1* DuelingGames: With ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom2'' (Online re-release).* ExecutiveMeddling: ** DC Comics signed on to the game, but refused to allow their heroes like Batman & Superman be seen killing or being brutally killed. Subsequently, the signature gore of the ''Mortal Kombat'' series was vastly toned down. ** The ESRB refused to grant the game it's desired T rating unless two specific fatalities by Deathstroke & the Joker featuring gun shots to the head were censored - this did not apply with other ratings boards; hence, both finishers can be seen in their entirety outside of the US.* TheOtherDarrin: The game replaced the Chicago-based voice actors from the [=PS2=] games in favor of a Califonia-based talent. Many of these roles would be retained in future ''Mortal Kombat'' games.** Scorpion and Shao Kahn are voiced by Creator/PatrickSeitz.** Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang) is voiced by Jim Miller.** Raiden is voiced by Creator/RichardEpcar.** Baraka and Jax are voiced by Dan Washington.** Sonya is voiced by Dana Lynn Baron.** Shang Tsung is voiced by James Kyson Lee.** Kano is voiced by Creator/MichaelMcConnohie.** Kitana is voiced by S.G. Willie.** Liu Kang is voiced by Tom Choi.** Quan Chi is voiced by Ronald M. Banks.* WhatCouldHaveBeen ** Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Reptile, and Quan Chi were originally going to be both playable and later DLC. They were left out due to both the deadline ''and'' the collapse of Creator/MidwayGames.** The idea for this game (when it was still the tentative ''Mortal Kombat 8'') was originally to follow the events of ''Armageddon'', with [[KillEmAll most of the cast dying]] in [[VideoGame/MortalKombatArmageddon the Battle of Armageddon]] in order to make way for a new cast. Scorpion and Sub-Zero would be survivors of the event. When it instead became a crossover with DC, these plot elements were modified and reworked into ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombat9 MK9]]'', only that instead of the ninjas, it ended up becoming Raiden and Shao Kahn.
