1* CaliforniaDoubling: Filmed on the Samuel Goldwyn Studios lot in West Hollywood. They actually tried to get permission to film in the Soviet Union, but Soviet officials pointed out that that would be just slightly impractical, what with UsefulNotes/WorldWarII still going on at the time.
2* TheCastShowoff: This was one of the few films in which Creator/DanaAndrews was able to show off his classically-trained singing voice.
3* CreatorBacklash: Creator/LillianHellman, who wrote the screenplay, did not appreciate the final film, which she described as a "big-time, sentimental, badly directed, badly acted mess."
4* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The movie was originally conceived as a documentary about the war in Russia. When that fell through, it became a "semi-documentary" film that would still be about the war in Russia, but filmed in Hollywood. Lillian Hellman's script was written for this version. Once production began, ExecutiveMeddling changed it into a typical wartime drama, much to the chagrin of Hellman.
