* ActingForTwo:
** Almost every actor in the cast plays two characters -- one character in the normal world, and their parallel world counterpart. The only major exceptions are Creator/JonPertwee himself, since there is no Doctor in the parallel world (although he does play a radio announcer), and Christopher Benjamin, who plays Sir Keith Gold in the normal world, since his parallel world counterpart is already dead when the Doctor arrives there.
** Stuntman Derek Ware didn’t perform his own stunt where his character, the mutated RSF Trooper Wyatt, fell to his death from the top of one of the chemical tanks. Instead, it was done by fellow stuntman Roy Scammell, who then preformed the then-highest fall ever done by a British stuntman, at fifty feet.
* CreatorCouple: Director Creator/DouglasCamfield's wife Sheila Dunn plays Petra Williams.
* CreatorsFavouriteEpisode: Both Creator/NicholasCourtney and Creator/CarolineJohn named this as their favourite serial.
* DeletedScene: There was a scene with the parallel universe characters listening to the radio that was cut. The radio newscaster was actually Creator/JonPertwee doing one of his "silly" voices. It was however kept for international regions to add some light comedy to the story and show Pertwee’s talents. The only colour copy that could be found had this scene included, resulting in it being used when it was first re-released.
* FakeAustralian: Greg Sutton was played by the English Derek Newark.
* OnSetInjury: During the filming of one of the story’s chase scenes, stunt performer Alan Chuntz’s leg was run over. His leg was so horrifically injured he had to go to the hospital and upon learning of the injury, Pertwee himself fell ill for a few hours. He even gifted the actor a gift for an apology.
* ThrowItIn: Originally, the script had a generic Sergeant character whose alternate counterpart becomes a Primord. But when Douglas Camfield cast John Levene in the part, he remembered that the latter had played the similar character of Corporal Benton in “The Invasion”, and chose to bring the character back.
* TroubledProduction: Director Creator/DouglasCamfield had a heart attack during production, which left producer Creator/BarryLetts to do the in-house scenes he hadn't finished. Fortunately, Letts simply followed Camfield’s instructions.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Creator/KateOMara was considered for Petra Williams. She would later appear in the series a decade and a half later as the Rani.
** Section Leader Shaw was supposed to interrogate the Doctor, before ExecutiveMeddling made it so the Brigade Leader would do it instead, much to Caroline John’s annoyance.
* WorkingTitle: ''The Mo-Hole Project'', ''Operation: Mole-Bore'', ''The Mole-Bore'' and ''Project Inferno''.
* YouLookFamiliar:
** Derek Newark (Greg Sutton) had previously played [[Recap/DoctorWhoS1E1AnUnearthlyChild Za]].
** Sheila Dunn (Petra Williams) was [[Recap/DoctorWhoS3E4TheDaleksMasterPlan Blossom Lefavre]]. Both serials were directed by her husband Creator/DouglasCamfield.
