* BadExportForYou: [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_3#Regional_variations There are some specific examples of this happening when Fallout 3 was exported out of North America to Australia and Japan with one attempt to India before the development team decided not to bother with it.]]
* BannedInChina: Microsoft blocked the release of the Xbox 360 version in India due to it featuring a creature called the Brahmin, whose name and design might have offended Hindus.
* CelebrityVoiceActor: Creator/LiamNeeson as the Lone Wanderer's father, James.
* ColbertBump: Sales of Roy Brown's music on [=iTunes=] ''quadrupled'' shortly after the release of the game, which features his songs "Butcher Pete" and "Mighty, Mighty Man".
* CreatorBacklash:
** Chris Taylor, lead designer of [[VideoGame/Fallout1 the first game in the series]], mentioned in [[https://web.archive.org/web/20210718075531/https://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/831225/article/9668542 a 2012 Q&A on the BoardGameGeek forums]] that he "once said he'd only comment on ''Fallout 3'' if he had good things to say about it." [[StealthInsult He immediately changed the topic and did not discuss the game any further in the Q&A,]] the closest thing to a comment on it being that he found the VATS mechanic that ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas'' inherited from it to be overpowered.
** On a lighter note, the artists behind the Pip-Boy have admitted regret in how they designed it, mainly due to the FridgeLogic of the device having all of its knobs and switches on the left side of its screen despite being worn on the left wrist and operated with the right hand, meaning the screen would be obstructed during use. ''Fallout 4'' would see the Pip-Boy get a redesign to have the knobs placed on the right side of the device to rectify the issue.
* DevelopmentGag: Assuming the "Wasteland Survival Guide" quest ends with the guide's publication, the [[PlayerCharacter Lone Wanderer]] can snidely ask Moira Brown if she wants him/her to print and distribute the book, too. She replies it's not necessary. [[WhatCouldHaveBeen At one point you ''would'' have to get it printed -- that's what the Hubris Comics building is for, if you were curious -- but this got cut.]]
* FakeAmerican: English Creator/MalcolmMcDowell as President Eden and Northern Irish Creator/LiamNeeson as your dad James[[labelnote:*]]Who ironically [[OohMeAccentsSlipping ends up sounding more]] Irish than the "[[{{Oireland}} Irish]]" character.[[/labelnote]].
* FakeBrit: American Charlie Warren as Allistair Tenpenny.
* FakeIrish: American Mike Rosson as [[{{Oireland}} Colin Moriarty]].
* GodNeverSaidThat: It's commonly claimed, even on Website/ThisVeryWiki, that Colin Moriarty's ridiculous [[{{Oireland}} Oirish]] accent is [[StylisticSuck deliberately bad]], as he's faking it to seem trustworthy. This is contradicted ''in-game'' by Herbert Dashwood, who [[https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Tenpenny_Tower_terminal_entries#Megaton reminisces in his terminal entries]] about when Moriarty first arrived in America as a child.
* NewbieBoom: This was the first main-line ''Franchise/{{Fallout}}'' in nearly a decade, and the first from Bethesda Softworks, coming hot on the heels of [[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsIVOblivion their recent massive success]] and incorporating much of the same design, thus drawing many of those fans in. The resulting newbie boom reshaped the ''Fallout'' fandom forever.
* PlayingAgainstType: Creator/PaulEiding has taken a break from voicing tough, commanding [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid military leaders]] and [[{{WesternAnimation/Ben10}} badass, albeit eccentric grandfathers]] to provide a much softer performance for the various elderly men met in the game.
* UncreditedRole: The credits for the voice actors of the Mothership Zeta DLC don't seem to exist. Even the Fallout wiki only has [[https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Fallout_3_voice_actors#Mothership_Zeta_voice_actors listings for]] Sally and a few audio-only characters, and they were only added years after the page was made.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** A different game was going to be called ''Fallout 3'', but it got cancelled. We now know this one as ''VideoGame/FalloutVanBuren'' (with many ideas from that game being recycled into ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas''). More information on that one's page.
** According to the casting company that reached out to Creator/LiamNeeson and Creator/MalcolmMcDowell for their voice roles, there was a brief period where ''UsefulNotes/BillClinton'' was seriously considered (and even approached) for the role of [[PresidentEvil John Henry Eden]].
** The Fat Man was supposed to have a rocket-propelled model of a B-17 airplane carry the nuke.
** Originally, Daniel Littlehorn was going to be the leader of the Regulators, but this was changed - apparently, the change was rather late into development, since Littlehorn still has Good Karma, and there's unused dialogue for him that's essentially a mirror of the speech Sonora recruits the player with when they have the Lawbringer perk.
** There was a concept for a restaurant with large mascot (roughly as large as the Novac Dino) called the "Burger Bunker". [[https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/21284 Recreated by a modder here.]]
