!!Trivia for the franchise in general:
* AllStarCast: It certainly qualifies, particularly the sequels.
* BreakupBreakout: After their stint in the movies, most of the actors who either appeared as Ghostfaces or supporting and cameo characters have gone on to have a successful career since then, namely Creator/TimothyOlyphant, Creator/LaurieMetcalf, Creator/LievSchreiber, Creator/JadaPinkettSmith, etc.
* ChannelHop:
** The first three films were released by Creator/DimensionFilms under Creator/{{Miramax}}'s ownership, and distributed by Creator/{{Disney}}. The Weinsteins later bought Dimension Films and the sequel rights and moved them under the umbrella of Creator/TheWeinsteinCompany, who released the fourth film. Following TWC's closure, their assets were purchased by Lantern Entertainment, which was later merged into Creator/SpyglassMediaGroup. The fifth ''Scream'' film was co-produced by Spyglass and Creator/{{Paramount}} Pictures, and distributed by Paramount. The first three ''Scream'' films are also now owned by Paramount, following Creator/ViacomCBS' minority purchase of Miramax.
** In regard to home video, Disney originally released the first three ''Scream'' films on VHS, Laserdisc, and DVD, but Creator/{{Lionsgate}} licensed the rights to Miramax' catalog after they were sold to [=BeIN=] Media Group, and released them on DVD and Blu-ray. Paramount Home Entertainment now has the rights to these films. The fourth film was released on DVD and Blu-ray by Anchor Bay before their purchase by Lionsgate.
** The first two seasons of the ''Scream'' TV series were on Creator/{{MTV}}, but ''Scream: Resurrection'' hopped to Creator/{{VH1}} following a [[TheShelfOfMovieLanguishment lengthy delay]].
* CompletelyDifferentTitle: Known as "Frissons" (Shivers) in UsefulNotes/{{Quebec}} and as "Pânico" (Panic) in Brazil.
* DivorcedInstallment: Creator/KevinWilliamson wrote a script for ''Film/Scream3'' that was never used, focusing on a "fan club" for the Woodsboro killers and the ''Stab'' movies seeking to [[FifteenMinutesOfFame become famous]]. Years later, he dusted off his old idea, removed all references to ''Scream'', and [[http://www.etonline.com/tv/129326_Kevin_Williamson_Talks_The_Following_Scream_3_Inspiration/ created]] the TV show ''Series/TheFollowing''.
* FakeAmerican: The Californian Sidney Prescott is played by the Canadian Creator/NeveCampbell.
* MutuallyFictional:
** In the first scene, the film ''Film/{{Halloween 1978}}'' is the subject of one of the questions Ghostface asks Casey. Later, ''Halloween'' is shown at a party, with Randy [[GenreSavvy loudly protesting the mistakes Laurie Strode is making]]. Then, in the ''Franchise/{{Halloween}}'' sequel ''Film/HalloweenH20TwentyYearsLater'', a couple of characters are watching ''Scream 2'' in one scene.
** Also, in ''Film/JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack'', the duo stumbles upon the filming of a ''Scream'' movie. The first movie in the series had a poster for ''Film/{{Clerks}}'', a movie in [[Film/TheViewAskewniverse the same continuity]] as ''Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back''. Jay and Silent Bob themselves also make [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLZE2r8IvoE a brief cameo]] in ''Scream 3'', where they mistake Gale for Connie Chung and try hitting on her, receiving [[FlippingTheBird a middle finger]] in response. (That said, the film being made in ''Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back'' isn't explicitly stated to be a ''Scream'' film; some fans believe it could have been a ''[[ShowWithinAShow Stab]]'' sequel.)
* RealLifeRelative:
** Creator/CourteneyCox and Creator/DavidArquette met on the set of the first film and were married by the third (though have since divorced).
** David Arquette's father Lewis and brother Richmond appeared in the second and third installments as Chief Hartley and an unnamed student that calls Gale out respectively.
** While neither of them worked on the same film together, actor Creator/TimothyOlyphant (Mickey from ''Film/Scream2'') and screenwriter James Vanderbilt (who co-wrote the screenplays for the [[Film/Scream2022 fifth]] and [[Film/ScreamVI sixth]] films) are distant cousins via the Vanderbilt family.
* RealitySubtext: Dewey and Gale's relationship of meeting in the first film, in love by the second, getting married in the third, going through a rough patch in the fourth, and [[AmicableExes divorcing but remaining friends]] by the fifth is basically a mirror image of what David Arquette and Courteney Cox went through in real life.
* TheRedStapler:
** The Ghostface mask was a pre-existing Halloween costume that was licensed for use in the films; in fact, this was a plot point in the [[Film/Scream1996 first film]], where the mask was part of a "Father Death" costume that was sold in many variety stores. After the first ''Scream'' came out, the real-life Ghostface costume became significantly more popular, something that is acknowledged in ''Film/Scream2''.
** The knife Ghostface uses is a Buck 120, which was discontinued four years prior the release of ''Scream''; fans wanting to get their own version either searched for the rare knife, got replicas, or instead bought the Buck 120's younger brother, the Buck 119, which has a shorter blade and blood groove. As of recently, the Buck 120 has returned to the Buck catalog, renamed the "Buck 120 General".
** Caller ID sales went up due to Ghostface's favorite tactic of harassing victims with threatening phone calls. This was also noted by the second film, in which Sidney uses Caller ID to identify a prank caller pretending to be Ghostface.
* ReferencedBy: In ''Literature/BeautifulMusicForUglyChildren'', one of the men terrorizing Gabe and his friends wears a ''Scream'' mask.
* RefittedForSequel: Two ideas from earlier films ended up being used for the fifth film. Namely, [[spoiler: the idea that the supportive boyfriend and best friend of the lead were the killers, and that the killers were both fans of the ''Stab'' movies, were originally considered for the second and third films, respectively.]]
* SequelGap: ''Scream 4'' came eleven years after its predecessor, with the fifth ''Scream'' film following it after the same span of time.
