''Hyperdrive'' is a 2006 SciFi BritCom that aired on BBC Two starring Creator/NickFrost, Creator/KevinEldon, and Creator/MirandaHart. It ran for two series.

Set in the year 2151, the show follows the crew of HMS ''Camden Lock'', a British "Wendover-class" ship headed by the eager, yet [[IdiotHero hopelessly naive]] Commander Michael Henderson. His crew is made up of the psychopathic Eduardo York, the shy and timid Chloe Teal, the neurotic Dave Vine, the disobedient Karl Jeffers and RobotGirl Sandstrom, who is in charge of flying the ship. They are charged with the mission of exploring new worlds and protecting Britain's interests in the galaxy, but because of how hilariously incompetent all of the characters are, they usually end up making their problems bigger until they go away.

The show frequently parodies its source material, {{lampshading}} and making fun of many tropes and conventions that are a part of SpeculativeFiction.
----
!Contains examples of:
* AlienArtsAreAppreciated: Lallakki song "Kill the Humans", by Jeffers. Henderson was not amused.
* AliensSpeakingEnglish: {{Lampshaded}}, "...their language is amazingly similar to English, which is jolly helpful..." Every alien language in the show is either English or English being spoken in a weird voice.
* BloodKnight: Again, York. See the page quote.
* BoldlyComing: Spoofed in the compulsory InstructionalFilm the crew has to watch before a FirstContact mission. We don't see it (fortunately) but the crews' reactions to what they are watching indicate it would make even Captain Kirk think twice.
-->"Let's learn about another '''A'''lien '''S'''ex '''D'''isease. This crewmember had intercourse with a [[OctopoidAliens Glygonthian octopoid]]. Let's take a close look at his genitals. Pustules have developed, and on the pustules: warts. Soon, [[GroinAttack his entire groin explodes]], leaving [[BizarreAlienReproduction five baby octopoids]], each with his face. Remember, Alien Sex is Danger Sex."
* BolivianArmyEnding: ''Both'' seasons. First: [[spoiler:they are about to get gunned down by the Space Force after going rogue (turns out that Chloe's father stepped in).]] Second: [[spoiler:Henderson gives everyone (including those keeping the air circulating and power on) the day off, leaving them with a few minutes' worth of air...]]
* {{Brainwashed}} ([[BrainwashedAndCrazy and arguably crazy]]): [[spoiler: Henderson]] in the season two finale
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Possibly not Chloe.
* CrazyCulturalComparison: The alien races thrive on this.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: Sandstrom.
* CyborgHelmsman: Sandstrom.
* DeadlyGame: A reality TV program no less.
* DisintegratorRay: Lampooned with the Queppunian Doom Ray. It only works if the target stays perfectly still for three days, and has a recharge time of 1 week.
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: Averted for RuleOfFunny, but there is no realistic way York's [[NoOneCouldSurviveThat clone could have survived]] shunting Shuttle 3 through the ''Pride Of Glenrothes''' ramscoop to save the ''Camden Lock''.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: York and Teal nuking Queppu behind Henderson's back while he's busy giving his PatrickStewartSpeech.
* FutureImperfect: ''"When he first discovered France, did Charles Dickens feel as I do now?"''
* MildlyMilitary: The ''Camden Lock'' is ostensibly a warship, but discipline is nearly nonexistent. And while there's a definite chain of command, rank is rarely (if ever) mentioned.
* MookChivalry: {{Lampshaded}} and then {{subverted}}; the Shiny Red Robots of Vortis behave this way, until Henderson points it out.
* NoOSHACompliance: Lampshaded when the Commander and York find themselves on a narrow, rail-less walkway suspended hundreds of feet above a SwirlyEnergyThingy.
-->'''Cmdr Henderson''': ''Why would anything on this ship have to be so high?''
* PatrickStewartSpeech: Given by Henderson after their disastrous FirstContact with Queppu. His crew decide that DeusExNukina is a better response.
* PlanarShockwave: The Superweapon in ''Convoy'' issues one of these when it's destroyed.
* RubberForeheadAliens: Played straight, but to the point that it is hilarious (the aliens look really silly, especially the Queppunians, but this is never commented upon.)
* ShoutOut: The ship has a resemblance to the BT Tower. Its registration number, [=XH558=], is that of an Avro Vulcan bomber that was recently restored to flying condition.
* ShowWithinAShow: ''Captain Helix'', a narmy SpaceOpera with buxom space babes and faithful TinCanRobot that bears no relationship to the actual life of a space captain. [[spoiler: It's also responsible for the aforementioned brainwashing.]]
* SingleTear: An oily tear is shed by the robot in ''Captain Helix''.
* SociopathicHero: York. Well, sometimes he is heroic, or at least on the right side.
* SpaceshipGirl: Sandstrom, who used to be a ordinary human but volunteered to undergo cybernetic enhancement (including the removal of her memories and sentient thoughts) in order to pay off her college debts. Somehow they could put Sandstrom's mind back once her contracted tour of duty was over.
** The way that this came out in the show proves that they can put her back the way she was: In one episode she malfunctioned and reverted to her pre-conversion personality and memories, including being told that afterwards she would be restored to being a normal human.
* {{Technobabble}}: Also played straight until it looks utterly daft.
* UnusualUserInterface: Ships are piloted by cyborg "Enhanced Humans". This seems to involve dancing in an alcove full of coloured lights. The plot of the first episode comes about, in part, because two bored bridge crew members try to come up with a sequence of manoeuvres that will make the cyborg fall out of her alcove.
* VillainSong: Lallakki song ''Kill the Humans''.
* ZanyScheme: Season 1, Episode 3.
