In the Pixel Kingdom, one's place in the class system is entirely dependent on the number of pixels their sprite consists of. When the princess of the land awakens the power to connect to The Bit Stream, the evil Queen [=DeRezzia=] invades. After she steals the princess, as well as a large number of pixels from the land, only one villager has the will to give chase and save the day: Pip, a single, large, red pixel.

However, Pip does not remain 1-bit throughout his journey; he soon encounters the ghost of the knight Sir Elywn, who bestows upon Pip the power to use The Bit Stream in his own way. By defeating certain foes, Pip can transform his 1-bit self into 8-bit and 32-bit forms, and can willingly regress his form as needed. Each of these three forms will be needed in order to progress through stages, solve puzzles, and defeat [=DeRezzia=]!

!!This game makes use of the following tropes:
* BottomlessPits: Sends Pip back to the latest HealingCheckpoint and costs him 5 gold pixels.
* ConvectionSchmonvection: Being right next to molten lava never seems to inconvenience anyone.
* DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist: It costs 5 gold pixels to respawn, where there's hundreds in a level.
* EnergyBall: Used by multiple antagonists. In particular, Queen [=DeRezzia=] casts two purple orbs at once, which start off small but gradually expand as they travel down.
* FantasticRacism: In this world, the lower your resolution is, the less respect you get. "Low-res" is apparently a derogatory term.
* FeaturelessProtagonist: Played with. Pip starts out as a red rectangle, but gains features in his higher-res forms. At the end of the game, [[spoiler:he returns to his featureless form]].
* FlashOfPain: Damaged enemies will flash red.
* HealingCheckpoint: The green floating cubes restore Pip to full hitpoints when touched and are where he respawns if he falls into a {{Bottomless Pit|s}}.
* HeartsAreHealth: Only displayed when damaged, {{Heart Symbol}}s at the top left, 1 for each {{Hit Point|s}}.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: Queen [=DeRezzia=], the dark thief of pixels.
* GoodMorningCrono: The game begins with Pip's mother Mathilda exhorting him to get out of bed.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: Pip's 8-bit form is able to punch the enemies, or kick if he gets a running start, in addition to jumping on their heads.
* GoombaStomp: Pip will always be able stomp all the annoying mooks in his way, regardless of current form. In the 1-bit form, it is also his only means of dealing with them.
* HandBlast: Queen [=DeRezzia=] can either fire purple beams or cast energy orbs from her palms.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Pip's 32-bit form fights with a sword.
* InexplicableTreasureChests: These are placed all over the playable world.
* OnceUponATime: The intro text.
-->"Once upon a time, there existed a kingdom that could fit in the palm of your hand."
* PowerFloats: Queen [=DeRezzia=] spends all her time hovering near the ceiling thanks to the power of The Bit Stream.
* ShoutOut: Two for ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'':
** Sir Chad's guards are named Lenny and Carl.
** The temple in World 2 is called the "most cursed temple ever" -- a reference to Comic Book Guy's MadLibsCatchphrase.
* SpikesOfDoom: Sharp red spikes will frequently line the strategic surfaces in the game's world to make all platforming harder.
* SuperNotDrowningSkills: Pip can stay underwater for an indefinite period of time. However, only his 8-bit form is capable of swimming. 1-bit!Pip floats and 32-bit!Pip will sink like a brick.
* WallJump: An ability exclusive to 8-bit Pip. 32-bit Pip can try, but he barely gains any height.
