''The View'' is the fourth [[LongRunner longest-running]] daytime talk show in American history, airing weekdays on Creator/{{ABC}}. It is hosted by a panel of four or five celebrities who engage in news commentary, celebrity gossip, and newsmaker interviews. Usually the celebrities are female but they sometimes have had "guy-day Fridays" in recent years.

!!This TV show provides examples of the following:

* CharacterCatchphrase:
** "Have a great day everyone, and take a little time to enjoy ''The View''!"
** "Enjoy ''The View''!"
** "Welcome to **The View** y'all!" (usually delivered by Whoopi at the show's opening)
** Two at the start of Star Jones' run on the show - "I am a lawyer" and "Allegedly"- both of which were fodder for [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Creator/TracyMorgan Tracey Morgan's]] impersonation of her on the SNL skits of the late 90's.
* CampGay: The show's most frequent guest, Mario Cantone.
* ConspiracyTheorist: Rosie O'Donnell, during her turbulent hosting tenure in the tenth season, repeated the conspiracy theory that World Trade Center 7 -- the last building in the WTC complex to collapse on 9/11 -- couldn't have collapsed on its own, insisting, "[for] the first time in history, steel was melted by fire." ''Popular Mechanics'' quickly pointed out that the collapse of the Twin Towers and the resulting fires weakened the already-damaged support columns inside WTC 7 enough to cause their collapse.
* LongRunner: Since 1997. It's currently in its twenty-fifth season.
* RevolvingDoorCasting: Especially in recent years, it's been having a hard time hanging on to its co-hosts:
** Debbie Matenopoulos: August 11, 1997 - December 24, 1998, fired
** Creator/MeredithVieira: August 11, 1997 - June 9, 2006, left for the Today Show

** Creator/LisaLing: March 25, 1999 - December 5, 2002, left for the National Geographic
** Elisabeth Hasselbeck: November 24, 2003 - July 10, 2013, Fired from the show because they planned to reboot it: left for Fox News
** Creator/RosieODonnell: September 5, 2006 - May 23, 2007 then September 15, 2014 - February 12, 2015, left early initially due to failed contract negotiations but then left a month early because of her fight with Hasselbeck the first time, then for "personal reasons" amidst family issues.

** Creator/RosiePerez: September 15, 2014 - August 14, 2015, left to continue acting
** Creator/NicolleWallace: September 15, 2014 - August 14, 2015, refused a demotion to "contributor" (i.e. seat filler when the hosts are absent). Fired because of not being argumentative enough.
** Creator/RavenSymone: June 10, 2015 - October 31, 2016, left to focus on ''Series/RavensHome''
** Michelle Collins: July 13, 2015 - May 27, 2016, officially fired on June 16, 2016

** Creator/CandaceCameronBure: September 28, 2015 - December 9, 2016, left because of her heavy schedule
** Sara Haines: September 6, 2016 - August 2, 2018; announced in July 2018 that she'd leave to co-host a third hour of ''Good Morning America''. September 8, 2020-present; came back after the retooling of the third hour of GMA following numerous occasions of guest hosting throughout mid 2020.
** Jedidiah Bila: September 7, 2016 - September 18, 2017; abruptly left on the latter date after announcing her departure
** Sunny Hostin: September 19, 2016 - present
** Meghan [=McCain=]: October 9, 2017 - August 6, 2021; Left because she had been based in Washington DC during the pandemic and wanted to stay there full time after splitting time there. She later said she felt she was bullied out of her job.
** Abby Huntsman: September 4, 2018 - January 17, 2020; left for personal reasons
** Ana Navarro: November 2, 2018 - present. Contributor 2013-18. Weekly guest cohost 2018-22. Promoted to regular host (though still commuting) in 2022.
** Alyssa Farrah Griffin: September 6, 2022-present.
*** This means that at least one member of the panel has changed every year since 2013. In fact, in 2014 and 2015 the whole panel changed between seasons except for Whoopi Goldberg.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere:
** In the summer of 2006 the panel (which consisted of Barbra Walters, Joy Behar and Elizabeth Hasselbeck plus guest host Lisa Loeb) was having a discussion about the “morning after” pill which stops pregnancy. When Elizabeth got over emotional Barbra gave her a lecture about how to have discussions appropriately and not go crazy. When the show cut to commercial Elisabeth stormed off in anger because she didn’t like how she was talked to and in an expletive laden rant caught on hot mic because she did not turn her mic off she explained to Joy who was chasing after her after she stormed off about how she felt she was treated on air. Producer Bill Geddie was able to track her down and get her back on.
** During an interview segment, a comment made by Bill O'Reilly so upset Joy and Whoopi that the latter two left the conversation and went backstage together. They eventually returned to their seats, but Barbara admonished them at the beginning of the show on the next day.
** Music/{{Prince}} did this when he was weirded out by one of the hosts admitting they "been wanting to make love to him". He gave a quick "Bye!" and quickly stormed off.
* TalkShow: One of the definitive American examples.
* TeamMom: Barbara, who hired all of her co-hosts. Even though she has retired from the show, this has not changed, as the other women of ''The View'' still see her as a leader and a hero.
* TransAtlanticEquivalent: Creator/{{ITV}} has a similar show, ''Loose Women'', which premiered in 1999.
