1	* AscendedFanon: It's minor, but the official [=iTunes=] soundtrack refers to the girl that turns into Uboa as "Ponico", a romanization of her long-standing FanNickname. Uboa remains unnamed, however.
2	* {{Defictionalization}}: Recreations of the ''NASU'' minigame are available on Kongregate, [=iOS=], and Android.
3	* DummiedOut:
4	** There are several large islands on the 8-bit plains map that can't be accessed without cheating. Version 0.09 contains an unused event where interacting with NASU in Dense Woods A or Windmill World would teleport Madotsuki to the unused continent.
5	** There are also sprites for an unused blindfold effect, as well as mugshots for unused WillOTheWisp and Greyscale effects (although it's also possible that Madotsuki would become greyscale in the White Desert).
6	** There was an unused version of Buyo-Buyo in the game's files where he was in the same artstyle as Madotsuki. These versions were used in versions .006 and .009, where it was found in the shack in the Barracks Settlement that contains the Seahorse in the latest version.
7	** Medamaude has three unused animations.
8	* FollowTheLeader: An astonishing number of people with time on their hands have taken to making fan games of ''VideoGame/YumeNikki''. The examples in FanSequel are only a few of the more well-known ones.
9	* FountainOfExpies: The protagonists of ''Yume Nikki'''s [[FanSequel spin-offs]] are {{expies}} of Madotsuki by default.
10	* ReclusiveArtist: Little is known about Kikiyama. They have made no other games aside from ''Yume Nikki'', never done any interviews or publicity, and everything about their real-world identity is a complete mystery, and when referring to themselves, they use deliberately gender-neutral language [[note]]In one confirmed email, they did use feminine pronouns, which led some fans to presume they're female or, otherwise, formerly identified as such, supposing that "Kikiyama" is one person.[[/note]]. They do have an email address, which Japanese-speaking fans have been able to wriggle a laconic response out of once in a blue moon, but otherwise, they've not said not a peep since 2008. This has continued even ''after'' official merchandise and adaptations began to be produced in 2013. In 2023, while Creator/TobyFox found them for an [[https://chartcarr.neocities.org/secretbase_4 interview]], all their questions were just answered with yes, no, and [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Rice Casserole with 3 Types of Cheese and Shrimp.]]
11	* UrbanLegendOfZelda: Several earlier versions of the game were said to have been released or published in Japanese gaming magazines with demo discs long before the full game was released. So far only versions .04, .06, and .09 have been found and dumped to the internet for anyone to download.
12	* TheWalrusWasPaul: The game is a dialogue-free, non-linear journey through the dream world of a girl who won't go anywhere while awake except for her bedroom and adjacent balcony. Good luck getting any answers about what any of the dream symbols mean, what happened in the ending, or what is up with [[spoiler:Uboa]].
