* AccidentalDownerEnding: ''Maradonia and the Law of Blood,'' the last published book, ends with a cliffhanger where [[spoiler:the protagonists are poisoned, slip into unconsciousness and then "deeper and deeper until they reach a very different place"]]. Then the creators decided to focus on the film adaptation ''Film/MaradoniaAndTheShadowEmpire'', which ended up being so horribly received that the ''Maradonia'' series as a whole was QuietlyCancelled and {{bur|yYourArt}}ied, so the last book, ''Maradonia and the Battle for the Key'', was never released even though it had been promoted as available for sale.
* FranchiseKiller: The TroubledProduction and financial failure of ''Film/MaradoniaAndTheShadowEmpire'' seems to have not only killed off the ''Maradonia'' series, but tainted Gloria's reputation to the point where she has evidently given up on it[[note]]As of January 2020: There hasn't been a new ''Maradonia'' release since the film, the websites are down, the ebooks are no longer available for purchase, and the only physical copies on Amazon are used.[[/note]] and is trying to distance herself from it. She released her next book, ''The Secret of Moon Lake'', under the name Sofia Nova and described it as her debut novel, effectively disowning ''Maradonia''.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: For some reason, the e-book re-releases are no longer available for purchase. The physical copies themselves seem to be out of print as well, since most, if not all copies currently being sold are used.
* ParodyRetcon: Following the release of a book trailer that could charitably be called "amateurish", Gloria Tesch's publicist responded to criticism by classifying the trailer as "obviously comic satire". Nobody bought it.
* QuietlyCancelled: The last book in the series, ''Maradonia and the Battle for the Key'', was promoted as though it had been published, but it was never actually released. The series as a whole was quietly abandoned after the failure of TheFilmOfTheBook from 2016 ''Maradonia and the Shadow Empire'', which ended on an orphaned WillReturnCaption.
