''Dogyuun'' is an [[UsefulNotes/ArcadeGame arcade]] ShootEmUp made by Creator/{{Toaplan}} in 1992.

The plot is somewhat vague, except that it involves two pilots destroying aliens after an alien mecha kills the reconnaissance ship leading them.

One interesting feature of the game is the ability in CoOpMultiplayer for player 1 to [[CombiningMecha combine]] with player 2, producing a larger ship with better firepower. The game also features loads of homing lasers and large bosses. It was also the first game to feature the astounding graphical designs of Creator/JunyaInoue.

!!This game displays the following tropes:

* AIBreaker: The easiest way to beat the scorpion boss is to have the red weapon, destroy one of its claws, that stay in the top corner on the same side as the destroyed claw. None of his attacks will be able to get you, and your red homing laser should be able to damage him.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: The second boss can only be damaged when it opens its chest to charge and fire out a WaveMotionGun.
* AwesomeButTemporary: The mecha that you get to pilot in the final stage. It's by far the best powerup, making you ''completely damn invincible'', and punch through other mecha enemies like nothing. However, it disappears right before the final boss.
* BatOutOfHell: You face several bat mechas in stage 6.
* BattleBoomerang: Third boss uses two of them while holding them in a BadassArmfold.
* BeamOWar: If you have the [[WaveMotionGun blue weapon]], you can try to counter the second boss' WaveMotionGun with yours. You'll probably lose, though, as he fires ''two'' while you only fire one.
* CombiningMecha: Player 1 can combine with player 2, forming a larger plane with stronger firepower.
* CoolBike: One of the enemies in stage 7 is a mech on a motorbike.
* CorridorCubbyholeRun: Stage 5's boss. He sends these [[http://www.shmups.com/reviews/dogyuun/images/dogy0128.png shield things]] that block your shots -- do ''bit'' destroy these quickly, as he'll send down a [[http://www.shmups.com/reviews/dogyuun/images/dogy0135.png massive wave of energy that will be blocked by them]].
* DirectContinuousLevels: Present for each level. One neat feature of the game is that you actually fight some of the previous stage's enemies at the start of the next stage.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Subverted with the golden robot which kills your friend in the intro, and [[VillainExitStageLeft escapes]] in stage 1. Although it ''does'' look like a BigBad or TheDragon, is [[LawOfChromaticSuperiority golden]] in colour, and is the prime reason why you're fighting, it's only the second boss out of 10 stages.
* EndlessGame: The game is ''supposed'' to loop indefinitely, but [[KillScreen the game crashes at the start of stage 5-1]], meaning only 4 loops are actually available.
* FakeUltimateMook: The first MiniBoss. You fight this huge thing right after the first wave of Mooks, but it goes down very quickly.
* FeatheredFiend: The MiniBoss of stage 4 is a giant robot eagle that can extend its talons to crush you.
%%* FlashOfPain
* GameBreakingBug: Quite a few:
** If the Stage 3 boss is defeated while it's using its laser attack, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZrELvCiyrw the laser will persist]] and continue to crawl around the screen until the player dies.
** The Stage 5 boss might trigger a crash and reset the game.
** The Stage 7 boss will crash into the ground upon defeat. However, its hitbox is still active and despite now being on the ground, flying over those remains ''can'' [[CollisionDamage kill you]].
%%* GiantSpider: A GiantMook faced in stage 8.
%%* HighSpeedBattle: The start of Stage 3 is like this.
%%* HomingLaser: The purple and the red weapon do this.
%%* HoverBoard: The first MiniBoss of stage 7 rides a large one.
* HumongousMecha: Many of your foes are these. You get to pilot an invincible one at the start of the final stage. And it is awesome.
* KillScreen: The game is supposed to [[EndlessGame loop indefinitely]], but [[https://youtu.be/5Hm4AFGv2sg?t=4601 it freezes at the start of the 5th loop]], effectively turning it into a 4-loop game.
%%* MacrossMissileMassacre: One of the {{miniboss}}es does this to you.
%%* MiniBoss: At least one per level.
* NamelessNarrative: Most of the characters have no names to them. The only character to ever have a confirmed name is Gaowing, the golden robot that kickstarts the plot.
%%* NintendoHard
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: The boss of stage 8 is a zombie robot thing.
* NitroBoost: The blue attachment allows the player to move quickly by holding down the second button. There is no drawback to this other than making you more prone to colliding with enemy fire.
%%* NoPlotNoProblem
* NumericalHard: Enemies get more health every time you complete a loop. They do give out more points, however.
* OneHitPointWonder: The player character is destroyed in one hit. If both players are combined, one landed hit will take both of them out.
* OneManArmy: Similar to many ShootEmUp games, the player(s) do get to mow down a few armies worth of mooks and bosses.
* PlayAsABoss: In the very final level of the game, the player is given an opportunity to pick up a PowerUp that transforms them into the mech on the title screen. Not only is it completely invulnerable, it also makes very short work of the two enemy mechs that come right up. However, it's rather slow and the powerup vanishes right before the FinalBoss is encountered.
* PowerAtAPrice: Combining player 1 and 2 is cool and increases your firepower, but if you are hit, ''both'' players lose a life!
%%* PrecisionGuidedBoomerang: The third boss throws these at you.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Your characters presumably do this after the gold mecha kills their friend.
* RocketPunch: The minibosses of stage 5 attempt this on you.
%%* SegmentedSerpent: You fight one in Stage 8.
* ShowsDamage: Electrical currents starts appearing on bosses as their health gets low.
* SmartBomb: The pink attachment allows the player to use one.
* SpreadShot: The green lightning gun. Many of your foes will use this too.
* ScaryScorpions: The fourth level features many scorpion mechs, the boss is a gigantic one.
* TankGoodness: The first boss. You also fight several tank-based enemies in the game.
%%* TechnoWreckage: Stage 8.
* TokenMotivationalNemesis: The game is kickstarted by a huge golden robot attacking and killing the protagonists' friend. He's chased down at the start of the first stage, starting the events of the game... and is only the second boss of ten.
* UnexpectedGameplayChange: At the start of stage 10, you get to pilot a HumongousMecha via powerup. More lenient tham most examples, though, as the mecha is invulnerable and cannot be destroyed.
* WaveMotionGun: The Blue weapon. You start out with this. Stage 2's boss and stage 3's boss also use this on you. Stage 5's boss uses one so massive, you have to hide behind one of his shielder drones to avoid it!
