!!''Bless This Mess'' contains examples of:
* BigStormEpisode: The season two finale, "Tornado Season: Part 2", takes place during a tornado alert, as everyone takes shelter.
* BlackAndNerdy: Brandon motivation to become an EOD technician was because the job allowed him to solve problems with robots. He admits that he wouldn't have passed boot camp if his instructor hadn't taken a liking to him after he helped the instructor with a simple computer issue.
* ChristmasEpisode: Season two's "Goose Glazing Time", where the Levine-Youngs' first Christmas in Bucksnort gets waylaid by drama from Rudy trying to impress Constance's mother and Jacob upset at seeing Bo and Kay have sex.
* CityMouse: Rio and Mike left comfortable lives in New York to run a farm. Not only are they ill-prepared to run a farm, the farm itself is run down with infertile soil. The other farmers, especially their neighbors the Bowmans, constantly make fun of them.
* CloudCuckoolander: Rudy, the old man who lives in the Levine-Young's barn.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Beau and Kay opening locked car door involves Kay holding open a gap while Bo inserts a long probe. To say nothing of the noises they make while doing so.
* TheGamblingAddict: [[spoiler:''Rudy'']] of all people racked up 400 grand in debt at underground casinos. [[spoiler:He's living in the barn cause he burned his own farm down for the insurance money to pay off the debt.]]
* TheGloriousWarOfSisterlyRivalry: Kay is jealous of the success Stacey has found on the trick-riding circuit and how people find Stacey easier to be around.
* HalloweenEpisode: “Scare Night”. Halloween is the anniversary of when Mike and Rio met, and Mike celebrates by scaring her all day. Rio hates it but goes along and tries to scare him back.
* HeelRealization: Beau Bowman is slowly coming to the realization that he hasn't been the best husband to Kay.
* InAnotherMansShoes: In "Letter of the Law", Rio criticizes Deb for opening and reading their mail, so Deb quits and Rio has to deliver the town's mail. Rio delivers the mail, but it turns out everyone was already used to Deb reading their mail beforehand and considered it part of the service. One woman in particular was a diabetic who couldn't control her sugar intake, so Deb always ate her chocolates and alcoholic drinks for her to keep her from going into shock.
* TheMainCharactersDoEverything: Constance, besides being the sheriff, also runs the general store.
* MaintainTheLie: When Constance's mom visits on Christmas and insists that Rudy be a good provider for her daughter, he asks Mike and Rio to pretend that it's his farm and they are just farmhands.
* MyBelovedSmother: Rio's mother Donna calls her constantly, begging her to come back to New York.

* PregnancyTestPlot: In the two part season 2 finale "Tornado Season", both Kay and Jacob's girlfriend seem to have MorningSickness, and take pregnancy tests, with Rio also taking one for support. Just as they are about to see the results, a tornado alert sounds and they all head for shelter, but in the rush the tests get mixed up. Only one comes out positive, and neither know whose it is. After the alert is lifted, they get tested again, and the one who is pregnant is revealed to be [[spoiler:Rio]].
* PrimalScene: Jacob catches his parents having sex on the couch and freaks out.
* QuirkyTown: Bucksnort is an isolated small town only two miles across, and its few residents are eccentric but very close.
* ReallyGetsAround: At least formerly. While at the gynecologist, Rio writes down that she's had 30 sexual partners but tells Kay that it's just a ballpark number and she has no idea how many she's really had.
* RoadTripEpisode: Because the nearest gynecologist is in Omaha, the women of Bucksnort make a daytrip out of it.
* SeriousBusiness: Bucksnort treats the first Cornhuskers football game of the season as a major event and being selected to host the viewing party is considered a huge honor.
* SpeedSex: Inverted. Rudy turns out to take his time when it comes to sex. As in hours upon hours. He and Constance start planning sessions months ahead of time and block off ''days''.
* ToiletPaperPrank: Every Halloween, the local teens TP Rudy’s barn. Which is fine with him because it means free toilet paper.
