* CreatorCouple: James Bolam and Susan Jameson, although not married to each other in the show, have been married to each other for over 35 years, playing husband and wife in ''Series/WhenTheBoatComesIn''.
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Dennis Waterman performed the theme song, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_w9AAL8GeXM "It's Alright, It's Okay"]]. The British release of the first season DVD contains Waterman's cover version of "End of the Line" by Music/TheTravelingWilburys at the end of the pilot episode.
* EditedForSyndication: Some broadcasts of the episodes - including the ones available on UKTV Play - were cut down for time, losing subplots and character scenes. The streaming-service version of "The Queen's Speech" cuts out a sequence that featured playing a (plot-relevant!) 12-inch remix of Music/{{Wham}}'s "Club Tropicana", presumably because the music rights were not available.
* PlayingAgainstType: Several examples over the years.
** Creator/TimMcInnerny, known for playing foppish or pathetic characters on ''Series/{{Blackadder}}'' and an inept villain on ''Series/DoctorWho'', played the sinister [=MI5=] agent Stephen Fisher in Series 9.
** [[spoiler:Creator/RichardBriers]], known for playing the pleasant [[spoiler:Tom Good in ''Series/TheGoodLife'']], played a villain in "Old Dogs".
* RealLifeRelative: Gerry's [[spoiler:illegitimate and heretofore unknown]] daughter is played by Hannah Waterman, Dennis Waterman's real daughter. [[spoiler:Paternity tests prove that she's not his, but he refuses to tell her. She finds out.]]
* RecastAsARegular: Tamzin Outhwaite was cast as DCI Sasha Miller after appearing in an earlier episode, "Love Means Nothing In Tennis", as Victoria Kemp. [[spoiler: Who was that episode's murderer, so probably ''slightly'' more memorable to the audience than usual...]]
