to Tuca. So, this might be ForeShadowing that Kara's more of an jerk than she lets on. She may become an obstacle towards Tuca,Bertie, and to a lesser extent Speckle down the line. She might parallel Pastry Pete & Auntie Tulullah in terms regarding behavior and conduct, eventually becoming the primary antagonist for Tuca.
Since season one had Pastry Pete be the major antagonist of sorts during his run for Bertie, Kara will be so down the way for season two for the Tucan in shorts.
* [[spoiler: Confirmed. This is basically exactly what happened.]]

[[WMG: Tuca was the baby of the bunch.]]

If she were older, she'd remember her mother having a man/men around at least for a short amount of time. It would explain why she's a bit irresponsible if all her older siblings were taking care of her all the time. Another explanation is they were all hatched from the same clutch and are the same age. If this is the case, Tuca may have had a weak start in life and others in the family just forgot to stop babying her.

[[WMG: We haven't seen the last of Kara.]]

Much like Pastry Pete, Kara is going to make a return and try to reestablish things with Tuca. Unlike Pete (who tries to play his wrongdoings off as a misunderstanding and the efforts of some nobody to discredit him), Kara will seem to want to genuinely change for the better. Whether her efforts ''are'' genuine or not, Tuca will end up not being able to fully trust her again, and will not take her back, with the aesop being that it's fine not to let people who've hurt you back into your life, even if they've changed and want to be better. That decision belongs to you, and they don't have a right to forgiveness you don't feel comfortable giving.
* [[spoiler: Partially confirmed in season 3 finale. Kara's already moved on to another girlfriend and had an epiphany that saved their relationship. While she never apologizes, she's more than willing to help out with Tuca's medical emergency.]]
