----
* The Simpsons, having escaped from the angry townspeople who tried to kill them and are now wanted by the EPA thanks to Homer's actions, are hiding inside a motel suite. Bart [[DrowningMySorrows is drinking a small bottle of whiskey to cope of what just happened]], and despite Marge's attempt to stop him, Bart finishes up the bottle and passes out, but not before he furiously rants out to Marge, Lisa and Maggie that he misses Flanders so much because of the latter's NiceGuy attitude. After what Bart has been through, you can't help but feel a little sorry for him. Even Lisa herself is full of distress as [[AllForNothing her successful efforts to convince the town to clean up the lake went out the drain thanks to Homer's actions]]; she even demands Marge to leave Homer while they rebuild their lives somewhere else.
-->'''Bart:''' ''(drunkenly)'' I miss Flanders..... ''(angrily)'' THERE, I SAID IT!!! ''(passes out)''\
'''Marge:''' Where's your father?\
'''Lisa:''' ''(bitterly)'' He went out. Let's quickly rebuild our lives when he's gone!
** And if that wasn't enough, Marge and the kids are extremely furious at Homer for a LOT of things he did: (1) for polluting the lake and driving the EPA to contain Springfield in a glass dome, (2) driving the townspeople, including their loved ones, in an attempt to kill them, (3) losing their home due to Homer's incompetence in fixing the sinkhole that destroyed it, (4) and marking themselves as wanted fugitives by the EPA. Even Homer's attempts to downplay his actions doesn't help it, along with his silent refusal to even explain why he polluted the lake (as he impatiently drove to get free donuts rather than wait in line at the waste treatment plant); even Marge sums it up with this quote as she lashes out at Homer for his actions:
--->'''Homer''': ''(seeing that Marge, Lisa and Maggie are angry at him for what he did)'' Look, I know I screwed up. This is big.\
'''Marge:''' ''(angry at Homer)'' It's HUGE!!! We're homeless!! Our friends want to KILL US!! Before we can even stay in the same room with you, [[WhatTheHellHero I need to know what was going through your mind when you didn't listen to me and DUMPED THAT SILO INTO THE LAKE!]]\
''(Homer mindlessly shrugs)''\
'''Marge:''' ''(angrily)'' '''''HOMER!'''''\
'''Homer:''' ''(gets nervous)'' I don't know what to tell you, Marge! I don't think about things. I respect people who do but I just try to make the days not hurt until I get to crawl in next to you again.
* Bart watching Flanders tuck his kids into their beds and making them snug and meanwhile, Homer's playing with [=Plopper/Spider-Pig/Harry Plopper.=] Bart comments, "So that's what snug is..."
** On top of that, Bart sneakily taking the hot chocolate Flanders offers when Flanders isn't there to judge him. There's something sad about how ''small'' Bart's "Oh my god" is, like this is the first time anyone's actually made him anything like this. Considering Bart's clear status as TheUnfavorite of the Simpson family, it makes sense why this one act of kindness causes him to become bitter towards his own bumbling emotionally stunted father.
--->'''Bart:''' Flanders helped us when we were in trouble.\
'''Homer:''' Who cares what Flanders did? He's not your father.\
'''Bart:''' (''bitterly'') I wish he ''was!'' \
'''Homer:''' You don't mean that, you worship me!\
'''Bart:''' (''bitterly'') Oh yeah? Look what I did to your PICTURE!! (''shows a photo of Homer that Bart doodled to make him look like Flanders'')\
'''Homer:''' ''(screams in horror in looking at the photo)''\
'''Bart:''' (''angrily'') Look at it! How do you doodily?! How do you doodily?! How do you doodily?!\
'''Homer:''' (''angrily'') WHY YOU LITTLE!! (''strangles Bart'') I'LL... STRANGLE-ANGLE YOU!!
** There's also Bart accidentally losing Flanders' good fishing pole during a trip to the lake together, resulting in him being choked out as punishment...except Flanders isn't strangling Bart at all, much to Bart's confusion. Flanders then moves to give him a reassuring pat on the back. Bart's first instinct is to brace himself and lash out...only to calm down when Flanders makes good on his word.
* When Marge sweetly decides to follow Homer to Alaska despite her misgivings after he tugs at her heartstrings ("In every marriage, you get one chance to say, 'I need you to do this with me'"), a cynical and drunk Bart says to her, "You just bought another load of crap from the world's fattest fertilizer salesman." Not only does this make you worry about the effect that [[YoYoPlotPoint Homer's constant swing from redemption to]] SnapBack has had on him over the course of the series, but the movie itself [[MouthyKid completely supports Bart's point]]--when Marge tries to use the same line on Homer later in the film, Homer scoffs at it, having apparently forgotten that he ever said it. And when Marge and the kids try to press the issue further by berating Homer for his selfishness, Homer angrily silences his family and forbids them from going back to Springfield before storming out to go to the local bar to cool down. This is the breaking point that causes Marge to leave with the kids while Homer's out and tape her farewell message over their wedding video.
-->'''Marge:''' Homer... in every marriage, you get one chance to say... I need you to do this with me.\
'''Homer:''' ''(beat)'' That... is the STUPIDEST thing I ever heard!\
'''Marge:''' ''(angrily)'' ''Homer Simpson!''\
'''Lisa:''' ''(angrily)'' We're saving Springfield!\
'''Homer:''' ''(angrily)'' Listen to me, all of you! We are staying! We have a great life here in Alaska, ''and we're never going back to America again!'' ''(slams the door)'' I HAVE SPOKEN! HMPH!\
''(Marge and the kids are disappointed as they watch Homer walk away into the snow, with an enraged Bart holding up his doodled picture of Homer looking like Flanders)''
* After the Simpsons manage to escape the mob and the dome using the sinkhole in the backyard, it immediately swells up and tears down the beloved Simpsons household.
* Homer returning to his cabin and finding none of the family, but [[DearJohnLetter a videotape]] where Marge announces that she and the kids are leaving him for good.
-->'''Marge:''' Okay, here it goes... ''Homer''...\
'''Homer:''' ''[[YouCalledMeXItMustBeSerious (briefly perks up and begins paying full attention to the tv)]]''\
'''Marge:''' I've always stood up for you. When people point out your flaws, I always say: "Well, sometimes you have to stand back to appreciate a work of art".\
'''Homer:''' ''(chuckling)'' ''Way'' back.\
'''Marge:''' Lately, what's keeping us together is my ability to overlook everything you do. And I overlook these things because...\
'''Homer:''' Because?\
'''Marge:''' [[TheTapeKnewYouWouldSayThat Well, that's the thing]]. [[WhamLine I-I just don't know how to finish that sentence anymore.]] So I'm leaving with the kids to help Springfield, and we're never coming back. ''(Homer becomes speechless after hearing this)'' And to prove to myself that this is the end... [[TapedOverTurmoil I taped this over our wedding video.]] Goodbye, Homie. ''([[SingleTear sheds a tear]] just before the video cuts out)''
** This may be [[SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct the single finest performance]] that Creator/JulieKavner has given in her history with the franchise. Creator/DavidSilverman had her record the scene one hundred times to [[EnforcedMethodActing make her sound properly emotionally drained]], and it shows: We're used to hearing Marge anxious, blissful, furious, even a weepy mess. But her [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness defeated, soul-bearing tone]] here makes the whole thing ''devastating''. Marge giving up on the man she loves to save her town is understandable but still an unwanted circumstance, and Kavner mines every nugget of emotion possible from the read.
** Then the tape cuts to what remains of their wedding dance, making it clear just how serious Marge is about all of this. And this is the same tape that she ran into a burning house to save.
--->'''Marge:''' I love you. ''(Marge and Homer [[TheBigDamnKiss share a kiss]])''
** It's easy to miss, but in the seconds of static transition, you can see in the reflection that Homer has crawled from the bed to right in front of the TV, looking [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone properly heartbroken]]. He's lost his beloved wife, his kids, and every bit of his old life, [[JerkassRealization all because of his own selfishness and stupidity]], and [[BreakTheHaughty it's shattered him to the core]].
** Before the video's background fades away to solely focus on Homer and Marge slow-dancing, you can see Carl, Lenny, Barney, Patty and Selma, Jacqueline, and Abe watching, all there to celebrate their child's/sister's/best friend's biggest day. It is a sobering reminder of how bit-by-bit Homer lost everyone who cared about him through his actions, how badly burned his bridges are.
** And then a DarkReprise of their love song [[Music/{{Carpenters}} "(They Long To Be) Close To You"]] is the background, and the music continues as Homer goes out to find them [[GrayRainOfDepression in the rain]].
--->'''Homer:''' ''(worried)'' [[PleaseDontLeaveMe Marge?! Kids?!]]
** When Homer looks at the empty bed with the tape, he drops a bouquet of flowers that he was presumably going to give to Marge.
** And if that wasn't enough, Homer gives up and falls unconscious on a heart-shaped floating piece of ice, which then breaks.
** Then it's followed by the biggest [[MoodWhiplash gut-punch for the audience]]: [[FadeToBlack the scene then fades to black]], with a ToBeContinuedRightNow gag.
** Even after being rescued by the Boob Lady, Homer angrily mutters that [[ItsAllAboutMe his family left him because they cared about the townspeople more than they care about him]] right before receiving his epiphany.
* Homer's DespairEventHorizon, as seen in the picture. Far from Springfield (but not as far as he thinks), his sled dogs are gone, his HeroicResolve running out, and too exhausted to argue with himself, he passes out in the snow. Good thing he gets woken up by a vision of the "Boob Lady".
** Homer gets another moment when he realized that [[FromBadToWorse he accidentally cost the townspeople's chance to escape the dome and accidentally setting the bomb from 8:23 minutes to 4:11 minutes]], prompting the enraged townspeople to drive him out from their presence by throwing rocks at him. And despite the townspeople's failed attempt to kill Homer at the Simpson house, [[NotWorthKilling they refused to do so again because they know that they will all die thanks to Homer's actions]], leaving him in much more grief than he felt. Only when learning that using a motorcycle can help him ride and throw the bomb up through the top of the dome, he regains his confidence.
* Flanders, the most [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} positive]] and [[ThePollyanna glass-half-full]] character in existence, isn't even attempting to look for an escape from the TimeBomb [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt going off]]. When Bart encounters him, Flanders has taken his sons to the church and is instructing them that [[CrossesTheLineTwice when they meet God, they should remember to be kind to him.]]
** Bart asking to stay with Ned and the kids during their last moments so that he can die ''pretending'' Ned is his dad. Made even worse by the fact that when Homer swings by and asks him to come with him to dispose of the bomb, implicitly (as Ned points out) asking Bart to share his final moments with him if they do get killed, ''he initially says no.''
* Dr. Nick's apparent death after [[BackForTheDead being absent for most of the movie]].
-->'''Dr. Nick:''' Bye everybody!
