''Pilgrim: Faith As A Weapon'' is a PC PointAndClick AdventureGame developed by Arxel Tribe and published by [[Creator/InfogramesEntertainmentSA Infogrames]], released in 1997. It is loosely based on Creator/PauloCoelho's novel ''Literature/ThePilgrimage''. It is set in 13th century medieval France. Among other things, it notably has character designs by famed French cartoonist Mœbius (Jean Giraud).

A young boy, Simon de Lancrois, finds out his kindly old father, Adalard, is dying. Before his passing, he asks him to bring an important manuscript to his friend Petrus in the city of Toulouse. Simon goes on a journey to accomplish his father's last will, and will discover a secret conspiracy involving the Church, the Cathars, the Crusades, demons and TheInquisition.

Seen by today's standards, the game may not stand as very technically advanced for its time. The characters speak while staying motionless, moving from scene to scene is choppy, and most of the puzzles become very easy when you just click a "hint" button - not to mention the game comes with a {{walkthrough}}.

Not to be confused with ''VideoGame/PilgrimRPGMaker''.

!!This game contains examples of:
* ActuallyIAmHim: Happens both with [[spoiler:Petrus]] and [[spoiler:Bélibaste]].
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Simon actually has to die at one point, and he finds himself in limbo... finding Hades.]]
* BadAssSpaniard: Pablo the knife-thrower. He has only one good eye but is able to throw a knife very far accurately, without barely even looking at his target.
* BattleAmongstTheFlames: Simon fights Hades surrounded by a circle of flames in the DreamWithinADream.
* BurnTheWitch: [[spoiler:The female ghost Simon is trying to exorcize is a woman who was accused of witchery for having seduced many men.]]
* CartoonCheese: Simon has to go find a piece of cheese looking like this when inside Bélibaste's labyrinth, [[spoiler:a reference to the pet mouse he carried on his shoulders when he impersonated a mad monk.]]
* ChessWithDeath: While [[spoiler:in Limbo]], Simon has to play chess with [[spoiler:Hades in order to find a way to come back to life.]]
* ContrivedCoincidence: When Simon is in the cell, there is another prisoner here who seems to have been here for a long time. When he manages to open the door with a secret mechanism, [[spoiler:the prisoner is immediately found dead.]]
* CulturalTranslation: In the English dub, the characters speak with British accents.
* DamselInDistress: [[spoiler:Isabeau, both in Simon's dream and in "reality" where she is locked in a cage by Hades.]]
* DefrostingIceQueen: Isabeau. She is cold and arrogant towards Simon when they first meet, but is much nicer and cooperative when she needs him to prepare a play and [[spoiler:especially when he goes rescue her from Hades.]]
* DisproportionateRetribution: The Toulouse gate guard will not hesitate to ''kill'' Simon with his sword if he tries to ask to let him pass too much.
* DreamWithinADream: The introduction has Simon sleeping on the snow, dreaming he is fighting Hades but losing to him. Waking up, he hears Isabeau calling for him. He comes face to face with Hades and they fight. The fight is stopped by James the Great, who asks Simon to wake up for his adventure. ''Then'' Simon actually wakes up to hear his father calling...
* EvilSoundsDeep: Hades's deep resonating voice could give Darth Vader a run for his money.
* EyepatchOfPower: Pablo.
* {{Fauxshadow}}: Simon has two sword fights with Hades the demon knight in the dream introduction. So, of course, this is going to be the climatic battle, right? [[spoiler:Wrong. See Puzzle Boss below.]]
* {{Gonk}}: The luthier's daughter. He is definitely not ashamed of her, as he puts her picture on his shop's counter. Even the fabric merchant does not mind her looks.
* GoodAllAlong: [[spoiler:Diego d'Osma.]]
* HannibalLecture: Hades attempts one towards Simon so that he gives him the Durendal sword. He tries to convince him that his friends are asking too much from him, while he asks very little.
* HistoricalDomainCharacter: Diego d'Osma, Guilhem Bélibaste and James the Great.
* ImColdSoCold: Simon awakens from his DreamWithinADream when he hear Isabeau calling for his help, saying how she is cold.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Pablo manages to hit a small silk balloon by throwing a knife, while ''not even looking at it''.
* JerkAss: The knife salesman, who is disliked by almost every other shopkeeper in Toulouse. When a guy tells you that his knives are meant to slice the tongues of people who ask too many questions, you know he is not going to be fun at parties.
* MentorArchetype: Petrus, who serves as Simon's mentor for most of the story.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: William the English knight is filled with remorses for having participated into cruel slaughter in the Crusades. He wants to redeem himself by fighting Hades. [[spoiler:He loses and dies.]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromVeryFast: Hades, the evil demon knight. Come on, how can you trust that guy? [[spoiler:Seriously, don't.]]
* NoEnding: If you choose to [[spoiler:go live with Isabeau]] in the end, you don't get an ending sequence.
* NotTheFallThatKillsYou: When the mouse's silk balloon is deflated, it falls back in the monk's hands from at least a dozen meters and is later seen being perfectly healthy. Even for a small mouse, this is quite a feat to endure.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: The angel Simon meets looks like a classic one, except she is all white and very slender.
* {{Patricide}}: Heavily implied with Pablo. He says that his father's last will was that he spares his life.
* PoirotSpeak: Pablo. ''"Hola! Mi nombre es Pablo and I am the mas grande knife-thrower del mundo."''
* PuzzleBoss: [[spoiler:You don't kill Hades by entering into an epic sword fight like in the dream intro. You have to throw the Durendal sword in the river, Hades will jump in it to retrieve it and likely drown by the weight of his armor.]]
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: William wants to redeem himself from his acts of violence in the Crusades. He then decides to go fight the evil knight Hades, and gets killed by him immediately.
* ShadowArchetype: Hades is presented as this to Simon.
* SinsOfOurFathers: The ghost wants to get revenge, even if it means scaring away innocent villagers. They are the same type of people as those who got her killed, anyway.
* SoBeautifulItsACurse: When Simon has to confront a ghost haunting a house, he learns that her death was caused by being accused of witchery, simply because she attracted a lot of married men and [[ReallyGetsAround really got around]].
* TempleOfDoom: The catacombs where you have to manipulate machinery to demonstrate your knowledge of the Ten Commandments and the Plagues of Egypt.
* UnintentionallyUnwinnable: Let's hope you don't give all your coins to the beggar. Make sure you still have one.
* WackyWaysideTribe: Along his journey, Simon decides to help a young married couple who have a female ghost haunting their house. It brings nothing to the story, but both Petrus and Isabeau are very supportive of his actions.
* YouCannotGraspTheTrueForm: Simon meets incarnations of Strength, Faith and Knowledge. Respectively, they take the form of [[spoiler:Marc, Diego and Adalard]] because he associates these concepts with those people he knows in his mind.
