Context TearJerker / FinalDestination

Go To

* When the remaining survivors make their second visit to the memorial for the plane crash victims, a distraught Carter carves his late girlfriend Terry's name onto the memorial plaque, emphasizing how even though she and the others got off the plane, they're still dying because of the crash.
* The end of ''Final Destination 5''. Though like most of the endings it was something to be expected, since you can't escape death. We have the two survivors that cheated death, now they move on. After hearing the freak out from the first movie, the happy mood changes to OhCrap. The plane sucks Molly out of the window seat as Sam desperately tries to hold on. She slips and dies getting sliced in half by the wing. Rather than panic Sam simply has a HeroicBSOD for a few seconds and then closes his eyes in acceptance before the fire burns him to death all while he's screaming in utter agony. Of course this turned into a SugarWiki/{{Funny Moment|s}} when the landing wheel just so happens to hit the last survivor... moments after he found out the man that he killed was gonna die in a few days anyway.
** Recalling to his very first premonition, Molly actually didn't die there. By not heeding Alex's warnings, Sam doomed Molly, which was why he was so devastated and entering HeroicBSOD; [[ItsAllMyFault he got Molly dead when she wasn't supposed to.]]
* ''Final Destination 2'' manages to make you feel sorry for almost everyone on Death's list. Some examples:
** When Nora tells Kimberly she has accepted that she's going to die because there's nothing left for her after her husband and her son's deaths.
*** Makes it ''worse'' when she's [[spoiler: getting her head cut off by the elevator, she starts screaming "I don't wanna die!"]].
** [[spoiler:Seeing Nora witnessing her son's horrible death and sobbing uncontrollably.]]
** During the scene where the remaining survivors realize that the survivors of Flight 180 created a ripple effect that caused them to cheat death before, Kimberly recounts how her mother died.
--->'''Kimberly:''' About a year ago my mom and I were at the mall. I was supposed to meet her outside, but I got caught up watching this news report about some kid that committed suicide. I kept thinking, "How can you strangle yourself in the bathtub? That's stupid." It felt wrong. And yet... I heard some gunshots and I ran outside. Some kids were trying to steal my mom's car. She tried to fight them off, she was a fighter, and they killed her. After the funeral I kept thinking that it should have been me. I guess everyone must think that. But I guess I was right.
** As Kat is stuck in her car, Clear goes to check if she's all right. Despite having been selfish and uncaring before, Kat tells her to search for Isabella, as she will be fine. It's the first time she shows empathy towards the rest of the group.
** Rory asking Kimberly if she knows if his death will be painful. When she doesn't have an answer, he gives her his apartment keys and asks her to get rid of "anything that will break [his] mom's heart."
** While her early friends fell more into WeHardlyKnewYe, it's not hard to feel very sorry to Kimberly when she thought that when at least she averted the deaths of her friends, there was ''another'' vehicle that killed her friends, and since she was the one driving and parking her car in that exact location, it was partially her fault and she had to bear with the fact that she's the SoleSurvivor in her old circle. Her anguished screaming and sobbing on Thomas' embrace just sold the scene.
* Alex is dead, we knew he was on the list. But after all that time with him, he's now gone. The fact that he died offscreen after a brick hits his head makes it worse.
* In ''Final Destination 3'', you can't help feeling sorry for Wendy when she realizes that her boyfriend Jason is still in the roller coaster. She was very desperate to get him off that ride since she was the one that had the premonition of the coaster crashing.
** Wendy's realization that her younger sister is also on Death's list makes her even more pitiful, when she's already a strong contender for the biggest [[TheWoobie woobie]] in the series.
** Creator/MaryElizabethWinstead does a good job making Wendy TheWoobie for the entire movie.
** Kevin is a bit of one himself, especially after it's revealed that he was planning to propose to his girlfriend Carrie, one of the people who didn't get off the roller coaster. And that Carrie was actually gonna cruelly break up with him.
** While he's more of a JerkassWoobie, you can't help but feel kinda bad for Ian in ''Final Destination 3'', as well. The scream he lets out after [[spoiler:Erin's Death]] is as bloodcurdling as it is heart-wrenching. Also he dies rather gruesomely.
* In ''Final Destination'', [[spoiler:when Tod is telling the FBI agents that his brother told him to keep an eye on Alex and that he stayed on the plane. The look on Tod's face when he realizes his brother died.]]
** Mr and Mrs. Waggner, [[spoiler:losing both their only sons, George and Tod, in the span of one month. Not only do they have to deal with losing George on Flight 180, but they're also left believing Tod "committed suicide" out of guilt for having George stay on the plane.]]
* In the film, learning Clear Rivers's backstory. You can't help but feel sympathy for a seventeen-year-old girl whose father was shot and who was neglected and eventually completely abandoned by her mother.
** Clear Rivers's death was also rather sad in the sense that, out of every character in each ''Final Destination'' film, she was the one who managed to outsmart death, even if it meant she wasn't necessarily 'alive.' She leaves the safety of a padded cell to help victims experiencing a similar fate. In the long run, helping is what kills her.
* In ''Film/TheFinalDestination'', [[spoiler:Samantha Lane's little boys see their mother die.]]
* Regardless of the quality of said franchise, the idea that several people are being hunted down by Death itself simply for trying to "cheat" death. Seeing as how powerful Death is, you'd think it would just give them quick, painless deaths, but instead goes out of its way to induce pants pissing amounts of fear and paranoia, only for the victims to die cruel and unusual deaths (though not all of them are unusual, the methods still seem cruel). The entire premise of ''Final Destination'' seems at least somewhat TearJerker ish given that Death is going on what basically consists of a RoaringRampageOfRevenge just because some people want to do what many people want to do; LIVE.
** Whether they realize it or not, these characters are practically forced to accept death at this point in their lives, because their attempts to outrun Death [[TheProblemWithFightingDeath are ultimately futile]] since Death will come after them very shortly...as well as when they're least expecting it.
* Just the fact that the majority of Death's victims throughout the series are teenagers and young adults cut down in their prime and the psychological, emotional devastation that does on their parents, relatives and friends.
** For nearly every death in the series, imagine the world of heartbreak any of their loved ones immediately have upon receiving the worst news imaginable: the death of their child, spouse, parent, sibling, relative, lover or friend.
