''Lab of the Dead'' is an UsefulNotes/AdobeFlash game on Website/{{Newgrounds}} and the storyline sequel to ''VideoGame/RoadOfTheDead''. In it the player takes control of Dr. Allen Creasman Tyler, a scientist who is actually studying zombies ''psychologically'' in order to find ways to control them. Unlike other ZombieApocalypse games, there is no danger of being eaten by a zombie, instead being focused on discovering things about zombies. It is playable [[http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/581901 here]].

The game would be followed up by ''Range of the Dead'', a story sequel that changes the gameplay from studying undead behavior to shooting them from afar. It is a 3D zombie shooter that has Dr. Tyler arm himself with a bolt-action rifle and other weapons after leaving the laboratory. Picking a valley below the facility as a [[TitleDrop firing range]], he prepares himself for the undead-infested apocalypse by using zed's as targets. The gameplay is simple to understand but may be difficult to play. You'll be dealing with gravity via bullet drop, the distance of the target and wind variation. It is playable [[https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/644202 here]] or in the mobile smartphones.

!!This game contains examples of the following:
%%* ApocalypticLog: Alpha Team's tapes/notes.
* AttractiveZombie: Some of the zombies look relatively good (the main things that are really abnormal are the blue skin and lack of eyes), both male and female, and their behaviors once they reach a high mood and humanity rating make them rather friendly.
* ContinuityNod: One radio conversation from ''VideoGame/RoadOfTheDead'' can be heard [[spoiler: namely, the one about the nuke. It is also implied that the player character is the brother of the car mechanic from that game.]]
%%* DiagonalCut: With the [[ChainsawGood chainsaw]] of all things.
* DrivenToSuicide: One of the soldiers kills himself and the scientist points out that this soldier was the most decent man of the group. He also doesn't blame him for wanting a way out.
* DownerEnding: [[spoiler:You cannot turn Zombies back even at 100% Mood and Humanity. Then, your fellow survivors turn on you, forcing you to either kill or infect them. The Game ends when you reach 100% completion and leave the facility to become TheAloner.]]
* {{Expy}}: While Dr. Tyler is based appearance-wise on Dr. Fischer, character-wise he clearly takes a lot from Dr. Logan. As they are scientists whom are interested in learning more about zombie behaviors and finding ways to reform the zombies.[[spoiler:Just like Logan, he becomes more and more amoral to the point he actually starts using the remains of his military superiors to feed his subjects. Although unlike Dr. Logan, he ends up being the SoleSurvivor]].
%%* GaidenGame: To ''VideoGame/RoadOfTheDead''
* GovernmentConspiracy: [[spoiler:Goes with the genre, as it is eventually revealed that the S-14 virus was created by the government.]]
* {{Irony}}: [[spoiler: The military general who was allowing the scientist to work in the lab finds the notes the scientist was collecting about the previous owners of the lab, and then uses science in general as a scapegoat for all their problems, and basically praises the military for not being that dumb. After he ends up dead, the scientist finds evidence that points at the ''opposite'' view, where the previous scientist eventually tried to prevent the outbreak by destroying the notes on the virus, only for the military to kill her on orders from above and as a misguided attempt to brute force the situation back to stability.]]
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: In one of the scientist's notes, [[spoiler:after you kill the soldiers by injecting them,]] he will state: "I didn't want it to come to this, but they gave me no choice."
* ItCanThink: A major plot point. These zombies aren't complete shells of who they once were, and actually display feelings.
* ItWorksBetterWithBullets: The advanced reaction to [[spoiler:the unloaded pistol has the zombie unsuccessfully try and shoot you with it.]]
%%* LudicrousGibs: Art by Sickdeathfiend, enough said.
* MadScientist: [[spoiler:The player, especially after murdering the military squad. It's DownplayedTrope, he has enough sanity to realize what he just did was twisted, and seems to regret it greatly and was acting out of stress. Despite any excuse, he still notes he should ''not'' have done that. Nonetheless, you can still feed their flesh to a zombie.]]
* MoodWhiplash: In universe. In order to get all reactions on a zombie, you sometimes have to annoy and hurt the zombies before making them feel good again to get all the needed reactions.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: The scientist says this after he kills the the soldiers.
--> '''Scientist:''' What... have I done? Have I finally gone mad as well? I killed them all in cold blood. Is my research really worth more than their lives? We'll never know... Now I'm alone, except hundreds of zombies, waiting to be studied.
* OverdrawnAtTheBloodBank: The live cat sprays an awful lot of meat out of its body for such a small animal.
* ShoutOut:
** Thanks to the film being a WholePlotReference to ''Film/DayOfTheDead1985'', the Advanced Reaction for the loaded pistol and cell phone are clear references to that film.
** The Advanced Reaction for the tazer (object) has Dr. Tyler say [[https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/dont-tase-me-bro "Hey! Don't taze me, bro!"]]
* SoleSurvivingScientist: The main character is a sole surviving researcher following in the footsteps of the original dead scientists. [[spoiler:Doubly so when he has to kill his military superiors in order to not only feed his test subjects but also save himself from them]].
* TooDumbToLive: At one point in the game, there is a soldier who decides to do some target practice on the zombies in the storeroom cages, by going INSIDE the storage room with the zombies. But ends up getting bitten and releasing a dozen zombies, thankfully the situation is contained, but they have to kill the private. And the scientist worries that this will turn against him.
** This may also count with the previous team, Alpha Team as they are called in the game. They didn't listen to the head scientist about modifying the virus and ended up inadvertently causing a zombie outbreak.
* TakeThat: The music player's aggressive reaction has some poorly sounding rap track playing on it. The game's author is definitely trying to get some message across.
* UndeathlyPallor: Zombies are portrayed as having decidedly bluish skins.
%%* VideoGameCaringPotential: Caring for ''zombies'' no less!
%%* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: Half of the gameplay!
* ViolationOfCommonSense: [[spoiler:Make a zombie have low mood and high humanity, shoot it in the legs, then give it a loaded handgun. Surprisingly, this does not result in the zombie killing itself or you--although they will try sometimes if given an empty handgun on low moods]].
* WhatTheHellHero: The scientist calls out Alpha Team in one of his logs about causing the virus.
--> '''Scientist:''' My latest findings on alpha team only confirm my worst fears. How could they be so STUPID? They DID start this outbreak.
* WholePlotReference: It is, for all intents and purposes, a playable version of ''Film/DayOfTheDead1985'' with very little in the way of any major differences except our main playable character is an expy of Dr. Logan, some backstory behind the S14 virus's creation and [[spoiler:the MadScientist killing everyone in his party.]]
%%* ZombieApocalypse: Naturally.
