Context Trivia / Sealab2021

Go To

* ActorAllusion: In one scene of "Murphy Murph and the Feng Shei Bunch", Marco wears a Series/{{Chips}} helmet.
* ChannelHop: It aired its first three episodes on Creator/CartoonNetwork at early morning graveyard slots in late 2000. When Creator/AdultSwim first debuted in 2001, it moved there as it fit their demographics (it somewhat fits as Adult Swim has been considered a separate network for ratings purposes since 2005).
* CharacterOutlivesActor: Technically, Captain Murphy didn't die; he just left the station to lead the rebels in [[Literature/{{Dune}} "The Great Spice Wars"]].
* CreatorBacklash: Music/MCChris (animator, writer, and the voice of Hesh) has stated that he does not have any personal connections to the show anymore after dealing with an incident in which co-creator Matt Thompson [[https://m.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10155933550802279&id=25975147278 sexually harrassed him in the fall of 2001 while they were both drunk]], which led to personal struggles regarding his own sexuality (chris identified himself as straight at the time). He also [[https://twitter.com/_mcchris/status/1272662344087138304 did not approve]] of his character turning into a stereotypical transvestite hooker in “Dearly Beloved Seed”, ''especially'' after his experience with Matt.
* DVDCommentary: Present in all four seasons, although they did little to elaborate on production, but were there for additional jokes. Season 3 had a particularly memorable one called the "Commentary of Hatred" where blogger Karl Olson rips the episode "Tornado Shanks" (widely believed to be the beginning of the show's SeasonalRot) apart.
* ExecutiveMeddling:
** "Bebop Cola" was originally called "Jazz Cola", until the legal team found out an actual cola company had the rights to the name, and altered it to avoid legal issues.
** The episode "Feast of Alvis" was supposed to be a straight-up ChristmasEpisode... until the executives rejected it. Jesus was then replaced with Alvis, the worship of whom served to make Murphy look that much crazier.
--->'''Sparks''': Your "lord"? It's a baby ''with a freaking gun, roasting over a flood light!''
* MarthDebutedInSmashBros: [[WesternAnimation/Sealab2020 The original series]] never aired outside the U.S. (save for Latin America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Australia, Italian-speaking territories, Iran, Hong Kong, France, Spain, Germany, Russia, Sweden, and the Philippines), so almost every dub of ''Sealab 2021'' suffers from this.
* NoExportForYou: Oddly enough, this show never was shown in Spain, possibly because [[WesternAnimation/Sealab2020 the original series it was based on]] was never broadcasted there in the first place, in stark contrast with Latin America. The same goes with Japan and other Asian countries.
* PromotedFanboy: mcheshpants420, a member of the Creator/AdultSwim message board, who wound up writing "Fusebox" and "Dearly Beloved Seed". It's generally theorized that this is mc chris, one of the writers on the show and the voice of Hesh, simply mocking the fans.
* SerendipityWritesThePlot: "Feast of Alvis" was originally a ChristmasEpisode, but the network wouldn't allow it. So the writes invented a religion, making Captain Murphy look even more batshit.
