''The Graham Norton Show'' is a [[Creator/TheBBC BBC]] [[TalkShow chat show]] initially running on BBC Two from 2007, then on BBC One from 2009. Airing late on Friday evenings, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin it is hosted by]] Graham Norton, an Irish-born comedian who'd previously presented more niche, adult-oriented chat shows.

The show has a freewheeling style, with all guests coming on at the same time and talking with each other as much as Graham. The fun is helped along by Graham's affability, a research department that is exceptionally adept at digging up little details that even the guests have forgotten about, and a healthy amount of alcohol to loosen tongues.

The last part is occasionally responsible for sending shows off the rail, such as when Creator/MarkWahlberg infamously showed up drunk to one taping, more or less hijacked the proceedings, and made entertainment news headlines.

Most shows are capped with "Stories From The Red Chair", where audience members tell stories in the eponymous chair. If the story is uninteresting, or if Graham or guest simply takes a disliking to the person in the chair, the unfortunate individual is ejected thanks to a handy lever Graham keeps at his side.
----
!!"Let's bring some tropes on!":

* AccidentalPervert: While promoting ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', Creator/JamesMcAvoy almost dropped his drink on the floor but caught it in a way that made it seem like he was trying to sneak a peak at Creator/JenniferLawrence's crotch. She made sure to tease him about it.
* {{Acrofatic}}: Creator/RebelWilson discusses her martial arts training, and Graham and the other guests watch in awe as she does a nunchuck routine.
* ActuallyPrettyFunny:
** Creator/DanStevens finds the various tweets about [[spoiler:Matthew's death]] in the ''Series/DowntonAbbey'' finale hilarious.
** These are [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrwnzT8vK0w the reactions]] of Creator/JamesMcAvoy and Creator/MichaelFassbender when they're shown some of the RuleThirtyFour fan art of themselves.
** Creator/BenAffleck has this reaction when Graham pulls up some of the reactions to him being cast as the new Batman.
* AffectionateNickname: Graham affectionately calls Creator/RobertDeNiro 'Bob'. When he appeared with Creator/TomHiddleston, the latter kept asking if he could call him that as well.
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: After noticing James Corden had been flirting with both Creator/JessicaBiel and Creator/BradleyCooper, Sarah Millican had this to say:
-->"I've just realised I'm the only one on this couch you haven't hit on. Do something ''now''!"
* AudienceParticipation:
** The audience is usually involved somehow with Graham's opening skit before the titles.
** Graham usually talks to audience members who have submitted stories (usually embarrassing) beforehand. Often, the person telling the story is [[ImYourBiggestFan a huge fan]] of one of the guests on that particular episode.
** The "Story in the Red Chair" at the end of each episode, where a few members of the audience sit in the eponymous chair backstage, telling an embarrassing story about themselves to Graham and the guests through his computer screen. If the story is good, they are allowed to walk off but if it is bad or boring, Graham pulls a lever beside him and they are tossed backward.
** When Creator/AndrewGarfield, Creator/EmmaStone, and Creator/JamieFoxx appeared to promote ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan2'' - Graham got several members to demonstrate their 'special abilities'.
** When Creator/JenniferAniston guest starred, Graham casually said "so no one told you life was gonna be this way" and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsXXGwspfNk the crowd did the synchronized clap]] from the ''{{Series/Friends}}'' theme song. Jennifer was genuinely moved by the gesture. And they did it whenever someone else said that line throughout the episode. This gag was brought back for Creator/MatthewPerry's appearance on the show two years later (albeit only in the cold open).
** When Music/JustinTimberlake appeared, various audience members demonstrated their favorite dance moves. Justin assisted one lady with hers.
* AudienceParticipationSong: During her second appearance on the show, Music/{{Sia}} said that this was a singing tip Music/{{Adele}} gave her; when you're having trouble hitting the right notes, hold the mic out to the audience!
* AutoTune: Graham brought in an autotune mic for an appearance by Music/{{Cher}}, ultimately resulting in him and Creator/DawnFrench singing a bit of "Believe" into it, which was quite awesomely followed by Cher herself with ''zero'' distortion.
* BigEater: Creator/JessicaBiel confessed to being one. She was on a strict diet for ''Total Recall'' but [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy1MsAStb1M on her cheat day]], happily describes herself as getting twenty-four donuts from Dunkin' Donuts along with two large pizzas - and stuffing her face completely.
* BilingualBonus:
** When a Red Chair guest from Mexico told his story, Creator/SalmaHayek was able to guess what the punchline was and could be seen chuckling to herself before he had finished[[note]]He had a gordito stand in London and decided to shout out his product name as they do in Mexico City. Unfortunately one day there were a lot of Spanish tourists around, and 'gordito' also translates as "little fat boy"[[/note]].
** Creator/JessicaChastain and Creator/KirstenDunst gleefully tell people their favorite German curse words.
* BlackComedy: Graham takes [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnIyOwgnITo an astonishing amount of delight]] at reading Creator/NicoleKidman a letter from the Honolulu Zoo, which states that Hōkūlani, an elephant with which she shares a Hawaiian name due to them being born around the same time, was murdered by another elephant because it was jealous of the affection she was receiving.
* BrickJoke:
** Creator/SteveCarell, Creator/KristenWiig, and Creator/ChrisODowd noticed a large fly in the studio, prompting a brief discussion on the best way to kill a fly. A few minutes later, O'Dowd takes a sip of his drink and discovers, to his horror, that [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKM4FdApxQA the fly had landed in it]] and [[IAteWhat he'd partially chewed the bug!]]
** One audience member interviewed by Graham mentions offhandedly in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2TAqpa4dBo this clip]] that she had ditched a date to come to the show. Later on, who should appear in the Red Chair to ask for another date than the guy she ditched? [[KickTheDog In response]], she asks Music/KylieMinogue to pull the lever on him, which even Graham thinks is cold.
** Crossover example: Creator/CharlieHunnam told a story on Series/JimmyKimmelLive (to substitute host Creator/KristenBell) about how he was asked by the most popular girl in his school to be her prom date, much to his excitement. But then one day before the prom, she told him she was only joking and ended up going with another man instead. He ended up having to go alone, but his sweet mom offered to come with him. A week or so after telling this story on that show, he appears on The Graham Norton Show, and when they get to the Red Chair, one of the first people on the chair is a man named Sebastian, who tells a similar story of asking a girl out to the prom, not realizing she was going with someone else - that someone else was Charlie. The penny then dropped for Charlie, much to his amusement and everyone else's.
--->'''Charlie Hunnam''': Sebastian Lippiatt! YOU DIRTY BASTARD!
* UsefulNotes/BritishAccents:
** ''Literally any time Creator/JohnBishop is on.''
** Micky Flanagan got Creator/HaydenPanettiere to do a rather convincing cockney accent - after she admitted not understanding half of what he was saying.
** Creator/BillMurray also said that the women in the audience probably swooned when hearing Hugh Bonneville saying [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfEVLzd5j7Q "my favorite woolly jumper"]] in his IAmVeryBritish accent.
** Creator/CameronDiaz and Creator/JamieFoxx were taught how to pronounce things in a cockney accent.
** Creator/ChrisPratt revealed that his wife Creator/AnnaFaris fell in love with ''Series/TheOnlyWayIsEssex'' when visiting while he was shooting ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy2014''. This had the unintended side effect of Chris Pratt learning how to imitate the way the people on the show talked, and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af7UD-IxzZI he pulls it off with remarkable precision]].
** Kim Cattrall shows that she can slip into a Liverpool accent quite easily - since she has family from there.
* BrooklynRage: Creator/HaydenPanettiere parodied this when Graham remarked she didn't seem like a typical New Yorker. She proceeded to quote ''{{Film/Goodfellas}}''.
* ButtMonkey:
** If Olly Murs appears, expect him to get an especially hard ribbing.
** Creator/EddieRedmayne got roasted quite a bit as well.
** All of Josh Widdicombe's appearances so far end up with him getting the mickey taken out of him by the other celebrities:
--->'''Josh Widdicombe:''' Every time I come here I get abused by Hollywood stars!
* CampGay: Graham himself; he doesn't come off as flaming but his clothes and some of his mannerisms convey the theme. This apparently led to Creator/StanleyTucci modelling his portrayal of [[Characters/TheHungerGamesFilmCapitol Caesar Flickerman]] off him ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_7sqzL3b9g as he related]] when he appeared on the show).
* CanineCompanion: The late Creator/CarrieFisher brought her dog on with her in her first appearance.
* CelebrityResemblance:
** Dame Creator/JudiDench discussed in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lVjKtQfT9o this interview]] how her grandson looks very similar to Music/EdSheeran, including an incident where the two of them were stopped by people who asked for a photo, and then told Judi "No, not you."
** Music/EdSheeran himself, when he appears on the show, also addressed this--claiming that he has had no shortage of fans "thanking" him for either being asked out or getting laid by women for being mistaken for him. And then, the other similarly-looking ginger on the couch, comedian Josh Widdecombe, laments all he got for it was mistaken abuse directed for Ed.
** An episode with Creator/MattSmith had a man in the Red Chair also named [[https://www.facebook.com/matteleven/ Matt]], who as Creator/JimmyCarr put it "looks more like you than you do."
** When Creator/BryceDallasHoward and Creator/ThandiweNewton appeared together, they related how they tend to get mistaken frequently for Creator/JessicaChastain and Creator/ZoeSaldana, respectively. (Howard even suggests this is OlderThanTheyThink--in that apparently, her and Chastain share many acquaintances who even tend to mistake them ''even before'' they got to Hollywood.)
* ContrivedCoincidence: One Red Chair guest was flipped for claiming that Czech women had a tradition called 'Whipping Day'. Literally the next person on was a Czech woman - who confirmed the story.
* CrazyPrepared: The research department is able to discover some truly obscure and embarrassing facts about guests and have evidence prepared to back up their claims (such as somehow finding Creator/MelissaMcCarthy's original headshots when she was convinced she had the only copies left). The show even has contingencies in place for if a guest takes the lever away from Graham to prevent him from flipping people in the Big Red Chair (he just has to mime cranking the lever to signal the booth to play the sound effect and activate the chair).
* DidntThinkThisThrough: When Creator/CameronDiaz insists that of ''course'' "regular" guys can ask her out on a date, Creator/RichardAyoade immediately questions her on what the ratio of asked-to-actually-going out is. She clearly doesn't want to answer, and is saved by Music/KylieMinogue assuring everyone that it's rare to actually ''be'' asked.
* DirtyOldWoman: Creator/MiriamMargolyes speaks very frankly on all subjects, whether it's her negative opinion of Hollywood, how she feels arousal when around certain people (including a memorable recollection of meeting Sir Creator/LaurenceOlivier as a young woman), or how she used to perform sex acts on random men she met.
* DoubleTake: Graham when one Red Chair guest's story involved a friend simulating fellatio with an ice lolly.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: During the show's BBC Two days, it retained some of the sexual appeal and adult humour and segments that Norton's Channel 4 shows contain, although to a lesser degree (being that there was no nudity of any kind). When the show moved to BBC One, this was thrown out completely in favour of featuring more guests and dialogue humour, although there is still the occasional sexual jokes and occasionally strong swearing. This change was due to Norton deeming that his sense of humour had changed as he got older.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: Creator/JamesCorden describes his bromance with David Beckham as this. Apparently, his girlfriend can tell when David sends him a text, from the giddy smile on his face. He also told Creator/BradleyCooper "you're fit" to his face, assuring him he was sexier than Creator/RyanGosling.
* FemininityFailure: Creator/JenniferLawrence happily talks about an EpicFail when [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kjp3PTeXBew she tried to be an Abercrombie & Fitch model]] - she did a photo-shoot with other models playing football on the beach. Her pictures never came out and when her agent wrote to ask why, they only responded with the pictures, which showed Jennifer with a GameFace, nostrils flared and sweat pouring down her nose.
* ForcedPerspective: They did a hilarious opening joke with Graham showing off his ride to actor and car enthusiast Creator/MattLeBlanc and urging him to take it for a drive. Then Matt walks up to the "car", which is a little toy strategically positioned in front of the camera.
* FullNameBasis: Tends to do this with his guests. With all the compilation videos, it's surprising no one has done one of him doing this.
* FunnyForeigner: When Creator/GerardDepardieu appeared on the show in 2012 and ended up telling Olly Murs that he would "look like bullshit" when he is older and calling Creator/DamianLewis 'William'.
* GoshDangItToHeck: A lot of American guests (especially if it's their first time on the show) will self-censor and ask if it's okay to say certain words, not realizing that the British are more lax about profanity and obscenity than they're used to. Because of this, you have people like Creator/MichellePfeiffer asking if she can say "hell" and Creator/WhoopiGoldberg asking if it was all right for her to say "pubic hair" on air.
* HeadTiltinglyKinky: Creator/MichellePfeiffer and Creator/JenniferSaunders [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8THx3lxNrfQ have this reaction]] when checking out Jennifer Saunders's porn pictures. See OneSteveLimit below.
* HeightAngst: On multiple appearances, Creator/TomHolland, who is 5' 8", has cheerfully complained about how annoying it is to act alongside co-stars who are much taller than he is. Such as when shooting scenes with Creator/ChrisPratt, who is 6' 3", for ''Film/AvengersEndgame'' and how he accidentally ended up looking shorter because he was standing in a dip on set when cameras started rolling. And about shooting Spider-Man stunts with Creator/{{Zendaya}}, who's 5' 10", and how the rigging needs to be set to her height for safety reasons, causing him to often swing uncontrollably during landings (since her feet land first), resulting in Zendaya instinctively catching him in a bridal carry, frustrating him because he's supposed to be the hero.
* HiddenDepths: Some interesting background details about various guests can be revealed:
** [[Series/DowntonAbbey Dan Stevens]] did stand-up comedy in college.
** Creator/TomCruise can do a Donald Duck impression.
** Creator/RebelWilson is trained in how to use nunchucks.
** Creator/SethMacFarlane in addition to being the ManOfAThousandVoices is actually a really good singer too.
** Creator/KateBeckinsale apparently plays around with a pantomime horse costume when bored.
** Graham is an agony uncle for [[UsefulNotes/BritishNewspapers The Daily Telegraph]], a job he takes entirely seriously.
--->'''Graham:''' We now return to my frequent theme of choices and consequences.
* IAteWhat: Creator/ChrisODowd, appearing with Creator/SteveCarell and Creator/KristenWiig, took a sip of his drink and had to pause when he found an unexpected piece of ice in his mouth. Only it wasn't a piece of ice, it was an enormous fly that he'd partially chewed! Kristen Wiig was beside herself as the audience reacted in disgust.
* IdenticalStranger: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q__7yWbBTo During an appearance]], Creator/MattSmith was confronted with an audience member who looked uncannily like him, to the shock of everyone. As a topper, the audience member was also named "Matt".
-->'''Graham:''' Oh my God!\
'''Creator/JimmyCarr:''' He looks more like you than you do!
* InVinoVeritas:
** Practically every guest on the show is provided with alcohol before and during tapings which helps the wacky and loose style of the show. Creator/MarkWahlberg once infamously came on completely soused and practically hijacked the show with his antics and rambling. Graham's response: "I've probably done worse."
** Creator/HaydenPanettiere had also had a few when she appeared alongside Dan Stevens and Micky Flanagan. During the musical performance, she got up onto the stage and danced with the back-up dancers.
** The episode involving the three stars of ''Film/TheMonumentsMen'' (Creator/MattDamon, Creator/BillMurray and Hugh Bonneville) also became infamous for this (since the three of them downed every glass served to them), with the antics being taken up a notch when Paloma Faith joined them on the couch. To quote their co-star Creator/GeorgeClooney when he appeared in a later episode:
--->'''George:''' They left the premiere, I left them drunk. And they got here, and they got drunker!
** When promoting ''Film/XMenApocalypse'', Creator/JenniferLawrence and Creator/JamesMcAvoy came on clearly loaded. Jennifer even made a not-so-subtle TakeThat to UsefulNotes/DonaldTrump.
* InsultBackfire: On an episode with Creator/MilaKunis, Creator/JudeLaw, Dame Creator/JudiDench and Olly Murs, Graham pulled up an old tweet of Olly's - asking which celebrity he'd love to have babies with...and it was Mila Kunis. Olly buries his face in his hands, but Mila coos and says she's flattered.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: Creator/JessicaChastain and Creator/SaoirseRonan both demonstrate the fighting skills they learned while wearing their fancy dresses.
* LampshadedDoubleEntendre:
** Graham talking about an infamous nude scene from an episode of ''Series/GameOfThrones'' involving Creator/EmiliaClarke:
--->'''Graham:''' That might be the episode to go for, Matt.\
'''Creator/MattLeBlanc:''' Then I can really see [[CatchPhrase how you're doin']].
** Also acknowledging Creator/BryanCranston's past career of working for a dating agency. Graham even got the three guests to put out their own entendre-heavy dating videos, as shown in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsEPGc72Iuk this clip]]:
--->'''Bryan Cranston:''' If you like threesomes, just remember: I like Series/MalcolmInTheMiddle.\
'''Creator/EddieRedmayne:''' If you're looking for a [[Film/FantasticBeastsAndWhereToFindThem fantastic beast, I know where you'll find one]].\
'''Creator/BenedictCumberbatch:''' If you're feeling a bit [[Film/DoctorStrange2016 strange, the doctor will see you now]].
* LighterAndSofter: ''The Graham Norton Show'' is considerably tamer and less sexual than his previous shows, which featured muscular men in fetish gear who'd wear collars and leashes to escort guests onto set.
* MundaneUtility: Creator/KateWinslet confesses to keeping her Oscar in her bathroom--to allow anyone to play with it when they go in.
* OddFriendship: Sometimes, even the oddest guest combinations hit it off and produce the most interesting and funny episodes. In fact, a panel comprised of the major cast of ''one'' movie can normally be classified a bland episode--unless the cast hits off really well precisely because of their disparate backgrounds. The producers are so well-aware of this there is even [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3EW44vCS98 an official video]] highlighting some of these moments.
** Creator/JamesCorden got on astonishingly well with Creator/JessicaBiel. After her BigEater moment outlined above, his response was "I honestly didn't think I could find you more attractive" and she made jokes about [[ArentYouGoingToRavishMe him making a pass at her]] routinely. Sarah Millican also got involved, and excitedly compared food stories with Jessica.
--->'''Graham:''' This is like some sort of over-eaters anonymous meeting.
** Creator/GerardDepardieu, Creator/DamianLewis and Olly Murs. It started with them all sharing their own personal 'accidental peeing' stories and went uphill from there.
** Creator/ZacEfron, Creator/MattLeBlanc and Creator/LeeMack.
** Creator/MiriamMargolyes and [[Music/TheBlackEyedPeas Will.i.am]].
** Creator/BillBailey, in the context of this show, usually serves as ''the'' Odd Friend to the Hollywood guests in his appearances, like Creator/DenzelWashington, Creator/NicholasHoult, Creator/JulianneMoore, Cuba Gooding Jr., Creator/MattDamon and Creator/JessicaChastain. Which is a remarkable feat for a comedian (considering they normally stick out like a sore thumb in the conversation when lumped with Hollywood guests and/or pop stars).
** Music/TaylorSwift and Creator/SaoirseRonan, after the former gushed about the latter's performance in ''Film/{{Hanna}}''.
** Music/KatyPerry and Creator/JamesCorden.
** Graham and Creator/RobertDeNiro. De Niro enjoys being on the show enough to have made multiple appearances over the years [[ReclusiveArtist despite disliking going on chat shows]]. He continues to be as reticent as ever, but Graham's gotten him to open up more than any other chat show host by making sure that the panels are loaded with people De Niro's worked with who can prod him to tell stories of their past projects.
** Music/LadyGaga and [[Series/EastEnders June Brown]].
** The aforementioned panel of Creator/MattDamon, Creator/BillMurray, and Hugh Bonneville could also count.
** Dame Creator/JulieAndrews and Creator/JonahHill, who walked out announcing they were engaged and flirted playfully throughout the night. Also in that same interview, Andrews and Pharrell Williams.
** Creator/SamuelLJackson and Creator/KeiraKnightley. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKmn1ZGDbLg This clip]] from the tail-end of the episode when both of them talk about shooting sex scenes in film is surreally hilarious.
** Sir Creator/IanMcKellen and Music/OneDirection. Sir Ian came out wearing a One Direction t-shirt too.
--->'''Music/HarryStyles:''' You're amazing.\
'''Ian:''' So are you.
** In a unique case of the entire guest lineup actually managing to do this (precisely because of their disparate work mixed with mutual SelfDeprecation): Creator/ArnoldSchwarzenegger, Creator/EmiliaClarke, Creator/JakeGyllenhaal, and Creator/CaraDelevingne.
** Creator/JulieWalters and Music/FiftyCent, to the degree where he allowed her to feel his gunshot wounds ''in his mouth'', as shown in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m0TrwXFVls this clip]].
** Creator/TomHanks and Creator/PeterCapaldi played up how they both won Oscars at the same ceremony in 1995 (Capaldi winning for a Live-Action Short the same year Hanks won his second Best Actor award for ''Film/ForrestGump'') so as to tease David Walliams about not having one, as shown in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmMHP6JxU4s this clip]].
--->'''Tom Hanks:''' ''(feigning frustration)'' What is the theme of this show if you don't have one?!
** Greg Davies and Creator/RyanGosling hit it off a little, as noted under Corpsing above, and got on quite well.
--->"I won't forget the day Ryan Gosling high-fived me because I'm officially disabled."
** Greg Davies also managed to strike up a bromance with Anthony Joshua on both of their appearances together, and it is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7Tr0IKsR5Q glorious.]]
** Music/MichaelBuble, Creator/CareyMulligan, and Creator/TaronEgerton, all bound by their vocal talents - to the point to where Michael even excitingly, yet jokingly (we assume) said that they should form a band. This relationship blossomed further once Sir Creator/IanMcKellen came on later in the show, wanting in on this band idea. Additionally, this was Michael's first appearance on the show since a nearly-tragic family emergency made him take a break from the industry for a year, and gushed to Graham about how much he loved the show and being on with all these celebrities, continuing to gush over everyone on the couch.
** Creator/DavidTennant and Music/GloriaEstefan both appeared together on the show in 2018 and hit it off, then appeared together again in 2019. Creator/MichaelSheen said that he fell in love with Gloria after watching that episode.
--> David Tenannt: I'll only do this show if you're on.
* OhCrap: Creator/LiamNeeson when he met his first confirmed fan in one episode. At first, he thought she was [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tJoNoOAY9Q someone else]]...
* OldShame: Graham will almost always try (good-naturedly, of course) to dig out some of the more embarrassing things his guests ever did:
** Creator/MelissaMcCarthy's first headshots.
** Creator/BilliePiper's early music career.
** Creator/PeterCapaldi hilariously cringing at his old modeling photos, the punk band he was in with Creator/CraigFerguson, or his childhood letters to the ''Doctor Who'' producers.
** Creator/HarrisonFord accidentally punching Creator/RyanGosling in the face for real while filming ''Film/{{Blade Runner 2049}}''.
** On that same note, any time the Oscars ''Film/LaLaLand''/''Film/Moonlight2016'' mix-up is mentioned to a guest who was at the event who had a notable reaction. (i.e., Creator/RyanGosling's stifled laugh, Creator/NaomieHarris -- who was in ''Moonlight'', the film that did end up winning -- describing the chaos or Creator/DwayneJohnson's concerned people's eyebrow), Graham even went as far to actually ''get'' Creator/WarrenBeatty on to talk about it.
** [[Series/{{Friends}} Matt LeBlanc]] doing a film with a baseball-playing chimpanzee[[note]]not even a real one, ''just an animatronic robot''[[/note]].
** Needling Creator/BenedictCumberbatch for his chronicly pronouncing "penguins" as "pengwings".
** Creator/ChristophWaltz hosting a children's educational show.
** Making Creator/GeorgeClooney apologize for ''Film/BatmanAndRobin'' ([[RunningGag for the umpteenth time]]).
** Creator/ColinFarrell's various bad haircuts in movies (prompting Farrell to joke a bit about some of the bad reviews he received for ''Film/{{Alexander}}'', including how he [[NotEvenBotheringWithTheAccent probably shouldn't have had an Irish accent]]).
** Subverted with Creator/KirstenDunst and a commercial she did as a child for a toy called Baby Uh-Oh, where she was happy to see it again. She explained that when the kids at school would make fun of her for it, she would gleefully respond by telling them how much money she made.
** If Graham won't do it, the other guests will (cf. [[Series/TheOsbournes Sharon Osbourne]] recalling Creator/ColinFarrell's sex tape, [[Series/FreshMeat Jack Whitehall]] making a joke about Creator/JohnnyDepp's then-recent customs incident while he was on the couch - which Johnny took in stride and even took the mick out of himself - or Creator/StephenFry and Robert Duvall ribbing Creator/RobertDowneyJr for his time in rehab).
** In one episode, Creator/TomHiddleston performed an impression of Creator/RobertDeNiro from ''Film/{{Heat}}'' in front of the latter (to De Niro's amusement). He humorously admitted in his next appearance on the program that it had instantly left him incredibly embarrassed.
** Creator/SarahPaulson smelling Music/{{Cher}}'s hair unbeknownst to her. Cher was on the episode after this, but it wasn't brought up. It was brought up on Sarah's next appearance, in which she then told Graham that she ended up meeting her not long after that and said that she had no idea that she was smelling her hair.
** Digging up an old Japanese TV ad that Creator/JenniferConnelly did as a teenager and the jingle she sang that happened to become a hit. She barely remembered doing it and could only cringe when forced to watch it.
* OneSteveLimit:
** Jennifer Saunders related a story from early in her career where another woman using the stage name Jennifer Saunders was discovered - as a porn actress.
** Creator/KirstenDunst and Creator/JessicaChastain hit it off when they discovered that both of them were playing characters named 'Sarah' in their respective upcoming movies (Dunst in ''Film/MidnightSpecial'' and Chastain in ''Film/TheHuntsmanWintersWar''). Raleigh Richie then joked that his character on ''Series/GameOfThrones'' will be renamed Sarah too.
** Sara (without an H) Pascoe told a story about a woman named Sarah (with an H) Pascoe who kept getting abuse on Twitter from her detractors thinking that she was Sara, and so that Sarah had to change her bio to "not the one who was shit on Live at The Apollo".
* PortmanteauCoupleName: [[invoked]] Discussed with regards to Olly Murs and Creator/MilaKunis - Graham saying they wouldn't work as a couple because their names wouldn't lend themselves to this. Mila still suggested 'Ollala'.
* RealityIsUnrealistic: Invoked when Creator/ElijahWood starts telling Graham that they've permanently built [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings the Hobbiton set]] in New Zealand; he starts out his explanation by saying that [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf1nYEOYx-U "it's a real place"]] when he's interrupted:
-->'''Graham:''' [''laughing''] NO IT'S NOT!\
'''Elijah:''' [''good-naturedly''] ''Graham...''\
'''Creator/RobinWilliams:''' LET HIM HAVE HIS DREAM! DON'T YOU SCREW UP HIS DREAM!
* {{Retool}}:
** The Spring 2020 series was this out of necessity, due to the [[UsefulNotes/CoronavirusDisease2019Pandemic COVID-19 pandemic]] - the show was filmed from Graham's home, with all interviews conducted separately via video conferencing. The show was reduced in length to 30 minutes, and brought forward from its usual late-night slot to an earlier one in primetime.
** This was resolved in the following Autumn series, however the set was redesigned to conform to rules and regulations regarding social distancing, including the big red couch being replaced by individual chairs placed around the set, roundtable style, spaced apart to give the guests enough room, and the massive audience was reduced to about 100 people, sectioned off into social bubbles (and later replaced with a virtual audience when tightening restrictions in response to the virus' second wave in the UK made it impossible to have a physical one). Additionally, some guests (i.e. basically every American guest) were brought in via remote contact.
** Due to COVID-19 limits on audience size participation, the big red chair segment had to be tweaked. Instead of audience members sitting in the chair to tell their stories, they'd tell them via videoconferencing while a celebrity guest sat in the chair to be flipped or allowed to stand up depending on Graham's verdict.
* RunningGag: Whenever there are people who've been in ''Franchise/StarWars'' on the couch, Graham ''will'' have toy lightsabers on standby for them to play with. And when the guests inevitably start playing with them and smashing them together, he'll start yelling about how expensive they are.
-->''Creator/EwanMcGregor and Creator/ChrisODowd start playing with high-end lighstabers''\
'''Graham:''' They'll break! They'll break! They're 150 quid ''each''!\
'''Ewan:''' How much do they cost?\
'''Graham:''' 150 quid ''each''.\
''Ewan and Chris smack their sabers harder together''
* ScrewPolitenessImASenior: Miriam Margolyes speaks frankly, even badmouthing power players in the entertainment industry, as she's reached a point where she couldn't care less what the majority thinks about her.
* SelfDeprecation: Creator/BradleyCooper described seeing a paparazzi photo of himself and Creator/RyanGosling. He noted Gosling looked like he'd just come from a photo shoot, "while I look like that neighbor that never leaves his house."
* SeparatedByACommonLanguage: Due to Graham often mixing American and UK performers together, this happens frequently. For example:
** As mentioned, ''literally any time John Bishop is on the show.'' To the point to where in one episode with him, Creator/MatthewFox and Creator/DianeKruger, this happened.
-->'''John Bishop:''' I was talkin' backstage to Matthew about coming to [[OopNorth Liverpool]], and it's one of those things that, y'know, if you have an accent, probably don't realize, because you lived - and it might be the same in Germany, but geographically it can't be in America - [[SmartPeopleSpeakTheQueensEnglish we have different accents very, very close to each other all over England, isn't it? All over Britain, it's very, very different accents, mainly because if people speak different than you, it gives you a reason to hate them.]]
-->'''Diane Kruger:''' But could you do an English accent?
-->'''John Bishop:''' ''[[OopNorth Could I do an English accent?]]''
-->'''Graham Norton:''' Imagine you were from England...
-->'''John Bishop:''' A German with an American accent, that just puts you in your place, doesn't it? I - let me see... (puts on a [[IAmVeryBritish posh]] tone) I could try to speak with an English accent, yes, and I think if I really put some effort into it, and really ''[[PunctuatedForEmphasis open]]'' my mouth, the problem is-
-->'''Diane Kruger:''': [[QuintessentialBritishGentleman He sounds like Prince Charles!]]
-->'''John Bishop:''' I know, well, my mouth is unfortunately filled with [[BritishTeeth massive teeth]] and a huge tongue. Which makes it difficult to ''[[PunctuatedForEmphasis vocalize]]'' in the way that other people with small teeth do.
** Creator/AnnaKendrick trying to explain to the British audience [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzd0oaXeV58 what power bars and trail mix are]].
** Creator/ReeseWitherspoon had a bit of a delayed reaction to a Red Chair story where a woman talked about hoovering up a budgie (known to Americans as a parakeet), only getting the full impact several seconds later when Creator/RobertPattinson explained that a budgie is a type of small bird. In the very next story, the entire studio is in stitches because it's being told by an Australian with both a strong accent and Australian slang.
** Creator/LilyTomlin admitted she couldn't understand most of Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges' stories due to his thick Scottish accent - and to a lesser extent, neither could Creator/ChrisHemsworth. Creator/RonHoward, who was also on the couch, seemed to understand him.
** Creator/JaneFonda was a bit confused as to why the audience was giggling over the title of ''Film/OurSoulsAtNight'' and burst out laughing when it was explained to her that "our souls" sounds extremely similar to "arseholes" ("assholes" to Americans).
** A variant of this often occurs when an American celebrity appears with UK celebrities from popular franchises that they are not familiar with. (For example, when Creator/KarenGillan appeared alongside Music/JenniferLopez, Lopez appeared confused by some of the discussion related to Gillan's series, ''Series/DoctorWho'', which she was unfamiliar with, forcing Graham to explain a few things.)
* SexSells:
** When Creator/CharlizeTheron couldn't describe the plot of ''Film/AMillionWaysToDieInTheWest'', she resorted to saying "I'm naked in it" to sell it.
** While promoting ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' they mentioned a scene of Superman and Lois in a bath, and Graham realized "we're ''really'' selling tickets now" - and Creator/BenAffleck then said [[GirlOnGirlIsHot Wonder Woman was in the bath as well]]. [[spoiler:She isn't really]].
* SignatureTransition: At the end of the ColdOpening skit, Norton throws up his hands in a manner similar to "jazz hands" and says "Let's start the show!" before the opening credits.
* SkewedPriorities: Parodied by Dominic West when he mentions defending himself in an online forum.
-->"You may think I'm talentless but I'm not ''fat''."
* SophisticatedAsHell: Dame Creator/HelenMirren, of all people, makes a penis joke to Creator/RickyGervais.
* {{Squee}}:
** Creator/EmiliaClarke, being of the generation that grew up with ''Series/{{Friends}}'', was so excited to be sitting next to Creator/MattLeBlanc on the couch and asked if he could say his CatchPhrase for her. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAzZuf8UgRo She was reduced to giggles]] when he asked: "How y'doin'?".
** Subsequently, Music/CamilaCabello was spazzing out without shame after being invited on the couch with Emilia and Creator/JasonMomoa, clearly a fan of the 1st season of ''Series/GameOfThrones''. She even brought a toy ShoulderSizedDragon.
** Christine and the Queens upon meeting the four stars of ''Film/Ghostbusters2016'', to the point where she starts blushing. The four do a pretty good job easing her nerves, saying they're fans of hers as well (Leslie Jones offers to be a backup dancer).
** On the same note, Olly Alexander of Years & Years was perhaps even ''more'' excited to meet the stars of ''Film/OceansEight'', particularly Music/{{Rihanna}}, who he was ''gushing'' over relentlessly, and vehemently (yet good-naturedly) defended the ribbing she was getting from the other stars of the film.
* StudioAudience: Always filmed in front of one, and Graham interacts with them at least once per show.
* ThatCameOutWrong:
** Creator/EmmaStone meant to say she was in China and saw a woman using a toilet on the floor. What she actually said: she saw a woman pooing on the floor.
** Graham said that Creator/CharlizeTheron was raised around animals, but he said she was "very comfortable around animals".
--->'''Graham:''' Weren't you kind of raised around goats?\
'''Charlize:''' Well start with ''that''.
** Creator/MattLeBlanc apologized to Creator/EmiliaClarke for only having seen the first season of ''Series/GameOfThrones'' to which she replied: "You've seen the good bits" only to break out laughing because she realized she just made a reference to her nude scenes.
* TimePassageBeard: Many people were surprised when Graham came back from hiatus with a full beard in Series 17 (which he's kept since). He explained that he didn't have much to do during the break and got bored.
* TwerpSweating: A couple of the male guests have talked about dreading their daughters dating and their (usually bad) attempts at trying to be intimidating in front of the boyfriends.
** Creator/SeanPenn sent his daughter up to her room so that he could get a few minutes alone with her first boyfriend. He attempted to be intimidating but [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0Ovgw8HLT8 didn't really do a good job of it]]. Penn noted that even if he really wanted to, he wouldn't have been able to intimidate the boyfriend because he was a champion MMA fighter.
** Creator/MarkWahlberg talked about [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbGGoEVEiL8 attempting to do this]] when he met his eldest daughter's boyfriend for the first time, even bringing along two burly friends to try and be even more intimidating. He was completely caught off guard when the boy brought his mother and was quickly won over by the fact that the kid was more polite and respectful towards him than his own child. He came to like the boyfriend so much that he was thinking up ways to ensure that the relationship would last and result in marriage.
* VSign: Creator/DanielRadcliffe did this to Graham good-naturedly after being ribbed by Graham about the hair extensions he was wearing for ''Film/VictorFrankenstein''.
* WhamLine:
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNYFMgpVgBw One Red Chair story]] featured a young woman who happened to be from the same town as guest Creator/PaulRudd. When asked by Graham if, by chance, the story involved the actor, the woman said no but that Rudd "did go to high school with my parents, though!" Cue Rudd doubling over in embarrassment, Dame Creator/HelenMirren double {{facepalm}}ing in sympathy, and Graham yanking the lever.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTTDR70Gu4k Another Red Chair story]] -- in an episode with Creator/ColinFarrell, Creator/RachelWeisz, Dawn French, and Creator/ChrisODowd as the guests -- featured a young man who talked about a rowdy babysitter practically destroying the house one night. When the angry mother returned home, she turned to the babysitter and said "you're in real trouble, Chris O'Dowd, when I tell your mother about this", prompting an EyeTake from the gentleman on the couch.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L9jzs-Cttc Yet another Red Chair story]] during an episode of Creator/JackWhitehall as guest host featured a woman in what she admitted was her second time in the seat -- the first time was eight years prior, and one of the guests on the sofa that show was particularly mocking towards her. As everyone on stage starts visibly trying to determine who it is, she lays down the critical thread:
--->'''Celine:''' Funnily enough, my daughter met this person at a nightclub recently...\
'''Jack Whitehall:''' ''[[OhCrap Oh my god]]'', [[OhCrap it's me.]]
** When coming onto the show to promote ''Film/{{Logan}}'', Creator/PatrickStewart shocked everyone by saying that he decided that the film would be his last as Professor X. The most shocked was Creator/HughJackman, sitting right next to him, who was rendered completely speechless as Graham also stared wordlessly.
--->'''Patrick:''' I realized that if this is the end, there is no more perfect and ''beautiful'' way to say "au revoir, goodbye, adios" than what has just happened. So...I think this is the end for me too!
