Context Trivia / RedEye

* ActorAllusion:
** [[Creator/CillianMurphy Rippner]] is no stranger to [[Film/TheWindThatShakesTheBarley being directly threatened with a bat]]. [[Film/BatmanBegins Or a bat.]]
** When [[Creator/CillianMurphy Rippner]] and Lisa start to do discuss Rippner's job, Lisa makes a hypothesis that he is a [[Film/BatmanBegins shrink]].
** Also, Creator/CillianMurphy is in a movie called [[Film/TwentyEightDaysLater Red Eye.]]
** Received one of its own in ''{{Film/Inception}}'', another film that puts Murphy on a plane for the bulk of its run-time.
** The photo of Lisa playing hockey is actually a screenshot of Regina from ''Film/MeanGirls'' (though she was playing lacrosse instead of hockey).
** Lisa also says her grandmother had a relationship with a man called Duke. In ''Film/TheNotebook'', starring Creator/RachelMcAdams, her character's husband is nicknamed Duke.
* CreatorCameo: Various members of the crew have cameos and bit parts either as passengers on the plane or hotel guests.
* CreatorBacklash: In recent years Creator/CillianMurphy tends to be annoyed whenever Red Eye is brought up in his interviews, especially when people praise it. He himself is reluctant to praise anything about the movie that isn't Creator/RachelMcAdams. The things he is the most critical of are it's "shlockiness" and his own acting.
* DuelingMovies: Was released around the same time as ''Film/Flightplan2005'', which also revolves around a woman on an airplane terrified for the safety of a family member. This film though was a little better received.
* EnforcedMethodActing:
** When Lisa bumps into a woman and has coffee spilled on her clothes, Rachel [=McAdams=]'s reaction is genuine. She did not expect the coffee to be so cold, and it had spilled on her more than she had expected.
** Though not featured in the film, Cillian Murphy had missed the spot to throw Rachel [=McAdams=] while filming the lavatory scene, knocking her unconscious for half an hour. When they had to film the scene again, Murphy was afraid to. This scene can be found in the bloopers. The scene featured in the film briefly shows that Murphy has his hand behind [=McAdams=]'s head to protect it.
* ExecutiveMeddling: The terrorists were meant to be American, but the good people at FOX did not like the idea of this, hence why they switch from speaking English at the start to Russian later in the film.
* FakeAmerican:
** Cillian Murphy is Irish and Wes Craven was initially wary about casting him as Rippner since Rippner was explicitly written as American. When Murphy walked into the audition, he actually fooled the casting agent with his accent.
** Also, there's Canadian Rachel [=McAdams=] and Scottish Brian Cox.
%%* HilariousOuttakes
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Used in some of promotional material and DVD extras (despite being quite misleading). One of Rippner's eyes becomes red.
* ThrowItIn: The annoyed female customer that gives Cynthia trouble was someone Wes Craven met at a board meeting. After the meeting, he asked her to be in the movie.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Wes Craven initially wanted Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn to play the leads, but later opted to give it to younger leads.
** He also specifically wanted an American to play the role of Jackson Rippner, but he eventually gave the role to Irish actor Cillian Murphy.
** Lisa was [[spoiler: meant to stab Rippner in the neck]] with a Bart Simpson pen. They couldn't get the rights to use one, so they had a monster pen instead.
** Wes Craven filmed a cameo but he couldn't stop {{Corpsing}} so it was cut.
** In an earlier script draft Lisa had a different tragic backstory: [[spoiler: death of her husband.]]
* WriteWhoYouKnow: One of the hotel's obnoxious customers is based on (and played by) a [=DreamWorks=] executive.
