''Frozen State'' is a SurvivalSandbox game with RPGElements and {{Roguelike}} elements. It was created by the Russian developer Flox Studios Ltd., and first launched through UsefulNotes/{{Steam}} Early Access on July 1st, 2014, before getting a full [[UsefulNotes/IBMPersonalComputer PC]] release on August 5th, 2016.

The world has been plunged into a man-made ice age in a bid to save humanity from human-alien hybrids. [[LaResistance A resistance movement]] has been formed by the survivors. On your way to meet with them, your character gets stranded in Duga-40, the experimental city. Now you need to explore the city, fight alien mutants, learn the history of Duga-40, and try to survive long enough to repair your transport and continue on your journey.

Compare to ''VideoGame/FadeToSilence'', which is another SurvivalSandbox that's full of strange monsters and is set after a frozen apocalypse.

!!Frozen State contains examples of:
* ActionGirl: One of the three playable characters is Maria, a nuclear physicist who is more reliant on stealth than the other characters, but is also the best at deploying high-tech weaponry when confrontation is unavoidable.
* BearsAreBadNews: In addition to all the mutants, bears are an enemy faced in the game. On the bright side, you can at least hunt them for meat.
* BreakableWeapons: All of the weapons will degrade with use.
* CarFu: When you're driving in a car, you can use it to run over enemies.
* CutAndPasteEnvironments: This is the flip side of a procedurally generated map.
* CyanidePill: All of the player characters start with cyanide in their inventory, to reflect just how bleak the world has become.
* EndlessWinter: The game is set in a world going through a man-made ice age.
* ItemCrafting: You can use resources from the world around you to make things.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: One of the enemies in the game has four arms, the lower set being used both as feet and claws.
* NoPeripheralVision: You can see the enemies' cone of vision while sneaking. While it is wider than the most egregious examples, it still prevents them from noticing anything directly to their side.
* PermaDeath: When the player character dies, you are either offered the option to load the last save, or a "Game Over" that'll delete it and force you to start over.
* ProcedurallyGeneratedLevels: The map is procedurally generated at the start of the game.
* PublicDomainSoundtrack: Most of the soundtrack is original, but it also features [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr1lkoFGs_4&list=PLoiHQQ_2IusnfVYum6fBt_9wTwZ748Hw9&index=17 a famous piece]] by Music/PyotrIlyichTchaikovsky.
* SprintMeter: Every character has a stamina meter, which is used for doing anything physical.
* WizardNeedsFoodBadly: Since this is a survival game, regularly eating, drinking and sleeping is a necessity.
