[[WMG:Command & Conquer's Kane will have an unexplained cameo]]
* {{Jossed}}.
** Well, everyone in Harkonnen culture is bald.

[[WMG:The movie will end before the two-year time skip]]
Since the movie will cover the first half of the book, it's likely that it would end around the time [[spoiler:Jessica drinks the Water of Life and Paul chooses the name of Muad'Dib]]. In that sense, the second movie will show characters like Feyd-Rautha, Alia, Emperor Shaddam and Irulan.
* [[spoiler:Zig-zagged. The first movie ends right after Stilgar accepts Paul and Jessica to join his Fremen tribe. On the other hand, Feyd-Rautha, Emperor Shaddam, and Irulan have been confirmed to appear in the second movie (and are shown in the trailers).]]
** [[spoiler:Also, the second film compresses the timeline of events (as indicated by Alia remaining in Jessica's womb and not being born), so there is no TimeSkip in either film.]]

[[WMG:The Emperor will appear if only briefly in this movie, and will be a returning cast member from the first movie]]
If this movie does only cover the first half of the book, we will still need to see the Emperor of the Known Universe at least once. The Emperor [[RemakeCameo will be played by]] Music/{{Sting}}.
* Jossed. The Emperor isn't in the first movie, and Creator/ChristopherWalken plays him in ''Film/DunePartTwo''.

[[WMG:Duncan Idaho will survive the initial attack on the Atreides, only to die defending Paul and Jessica.]]
In the trailer, he addresses Paul as 'my lord duke', implying that Leto is dead.
* [[spoiler:Confirmed. This specific scene happens when Duncan manage to join Paul and Jessica after the initial attack and before they reach Kynes' sietch.]]

[[WMG:The Padishah Emperor will not appear in this movie]]
To simplify storylines and save on people they have to cast in the first film, the Padishah Emperor and whoever plays them (not to mention Princess Irulan) will not appear until the second film of the duology when they arrive in response to the Fremen uprising.
* Confirmed for the first movie.

[[WMG:Duncan Idaho and Gurney Halleck will switch fates]]
Since trailers show Duncan addressing a desert-bound Paul Atreides as "my duke", it stands to reason that he gets at least a temporary SparedByTheAdaptation versus his book fate of [[BigGuyFatalitySyndrome dying in the Harkonnen attack]]. Conversely, to keep the stakes of the battle closer to the book, perhaps it is Gurney Halleck instead who gets a DeathByAdaptation in the Harkonnen/Sardaukar assault.
* [[spoiler:Jossed. Duncan's fate is exactly like in the book, he dies holding the line in Kynes' sietch to help Paul and Jessica's flight. The "my duke" quote is pronounced by Duncan when he greets Paul once he meets him after the Harkonnen[=/=]Sardaukar assault on Arrakeen. Gurney disappears from the movie during said attack, he presumably reappears in the future second movie.]]

[[WMG:Rabban will die and Feyd-Rautha will just replace him for Part 2]]
Of note is that there's been no word of Feyd even being cast yet. If a second film gets made, Rabban's supposed to die during that. But perhaps they will kill him off early, say at Duncan's hands, to set the stage for his brother's entrance. Alternatively...
* [[spoiler:Jossed. By the end of the movie, Rabban is still alive.]]

[[WMG:Rabban will take over Feyd's role completely]]
Perhaps there's been no news of Feyd being cast because they don't plan on including him. But this would be a letdown for various reasons, not the least being that a Chalamet vs. Batista death duel would seem so lopsided on the surface in Batista's favor that Chalamet would ''have'' to win [[DavidVsGoliath by the rules of tropeland.]] This wouldn't feel so telegraphed if Paul was facing someone who looked like his equal.
* Not including Feyd in the movie, if they intend to have a second movie, wouldn't make sense [[spoiler:particularly when the Bene Gesserit's Kwisatz Haderach plan is going to be revealed in the movie and that plan is essential to the overall Dune saga and Paul's character. In their plan, Feyd is supposed to wed Leto Atreides and Jessica's daughter and their offspring would be the Kwisatz Haderach. But since Jessica bore a son instead out of her love for Leto, the Bene Gesserit's Kwisatz Haderach plan fall apart]]. Also, Feyd is Baron Hakonnen's favorite over Rabban and is the heir of his house, making him much of a {{Foil}} to Paul. And given Batista's age (he's in his '''fifties'''), if they intend to make Rabban a CompositeCharacter of Feyd, [[{{Squick}} the implication is there]]... but again, the director is not going to do the same stunt Jodorowsky is going to do in his proposed movie.
** Jossed. Villeneuve has confirmed Feyd will appear in the second part.

[[WMG:One of the heroes will be gay in this movie]]
[[AuthorsSavingThrow As an attempt to make up for the homophobic depiction of Baron Harkonnen in the 1984 movie.]]
* Sure, the Baron himself, [[{{DepravedHomosexual}} like he was in the original books]]. This is gonna end well!
** OP here. When I wrote this theory, I meant to predict that the movie would have a gay character who's heroic and definitely ''not'' a DepravedHomosexual.
* Not the OP: Jossed. The Baron isn't a depraved homosexual in this movie (Duke Leto is stripped naked and brought to him in that state, but that's about it, and it could also be justified in-universe as "make sure he's not carrying any hidden weapon"). There's actually no explicitly homosexual character, neither good or villain.

[[WMG:The multi-limbed creature in the Harkonnen throne room is Wanna]]
It is known Wanna was tortured and degraded by the Harkonnens to pressure Yueh into betrayal, but the exact torments are never stated either in the movie or the book. However in the book Piter de Vries is sadistic even by Harkonnen standards (and for his work on the fall of the Atreides wished to have Lady Jessica as a reward) and various forms of fleshcrafting are known to exist in the Empire (notably the Bene Tleilax, or the Mentat schools). It is conceivable Piter turned torture of the poor woman into his personal sick art project.
* Supporting argument is the fact that the creature responded to the Voice, hinting at a human origin.
* However, the Reverend Mother did not seem fazed by the creature; if it was what remained of a fellow Bene Gesserit surely she would have been less dismissive. On the other hand, perhaps she simply wanted to make it crystal clear such a brazen act of intimidation would not work on her.
* Another counter-argument: Baron Harkonnen fate of Yueh is expressed through ExactWords, as "joining Wanna" results in Yueh being murdered, not sedated and turned into some grotesque creature. Though it is possible it was put down off-screen, having served its purpose.

[[WMG:Much like the 2000 miniseries, the sequel will have Irulan be a more important character]]
Irulan's role could be magnified (possibly replacing the Fenrings), such as by having her be the one to visit Giedi Prime and deliver the Emperor's messages to the Harkonnens, or to have her play a role in convincing her father to accept Paul's terms in the finale. This would keep things simpler for viewers, and to have Irulan be established as an independent and capable character who is ultimately reduced to another pawn in Paul's machinations would further highlight the moral ambiguity and cost of his actions.
* Confirmed.

[[WMG:Thufir Hawat's fate will be mostly similar as in the book, but his motivation will be different]]
Thufir Hawat is not seen in the movie after the Harkonnen attack, not even for a death scene. Presumably, like in the book, he is captured by the Harkonnens and will be pressed into service by the Baron to replace Piter. However, a key point of the book is that Hawat was convinced Lady Jessica was the traitor in the Duke's houshold, not Yueh (since in the book Yueh had received conditioning to supposedly make it impossible to cause harm to the Duke or his family, but which had been broken by the Harkonnens by torturing his wife. Also, the Harkonnens had seeded disinformation that pointed towards Jessica). The Baron manipulated this belief to prevent Hawat refusing his services or even committing suicide, by offering him a chance to find and take revenge on the disappeared Jessica while in the Baron's employ. Since the wrongfully accused Jessica plotline is not in the movie, the second movie will probably reveal the baron had found another crutch to move Hawat with.
* In the book Feyd-Rautha plots with Hawat against the baron, resulting in an assasination attempt that was close to succeeding, and Hawat is implied to mentor Feyd in some of the finer points of subterfuge. It is possible that the dynamic between Thufir, Feyd-Rauta and the Baron will be expanded upon; with Hawat working to off the baron by preparing the nephew, Feyd gaining power and prestige by relying on Hawat's skills, and the Baron comparatively safe as he knows exactly from which angle any assassination attempts will occur.
** Jossed. Thufir doesn't appear in movie 2, while Feyd gets killed at the end, so no interaction takes place. Unless one is assumed to happen offscreen.
** But considering that his scenes were cut from this film it's possible this was to be the case before they made the decision to remove him.

[[WMG: At least one cast member from [[Film/Dune1984 David Lynch's Dune]] will have a RemakeCameo in the sequel.]]
A meta gag/ActorAllusion, suggested by [[https://youtu.be/Njo6J4Cz0rc?t=536 Nerd Cookies]], would cast former Kwizatz Haderach Creator/KyleMacLachlan as failed Kwizatz Haderach Count Hasimir Fenring.
* Jossed. Hasimir Fenring has been AdaptedOut.

[[WMG:Creator/TomasLemarquis will play Feyd in an eventual sequel.]]
Given how much of the Harkonnen-look is based on Lemarquis (who famously played ''Noi the Albino'') and that he appeared in Creator/DenisVilleneuve's ''Film/BladeRunner2049'' and clearly appears in concept art it's odd that he does not appear in the film. Unless he has been cast as Feyd and therefore is saved for the sequel.
* Jossed on him playing Feyd; that would be Creator/AustinButler, but he could still appear as some other Harkonnen or Giedi Prime native.

[[WMG:Paul's premonition about Jamis killing him was not literally true, but still metaphorically true.]]
What Jamis killed was Paul's innocence, for Paul had not manually taken a life before. TheseHandsHaveKilled after Paul won the duel against Jamis.
* Could also work with Jamis and Paul being friends, if killing Jamis influences how Paul behaves after.

[[WMG:The baron’s strange looking servants are Face Dancers]]
They have the look of a blank slate.

[[WMG:There will be a director's cut of each film in the series]]
Much like Film/TheLordOfTheRings, there will be extended editions of the films that cover more events of the book. I base this WMG on the amount of cut content there reportedly is of the film, and given how much of the events were excluded (such as the politics behind The Emperor's reasons for allowing House Atreides to be wiped out, or Jessica finding the hidden messages left behind by The Baron's concubine).

[[WMG: Feyd Rautha's opponent in the trailer was an Atreides soldier]]
This is close to confirmed by an interview, but still not completely, so I'm putting it here in July 2023. [[https://kungfukingdom.com/interview-with-roger-yuan/ Interview Link Here]]. Feyd's opponent is a minor character seen with the Duke in part 1 called lieutenant Lanville, played by a fight coordinator for the movie.

To add some actual guessing: Some people speculate that the black and white is meant to show Geidi Prime's pollution, or because the fight is at night. However, other Harkonnen scenes were not in black and white, and only one character is seen with vision devices. So this will be a flashback, when Feyd is being sent to do battle, showing his preparation of some sort. The flashback will take place during or after a discussion between the Emperor and Vladimir.
* In the released film, the black and white Giedi Prime scenes are neither night scenes nor flashbacks. This is actually the colors of Giedi Prime ''sunlight'' (there's an interior shot which starts with normal colors and progressively turns to black and white as the camera is following a character walking toward a window). In context, the vision device held by Margot Fenring is a pair of binoculars she uses to watch Fey-Rautha's gladiator fight.

[[WMG: Chani's role in the ''Dune Messiah'' movie]]
Part 2 ended with Chani [[spoiler:breaking up with Paul after he accepted Irulan to be his wife and walking out of the Arrakin]]. Paul mentions that Chani would eventually understand his reasons. Of course, it may not imply that Chani would return as his concubine so there are possible scenarios:

* Given that the movie removes the subplot [[spoiler:of Paul and Chani's firstborn son, they might make the twins (Leto II and Ghanima) their firstborn children. How that would happen would depend on how Denis portrays the relationship after the break-up. Possibly Chani comes around and returns to Paul after the fallout of the Jihad which Paul would feel regret and become cynical of his role. The two may make up and Chani would end up pregnant but her fate will be the same as the books]].
* [[spoiler:Chani would be part of the conspirator group (composed of Paul's former Fremen allies, the Guild, the Tleilax and the Bene Gessirit) against Paul, taking Irulan's place since in the book, Irulan joined the conspirators because the mistreatment that Paul gave to her. But Chani would feel sorry for him probably after the stone-burner incident or when Paul has regrets about his role. Since Denis mentioned that ''Dune Messiah'' will be his last Dune movie, the twins will likely be AdaptedOut because there probably won't be enough time for Paul and Chani to rekindle their relationship]].
* Alternatively, [[spoiler: Chani's leaving is necessary to trigger the chain of events that will end the holy war before it does too much damage. Paul foresaw it: it is the "Narrow Way" he refers too earlier, and he had to drive Chani away in a specific way in order to later end the mess he couldn't prevent.]]

[[WMG: The planned third film won't do a time skip, and instead will include the years leading up to ''Dune Messiah'']]
The story of ''Dune Messiah'' is fairly short, light on action, and not really enough to fill a movie with runtime comparable to ''Dune: Part One'' and ''Part Two''. But both existing movies have included scenes focusing on events which the book ''Dune'' only described in passing or didn't include at all. So it seems likely that the third film will fill in its runtime by actually showing on-screen the important events which shaped the new status quo of the beginning of ''Dune Messiah'', such as [[spoiler:the Fremen's holy war and the beginnings of terraforming Arrakis.]] The very end of the second film, where [[spoiler:Chani leaves Paul]], also doesn't seem to lend itself well to a time skip. The new material could take up perhaps the first half of the movie, with the story of ''Dune Messiah'' adapted into the second half.
* Additionally, there's also a subplot from Part 2 where [[spoiler:Margot Fenring is pregnant with Feyd-Rautha's daughter which is a CallBack from the interquel ''Paul of Dune'' by Brian Herbert]]. Though it's unlikely that Villeneuve would adopt that given the changes from Part 2.

[[WMG: The world we see in the movies...]]
... is one where several of Paul's visions played out slightly differently from the novel. This is especially notable in the final scene where Paul walks up to the baron and greets him as his grandfather - in the novel, Paul has a vision of something like that happening but he rejects it because he hates the Harkonnens to go through with it. Who's to say he didn't envision a path a future in which [[spoiler: Chani turns against him]]?
