[[WMG:The Phantom, aka the fake Bobby Fulbright is able to NoSell Phoenix Wright's Magatama.]]
During the investigation of case 5-4, Phoenix asks why Detective Fulbright being so cooperative with them in providing evidence and CSI assistance despite being on the prosecution's side. This leads Phoenix and Athena to suspect that Fulbright has and ulterior motive for helping them which leads to two of Fubright's red Psyche-Locks popping. After breaking the locks, Fulbright reveals that the reason he decided to help them was because he felt it was unjust that the space center went ahead with the launch despite a bomb threat being called in and why a convicted felon like Simon Blackquill is still acting as a criminal prosecutor. Blackquill had personal vendetta for seven years which may lead to him making a false conviction due to his irrational thinking and behavior. However, if you had beaten the game, you would have known that Bobby Fulbright was really the Phantom in disguise and his motive for helping the Defense Team wasn't about making sure true justice happens in the courtroom, but to prevent his secret identity from be revealed by providing the defense with fake support and evidence. Phoenix Magatama wasn't able to pick up his true psyche-locks and considering what kind of a person the Phantom is, not even black pysche-locks showed up. It appears the Phantom's BecomingTheMask act was so powerful that it was able to fool Phoenix's Magatama (which is supposed to detect if a person is keeping secrets or not) making it think he really is Detective Bobby Fulbright.
* It's more likely because Phantom is so deep into the Fulbright role, that's what he would actually do. It's somewhat similar to what happened in the second game, Phoenix didn't ask the right question to find out what "Fulbright" is truly hiding, just like Matt Engarde.

[[WMG:The Cykes family is very distantly descended from [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythia the oracles of Delphi]].]]
Hence the Greek names and preternatural intuition. Their ancestors set up the temple/cave show because it amplified the voices of petitioners, helping the Oracle to "read" them. It also protected young oracles from the noise of the outside world, like Athena was protected by the Space Center's isolation.

[[/folder]]

[[WMG: Athena Cykes is somehow related to the Gramaryes]]
Her design seems to be inspired by crescent moons, which adorned Thalassa as Lamiroir's clothes. Also, she seems to be focuses on reading the emotions behind what people are saying, and her name is like Apollo's in that it is named after a Greek God. She could very well possibly be another of Thalassa's children.
* This will ruin another of Apollo's possible ships, however.
* Jossed. She wears crescent moon earrings and specialises in psychology because her mother worked at an astronomy research facility and was a professor in psychology.

[[WMG: Something bad has happened to Trucy]]
(Overlaps with a few other [=WMGs=] but whatevs) She's still nowhere to be seen apart from a single shot looking at Phoenix's locket with the picture of her. Could she be like, dead? Maybe a victim of the explosion? Or something almost as bad as dead? It would definitely show you they're serious about this new darker tone that the series is clearly heading towards. Or alternatively...
* Confirmed, more or less. She gets kidnapped by Aura's robots in Case 5.

[[WMG: Trucy is now a successful touring magician and has no time for us losers]]
Just another possibility really...
* Jossed. She's involved in at least Case 2 of the game.
** She also appears in-between in the other cases, and has a role in Case 5 (see above). So completely jossed.

[[WMG: The cast of Ace Attorney 4 was killed off in the courthouse explosion of the first case]]
To put it simply, a lot of people thought the original cast died before Ace Attorney 4 came out. Who's to say Creator/{{Capcom}} didn't try to invert this?
* [[WMG/PoisonOakEpilepticTrees I'd not like to believe this WMG.]]
* At least partially jossed. Apollo is alive - just severely bandaged up.
* Edgeworth is also shown to be alive along with Trucy.
* Klavier is alive and well too. Kristoph is probably still in jail. The only missing character is Ema but seriously doubt she was in that courtroom to begin with so, Jossed.
** There was only one victim in the bombing and it was even revealed that she was killed before the incident and it was an entirely new character. So, fully Jossed.

[[WMG: Athena Cykes is [[Videogame/SuperMarioRPG Geno]]]]
Her first name in Japanese (Kokone) is made up of the Chinese characters for "Heart" and "Sound" and her last name in Japanese (Kizuki) is a pun on "To notice/become aware of something". Geno's real name was given as "♥♪!?" In the English version of Super Mario RPG.
♥=Heart; ♪=Sound; !? =Awareness
Therefore, Athena is Geno.

[[WMG: Apollo will be a prosecutor]]
Inspired by some dA and fanfic. Why not? This is WMG!
Now with some scans out (surprise!), I'd like adding to this WMG. Apollo is now a prosecutor - temporarily, because Trucy AND Klavier got hit in the explosion. It's probably similiar to Edgeworth being Phoenix's stand-in in Trial and Tribulations. However, I don't think the silhouette in the trailer is him though, the hair is too different (unless they change the design)
* There is another version of a "Prosecutor Justice Theory". Apollo will become a prosecutor in his own will, because of an issue between he, Phoenix, and Lamiroir, who is actually Thalassa Gramarye, he and Trucy's mother. Also inspired by a fan-fic written by a person in Fanfiction.net named "nevertalk".
* Jossed. Apollo is the defense in Case 2.
** Not completely jossed with the theory around that Case 2 is a flashback. After all, Apollo is not bandaged nor does he give off the antagonistic feel in said case.
** Now completely jossed. We see this "antagonistic" design in Case 1 before the trial, and he's still wearing his attorney's badge.
* Also, both Klavier and Trucy are perfectly fine.
* Though Apollo ''does'' display that he'd make a fantastic prosecutor in Case 5 when he's testifying and does the prosecution's work ''for'' them. Edgeworth doesn't get much commentary in whilst Apollo is on the stand. So in a way, he was prosecuting, even if it wasn't official.

[[WMG: The jacket now Apollo dons is lent/given to him by a friend.]]
[[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130314040529/aceattorney/images/a/a9/Apollo_GS5.png This]] is his new design. The aforementioned friend, however, may or may not be a prosecutor, may or may not be a defense attorney, but he is definitely an important character. And whoever gave that jacket, he is definitely a crucial character in the final, climactic case of the game.
** This troper here is convinced that the silhouette at the end of the Gyakuten Saiban 5 trailer is Apollo, but he/she also thinks that the silhouette at the end of the trailer is the aforementioned friend, and not Apollo.
*** Confirmed: The jacket belonged to his best friend, Apollo starts to wear it after he is murdered.
*** {{Jossed}}, well, the one the "silhouette" part. See [[http://24.media.tumblr.com/35861a4f4009bf59e35e7c59ca1c37a2/tumblr_mldsxoU4vu1qm61tko1_500.jpg THIS]] why. And yes, that dude is the silhouette.
*** OMG! My tree was confirmed! Why am I not surprised!? xD

[[WMG: Gyakuten Saiban 5 will give rise to Phoenix Wright/Athena Cykes shippers.]]
Although they won't be looked at kindly by [[YaoiFangirl certain fans...]]
** Although some might be turned off due to the fact that Athena is technically the same age as Pearl...
** Never mind only two years older than his daughter!
** on a related note...

[[WMG: Athena will get ShipTease with Apollo]]
* They're of a closer age, and unlike Trucy she isn't his half-sister, so this seems to makes sense.
** They get some ShipTease, Klavier even thinks they are dating but it is nothing compared to the amount that Juniper/Apollo receives.

[[WMG: Maya will appear in the next game...]]
And it'll be what inspires Phoenix to taking up defending again. As we know, it is almost tradition for the girl to be accused of/related to a murder, and such if she made a return, it would almost be inevitably because of such a thing. Phoenix would have Apollo try and defend her to the best of his ability, all the while trying to get his badge back - we know that such a thing apparently doesn't take too long if its recognised that you have experience, hence why Godot seemed to come out of nowhere. Phoenix will then make an epic BigDamnHeroes moment with his classic objection, and will take over the case for Apollo.
* '''''[[color:red:OBJECTION!]]''''' It is more likely that Phoenix would make his BigDamnHeroes Objection while not being a defense attorney. Think about it: so many non-attorney characters have made objections and saved the trial. It'd actually be much harder for Phoenix to object and try to overtake Apollo's role as the defense attorney, because, as evidenced in AJ case 4, defense attorney switching takes place outside of court. Phoenix has better luck saving Maya as a random bystander bursting into the courtroom then a licensed DA.
* Jossed, if you're referring to AA5 - Maya doesn't appear personally in the game (though she does send Phoenix a letter), and she certainly isn't involved in a murder, so this isn't what motivated Phoenix to get his badge back. But she may well appear in future games, and get caught up in a murder as per tradition.
** While she doesn't appear in AA5, it's hinted that she will appear in the next game (chronologically speaking, obviously). In the letter she sent Phoenix, she mentions that she wants to see him, but can't at the time because she's undergoing a vital part of her training. In the credits, Pearl says that Maya is due to visit when she finishes her training.

[[WMG:The main character of the next game will be The Judge, with a bailiff as his partner.]]
After the credits at the end of ''Investigation'', he says that he might try to become a lawyer with a bailiff to help him.
* ...egad... if this occurs around the time of Phoenix's disbarment, he'll be paired with ''Mike Meekins''...
** Jossed for now, but who knows what the future holds beyond AA5?

[[WMG: Pearl, Maya and Edgeworth all know about Phoenix's disbarring + Next Game Predictions]]
It seems unlikely that Edgeworth, as one of the top prosecutors as well as a person accused of forging evidence, would not know about the disbarring. Edgeworth would then call Maya to inform her of this, but encourage her that a direct talk with him about it wouldn't be productive, hence the Steel Samurai stuff. However, Pearls would have likely heard about this through Maya, who would've been heartbroken at the thought of Phoenix forging evidence, and would probably become a prosecutor to try and find the truth behind the whole thing by talking to Klavier. However, by the time that she becomes one (at a young age, possibly with Franziska or Edgeworth's help) she discovers that Phoenix has a protoge, and then gets either Franziska or Edgeworth to mentor her while still doing medium training, despite the fact that Edgeworth has Kay as an assistant

If the above is true, then in the next game both Pearls and Edgeworth (or Franziska) will appear, possibly including Gumshoe, Kay and Maya. The cases will go like so: Case 1 will be Apollo vs Payne, Cases 2,3 and possibly 4 will have Apollo vs Pearl, the final case will be Apollo vs either Edgeworth, Franziska or Klavier, and there will possibly be one bit where you play as a recently reinstated Phoenix, possibly for the first part of the last case. Also, to prove to Pearl that the lawyer spirit still burns brightly in the Wright Anything Agency, Apollo (with Maya or a channeled Mia's help) will grab Phoenix's magatama and use it in his cases, which will become a key point when in the last case you have to combine the Psyche Lock and Percieve systems to defeat the Black Psyche Locks. Kay, when she appears, will basically be looking for evidence with Pearl or for Edgeworth.

* Confirmed. Edgeworth and Pearl (and if her letter is any indication, Maya) know about Phoenix's disbarring.

[[WMG: ''Gyakuten Saiban 5'' will let players play as Phoenix and Apollo.]]
Hey, the above WMG is right! Anyway, ''[=GS5=]'''s logo combines a blue "Gyakuten Saiban" title (as per the original series) and a big red '5' (indicative of Apollo). It's just a logo but...Phoenix did say he'd look into restarting his law career. If there was a big enough case that required both lawyers, it's not outside the realm of possibility.
* Perhaps we'll have old character such as Edgeworth, Maya and Pearl return too.
* Confirmed. Apollo is playable in Case 2.
** Double-confirmed. Phoenix is playable in Case 5 and the DLC, and also the second part of Case 4.

[[WMG: Athena Cykes is...]]
* Lynne from ''VideoGame/GhostTrick'' being channeled by Pearl
* An entirely new character, may or may not related with old characters.
* Already dead and being channeled by someone to solve the mysteries regarding her murder...
* Part of the new Yatagarasu team, along with Kay and Ema.
** All jossed apart from the second guess, Athena is a new character but her history is related to Phoenix's disbarment, her mother was employed at the same space centre as Apollo's best friend and she attends the same high school that Klavier once did.
* Actually an Android... Built for the sole purpose of integrating the emotion-reading technology into a form that could be used in court expressly for the purpose of using the Mood Matrix to bring down the Phantom. Essentially the ultimate product of the emotion research put into Ponco and Clonco. It'd explain her sudden spout of knowledge into psychology and law in such a short space of time with no contacts to speak of. Government benefactors shipped her off after her co-creator (Metis) was murdered where she was refitted and reprogrammed with knowledge and rewired to suppress the trauma which had shocked her 'core'. This explains how she turns over a brand new leaf personality wise considering how shy and reclusive she was pre-trauma. Also explains how she is strong enough to fling a guard effortlessly through the air and how widget can READ HER MIND (biological to technological mind reading in a small device is nonsense, much more plausible for there to be a wireless signal between her and widget). Aura was utterly furious the Government pulled her 'product' away and misdirected this aggression towards Athena when she met her again seeing her as 'her' property but living her own life (she doesn't have a high opinion of robots). Widget was clearly designed to serve as a communication tool before Athena could properly speak as it could convey thoughts and emotions she struggled with. Athena thinks the robotic operating table is a one-shot fix-all for people? IT WOULD BE FOR HER IF SHE WAS AN ANDROID. It provides a plausible explanation as to where Athena gets her relatively unexplained power too and how it could be controlled with technology (her headphones) as later on during the refitting they solved that glitch perfecting Athenatron's design. Bonus points if Athena's 'power' is sourced from the strange frequencies given off by the space rock.
** Unconfirmed...for now.

[[WMG: Predictions for cases in GS 5]]
* A case at Apollo's old orphanage.
* A case where a murder takes place at a Snackoo factory. Ema is very pleased.
* Winston Payne as your client. It's bound to happen eventually, right?
** All jossed.

[[WMG: Phoenix Wright will be the LAST murder victim in Gyakuten Saiban 5.]]
And Trucy will be the Defendant, bringing the games full circle with situation mirroring "Turnabout Sisters".
* It's unlikely they'd bring Phoenix back to please fans then do something like that which would unquestionably cause several of them to boycott the series in rage. But not impossible.
* Jossed.

[[WMG: Phoenix Wright will APPEAR to be a murder victim in Gyakuten Saiban 5.]]
* After all, do you think they'd ''really'' kill off everyone's favorite lovable lawyer? No. No, they would not. Would they pretend to kill him, causing much disbelief and tears among the fans, before revealing his "death" was just another one of his [[TheChessmaster Chessmaster]] ploys in achieving some hidden end? Yes, yes they would. And it would be awesome.
** So the real victim would be Furio Tigre?
* Jossed. However, this {{WMG}} seemed to have crossed CAPCOM's mind as they built the investigation demo video for AA5 around it, as seen [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_HlFbtj9jc here]].

[[WMG: Cody Hackins will make a reappearance in Gyakuten Saiban 5.]]
He's the only [[OverlyNarrowSuperlative non-dead, non-guilty, non-Rise from the Ashes witness/defendant from the first game]] who hasn't been in another game.
* Definitely possible. In what capacity would he appear? Well, when we last saw him he was only 7 years old and already extremely aggressive. He may have kept going in that direction and now, at age 17, he's a teenage troublemaker who's behaviour catches up with him when he accidentally gets implicated in a murder. Who does he call? The first lawyer to come to mind would most likely be the one who successfully got his childhood hero off the hook, wouldn't it? Especially with his fond memories of his very nice assistant who did that trade with him...or maybe he'll just be a minor character. Or a witness again. Maybe there'll be another Samurai-related case. Who knows?
* Jossed.

[[WMG: Not only will [=GS5=] cross over with VideoGame/GhostTrick, the whole purpose of Ghost Trick was for an AA crossover.]]
The crossover with Ghost Trick will be used to reintroduce supernatural elements to the series. All of this is part of a MASTER PLAN in response to the complaints some had about the lack of supernatural stuff in AJ outside of the Magatama.
* Kurain Channeling Technique is actually reverse Yomiel. Instead of the spirit posessing the body, the Kurain Technique is to summon them into the channeller's body.
** The Magatama they all endow is a Temsik fragment.
* Jossed. A crossover is still possible, but it ain't this game.

[[WMG: Phoenix's new assistant in Ace Attorney 5 is Pearl]]
It's like this: Trucy may be Nick's daughter but she's been assisting Apollo for over a year now and she's sticking with him even though Daddy's a lawyer again. Maya is too busy being the Kurain master and besides she's 27 now, and it sure seems the sidekick in an AA game must ALWAYS be a teenager. Bar none. It's possibly one of the 'Rule Of's (although which one I'm not sure). That leaves Pearl, who is now 17, the age Maya was when first introduced. Perfect candidate, no? Obviously she'll have changed somewhat so could easily develop a personality more fitted to replace Maya. And she can still channel Mia, who Nick clearly still needs as she was a big part even in Nick's last case in T&T, and the next case he took (that we know of) she was nowhere to be seen and what happened? He lost his badge! I bet if she was there she would have smelled a rat with that diary page and would have been clever enough to figure out people were out to get Phoenix! In fact I bet Pearl's abilities don't stop there! In JFA her abilities already seemed to be on a par with Maya's, so who knows what she's capable of nearly a decade later! Maybe whatever she can do now will take the form of some new minigame to replace Psyche Locks/Perceive System/Logic Chess. Although on the other hand, her outfit suggests she may have been gone from Kurain for a while so maybe not....
* This new girl has blue eyes. Pearl has brown.
** It's been made pretty clear that they just don't care about consistent eye colours. Phoenix's eye's have been shown as blue on several posters (though none for AA5) but always appear dark in the games.
* Jossed. The trailer states that she's a new character, Athena Cykes.
** Plus, Pearl appears in-game, with an appearance of being a teenager.

[[WMG: Edgeworth will either only make a brief cameo appearance in Ace Attorney 5 or won't appear at all]]
He played important parts in all three of Phoenix's games, and now has his own trilogy which Phoenix doesn't get any speaking parts in at all. This means that until PLvsAA and AA5 come out he's actually appeared in more games than Phoenix (Edgeworth: PW:AA, JFA, T&T, AAI, AAI 2 / Phoenix: PW:AA, JFA, T&T, AJ:AA)AAI 2 may miraculously be coming to the UK and USA after all, and there's a fairly decent chance there will be a third AAI game, so quite simply, to put him in a prominent role in AA5 as well as any sequels would simply be overusing him. Besides, if there is a third AAI game it'll probably be set less that a year after AAI 2, seeing as AAI 2 starts less than 2 weeks after AAI, so Edgeworth appearing in a game set years later would be like a spoiler, or if not it'd just be weird alternating back and forth between younger Edgeworth and older Edgeworth in a way that could be avoided if him and Phoenix just each keep to their separate series.
* Jossed. Edgeworth's back with a spiffy new coat and glasses, and it looks like we'll be facing him in court.

[[WMG: The new assistant in Gyakuten Saiban 5 is Phoenix's understudy]]
* She doesn't look too much like Trucy or Pearl to me, so she's probably a new character.
** [[IKnewIt Confirmed in the latest trailer.]]

[[WMG: The reason Apollo is nowhere to be seen so far is that not much else has actually changed...]]
Apollo is still a lawyer, Trucy is still his sidekick, Klavier and Ema are still around but they're all part of their own AA story now! They will continue to repeatedly turn up in each others cases by the same ContrivedCoincidence system that we all learned to overlook in the VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightTrilogy. Meanwhile, Phoenix is a lawyer again, he has a new assistant (probably either Pearl or an understudy, either way she's obviously gonna be following Phoenix around for quite a while), theres probably a new cocky young prosecutor waiting to become Phoenix's new rival, Gumshoe is probably still around, and so what we have are two separate casts who are gonna have their own series of games. Maybe the next game after this will be centered on Apollo's world (and maybe won't take another 5-6 years after the last main entry) and the only connection the two casts will have in the future is the occasional crossover in a cameo appearance for a little fan-pleasing, or of course more prominently for the joining of forces for a big fat dramatic finale. And as for the Judge? Yeah, he gets around, he may well be present in both. Or maybe his brother will return.
* Actually, Apollo is playable in Case 2, so semi-Jossed.

[[WMG: There will be some changes to the font and the beepy talking sound]]
It's confirmed for a western release and with it being the first AA game on the 3DS, this troper speculates a slightly nicer-looking font and a slightly different (and nicer-sounding) talking noise.
* Half-confirmed - there is a new font.

[[WMG: The new girl is Manfred von Karma's unnamed granddaughter]]
Below, someone mentioned his unnamed granddaughter with the dog named Phoenix (confirmed by WordOfGod to actually exist and not because von Karma wanted to make fun of Phoenix) becoming a prosecutor who's a Phoenix fangirl. Here's a slight spin on things: like Apollo, she admired Wright as a child and soon became his {{Fangirl}}. She's apparently around Pearl's age in the PW trilogy, which would make her around 17 now, fitting in with the teenage sidekicks. Also, she's described as having a strong drive to win, a more healthy version of Manfred and Franziska's drive for perfection. Perhaps she went to law school to try and become a defense attorney like her admirer Wright (and maybe face Franziska and (presumably) Edgeworth in court someday or something) and ended up being mentored by Wright? ...[[RuleOfCool Pretty please Capcom?]]
** {{Jossed}}, the new character is Phoenix's understudy, Athena Cykes. And yes, I did just Joss my own theory.
** How? If she's Franziska's sister's daughter, then she could very well be von Karma's granddaughter.
*** This would imply that Metis Cykes is the daughter of Manfred von Karma, and, as we all know, evidence is everything in court and semi-serious WMG.

[[WMG: AA5 takes place after AA4. Phoenix's ability to return to his profession and Maya's absence have the same reason, tied to a TomatoSurprise.]]
Phoenix was able to be a lawyer again by exploiting a legal loophole. He could never be a lawyer again for the rest of his life. Phoenix Wright is dead, and Maya is channeling him. The TomatoSurprise part is that multiple characters know that he confirmably died, and, without outright stating that fact, wonder if a mistake was made or if something else strange happened.
* Jossed

[[WMG: Phoenix Wright, now channeled by Maya Fey, was murdered for his involvement in legal system reforms.]]
Addition to the previous WMG: at the end of AA4, Phoenix began the reversal of the changes to the legal system that were designed to speed cases through the courts and enforced a guilty-until-proven-innocent mentality. There are forces who prefer and perhaps caused this, and they dealt with Phoenix. Maya is risking her life by channeling Phoenix and enabling him to finish what he started. She even bought a suit tailored to his measurements and had her hair cut to match his own (since a Kurain medium's clothes and hair don't change when channeling someone).
* Jossed. Maya is alive, having sent Phoenix a letter and is scheduled to visit, as Pearl says in TheStinger, so she can't be channeling Phoenix.

[[WMG: Someone close to Phoenix is dead.]]
A big deal is being made over this game having a darker tone. The first case is about a bomb in a courtroom which surely would entail a higher body count than usual (since it's usually just one) and that's just the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if another aspect is that changes have been made to the courts to possibly make them even more harsh, as Phoenix himself said in AJ:AA that a dark time for them is coming. But really, how much 'darkness' can come out of that? The aim of the game is always to win the case (I know, there's an exception to that but shut up!) so if Phoenix is still managing that (and by now he must be savvy to the fact that if his client is innocent, he WILL win in the end) then how dark can it be? If times are really difficult for Phoenix, and he's in a properly bad place, I'd guess that either an established character from his trilogy or someone else he knew closely is dead.
* Doesn't seem like it. Apollo's still there, Trucy's around, Edgeworth's back.
** Maya isn't.
** Maya sends Phoenix a letter and is planning on visiting Phoenix, so that's Jossed.

[[WMG: Phoenix's locket will be a ChekhovsGun]]
Because they don't add it to his design for nothing. WMG above predicting about Phoenix being a murder victim (or at least seems to be victim). The locket is placed on his left pocket, right in front of the heart. So maybe, if someone tried to shoot him, it'll be crucial in some way.
* Jossed.

[[WMG: The culprit of the bombing is either Winston Payne's [[RememberTheNewGuy newly introduced brother]] or Payne himself]]
Revealed screenshots of the case show [[http://images.wikia.com/aceattorney/images/e/e4/Postgallery-5.jpeg this]] image of the MadBomber behind the incident. Although half their face his covered by a [[BuffySpeak weird helmet-thing]], it's pretty clear they're an older male. (Well, they're ''definately'' not your client, that's for sure) But just look at the grin. Doesn't it look 'Payne-ish' to you? Furthermore, it's also stated that Payne's brother is [[KnightOfCerebus considerably more villainous]] that Payne was, and isn't afraid to use [[AmoralAttorney dirty tactics.]] Considering what lengths other [[AmoralAttorney Amoral Attorneys in the series have gone to,]] bombing doesn't seem out of the question. And plus, how much of a shake-up would it be to have 'the prosecutor did it' in ''the very first case''!
** {{Jossed}}, ''probably''. The new trailer indicates this character as Ted Tonate, and doesn't even ''attempt'' to hide his suspiciousness, so he's probably just as much of a BadLiar as Sawhit. (That and the last chartacter who appeared in a trailer like this Portsman did indeed turn out to be guilty) There's still room to believe the bombing was masterminded by someone else though.
*** Tonate isn't the bomber either. It's Phantom, who is most likely not either of the Paynes.

[[WMG:Related to this, the antagonists of the game are a terrorist organization comprised of legal professionals opposing the changes to the legal system AJ brought]]
Well, they did say "dark days are coming for the legal system." It kinda makes sense, and it would be a nice call back to the smuggling ring in the first ''Investigations.'' For bonus points, Kristoph had connections with the group, which relates to his black Psyche-Locks. Or maybe they're his followers acting under some kind of 'if anything happens to me' failsafe plan. Perhaps his GambitSpeedChess with Wright is still going...
* Considering the people who watched (and attempted to assassinate) the Phantom, this is most likely confirmed.

[[WMG:Yumihiko Ichiyanagi/Sebastian Debeste will return]]
But grown-up and [[TookALevelInBadass Taken A Level In Badass]] as a serious prosecutor, possibly even a legitimate rival to Apollo. Though he'll keep some of his goofiness and his musical theme to the point of still annoying the Judge and Phoenix. (Alternatively, he'll get on ''really well'' with the Judge, they're both prone to InsaneTrollLogic theories, after all.) English fans will wonder who the hell he is, and it'll eventually cause a case of MarthDebutedInSmashBros.
** {{Jossed}}. Yumihiko does not make an appearance in this game at any point.

[[WMG: Athena is from Germany in Localization]]
* Actually, considering her name, she might be from Greece.
* Jossed. As a child, she lived in the GYAXA space station in Los Angeles. She is confirmed to have studied in Europe, however, so it's entirely possible that she trained as a laywer in Germany.

[[WMG: Kristoph will be a ChekhovsGunman in this game]]
Shortened version of my previous WMG here. It would make sense, after all.
* Unless he's Phantom, Jossed.

[[WMG: Phoenix is still close to Miles Edgeworth and possibly sharing his closet]]
I mean, come on...look at what he's wearing [[http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/starpiper/938433/47301/47301_original.jpg in Gyakuten Saiban 5]] and compare it to [[http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/starpiper/938433/47050/47050_original.jpg Miles Edgeworth's usual getup]]. Add a cravat and palette swap and it's the same outfit!
* Semi-confirmed. They are close enough to go to one of Trucy's magic shows together, and to make their HoYay-section even longer, but no word about their closets.
* It's possible Edgeworth actually got the suit for Phoenix as part of convincing him to come back and put an end to the Dark Age of the Law. Like Phoenix make a joke that he didn't have anything to wear as he got rid of his old suit ages ago, and Edgeworth, since he doesn't get jokes, took him seriously and had his tailor (because he probably has one) make Phoenix a suit. I'm picturing complaining and being stabbed with pins, while Edgeworth sits in a corner being amused and drinking tea. But honestly, the only real difference between Phoenix's two suits is the waistcoat, something that Godot and Apollo also wear. Not just Edgeworth.

[[WMG: During GS/AA5, we'll finally crack Kristoph's Psyche-Locks.]]
* If you thought his breakdown at the end of AJ was epic, he'll have a bigger one here. It won't be broken with a multitude of items, but with a ChekhovsGun
** [[FridgeHorror Yes, but the real question here is]] how much worse and epic can a breakdown get than "a laugh louder than anyone had ever heard...or since. A laugh, which echoed in the halls of justice for what seemed like hours."
** While the idea with Kristoph's is jossed, black Psyche-Locks DO return, and we DO get to crack them.
** It's likely that Kristoph's Psyche-locks already cracked at the end of 4-4, and his breakdown was the result of the "brute force" method Pearl mentioned.

[[WMG: One of the defendants will be the judge, and the judge for his trial will be his brother or someone else]]
Oh, and his full name will finally be revealed.
* Jossed.

[[WMG: The Feys and other characters in the other games will return for the finale]]
* A Tradition of the series that Edgeworth and the Feys will be involved to the final case of the trilogy someway.
** Confirmed, though it's Edgeworth and ''a'' Fey.

[[WMG: Apollo is a victim of the bombing in the first case]]
* As seen in the design.
* I don't know, he seems fine in Case 2 and on the box-art. Then again, Case 2 and other midgame cases could be a flashback.
* Based on the demo, Apollo got the injuries by protecting Juniper from the debris. So confirmed, I guess.
* Jossed actually. It is later revealed he was not injured in the bombing. He is wearing the bandages to suppress his "perceive" ability.
** No, it's confirmed, because Athena has to take the defence's bench in Case 1 because his wounds reopen. She actually notes that he's bleeding through his bandages. So yes, he got badly hurt. The only thing there to suppress his perception is the eyepatch.

[[WMG: Blackquill, the new prosecutor, was wrongfully convicted of murder]]
* With a criminal prosecutor on the scene, it's certain that one of the game's cases will involve looking into the incident that he was accused of. Naturally, he'll turn out to have been framed, or took the fall for someone else.
** Confirmed. He took the fall after Athena supposedly killed her mother.

[[WMG: Kristoph Gavin was Blackquill's attorney during the trial in which he was convicted of murder]]
* ...and this will lead to some bad blood between him and Apollo, given Apollo's past association with Gavin. Given the [[AmoralAttorney kind of person]] Gavin is, it wouldn't be surprising if it turned out he stabbed his client in the back.

[[WMG: Blackquill's trial will form a key part of the plot of the final case.]]
* Come on, the fact that ''he's serving a murder sentence'' '''has''' to be significant to the game's overall plot somehow. I predict thee final case will be made up of equal parts flashbacks to his trial and a new case in the present that turns out to be connected. And if the above WMG about Blackquill being innocent is true, the real killer will be the game's BigBad.
** Confirmed. It's the whole reason behind the final trial.

[[WMG: Fulbright was the killer in Blackquill's case, and will be the BigBad of the game.]]
* Mostly because their names would work well as a DarkIsNotEvil, LightIsNotGood motif. Fulbright will have been ObsfucationStupidity the whole time, and either his "In Justice we trust" CatchPhrase will be bitterly ironic ''or'' take on a twisted meaning as he is revealed to be a ruthless KnightTemplar detective who's willing to forge evidence and tamper with crime scenes to ensure criminals are found guilty... and if all else fails, he takes justice into his own hands and murders them himself.
** Confirmed, for the most part. Though it's not actually Fulbright...

[[WMG: Case 2 is a flashback]]
* Firstly, you're playing as Apollo, so this could be set before Phoenix gets his badge back. Secondly, Apollo still has his old design. Either the case takes place before the explosion, or he recovered ''really'' quickly.
** Confirmed.

[[WMG: Egdeworth will only prosecute in court during flashbacks]]
The brief shot of him in court doesn't seem to show him wearing glasses. He'll still be an important NPC in the present, but you won't go up against him.
* Jossed; Phoenix faces him at one point. Plus, his glasses are in the pocket of his coat.

[[WMG: The events of Gyakuten Kenji 2 prompted Edgeworth to become Chief Prosecutor]]
* Specifically, him finding out about Bansai Ichiyanagi, and him being the Chief Prosecutor who gave von Karma the penalty, thus leading to the DL-6 incident. Now knowing full well the damage an AmoralAttorney in the position can do, Edgeworth was determined to never let that happen again.
** Alternatively, he's pushing for a law that requires all female prosecutors to wear... [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist TINY MINISKIRTS]]!
*** *Cue coma-inducing whipping session from Franziska*

[[WMG: One of the murder victims...]]
* Will be Thalassa/Lamiroir. This is when Phoenix will tell Apollo and Trucy that she was their mother, and they realize they're half-siblings.
** Jossed.

[[WMG: The last case will actually be two cases.]]
* Phoenix and Apollo will both work on separate, seemingly unrelated cases at the same time. As progress is made, it becomes clear that the two cases are closely connected, and the two of them will have to share information with each other in order to solve them.
** Additionally, not only will Edgeworth be involved, but Klavier will come back too, reviving the tradition of a previous prosecutor coming BackForTheFinale from the original trilogy.
** Semi-Confirmed. The last case acts similar to Case 1-4 where both the past case and the present case are solved, in this case the UR-1 incident and the Clay Terran murder and both having the same mastermind no less. Klavier's return as a prosecutor here is jossed though.

[[WMG: Pearl is going to meet Trucy]]
* And then she'll slap the crap out of Phoenix for "having a child with someone who isn't Mystic Maya" only to have everything explained to her afterwards.
** You'd think that they'd have met during the TimeSkip, though.
*** I'm gonna officially Joss this 'un even though most of us know that by now for the sake of pointing out that Pearl actually doesn't seem to think Phoenix and Maya are a thing anymore. Oh, and Pearl's already met Trucy; Phoenix says that Pearls has been like an older sister to Trucy.

[[WMG: Maya's been framed for murder. Again.]]
Because why have Pearl back if you aren't going to invoke the good old "Maya is a defendant" running gag? It's happened in every game with a Fey so far. As a twist, you'll play as Apollo for most of it, possibly because Phoenix can't bring himself to talk to Maya about everything... but in the last bit of the investigation it becomes clear that they need vital evidence out of Maya, and Apollo (along with possibly Trucy, Athena and Pearl) convince Phoenix to talk to Maya, partly to get it out of her and partly because it's most likely a Psyche Lock thing. It also explains why Pearl is at Wright Anything Agency, she'd still remember Nick.

In addition, depending on the point of the game Apollo would be switching assistants. Trucy for one part, Athena for another, Pearl for another. Possibly Athena would only be in the court section, and mid-section swap outs may occur. Possibly included in this is Pearl channeling Mia to comment on Apollo's skills. Oh yes, and for added value, the Prosecutor in this case would most likely be Edgeworth.
* Jossed.

[[WMG: Athena Cykes is evil.]]
Because while it's been an Ace Attorney tradition for the assistant to get accused of murder, it would be a massive twist if the assistant actually WAS guilty of something. Whether as the BigBad, or as an accomplice to the real villain.
* Already happened in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. Specifically, case 1.
** Jossed.

[[WMG:There will be minor SliceOfLife {{DLC}} quests]]
They'll likely be minor things like Phoenix solving petty arguments with a few pieces of evidence.

[[WMG: Apollo's revival]]
It was shown in the last trailer that Apollo left the agency. He will probably have some character developement and then have a great revival a la Franziska Von Karma/Gumshoe and help Phoenix and Athena in Case 4, either bringing new pieces of evidence, a new theory for the case, or even stating who the real culprit is.
* Half-confirmed? He does come into court in Case 5 with a new theory for the case and it is most dramatic, except what he says is beneficial to the ''prosecution'' for a change of flavour and it's actually pretty solid. What he has to say, though, eventually helps Phoenix realise who the real culprit must be and how he escaped. And he does indeed go through character development; not even Edgeworth goes as far as Apollo did to seek the truth.

[[WMG: Simon Blackquill's hawk is...]]
(1) Going to attack Phoenix at some point. It'll either do so in the exact same manner as the hummingbird from Case 2-3 (with much more devastating results), or will serve the same function as Franziska's whip (with much more devastating results).
* Theory 1 semi-confirmed, it does attack phoenix, the results however are unknown as of yet.

(2) Going to be the genesis of a bunch of "Phoenix vs. Hawk" wordplay in the English version.

(3) Going to be used to demonstrate that the prosecutor is not all bad via a few PetTheDog moments.

(4) One of the animals from the local prison as seen in The Imprisoned Turnabout. Though why they thought animal therapy would be usefull for a prisoner on death row is beyond me.

[[WMG: The English voice cast will be terrible.]]
And will prompt a new round of memes due to how bad they are. Or...
* Well we've already heard Phoenix's new voice in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and his Objection in the trailer, and indeed his voice has already divided some fans, with some thinking he now sounds a bit teenager-ish despite being older!
* Well...they're not ''great''...

[[WMG: The English voice cast will be stellar.]]
And will prompt a new round of memes due to how cool they are.

[[WMG: If Kay, Maya, or Franziska return in Dual Destinies...]]
* ...their designs will be loosely based off of their ''[[http://images.wikia.com/aceattorney/images/c/ce/Onimusha_Soul_Kay_4.jpg Onimusha]] [[http://images.wikia.com/aceattorney/images/d/d4/Onimusha_Soul_Maya_4.jpg Soul]]'' [[http://images.wikia.com/aceattorney/images/4/4b/Onimusha_Soul_Franz_4.jpg outfits]].
* In addition, if Kay does appear again, her Little Thief will also be based off of her ''VideoGame/OnimushaSoul'' design, where the Little Thief will now be a sort of [[TrickedOutGloves Tricked Out Glove]].
** Maya did return briefly, but only in a flashback. Jossed.

[[WMG: The original Pursuit - Cornered will be played at one point.]]
* The original Cornered theme has appeared in every main game so far. There's no doubt in my mind that it will play at some point in this game too.
** However, considering this is a 3DS game, it will be the ''VideoGame/ProfessorLaytonVsAceAttorney'' version. Either that, or Phoenix changed his ringtone.
*** Jossed in the main game.

[[WMG: Gaspen Payne's hair will fly off.]]
* ...as a nice CallBack.
** Jossed. He ''does'' have a "freakout", but it's not losing his hair, it's running away from the courtroom.
** Semi-confirmed in ''VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorneySpiritOfJustice''. Gaspen's freakout makes his wig fall from his head, revealing he is bald.

[[WMG: Simon Blackquill...]]
* ...is actually Manfred von Karma in disguise.
** Jossed.

[[WMG: The cases in AA5 do not take place in chronological order.]]
* Since the previews suggest that Apollo got injured in the courtroom bombing in Case 1, and he shows up without the bandages in Case 2, it's highly probable that Case 2 (and possibly Case 3) take place before Case 1.
** Confirmed. Case 2 is the first case chronologically, then Case 3, and Case 1 actually takes place in the middle of Case 4.

[[WMG: The true identity of the Phantom...]]
* Will be revealed along with the identity of his killer/the company he works for in a future Ace Attorney.

[[WMG: The real Bobby Fulbright was a victim of the Phantom. His body [[NeverFoundTheBody was never discovered (possibly disposed) .]]]]
Confirmed, I guess. It was said that he died a year before the events of the case, so...

[[WMG: Daichi Aoi/Clay Terran is one of (if not) the reasons why Apollo became a lawyer.]]
At least somewhat confirmed, Clay was definitely one of there reasons Apollo KEPT Being a lawyer after the events of the first Kristoph Gavin case (4-1).

[[WMG: Ema Skye will return in a DLC case.]]
And she will appear either before or after the revelation that Fulbright is an impostor (though most likely after).

[[WMG:The Phantom is a [[OurDemonsAreDifferent supernatural being [[HumanoidAbomination of some sort]].]]]]
The reason you never see his face is because ''he doesn't have one''-only the masks. If you took them off, you'd find a LivingShadow of some sort.
* Considering the space motifs throughout the latter two cases, what if the Phantom was an actual alien?

[[WMG:The Phantom is Souta Sarushiro/Simon Keyes]]
* This stems from one moment in ''Investigations 2'' Case 5, where Souta manages to mimic Edgeworth ''perfectly'', including his voiced Objection. Maybe this could have been {{Foreshadowing}}? As for the loss of identity, Souta seems like the kind of guy who'd ''want'' to forget [[DarkAndTroubledPast his past. And given his only father figure was an assassin, maybe he decided to become one himself?]]

[[WMG: The localized name of "Turnabout to the Future" (Case 5) is going to be "Turnabout Destinies"]]
* Because it seems an obvious place to add a TitleDrop via {{Woolseyism}}.
* Jossed, it's "Turnabout for Tomorrow".

[[WMG:The Phantom is Calisto Yew/Shih-na]]
* It may seem completely out there, but we never did find out who she truly was, so completely losing her identity might not be hard to imagine and she was already a skilled infiltrator. The body change is dramatic, but considering how some characters transform it's not uncommon.
** If thats the case, then that means Calisto Yew broke out of prison. Though, Im not sure why she would do that, the smuggling ring is dead thanks to the arrest of Quercus Alba... although, now that I think about it, what if it didnt? What if the smuggling ring survived? Sure, Alba and Ernest were arrested and Manny is dead, but if this is correct then Calisto Yew may have broken out of prison, and then, maybe, she took over. Maybe the ring never died. We dont know what organization the Phantom works for. Maybe its the ring? Sure, Zheng Fas President claims that ring died, but what if it just reorganized. Or stop operations for a while. Or left Zheng Fa entirely and thats all the President cares about. Or maybe he doesnt actually know and made the whole event just for publicity. This the same event where he faked an attempt on his life to look powerful. Maybe he pretended the ring dead to look good. Or maybe the President has a part in the ring. Hes not noblest person. Admittedly, I dont know why the smuggling ring would want to sabotage a rocket, but we dont know why the Phantoms organization wanted to begin with. Maybe the ring has connections to private space corporations and GYAXA was a huge threat? Maybe this theoretical private corporation was owned by the Amano group? Maybe they also survived? Sure, we ''assume'' that they dissolved after Ernest Amano was tried, but we have no evidence. Or hell, ''even if'' the smuggling ring ''is'' dead, that doesnt mean the Calisto Yew is out of a job. Maybe the Phantom is actually like de Killer, but instead of being an assassin for hire, the Phantom is a spy for hire, and the Phantom works for multiple organizations. And looping back to the first statement, if this theory is true, then Calisto/the Phantom broke out of before, whose to say they wont do it again?

[[WMG:The Phantom is from/working for the same foreign country from ''VideoGame/GhostTrick''.]]
* In Ghost Trick, it was shown just how far the country was willing to go to in order for them to get the Temsik meteor and the Ghost powers, so it's not that hard to imagine them sabotaging another nation's space program for their own needs. It has been previously confirmed by WordOfGod that both franchises are in the same universe, so you'd only have to imagine the blue skin was merely GT's artistic license and not how they truly looked. Phantom's realistic and numerous masks also fits in with their odd technology: advanced, but a bit off.

[[WMG:Ted Tonate's full name.]]
* We never hear anything about the character's middle name. While his name as given is already a PunnyName on "detonate", there's even more opportunity there. Simply put, his middle initial HAS to be N, [[FunWithAcronyms so that his initials spell out TNT.]]
** Maybe it's "Nigel" to be a play on "Nitro" as in nitro(glycerine).

[[WMG: Bobby Fulbright isn't dead.]]
He was just in a coma but Edgeworth had to lie about this to protect him as a witness. He'll return in a future game as a bitter, cynical badass detective with a new identity, much like Godot from Trials and Tribulations. The 'new' Bobby's main goal is vengeance against the organization that stole his life.
* Bonus points if his face has been disfigured in some way.
** Even better-when the lawyers figure out that he's the real Fulbright, his first few lines after he drops the "Noir" act will be "In justice...WE TRUST!" Major Crowning Moment potential there.
*** Messed-up idea -- he wasn't in a coma, he was in a mental institution. The Phantom failed in trying to kill him, but messed up his face well enough that when Bobby tried to tell people he was the real deal and the Phantom was just an impostor, no one believed him.
** Would clear up a major contradiction in Turnbabout for Tommorrow. If the real Fulbright died a year ago why is his corpse in good enough condition to be printed. If he was prints when the body was discovered why did the Phahtom's impersonation scheme work at all? Surely the police would notice one of their officers prints showing up on a corpse. The only logical explanation is the second one. Fulbright is heavily scarred, and comatose/"legally dead" and will awaken when it's convenient for the writers.
** It IS rather suspicious that they never printed the comatose Fulbright, who would have been a John Doe during his stay at the hospital. If they'd printed him or even run a DNA test to see if they could identify him, they would have gotten an answer right away because Fulbright is in the police database. It's also very suspicious that they just happened to find his corpse when it was convenient, and instead of relying on DNA which is the logical thing to do to a year old corpse, they chose to get it's prints. Which means that both of these situations seem rather unlikely. This would imply that the real Fulbright is most likely not only ''alive'', but fully concious and active. It's possible that he hid his identity, or perhaps mostly lost it, for that year's time before he went to the police department on hearing that the Phantom was in trial and announced who he really is. Fulbright would have appeared on television during Cases 4 and 5, because the bombing of the Cosmos Space Centre was possibly covered by the media, and we can see media members during Case 5's hostage situation. If the real Fulbright didn't die but lost his identity, he might have realised what had happened and who he really was on seeing the Phantom on the telly. It's possible that Edgeworth was using ExactWords at the time, and Fulbright, the real one, believes ThatManIsDead.
*** I'm calling it. Bobby Fulbright was "declared dead" and was placed under witness protection and will appear as a witness in Supreme Court testifying against the Phantom for War Crimes.
[[WMG: The next game will deal with the fallout from Phantom's case and confessions, and it will ''not'' be pretty]]
Phantom himself mentions (while still in disguise) that the Phantom has sensitive, important, and most of all ''risky'' information and intel on several organizations, corporations, and even whole countries. Now that he knows they're literally gunning for him, he has no reason not to spill the beans on everything and everyone. The amount of court cases this'll start is gonna be staggering, the stakes will be just as big, and our cast is going to be smack dab in the middle of it all. The [[VisualNovel/AceAttorneyInvestigationsMilesEdgeworth Zheng Fa plot pales in comparison to what could happen here. With this, and the dark age of the law not yet over, our lawyers are gonna have their hands full.]]

[[WMG: Aura Blackquill's kidnapping scheme was planned well in advance, and Edgeworth was in on it/knew about it.]]
Consider this WMG one massive spoiler.
Let's consider the facts. It was clear from the very beginning of the game that Phoenix and Edgeworth had some sort of plan to bring an end to the dark age of the law. We learn, in game, that the dark age was caused by distrust of the legal system brought about by two cases- Wright's fateful case 8 years ago that got him disbarred, and Metis Cykes murder trial, in which a prosecutor confessed to the crimes. Since then, Wright went on a secret mission and investigated his own case, eventually clearing his name and revealing in a high profile trial that he had been framed for the forgery. The second case was Blackquill's, and it's already heavily hinted at that both Edgeworth and Phoenix intend to prove Blackquill's innocence from the start. However, there's one thing that comes very close to ruining this plan once and for all- Blackquill's execution. With Wright, it was very clear that he didn't already know the date of Blackquill's execution. That doesn't raise any contradictions, because in his mind, there was never any danger that Blackquill wouldn't be retried and exonerated. However, Edgeworth, being both the Chief Prosecutor and no doubt keeping a close watch over Blackquill given his intentions, would've had to have known the date of Blackquill's execution. This would pose serious problems, because not only was Blackquill going to be put on trial again to exonerate him, but he was also concealing valuable information regarding the crime because he was afraid it would lead to Athena being found guilty for her mother's death.
Edgeworth had to have realized that, for him to be innocent, he must've been hiding something, so even if Edgeworth managed to pull something like accuse Athena for her mother's murder in his stead, Blackquill's death would mean the loss of that information. In other words, Edgeworth would've had a lot to lose if Blackquill's execution went through as planned. Moreover, I don't believe Edgeworth is the kind of person who would let an innocent person get executed if he could help it.
That being said, opening a new trial for Blackquill was very difficult, given the lack of new information and evidence regarding the case. Even being the Chief Prosecutor, it would still be practically impossible for Edgeworth to reopen the case without a good reason. Now, let's skip to the kidnapping, as well as Aura's side of things. First off, I highly doubt Clonco and the rest of the robots at the space center had programs in place allowing them to grab people and/or corral them for kidnapping purposes. Even assuming they can be remotely controlled via the main computer where their memories and personalities are stored, I still think Aura would've had to either practice controlling multiple robots simultaneously or otherwise have written ahead of time a special program to make them kidnap the Space Center's guests. On top of that, the way she talks to Simon in the detention center heavily implies that she came here to convince Simon to tell the truth, and she outright states that she has another plan up her sleeve when he refuses. The way she said this made it sound like she had been planning it for a while, and just wanted to wait until the last minute in case she could talk some sense into him first. Then when she kidnaps everyone, the whole retrial of the UR-1 incident is simply allowed. There's no resistance, and no one tries to send the police in to take control of the situation, as if someone from a high position authorized the retrial without a second thought.
On top of that, notice something interesting? Aura requests/demands Edgeworth of all people to serve as the prosecutor on the case. That's strange. First of all, with the dialogue in the games, it's heavily implied that Edgeworth, as the Chief Prosecutor, usually doesn't prosecute cases. Okay, so Aura simply went for the person on top, right? Well, that doesn't fit either. Even if she had heard of Edgeworth's reputation, demanding that the Chief Prosecutor act as the prosecutor of a case she's forcing them to retry seems a bit bold, even for a woman who thinks she has the situation under control. It would be safer for her to pick another prosecutor she knows is experienced, and considering her brother's a prosecutor, there was probably someone else she knew that she could trust to prosecute the case.
Also, consider when Aura first kidnaps everyone. Wright seems to catch on right away to who's behind it and what she wants. Sure, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that Aura was the one behind the robots going crazy, and it's not out of the question that Wright worked everything out from there, but notice how it's Wright to suggest a retrial. Wright is a defense attorney, and he wouldn't have the power or influence needed to authorize such a thing. It could make sense that he'd suggest such a thing to her, considering retrying Blackquill was part of his and Edgeworth's plan all along, but Trucy has been taken captive and Aura initially demands the police to bring her Athena, one of his subordinates, who she openly dislikes to force her to confess (I doubt she'd kill her, because this plan is to save Simon, and killing Athena wouldn't outright accomplish that). I don't think Wright would outright offer such a thing if he had no way of knowing if the police would actually go through with it. After all, making such a suggestion only for the police to shoot it down would outrage Aura and she'd likely turn her anger on the person closest to Wright, i.e. Trucy. Wright cares far too much for Trucy to put her on the line like that without good reason. Perhaps he already knew that Edgeworth would allow a retrial of Blackquill's case, even given the situation.
What do all these things mean? Edgeworth had to have known about Aura's kidnapping scheme. Edgeworth knew that when Simon Blackquill was to be executed, yet instead of seeming panicked or pressed to come up with a reason to retry the UR-1 case, he's simply talking with Wright about Athena and telling him their plan to end the dark age of the law is drawing near (evident by Wright's dialogue in the opening of the game). Picture this scenario.
Edgeworth does research into the UR-1 incident and finds some inconsistencies in the evidence. He realizes Blackquill is innocent and is taking the fall for Athena, and begins coming up with a plan to exonerate him and bring an end to the dark age of the law. At this point, he likely belives that Athena is the real killer, which would explain Blackquill's confession and works with the evidence revealed thus far. He contacts Wright and convinces him to go study abroad (after all, how would Wright get the money to visit Europe otherwise?) sending him to a place where he was bound to run into Athena. Edgeworth knew Wright would find Athena and see the potential in her as a lawyer, bringing her back to the states where he could keep closer tabs on her. On top of that, it was entirely possible he either knew about her powers, or otherwise interpreted her testimony in that trial as her attempt to prevent the blame from falling on him, while also not outright confessing that she had been the one to murder her own mother. Either way, he believes that she would either help pry the truth from Simon and wind up unintentionally implicating herself as the murderer (which she actually winds up doing for a short time) or otherwise confessing to save Simon's life.
With Wright en route to find Athena (who is, in his mind, the real culprit), Edgeworth turns his attention to the retrial itself. Sure, Edgeworth could easily reveal the inconsistencies with the information at that point, but there was still no way the courts would actually retry the case unless new evidence was presented. That's when he notices a certain Aura Blackquill desperate to get the courts to retry the case even now- constantly filing for her brother's appeal. It's at this point that Edgeworth talks to Aura. Either he plants the idea in Aura's mind to take matters into her own hands, or otherwise realizes that Aura is desperate enough to resort to drastic measures. He gives her a push, perhaps showing her evidence or otherwise agrees with her that Athena is the true culprit, ensuring that she will do something about the retrial. Perhaps he hopes that she will present new evidence or otherwise come up with a better way to ensure a retrial, but either way he realizes that, one way or another, she will do something to ensure the UR-1 incident is retried.
Edgeworth talks to Wright on the matter, claiming that the matter of the retrial of the UR-1 case has already been taken care of, and will come soon enough. Wright, not knowing Blackquill's execution date, isn't even remotely worried come the day before his execution. Once Aura talks to Blackquill in the detention center, however, Wright begins to work out what she means. There is no tomorrow. Blackquill's execution is happening VERY SOON. When Wright discovers that the Space Center visitors have been taken hostage, he realizes that Edgeworth probably had something to do with it. He might have even thought that the kidnapping was faked. Either way, he realizes that this is their chance to put that plan into action, and suggests to Aura the retrial of Simon Blackquill. Realizing that the Chief Prosecutor himself believes Athena is the true culprit and that Blackquill is innocent, she accepts, knowing he'll pull the strings needed to authorize such a retrial. Furthermore, knowing he shares her viewpoint, she demands Edgeworth to act as the prosecution for the case, something Edgeworth readily agrees to.
This is why both Wright and Edgeworth were quick to forgive Aura for her extreme measures, and why Blackquill himself went to the Wright Anything Agency to request a defense for his sister. Because not only did both Wright and Edgeworth benefit from her actions, but in some way or another, Edgeworth was responsible for her decision.

[[WMG: The organization that hired the Phantom is...]]
* Probably the government of the in-game equivalent of the USSR. Maybe in Phoenix's universe, the cold war never ended and both countries are still bitterly locked in the space race.

[[WMG: The case of State vs. Blackquill was rigged]]
All they would have had to do was look back in the footage to find that someone else was at the crime scene, and therefore a whole other suspect for Metis's murder. That's too obvious an oversight for neither defense nor prosecution to notice.

Now, the prosecution not mentioning it can easily be explained by saying they had a similar philosophy as Von Karma: they did notice and said nothing because it would hurt their case. However, why wouldn't the defense bring it up? Because they wanted to lose. The attorney was a plant from the same country as the Phantom. After all, there's precedence for people sneaking into the field with Calisto Yew.

[[WMG: As an addition to the idea above, the whole court system is being manipulated... by Kristoph Gavin.]]
Oh, and in the greatest DoubleSubversion this series has ever seen, the Phantom is HiddenInPlainSight... HE REALLY IS Detective Fullbright!
Think about it. Why would such a [[ImplacableMan agent like the Phantom, (or whoever employs him) [[KillAndReplace kill Fullbright]] but not cut his fingerprints off after wending his life? BECAUSE THE BODY WAS DESIGNED TO BE FOUND. Who would find it? A person in the court system, who could hide it from public knowledge until [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness Fulbright needed to be silenced]]. It's easy enough to fake fingerprints if you can make full-scale face masks that look real. [[WMG/PoisonOakEpilepticTrees Ema Skye could have been killed for finding out!]] [[TheChessmaster He got Phoenix convicted on trumped-up charges caused by conspiracy, he has black Psyche-locks, and has demonstrated unparalleled manipulation of the system. Your Honor, I submit that Kristoph Gavin has been using the whole court system, slowly, to get his way and provide his own warped sense of 'Justice' to the proceedings, and that he is , in fact, a fellow conspirator, and probably the attorney behind Fullbright's conviction.]]]]

[[WMG: [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot To combine the two WMGS above...]] Kristoph is the Phantom (or at least, one of his personas).]]
It lines up too well. The Phantom was injured on his right hand 7 years ago. Kristoph has a scar that makes a Devil's face ''on the same exact hand''. Kristoph's demeanor on the stand pre-breakdown looks eerily emotionless and if we had the Mood Matrix at this point, all of the indicators would be barely on or not reacting at all. It also explains the Black Psyche Locks post ''Dual Destinies'': The Phantom lost his identity so long ago and Phoenix couldn't break them because he wasn't speaking to the ''real'' Kristoph.
* '''''OBJECTION!''''' I'll admit: it's a fun theory, and I even considered it myself. Trouble is, the timing just doesn't add up. Kristoph already had his scar when he visited the Mishams to commission the evidence forgery, which is when the young Vera Misham witnessed the "devil face". By the time of ''Dual Destinies'', that event happened '''''8''''' years ago. The Phantom murdered Metis Cykes and got stabbed through the hand '''''7''''' years prior to ''Dual Destinies'', or one year after the forgery. In short, Kristoph's scar predates the Phantom's hand injury, and the two are unrelated.

[[WMG: Gumshoe ''and'' Ema will be back in Ace Attorney 6.]]
Similar to how AA5 brought Phoenix back to the defense bench while simultaneously keeping Apollo there, it's possible we can have more than one detective, too. Of course, with Fulbright out of the picture, they'd need to introduce one more detective to keep with the RuleOfThree. A member of his family, perhaps?

[[WMG: The Phantom is [[Franchise/CthulhuMythos Nyarlathotep.]]]]
He has no identity or real face because he's an Outer God. May also explain how he messed up the mood matrix so badly- [[YouCannotGraspTheTrueForm it couldn't comprehend such alien emotions.]] Of course, the biggest clue is having so many masks that the true face will never be found. Given this, maybe the Ace Attorney universe should watch their back- all of this was, of course, in line with Nyarlathotep's ultimate plan- whatever that may be.

[[WMG: Robin Newman is male-to-female.]]
In other words, Robin was biologically male and as such was assigned male by default. At some point in her life, she discovered that she aligned more as female than male, and may have ''possibly'' undergone reassignment surgery, hence the brace and her noticable chest curves when the brace comes off, but her parents did not approve of this and forced her to continue living as a male.
* This would explain why she takes on some female stereotypes after her gender is revealed. She suddenly starts spelling out words and acronyms (O-M-G, e.g.), spinning and squeeing, and constantly posing at angles that show off her curves. This behavior bothered me at first because she was suddenly acting like a shallow girly-girl, but ''that's the point.'' She misguidedly thinks that a) she has to be feminine, and b) this is how to do it. Alternatively, she's just had to bottle up her femininity for so long that she now unintentionally expresses it in an over-the-top way.

[[WMG: Simon Blackquill is the [[Manga/SaintSeiya Capricorn Gold Saint]] of the second quarter of the 21st century.]]
His ability to perform iaijutsu bare-handed is due to having the sacred sword Excalibur in his arm. He only uses a few fingers for his "demonstrations" as using his entire hand would enable him to concentrate enough Cosmo to cut the courthouse in half.

[[WMG: The Phantom is [[VideoGame/GhostTrick Yomiel]].]]
The events of Dual Destinies happened during the timeline where Yomiel never redeemed himself. During his quest for revenge, he became a spy in hopes of finding more victims. However, in time, he became so versed in his disguises that he forgot his revenge, his emotions, and eventually, his own identity. Plus, who wouldn't want an immortal man with the ability to manipulate living things and objects to be their spy?
* '''''OBJECTION!''''' Why would Yomiel go out of his way to disguise himself as his target when he could just [[PeoplePuppets possess them directly]]? The defense concedes that the Phantom's abilities could have something to do with Temsik, but Yomiel's powers go way beyond simple disguises.
* '''''OBJECTION!''''' The possibility remains that he could have killed Bobby Fulbright, which he would be unable to correct by rewinding time. Thus, his only option would be to disguise himself as the target.

[[WMG: Apollo's bracelet is made of Moon Rock itself.]]
Several times in 5-4, it's mentioned that the Moon Rock that was being researched could change the course of civilization all by itself. Although it's never mentioned ''how'', it's interesting that Metis Cykes, a psychologist, was one of those researchers. Meaning that the Moon Rock's qualities might affect the qualities of human mental abilities in a positive fashion (which isn't exactly unprecedented; see the meteor-forged Arrows from ''Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure''). While the Moon Rock we see is a melange of black and yellow, it's not too far-fetched to imagine that any piece of Moon Rock that the bracelet might have been forged from was mostly yellow-ish, rather like Athena's earring. Thus, Apollo's bracelet might already be an example of how Moon Rock's boons might work, assisting human empathetic awareness. And whoever the phantom's employers are would like the Moon Rock's powers all to themselves, thus giving them a motive to sabotage the HAT projects.
* There's a problem with this, though. Zak calls Apollo's bracelet a family heirloom, which would imply it's pretty darn old. Likely older than Magnifi at least, and there's not a piece of moon rock on earth that is from that time.
** At least, nothing that's yet been positively identified as any specific mineral...
** An 'heirloom' doesn't have a set amount of generations as criteria. It could've started from Magnifi Gramarye, who was born in 1952, which means he grew up during the Space Race (1955-1972). Or even better, it started out as a chunk of moon rock, which he then had carved into bracelets, which he then gave to Thalassa, and so on.

[[WMG: In the original GBA series, Ema would have been a defense attorney]]
Spoiler to Dual Destinies.

The difference between the DS remake and GBA is that Phoenix defends Lana. Now, what if he didn't? Lana would have been found guilty since she admitted to the murder, but Ema wouldn't believe it. Ema would then change her career path into a defense attorney instead to save her.

It would be very much like Dual Destinies plot. There are many similarities :
* Sibling(-like) relationship : Simon-Athena, Lana-Ema
* The prosecutor takes the blame for someone else : Lana and Simon
* The plucky teenage girl with gadget and special skills : Athena with her widget and hearing skills, Ema with her forensic toolkit and investigating skills.

TL, DR. Without Rise from the Ashes, Ema would have been a defense attorney.

[[WMG: In a future game, Apollo and maybe Pearl would get framed for murder, or become victims of attempted murder]]
Well between Apollo's ButtMonkey status, Phoenix's disbarment and Athena being framed for murder, it seems likely that Apollo would wind up in the defendant role soon. Pearl is also close to Phoenix and unlike her sister Mia, has nothing stopping her from helping with his cases, in fact it's possible that she might follow in Mia's footsteps and join the Wright Anything Agency.

As for who would go after those two: Well for starters, Phoenix Wright had already successfully defended multiple people and recently foiled the Phantom's plot. But someone had to hire him in the first place. With Pearl and Apollo out of the way, that only leaves Phoenix's finitely-powered magmatama and Athena's Mood Matrix, Once that magmatama dries up, It falls back to Athena...

As for why? [[WatsonianVersusDoylist Besides the devs finally making Apollo the defendant,]] Athena was the defendant of the last case of Dual Destinies, and it was revealed that her earring is made of the moon rock. With Apollo and Pearl in prison or worse and Phoenix powerless, all it would take is separating the two and stealing the earring and that rock is theirs.
* If I follow correctly (and this is an idea I've kicked around in my head for the sake of something I'm working on), it's possible Apollo being accused of murder and Pearls nearly being murdered could happen at once, where the attempted murderer disguises himself as Apollo as perfectly as the Phantom did of Fulbright, and intentionally doesn't kill Pearls, but simply hospitalises her, making her accuse Apollo of trying to murder her since that's who she's beyond certain she saw and heard. Intentionally leave her alive to pin the blame on him. It would be quicker and easier to ''break'' the Magatama than wait for it to dry up, since it took about a decade for it to run out of energy initially. After all, Phoenix wouldn't be adverse to lending the Magatama to Apollo, especially since Apollo's special ability is by far the easiest to foil by simply fidgeting on purpose. And the fact that none of them sense someone is lying at the same time (in other words, they never see a Psyche-Lock, a nervous tell, or hear an out-of-place emotion at the same time). All the culprit would have to do is continue to pose as Apollo, request the Magatama's use for the day, and then take Pearls with him as his investigative partner for his case before staging her attempted murder and destroying the Magatama. All the culprit would have to do is make sure Pearls can articulate what happened.

[[WMG: Phantom's employers set him up for [[UriahGambit the fall]]]]
Their goal was to send a spy to sabotage the HAT-1 right, but the spy failed. [[YouHaveFailedMe His employers were mad]] and decided to pull a BatmanGambit, knowing that the moon rock had his blood, they hired him to erase the evidence and try to get the witness imprisoned. Phantom spent the next seven years looking for Athena as the Hope Capsule would not return until then.

In the meantime, he decided to keep an eye on his unintentional decoy Simon Blackquill, Taking many identities in the process including Bobby Fulbright's but You likely know that. However during the case before Simon's execution, his employers hired assassins to off the phantom both because of revenge for failing to stop the HAT-1 and [[HeKnowsTooMuch because he has knowledge they would rather keep secret]]. However the phantom as shown in his testimony, knew that his employers sent him on a UriahGambit, but kept his cool until his "identity" was revealed at which point the assassin shot him [[VillainousBreakdown at his most vulnerable point]]. 457
[[WMG: The Phantom's true identity is Yumihiko's/Sebastian's long, lost mom.]]
She was never killed by Bansai/Blaise like everyone assumed she was. After disappearing, she became the Phantom and slowly lost her sense of identity with the explanation on how this even happened being explained in a later game.
* Or perhaps she's Calisto Yew/Shih-Na, whose age we don't know for certain. Unless Calisto/Shih-Na are also both the Phantom.

[[WMG: Juniper Woods and Apollo Justice will eventually become a canon pairing and get married.]]
I am basing this solely on the [[AddedAlliterativeAppeal Added Alliterative Appeal]] of "Judge Juniper Justice."

[[WMG: In the 6th game you will defend Maya Fey's father.]]
This one's reaching a bit since Maya Fey's father is supposedly dead, but as Godot said, death means nothing in the courtroom. You receive the letter from Maya saying she will visit in case 5, and after the credits Simon Blackquill is in the office and talks to someone who wants Wright Anything Agency to defend their father.
* Considering that he's dead, maybe it'll be found out that he was murdered, and that mystery needs to be solved in conjuncture with another case.

[[WMG: Both Tenma Town and Nine-Tails Vale were founded by rejected Spirit Mediums.]]
We see that mountain ranges are integral to spirit medium societies, since both the Kurain Village and Hazakura Temple are located in the mountains, and both have strong, traditional Japanese influences. You can see that Nine-Tails Vale is located in the mountains as well, and likewise has Japanese influences, and the same applies to Tenma Town (considering that youkai are common knowledge in that town as well and that Tenma Town is supposed to be near Nine-Tails Vale). We can guess that the spirit mediums come from the mountains of Japan, considering the common points between the two locations we associate with them, and that they immigrated to the mountains in California instead at some point for some reason. Perhaps the two towns in this game were founded by similar people, but instead by those who ''lack'' spiritual powers? The daughters born who don't have powers or whose powers are weak, the sons and husbands who don't have power by virtue of being men. When they came to America, they sought to maintain the same atmosphere in case a medium was born to the family, but eventually, the spiritual powers dried up and the two towns became what they are now, or just wanted to keep things familiar. Presumably if a medium IS somehow born, they are instead sent to the Kurain Village.

[[WMG: Juniper's IncurableCoughOfDeath is aggravated by smog.]]
Is this an obvious WMG? Whatever. Juniper is said to live in a mountainside forest, presumably with no neighbours, and thus has thoroughly clean, clear air with nobody to fuck it up. In town, however, the air is rife with smog and smoke and whatever else. This is why she acts more frail in the first case than the third, because she has so much dust and smoke in her normally pure lungs from the bombing the day before. When she gets upset, she breathes in slow, tiny breaths, drawing in more of the bad air and thus, activating her coughing fits by drawing in more of it per minute than she would taking deep breaths (due to a longer exhale time).
* To narrow it down, she probably has plain old asthma, which (as this asthmatic troper can attest) can definitely be aggravated by both smog and emotional distress. She even uses her sunflower as an impromptu inhaler.
** I don't think she has asthma, exactly. I think she's so used to such good, clean, clear air that the smog-filled air of the city has an affect on her, with similar affects to asthma. I used to know someone who moved to our area from a relatively clean, clear area where she had pretty few neighbours, and she ended up with breathing problems because her lungs weren't used to the smog.
** Why is asthma the go-to for characters like [[VideoGame/ProfessorLaytonAndTheLastSpecter Arianna]], [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Wally]], and Juniper? Like I'd be offended myself, because all these characters are super fragile and frail and can't go outside or do anything, which implies that all asthmatics are that way, and I'm pretty sure that's not the case. But everyone just dismisses this as asthma. Asthma can't be romanticised- there's no mystery to it and it's pretty common. There's nothing "lovely" about occasional breathing problems. This is because it doesn't make you delicate or frail, considering that people who are obese or do sports can likewise have asthma. There's nothing tragic about it. There's nothing to really make you feel total sympathy for a character that has asthma the same way you would if they're dying of a terminal illness, which is why the illnesses are never given. Juniper's [[IncurableCoughOfDeath coughing]] [[SoapOperaDisease is caused by her unnamed illness]], and is not asthma. Unless you want to tell me that being asthmatic makes you unable to go to school or do anything lest your fragile disposition be unable to tolerate even someone talking to you without you falling into an attack, because that's how it's implied to have been for Juniper, since she's already a pretty weak character and Athena talks about how she "didn't even recognise" Juniper because of how much "stronger" she is.

[[WMG: The organisation the Phantom is from is trying to bring down the legal system.]]
And it's really only just begun.
* This WMG has my total support. '''MAJOR''' spoilers, here: The espionage and subterfuge in the international space race was just a red herring, used by the organization to cover the Phantom's tracks. The only reason he targeted the space center at all was to protect his identity, using the excuse for heightened security to provide himself a way into the well-protected center. It was clear he never had any indication of actually stealing the moon rock, since he had to dispose of it in an extremely sloppy way that came back to bite him in the ass. He was only there to kill the person who could potentially identify him, and the only reason he sabotaged the rocket at all was to destroy the moon rock. Of course that failed, so seven years later he had to stage ANOTHER bomb attack for exactly the same reason: to give himself an excuse to be at the center, so he could steal the moon rock back and destroy it, which obviously failed.
* It goes WAY deeper than just the Phantom - the way I see it, his organization isn't trying to bring down the justice system, but ''control it''. The "dark age of the law" was the period in time when this organization - comprised of prosecutors, defense attorneys, cops and even judges - had complete control, using their underhanded tactics to mete out justice the way they saw fit. They used the UR-1 incident to set up a young prosecutor - the Phantom was always going to pin it on Simon. It was a happy accident that the situation worked out to the point where he not only confessed, but refused every attempt to get his conviction overturned.
* If Phoenix Wright had been practicing law at the time, not even a government cover-up and his client claiming he was the murderer would have been enough to keep him from getting to the truth, which is why they had gotten him out of the way first. Bringing in some of the WMG above: Kristoph Gavin was another member of the organization, who framed Phoenix to get him disbarred. With the only man both too stubborn to give up on his clients and too morally upright to be brought into the fold out of the way, they had free reign over the justice system until Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth saw his chance to take them down.
** There's something about Kristoph that makes me wonder, though. I don't think he was ''part'' of the Organisation (at least, not initially), but he was ''manipulated'' by them, something that would be easy due to his vanity, selfishness, pride, and weak will. Zak's entire case was probably manipulated by the Organisation. It was they who suggested Zak change lawyers, they who gave Gavin Misham's name and the atroquinine (which he likely had to have gotten in a way that doesn't tie him directly to a purchase). It was they who anticipated Gavin to give Phoenix the forgery and rat him out because of his pride being bruised. After all, when the Phantom was cornered, they attempted to murder him. Gavin was tried for two murders, and not shot nor worried about getting killed over it. Gavin MAY have joined after, and murdering Zak was his final task, hence why he lied about why he did it.
* Do you think Calisto Yew was likewise part of this Organisation, as well as the smuggling ring? She and the Phantom have a lot of similarities. Neither has a real identity, for starters. Both impersonated people in the legal profession, both are spies, both are able to become anyone they want, with Yew preferring to make up people and the Phantom preferring the DeadPersonImpersonation technique, both have an overtly emotion-ridden façade and both have an emotionless one, with the emotionless one having white as one of their most notable colours.
** I think that Calisto Yew is a Phantom. Not necessarily that one. But just think for yourself. The term Phantom itself was created by Simon Blackquill. The person known as Phantom just doesn't exist. There is only a spy who follows his orders and impersonate people to fullfill his orders. I highly doubt that there is only one spy. Calisto Yew may be another. It is entirely possible that she is the part of this Organisation or even some other Organisation which is rival to it.
*** I was just asking your opinion, not... not thinking for myself. It's possible the Phantom being so like Yew is just a huge RedHerring. If Yew does return, though, there might be some huge potential for her being part of the Organisation. If she hasn't been executed, anyway.
* Adding to this, Redd White may have been part of the same organisation if this WMG is true. It's implied he had most of the legal world in LA under his thumb thanks to blackmail, which would be ideal to the organisation. If the organisation isn't just composed of spies and assassins, it's possible White was part of that organisation. We can assume the organisation existed long before the series began, because the Phantom had been part of it long enough to forget who he was and what he looked like (implying, too, that he possibly started young). White may have been a member, but not someone who had to hide his identity due to being such a prominent member of society. It's possible that, in the film adaptation of the game, the person who was responsible for poisoning White was someone from the organisation, since I don't think it's ever revealed who gave him poison. He was probably a bottom-tier member, hence why White didn't panic about being killed in court like the Phantom was (he probably didn't know he would be) despite the fact that he controlled much of the legal world. Possibly because they'd still have all his blackmail information even if he did die, since there'd have to be some physical evidence.

[[WMG:Bobby Fulbright was familiar with Phantom ]]

* Bobby Fllbright was killed one year before events happening in Dual Destinies. You know, the detectives do not die just that simple. There should be a reason for killing him. Most likely he found something that the killer didn't want him to find
* His body was unidentified for a whole year. Most likely it was Phantom who tampered with him to make his body practically inrecognisable. So no one would found out that he was an imposter.
* Finally, It is highly unlikely that Phantom could mimic a guy that well just reading about him in some reports or listening about him from his relatives / coworkers. It is most likely that he knew Fulbright for some time to mimic him

So my point is that Fulbright was in the middle of some investigation where he eventually came close to revealing either

* 1) His identity
* 2)Organisation which hired him
* 3)Or just a simple fact that he was a spy

That was the real reason why he was killed.

And the reason why he was able to find something about Phantom in the first place was either

* Phantom was his colleague (prosecutor or another detective)
or
* one of the guys related to the case which he has been investigating for some time.
** If this one is true, he may have murdered Fulbright to simply get into the police force on orders from his bosses.
*** It is also a probability. But I still don't understand why Fulbright should have been the choice. There are a lot of police officers in their city. So why he had to choose Fulbright It's not like he has some privileges or respect from others.
*** It's implied he used Fulbright because then he'd get to be Simon's handler, as Simon says he's known Fulbright a year now, and that's how long the real Bobby's been dead. I'd say that counts as a privilege. Also it doesn't hurt that Fulbright is essentially an idiot. Probably ''because'' Fulbright had no exceptional respect from his fellow officers is why he pick him.

[[WMG:Bobby Fulbright was Detective Gumshoe's friend]]

They knew each other. And in the next game our old and awesome detective will return. His knowledge about Bobby Fulbright will be very important for the new cases and will help to reveal the organisation who hired Phantom

[[WMG: Constance Courte and Hakari Mikagame/ Justine Courtney were friends.]]
I have no real basis for this, other than they do come off as somewhat similar to me, as both are lady judges with ties to the Goddess of Law (Hakari constantly referring to her and Constance's death being closely tied to a statue of her). Constance seems like the kind of person Hakari would admire if not idolise as a judge, with her love for her students and deep devotion to the law. It's possible that Constance was Hakari's inspiration to become a judge, as Constance is 13 years older than Hakari, and may have been something like the Goddess of Law to her.

[[WMG: Athena Cykes's father is Kristoph Gavin ]]

Because it explains many things. Though indeed, that may look as a MayDecemberRomance at first sight because of large age gap between him and Metis Cykes, but he may have hid his real age. He may be older. And if he isn't, that still doesn't change a thing. He was 16 when Athena was born. Marriage is allowed when a person is 16 years old in USA so it is indeed very possible. Athena didn't mention her father, and she seems to not remembering him or at least remembers him badly. That was most likely because Kristoph abandoned his wife or it may be the other way - Metis learned what a real jerk Kristoph was and threw him out. Anyway, I am almost sure that he looked different at this time (just remember how Klavier looked at this time) so Athena didn't have a chance to recognise him even if she had remembered his face. Further than that it explains two things: Athena's natural talent as a lawyer (passing bar exam at 18 is pretty impressive) and Athena's black locks. We haven't seen them before Kristoph Gavin's appearance, though we have seen a wide range of villains and witnesses during 3 games. This may indicate that this is the very rare case and it may be passed with the genetic transmission. Also Kristoph Gavin started his dealings just one year before Phantom infiltrated Space Center so it makes Kristoph's relation to this case possible. Also, it still hasn't been cleared out what really has driven Kristoph to do all of this and what secret did his black locks hide? Probably he was even somehow related to the organisation which hired Phantom. As we clearly remember it was their actions which started the dark age of the law to begin with. It may have been their intention from the very beginning.
* The only hole I can really shoot in this is that black Psyche-Locks guard secrets that even the owner of the locks doesn't have an (initial) answer to; they're a subconscious, psychological block over both mind and heart. Every other single set of locks we've seen, the person has ''purposely'' kept the information to themselves despite having an answer to the question and forced Phoenix (or Edgeworth) to practically drag the truth out of them, and they relent with enough evidence. With the black locks, it's coaxing the truth to the surface; the truth from them can't be forced to the surface lest it damage the person forever, according to Pearl. Black locks aren't triggered by a lie or avoidance of the question like the red ones are, they're triggered, well, by a [[TraumaButton trigger and it's unlikely that they're genetic; trauma isn't genetic. They're rare because so few people suffer such deep psychological scars that goes even beyond PTSD, and because Phoenix doesn't deal with many people who have dealt with this problem.]]

** I understand what you mean. But my theory was that not actually the black locks but Athena's ability to experience such deep feelings and probably her ability to feel emotions coming from other people stronger than anyone else is inherited from Kristoph. Because her mother didn't have it and even tried to research it.
*** Well, it's never shown but it's implied that Eve and Espella from ''VisualNovel/ProfessorLaytonVsPhoenixWrightAceAttorney'' could have had them. There are no Psyche-Locks in that game at all, so it's impossible to tell, but their trauma and reaction to the traumatic event lines up exactly with what happened to Athena and her locks. Granted, they're not an ideal example because I can't prove they had the same Locks and evidence is everything in court. So while it's merely conjecture, it is a possibility.

[[WMG: Candice Arme is alive and she is Valerie Hawthorne ]]

As we know there was a certain detective who looked quite similar and was involved in two crimes. Yes, it was Valerie Hawthorne. It was her who forced Ted Tonate to hide a truth about explosions. She [[FakingTheDead faked her death ]] twice and managed to create new identity. So what has really happened in Dusky Bridge? What motivated Valerie to do what she did? Even if she hated her father and loved Dahlia (but she didn't) she didn't have any reason to involve both (!) herself and her sister into the crime by faking a kidnapping and later shooting into innocent Terry Fawles being a detective herself. The point is she planned it all along. Since the conversation with Dahlia about the fake kidnapping she started to create her [[EvilPlan evil plan]]. She planned all along to let Dahlia fall from Dusky Bridge and then to hide her holding her in constant fear and nervousness which badly affected her sanity. After that she gave false testimony against Terry Fawles, and later before his execution she made the trailer which transferred him to break which let him loose. She knew that he would phone her. She told that she would meet him and told everything to Dahlia. She knew about the condition of her sanity and she knew that she would come there because it was what she had been planning all along. The meeting near the Dusky Bridge was quite different from what we thought it was. Dahlia actually met Valerie and talked with her. After that Valerie mocked her (using her ill condition) and forced Dahlia to attack herself. While planting into her arms the exact same knife which was found at the place of the crime. But it wasn't Valerie who she "pierced" It was prearranged corpse which she was carrying in her car all along. Dahlia was shocked by what happened. She never intended to kill anyone. She turned around and run crying never even bothering to look at the dead corpse which wasn't actually Valerie Hawthorne. And that was the beginning of insane monster called Dahlia Hawthorne. Yeah, this thought of Dahlia about killing her sister completely made her crazy and all her next murders were caused by this single event and were directed to clear the traces leading to the murder which she never did. And her life became a nightmare. What a good older sister she had, indeed. After that Valerie rearranged crime scene to make things even more messed up and left it. From that time she was never heard of... Until... Years later... A certain detective named Candice Arme was investigating the crime scene. The certain director named Yuri Cosmos and Candice Arme were the first people to walk up at the scene of the murder. What a good alibi! In fact it was her who killed Clay Terran, not Phantom. Because he never even had a need to do that to begin with because it could only cause more suspicions in his direction. All he need was to take moon rock from him which would be easier than taking candy from a baby. While what we saw - moon rock was still in possession of Clay Terran. And that was because Candice Arme who killed him couldn't care less about the moon rock. Actually it was her goal from very beginning to make Phantom (and all who investigate this case) a lot of troubles. That was only confirmed by the fact that she had a sweet talk with Tonate which resulted in court bombing. That wasn't Phantom. In fact [[DeadPersonImpersonation Bobby ]] was at the trial in that time. He never even had the time to plan the bombing let alone do it. After the court bombing Candice had a lot of fun by observing the consequences of it. The reason why moon rock stayed intact was because of her. She made sure that he did not turn to the dust. She planned to amuse herself watching prosecution and defence attorneys facing Phantom in the court. The reason why [[DeadPersonImpersonation Fulbright ]] started acting so strange in last cases was because he started to suspect that something strange was happening. There was Clay Terran who he never killed, and court bombing which he never did, both of them though were connected to a moon rock so he came to the conclusion that he could be suspected in the future. After that he started acting more kindly to let defence attorneys find the culprit as fast as possible. He didn't care of course if they would find the real culprit in the end or not. All he cared about was that he wouldn't be the one who falls under suspicion. But he still panicked. He thought that that trial could eventually lead to the incident that happened 7 years ago in which the real culprit was him. And because of that he brought the forged evidence in hope to end that trial as fast as possible. Sadly, it didn't give him much profit. In the end a certain guy was revealed as being Phantom and accused of two murders and court bombing while in fact he has done only one. While soon after that he was shot. So. Why did Candice Arme know Phantom identity? And what was her goal all along? And what if it was her who shot him in the end? And that could only mean that Candice Arme / Valerie Hawthorne in fact was a spy all along working for a rival organisation. Making her... The second Phantom!
* I always thought Arme more strongly resembled Calisto Yew. Maybe she's all of them?

** I have thought about it as well. She very well may be Calisto Yew. It actually fits her nature as she constantly changes disguises. So it is very likely that she has more than two disguises. So she could be Valerie Hawthorne, Calisto Yew, Shih-na, Candice Arme and even more people who we know nothing about. Even more it is very likely that Calisto Yew is a second Phantom.
*** It goes further than that. Specifically, yew, hawthorn, willow (柳), and vine (葛) are all types of wood (willow and vine being found in the Japanese surnames for Hawthorne and Yew respectively, hence the kanji). The surnames also take on meaning if you look at J.K. Rowling's notes about the four woods for wands. They're worth discussing because she does base it off Celtic lore about woods and other stories about what kinds of woods do what. Hawthorn wands, she notes, are complex and contradictory. They can be used for healing and for cursing just as effectively as the other, and they can, notably, ''backfire''. Yew is the wood used to make He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's wand, and is said to, get this, imbue the user with the powers of life and death. Seems pretty fitting for a woman who seems to die and vanish a lot. Yew also has some of the more frequent associations with dark magic. Willow and Vine are likewise woods Rowling talks about. Ron and Hermione are notable users of willow and vine wands respectively. What's interesting to note about this is the fact that yew and hawthorn were used by people on the ''dark'' side, You-Know-Who and Draco Malfoy. Willow, Rowling notes, often picks people who have a great deal of potential and are known for doing advanced, non-verbal spells quite neatly. Vine wood users "seek a greater purpose, who have a vision beyond the ordinary and who frequently astound those who think they know them best." They're also attracted to people with "hidden depth". Both work pretty well for someone who never has the same face and personality twice. Yet another thing all four of those woods have in common is that they're all woods Rowling notes to be "uncommon" in wands. It's a pretty neat coincidence, I think, if it is indeed that. Calsito Yew and Valerie Hawthorne are also roughly the same height, a difference of 8cm, with Yew being the taller. Arme doesn't have a given height that I can find, and her Japanese name makes a pun similar to her English one, so she doesn't fit in as neatly as Hawthorne does with Yew. Hawthorne and Yew are also, interestingly, the same age (unless, of course, Yew lied about her age). Arme ''may'' not fit in, due to being 11 years younger than Yew and Hawthorne, but there's a definite, viable connection between Hawthorne and Yew. There's also the fact, between Yew and Hawthorne, that (if the identities are fake) they faked being the distraught older sister to a character who was supposed to have died. The best connection between Hawthorne and Arme is they're both detectives, with Yew likewise being in the legal profession as a attorney, and Yew's other identity, Shih-Na, being an agent of Interpol, which seems to be a lot like being a detective. Yew and Hawthorne also share relation to the two earliest cases we can play in the series, Turnabout Beginnings and Turnabout Reminiscence. Which, I guess, therein lies the real problem with this theory, unless Yew/Hawthorne was switching between the two personalities for years, since Yew and Hawthorne's timelines overlap from 2008 to 2011 (as we know Hawthorne existed from at least 2007 to 2012 and Yew was part of the Yatagarasu from 2008 to 2011).

[[WMG: Florent L'Belle is [[Franchise/HarryPotter Gilderoy Lockhart]] from an alternate universe.]]
Both are full of themselves, take great pride in their looks, and developed hair-care products that never got mass-produced to the public. Both of them are also not nearly as good at what they do as they claim to be.

[[WMG: Apollo will have long-lasting physical injuries due to avoiding a proper recovery from the bombing.]]
As in, he'll have permanent scarring and probably experience a lot of pain in his arms and shoulders for the rest of his life, due to damaged nerves. There's no way he didn't sustain nerve damage by blocking a huge piece of debris from crushing Juniper with only his arms. He's lucky he didn't ''break'' anything. Unless he's actually Spiderman/SpiderMan. Which would explain a lot.
* Maybe his Chords aren't his only part of his body made of Steel? :P

[[WMG: Maya has gotten married in the interim 8 years since we last saw her.]]
Would explain why Pearl doesn't seem to mind Phoenix talking with other women when Maya's not around and why it seems she's dropped the Phoenix-is-Maya's-special-someone thing. Maya has either gotten married or engaged.

[[WMG: Victor Kudo, the bird-hating old man from Case 3-3, is Simon Blackquill's granddad.]]
He'd probably be their maternal grandfather, hence why they don't have the same surname. Both have associations with Japanese culture, as Kudo is a kimono embroiderer and dresses in Japanese attire, where Simon reveres the way of the samurai and dresses with Japanese elements in his attire, and both have association with birds (albeit Kudo clearly hates them and Simon does not but irony is funny). Kudo could have embroidered Blackquill's coat. I mean the ages somewhat fit (Kudo is about 68 when Blackquill would have been 19, as he's the same age as Maya, though Aura does create a small problem in that she's 9 years older than Simon, meaning that Kudo was 40 when she was born, meaning that Kudo and Mama Blackquill were around 20 when they each became parents). Though it IS a little hard to picture Aura and Simon throwing him a birthday party, especially being 19 and 28 at the time, the grandkids Kudo mentions could not be Aura and Simon, but their cousins (if indeed they have any), especially since Kudo calls his grandson a messy eater. Though according to the robots and Athena, Aura and Simon used to be far, far more pleasant people, so maybe it's not so hard to imagine they had something to do with it. Oh, and ''hilarious'', since he's a bird-hater, a tech-hater, and a DirtyOldMan.

[[WMG: Simon Blackquill is a Goa'uld]]
Or to be more specific, a Tok'ra. This idea mostly stems from the fact that several times in the game Blackquill's eyes do the creepy glowy thing like the Goa'uld. If he is, then he'd be a Tok'ra because despite that he seems a bit nasty at times, he's not evil. Furthermore, if Simon is a Tok'ra then the phantom is actually one of those hunters out to kill Blackquill (similar to Jolinar) and the whole thing with Blackquill being in jail is a setup by the SGC in order to keep him safe. Aura, being Simon's sister, knows that he's a Tok'ra but not about the protective guilty verdict. By the time of Dual Destinies, Edgeworth knows about the phantom's existence because of the SGC, but doesn't know the details about the Goa'uld and Stargate. The setup trial for Blackquill was a last-ditch attempt to get the phantom out of hiding, with Blackquill's 'execution' date actually being the date to send him through the Stargate to another world for safety. The UR-1 incident was covered up by the SGC as to not reveal the Goa'uld to the general public, and the rushed trial was fully intentional.

[[WMG: Courtroom 4 is cursed.]]
Not only was this courtroom the one bombed, but the only two people known to have died in a courtroom died ''in this courtroom''; Terry Fawles, who committed suicide in Case 3-4 and Candice Arme who was murdered. Likewise, Apollo was attacked and could very well have died if he wasn't a main character in this courtroom. If it is indeed cursed, it's possible that every trial we know of that had a bad, bad ending (the IS-7 Incident, the DL-6 and the UR-1 Incidents, as well as Maggey's initial trial for the murder of Glen Elg in Case 3-3 and Case 3-4) were all held in this courtroom. Weirdly, it's also the only courtroom used in this game except for the very first trial (when it was obviously not being used because it was recently made into rubble).
* This also ties in nicely with the usual [[FourIsDeath beliefs regarding that number.]]

[[WMG: Edgeworth wasn't talking to ''Gaspen'' Payne in the credits.]]
The person he's addressing is only credited as "Payne", right? Well, it seems the wimpy, ineffectual prosecutor we all know has some HiddenDepths...

[[WMG: Apollo's perception wasn't so much stronger in Case 1/4/5 as it was that he was more sensitive due to despair.]]
Apollo... is interesting during these cases. Not only does he manage to fool Athena's emotion-reading (she never noticed before he lost control of his emotions that he was suspicious of her), but his perception is so sensitive he has to try and handicap himself. This, and also, he takes not Edgeworth's logic, but ''Franziska's'' regarding the "truth" (as she was the only person out of her, Gumshoe, and Edgeworth to concede that Kay could have been the culprit of Case I2-4). It's possible Apollo's perception, at least, was "stronger" because he was so distraught over Clay's death, rather than his powers actually being stronger. A literal sensitivity to match his emotional one (and Apollo is a very emotional person). This is why he thought to control his emotions (again, this is just conjecture based on Athena's reaction to Apollo's distraught outburst before leaving the Agency; she notes his suspicion like it's new to his voice), but it ended up making everything worse for him.

[[WMG: British government hired the Phantom ]]

As seen in ''VisualNovel/ProfessorLaytonVsPhoenixWrightAceAttorney'' british government played a major role in almost everything and used illegal means to achieve a needed result. They used simple people as test subjects and brainwashed them for testing unique only to Labyrinthia ink and a water. It is highly possible that they did the exact same thing with Phantom, brainwashing him and making him forget everything about his real identity, this also explains his identity crysis. To keep effect constantly they most likely handled him a quill or a pen with the same ink which they used to brainwash people So every time he wrote something during his job, impersonating someone, the ink effect was renewed, and prevented him from regaining his concious and real memories. After he was sent to custody in the end of DD, he can't use his pen/quill anymore, so he will eventually regain his memories in the new game, and this will be the crucial moment which leads the main cast to eventually bringing down the main villain of next main AA game.

[[WMG: Juniper may have been one of Aura's hostages]]

This idea was inspired by a fanfic but thinking about the circumstances it seems somewhat plausible in canon as well. Case 5 happens over a very short span of time (the investigation section only lasts...maybe about two-and-a-half to three hours at most before the trial segment begins). So Phoenix and Trucy visit the Space Center's museum, run into Juniper, return to the gate to talk to Director Cosmos, go visit Ted Tonate at the Detention Center, visit the robotics lab and Aura, and then Trucy returns to the Space Center to try and talk to Apollo where she winds up taken hostage thereafter (the call about the hostage situation comes during the scene at the Detention Center after talking to Simon and during the discussion with Fulbright, which must only be about 45 minutes to an hour after the visit to the Space Museum). Juniper may never have left the Space Center between running into Phoenix and Aura rounding up the hostages (since the hostage taking would have had to happen before she notified the police that she was holed up in the Space Museum).

[[WMG: Kay Faraday was arrested for larceny, or at least attempted larceny, sometime between Investigations 2 and Dual Destinies.]]
During one of Simon's recollections of people he's met in prison and the fortune cookie fact of the day they give him, he says, "A former ninja I met in the clink said that exposing those who work in the shadows... is to pass the death sentence upon them". Which sounds like something Kay would say, just using Simon's way of wording things (as Simon doesn't directly quote them, as evidenced by a lack of quotation marks when he says it). Edgeworth at one point thinks Kay wants to be a ninja, not a thief, so it's not unreasonable that Simon would assume she was, too (even though Kay would loudly proclaim herself as the Great Thief Yatagarasu). Kay's already established herself as not exactly a good thief, so her being arrested when she actually tries isn't unreasonable, and since she actually did do it, Edgeworth couldn't exactly defend her like he did when Kay was accused of murder.
* Alternately, she met him along with Edgeworth when the latter was investigating ways to reopen the UR-1 incident. [[ExactWords He didn't say the ninja was a fellow prisoner.]]

[[WMG: How the Athena's hearing works.]]
There are a lot of inconsistencies with Athena's hearing. Off-hand in optional dialogue she'll remark she can hear emotions in peoples' voices, even though she has no reason to listen in. However, she never picked up on the phantom's emotionless voice nor did she pick up on the fact that Apollo was deeply suspicious of her at once. I think her hearing works like a radio, and that things are layered: you have the noise, always in the middle, and the fake emotions and the real emotions, which are on either side of the noise. Whatever's on top is sitting at the higher frequency. I'll break it down:
* At maximum noise due to falsifying testimony or emotion, the metaphorical radio is tuned nearly halfway up to the next frequency on the radio. This is because the person is trying to drown out their real emotions with fake ones, and a higher frequency will drown out a lower one. Athena has to 'tune down' the radio to get the real emotions. The fake emotions sit on top of the noise as they try and drown out both the noise and their real feelings. You tune the radio down because the real emotions are '''under''' the noise.
* At maximum noise where the person is just mistaken, like Mayor Tenma, the radio is nearly halfway tuned ''down'' to the previous frequency and the radio has to be tuned up. This is because they're not consciously hiding their real emotions, so the real emotions are sitting on top of the noise waiting to be found, while the false emotions generated by the false memory are under the noise. The radio is tuned up to bring out the real emotions sitting on top of the noise.
* However, there are two exceptions. One is Apollo, the other is the phantom. Apollo masks his real feelings with a lack of emotion, and the phantom masks his emotionless true self with fake emotions. THEY have the radio dial tuned firmly to the dead centre between two stations. Hence why the others are "nearly"; you can always tell what direction to turn the dial to in the other situations. However, when one half denies emotion, it's harder to pick up on, especially if emotionlessness is the base feeling, for which you don't even have to fake anything. Emotionlessness makes it hard to tell which side of the noise the 'real' emotions are on, making it hard to hear what direction the 'radio' needs to be tuned to. This state also generates more noise to compensate for the emotionlessness, making the lack of emotion hard to hear and hard to pinpoint if it's the real feeling or the false one. People can lose the ability to feel emotions if they experience something as distressing as someone they care about being murdered, at least for a while. Apollo is stated to be cold, distant, "dark and mysterious", and his mannerisms in court suggest he's mostly cut himself off from emotion. Athena has to talk to them a bit more and really listen her hardest to pick out what's under the noise.

[[WMG: Apollo and Athena have met before.]]
I find it HIGHLY doubtful that they don't know each other prior to The Monstrous Turnabout. They're both connected to the GYAXA Space Station, as Athena's mother worked there, and Apollo and Clay went there a lot. Perhaps they had met each other, but forgot they met each other, because of how long it was, or weren't officially acquainted, and thus didn't know each others names. The same could be said for Apollo and Blackquill.

[[WMG: The Phantom is [[TheWormThatWalks The Worm That Walks.]] ]]
Because why not?

[[WMG: Edgeworth was Simon Blackquill's mentor.]]
Mostly because I just like the idea and can totally see Simon calling him "Edgewoorth-sensei", but it actually makes a lot of sense. They both have some similar mannerisms in court (tapping the forehead and smirking, in particular, whenever they're feeling confident), have formidable reputations and are seemingly terrifying at first meeting, but turn out to have good hearts. Not to mention that they both have a close friend from their younger years who become defence attorneys trying to 'save' them. Maybe when Blackquill started at the DA's office, Edgeworth was either assigned or took it upon himself to mentor the younger prosecutor, seeing his potential- not unlikely, considering he practically did the same for Sebastian Debeste/Yumihiko Ichiyanagi in ''Investigations 2''. It would give an extra layer of meaning as to why Edgeworth let Blackquill prosecute, and allowed for the retrial to go ahead- not only was he trying to end the dark age of law, he probably looked into the case when Blackquill was arrested and worked out that he was innocent, or else knew about his investigation into the phantom and suspected that there was more to it, and was trying to get his protégé acquitted.

[[WMG:Phoenix has [[AntiFrustrationFeatures no lifebar in Psyche-Lock sequences]] because Pearl improved upon her magatama-charging.]]
It's been 8 years since Pearl last appeared, so it's likely she's spent those past years improving her already-impressive spiritual abilities (i.e. the reason her mother Morgan was trying to get her to usurp Maya of the position of the master of the Fey clan in the original trilogy), allowing her to, among other things, give the magatama a boost that makes it less harmful to Phoenix's soul whenever he guesses wrong.

[[WMG: The Phantom was shot by Shelley de Killer]].
I mean, we know he does his...''work'' in the area, and that he was never caught after his last ''contract'', so who's to say he wasn't hired to take out the Phantom? At the very least it would explain why there's no real rush to uncover who the shooter was: Edgeworth mentions in ''Justice for All'' that there's a task force specifically dedicated to finding de Killer, and he probably just handed the case off to them. This also leads to one of two scenarios:
** He was specifically hired to wound the Phantom, and not kill him, which would lend weight to all the conspiracy theories above, or:
*** He missed. de Killer's gotta be getting old now. Maybe his eyesight's going and he couldn't hit the Phantom with a killshot, what with all his flailing around on the witness stand. Maybe he'll be looking for his successor sometime in the near future?

[[WMG: Clay Terran's death was faked.]]
It's implied Clay didn't die immediately after being stabbed, since it says he died of blood loss. Which makes sense, the knife can't be that long and had to go through a very thick suit (and has a solid inch or two of clearance between the handle and Clay's suit). Further, the person in charge of IDing Clay's body was someone who knew nothing about Clay, not even his face. Considering what Cosmos is like, it's possible he and Detective Arme found the barely-alive Clay, and staged the crime scene to look like he'd been murdered. Cosmos was very prepared for the phantom's attack, and knew Clay and Starbuck would be targeted. Considering how much he cares for his men, maybe he was prepared to fake their deaths if needed. So after they rescued Clay, they staged the crime scene to look as though Clay ''really was murdered''. The truth never came out because Clay was still in a bad state (possibly unconscious), and Cosmos couldn't risk Clay's safety while the phantom was still at large. Aura is also oddly calm, even smug, despite Clay's death, and she's known Clay for years and years and is obviously fond of Apollo. She probably knew, too, about Clay's situation, possibly being the one to provide "corpses" (read:robots). She does build the robots, after all. She just built one to stand in as Clay's body. It was put in his bloodied space suit. It's possible Edgeworth and the autopsist both know the truth, too. Clay is legally dead, but he himself is not.
* The problem with this theory is that it basically implies that the entirety of the Cosmic Turnabout was essentially useless, since anyone could just reveal the truth at any time and things would have ended the same way. The robots are also hardly life-life enough to stand in for Clay's corpse, and anyone would be able to tell the difference. This would also imply that evidence like the autopsy report which clearly stated that Clay was dead was directly faked, and that they were going through with pushing at what was basically false charges. I don't know about you, but that just doesn't seem like something Edgeworth would allow to me. Getting a coroner to forge autopsy results is a serious crime, and if we're basically trying tos say that all of this was basically just a conspiracy that was kept hush-hush between certain people, it'd be very, very illegal. Not to mention, it's kinda morally dubious as well, when it comes to what it ends up doing to Starbuck and Athena, and Apollo. Not to mention, making up the fact that someone's died to catch someone out is a ''major'' case of entrapment, and there's no way that'd be allowed on any legal level. Not even in the Ace Attorney world and even with the Chief Prosecutor's backing. (If I recall Myriam directly mentions the entrapment objection at one point, so it definitely exists in this world)
** The OP is probably suggesting this since Clay's death ''is'' rather peculiar, there already was a conspiracy going on, and how everyone at the station but Starbuck acted pretty weird about Clay's death. It doesn't really matter what it does to Starbuck, Athena, or Apollo because this isn't about the meta "why would the game makers do this". It's about a quick-thinking plan by Arme, Aura, and Cosmos to save Clay's life and protect him from the phantom without real thought to how it would affect anyone else. If word got out that Clay had been saved, the phantom would no doubt go for him again. So only Arme, Aura, a coroner, and Cosmos knew Clay had been saved. People faking their deaths isn't unusual for this series and we know some coroners aren't above faking an autopsy report, because that's how Manfred got a black mark on his record. It's likely ''Edgeworth'' didn't know unless he has a very good reason for concealing the fact Clay isn't dead, but it's still possible Cosmos, Arme, and Aura faked Clay's death with the help of a coroner. Also, the Cosmic Turnabout wouldn't be "useless" since they did find out who murdered Metis Cykes and that Bobby Fulbright is (hypothetically) dead. He's one who could also still be alive, since Edgeworth only ''says'' he's dead and the phantom isn't charged with Fulbright's murder.
