* DamselInDistress: Kyouko plays this role in both Acts IV and V, first being kidnapped and held hostage by Hokuto and his minions, and then by the revived Jovian, Jacqueline, and Evil!Falla. After the latter incident, she's gotten sick of it, and is determined to help fight from now on; as of Act VII, she's learning how to use a gun in order to do so.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: The Chrono Displacement spell enables time travel to any specific time and location, but sacrifices the user's life force and dooms them to die by the next day. At the end of Act III, Tsukune and co. destroy the spell so it can never be used again.
* DarkIsNotEvil:
** Dark Kuyumaya, no pun intended. He's a MadeOfEvil demon with shadow-based powers, but is one of Tsukune's pals and a heroic, if tragic, character.
** Xarai, the necro demon that aids Ceal Erres. It's a big black demon with CombatTentacles, but is loyal to Ceal, mourns his death in Act VI chapter 38, and comforts a heartbroken Complica, even trying to stop her from using the Chrono Displacement spell to go back because it'll kill her.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Than some aspects of the original manga. For example, in the manga, Miyabi never actually raped Mizore, instead groping her and stealing her first kiss.
* DatePeepers: In Act VI chapter 41, Sun spies on Kokoa and Gin having sex. When Kokoa finds out next chapter... let's just say she doesn't take it well.
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: In Act VI, after settling into her role as Dark's guardian angel/mother figure, Arial openly disapproves of Mizore and is firmly convinced that she isn't good enough for Dark, believing that Felucia would be a better fit. However, as of the final chapter of Act IV, Arial agrees to give Mizore a chance as per Complica's final request.
* DeadAllAlong: Act VI chapter 39 reveals that Akasha is in fact an undead lost soul and not truly alive, being on a RedemptionQuest from the Almighty to truly earn her place in Heaven. Subverted slightly, as it's revealed as early as her appearance in chapter 19, but it's the first Moka has learned about it. Then, in chapter 51, it's revealed that Akasha is actually BackFromTheDead completely.
* DeadAlternateCounterpart: After being killed in Act III, Apoch and Astreal are replaced by duplicates of themselves from an AlternateTimeline in Act IV. Similarly, the original Falla in the mainstream timeline is killed and replaced by a duplicate of herself from the same timeline.
* DeaderThanDead: When Felucia, Complica, and Arial come BackFromTheDead in Acts V and VI, it's stated that they're essentially pure life force in a solid form, and they can still be killed; if that happens, they'll cease to exist altogether. This happens to the original Falla, Jovian, and Jacqueline after they're pulled out of Hell by Babylon.
* DeadlyDodging: In Act V chapter 36, after being unable to break Jovian's barrier himself, Render dodges out of the way of a LaserBlade attack from Apoch, said attack breaking Jovian's barrier and allowing Render to attack her.
* DeadpanSnarker[=/=]DangerDeadpan: Several examples, such as this exchange between Moka and Kurumu in Act IV chapter 21, after Moka gets a CloseCallHaircut from a DeathTrap:
-->Moka: This is crazy! I've only been awake for ten minutes and I nearly died!\
Kurumu: That's gotta be a new record for us.
** There's also this exchange in Act VI chapter 25, when Moka and Akasha are going to negotiate with the director of the [=HDA=]:
-->HDA Captain: You two are coming with us. We will escort you to the HDA command center located outside the city and you will speak to the director personally. You will have an armed escort at all times.\
Moka: I hope that doesn't include restroom breaks.
** Jovian also gets in on the act in Act VI chapter 43 after Jacqueline starts making noise when they're trying to be sneaky:
-->Jacqueline: Um, you can punish me later for it if you want, sister.\
Jovian: Somehow, I doubt you'll learn anything if I do.
** Dark is more deadpan than snarker, but he still counts:
-->Ceal: You're a tough guy, aren't you?\
Dark: You're an asshole, aren't you.
* DealWithTheDevil:
** In Act II, after Kurumu is killed by duplicates of Apoch and Astreal, Rason makes a deal with the Lord of Hell to bring her back.
** In Act VI, Felucia, having nothing left to do in Hell with Jovian and Jacqueline gone, makes a deal with the Lord of Hell to help thwart Babylon's planned invasion in exchange for being allowed into Heaven.
* DeathAmnesia:
** As part of the deal to resurrect her in Act II, Kurumu's memories of Rason and their bond are removed so as to spare her the horrors of Hell. However, a few chapters later, Kurumu manages to regain her memories.
** After being killed by the ghoul and resummoned by Ahakon in Act III, Dark initially has no memories of what happened beforehand until Mizore triggers the FlashbackEcho below.
** In Act VI, after being resummoned by Talon, Jovian and Jacqueline have no memory of their time working for Hokuto.
* DeathByAdaptation: In the original manga, Kuyou, Hokuto, and Kiria survived the final battle with Alucard and managed to rebuild Fairy Tale. Here, all three of them are dead by the end of Acts III and IV.
* DeathByDespair: After Rason, under the influence of the Otonashi sisters, breaks up with her in Act V, Kurumu, being a succubus that needs love to live, literally dies of a broken heart. She returns from the dead shortly after, after getting a GetAHoldOfYourselfMan from the Lord of Hell.
* DeathByOriginStory: Arial was killed by Dark, which prompted him to turn against his master.
* DecapitatedArmy: In Act III, this initially appears to be the case in regards to Fairy Tale after Tsukune kills Kiria, and the organization does disappear for quite some time and believed destroyed for several acts. Ultimately subverted come Act VI, when Gyokuro Shuzen, the true leader of Fairy Tale, enters the picture and it's revealed that Kiria was just the head of a specific faction, not the organization as a whole.
* DecompositeCharacter: In the manga, Miyabi Fujisaki was the true identity of Alucard, manifested in the form of a LiteralSplitPersonality. Here, Miyabi and Alucard are separate entities and have no connection whatsoever.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Dark was once one of Fairy Tale's top agents, but when he discovered their anti-human agenda and plans to attack Yokai Academy, he turned on them. As a result, several other agents, including Kenzo and Felucia, had Heel Realizations and followed his example.
* DefiantToTheEnd: In Act IV chapter 31, as he lays defeated, with Tsukune about to deliver the finishing blow, Hokuto nevertheless takes the time to gloat to Tsukune that he still wins, as Alucard has been successfully resurrected.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Arial spends most of Act VI being a cold Jerkass to Mizore. As of Act VII, she's started to warm up towards her, giving her a genuine thank you after Mizore tries to comfort her over Complica's disappearance.
* DemonicPossession: As revealed in Act III, when Kokoa completed the transfusion to Tsukune, the ghoul inside his body infected her with a portion of its essence for use as a contingency plan; when the essence takes over Kokoa in chapter 12, it uses her body to rape Tsukune, attack the group, and nearly rip off Tsukune's Holy Lock to unleash the ghoul before Kokoa manages to regain control of herself, after which Dark forcibly draws the spirit out of Kokoa's body and absorbs it.
* DemotedToExtra:
** In the original manga, Miyabi Fujisaki was originally a clone of Alucard, as well as the SecretIdentity of the Masked Man, the true head of Fairy Tale. Here, he's just a generic Fairy Tale agent, while Alucard is reduced to a mindless, destructive beast.
** Kuyou goes from an operative of Fairy Tale to a generic human-hating thug whose only purpose in the plot is to serve as Hokuto's UnwittingPawn and then get killed off by Tsukune.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: In a flashback in Act II to when Kiria first recruited Dark into Fairy Tale, Dark was doing nothing but rescuing girls from rapists and thugs and openly wondering if that was all he could do with his life. After discovering Fairy Tale's true nature, he has found one: being a good soul and helping people.
* DespotismJustifiesTheMeans:
** This is part of the reason why Falla was passed over as the next chronofly queen in favor of Luna; as pointed out by their mother, Falla was "too focused on the power to use it properly." Indeed, Falla openly admits that she only wanted the position for the power; despite destroying the entire chronofly kingdom and committing genocide of her entire race, sans herself and Luna, in a fit of rage, all Falla can think of is the crown, even though, thanks to her, there isn't even a kingdom to rule anymore!
** Babylon, the BigBad of Acts V and VI. It's outright stated that all he wants is to conquer TheMultiverse and rule over all worlds as their king. Considering the fact that his minions leave at least two human cities in ruin, and the fact that in Act VI chapter 38, before Complica's ResetButton attempt, he gives the vanguard of his army free reign to RapePillageAndBurn to their heart's content, it's very clear that he doesn't care what condition the worlds he conquers are in as long as he's the one ruling them.
* DestinationDefenestration:
** In Act I chapter 4, Mizore throws Moka out a window in a jealous rage.
** Ruby is later thrown out a window as well in Act I chapter 12.
** In Act IV, Jovian throws Kyouko out of a window as well; Astreal saves her from certain death.
* DeterminedDefeatist: In Act IV chapter 23, the way Rason sums up the group's predicament with having to save Tsukune's family from Jovian and Jacqueline has shades of this:
-->Rason: They have nearly unlimited power, and no regard for life around them. Their shields are supposedly unbreakable and their attacks can destroy virtually anything. And we have to split up our fighting power to attack two of them in different places in the human world where they not only have Tsukune's mother and cousin hostage, but will also be around other humans as well. Okay guys, I'm completely focused on our task, and have come to the conclusion that we are royally screwed.
* DidYouActuallyBelieve: In Act IV chapter 11, Falla gives the group this kind of speech after cutting Luna down and admitting that her attempts at redemption were merely an act all along:
-->Falla: You seem so surprised. Surely you didn't truly believe that I had any intention of remaining here at this filthy school, being denied my magic and crown, being forced to remain by her side as an equal? You filthy worms, why would I ever choose family over power?
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu[=/=]RageAgainstTheHeavens: In Act IV chapter 16, Rason is so pissed off at Heaven's AggressiveCategorism of all monsters, as well as their blatant refusal to act against Hokuto's plan to destroy the world because of their laws, that he actually calls out the Almighty himself over it, accusing him of being out of his mind. The Almighty is ultimately swayed by this, but does point out that he's not happy that Rason's "out of his mind" comment.
-->Rason: Almighty... are you out of your goddamned mind? How could you, Lord? How could you treat the innocent in such a way? It's not right at all! Luna helped save the world with us! Falla... this Falla, anyway, has been an angel as well in her life. She's protected a human boy from the monsters at the academy, she helped save Luna today as well! How could you? How can you just condemn them like this? Damn it, monsters are no different than humans! Hokuto is plotting to destroy everything! EVERYTHING! And here you try to kill the innocent who have only tried to stop this from happening. We're fighting to save life on Earth, both human and monster alike! And you treat us like we're the evil in the world?! I've had enough, Almighty. I've had enough with your damned rules and laws. [...] If this is how he wants to be with his world... with the innocent lives that exist down below... to treat those lives with prejudice and cruelty just because they aren't human... and to allow real evil, real monsters to roam freely, I will have no part of it!!
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: In Act IV, Tsukune and co. manage to defeat Alucard, whom the entire monster world long believed to be completely unkillable and unstoppable.
* DidntThinkThisThrough:
** Early on in Act III, Rason acquires a Holy Lock from Heaven and uses it to seal Tsukune's ghoul form away; however, it doesn't occur to him that the Holy Lock was never explicitly made with the intent to seal away a ghoul, let alone one that was infused with massive amounts of energy from Kokoa's overcharge, until after it's revealed that the chain is cracking under the strain of Tsukune's full power.
** In Act III chapter 16, after the group is stated to be heroes who fought off Fairy Tale, Kokoa and Felucia proceed to brag to the other students that they'll protect the school, whipping the crowd into a big frenzy and causing them to bum-rush the stage:
--->Kokoa: I didn't think they'd go this crazy.\
Kurumu: More like "didn't think!" Honestly, how can you be so arrogant?
** In Act III chapter 18, Gin runs to Dark and convinces him to hide him after stealing Apoch's underwear, apparently forgetting that Dark is a well-known WifeBasherBasher. As soon as Dark finds out, however, he throws him to Apoch and Astreal; the others even ask him if he's suicidal.
** In Act III, it's revealed that Kiria planned to harness Tsukune's ghoul as part of his EvilPlan. At the very end of the fic, Tsukune deliberately takes off the Holy Lock and unleashes the ghoul, which promptly pounces on Kiria and tears him into LudicrousGibs with his bare hands; obviously, Kiria never once considered the possibility that the ghoul would do just that.
** Throughout Act IV, Tsukune and co. expect Hokuto to pull off a full-scale attack on Yokai Academy to capture Moka, as per what happened in an AlternateTimeline. However, they fail to consider the fact that Luna and Falla, two Time Masters, were not present in said AlternateTimeline, and are completely unprepared when Hokuto, who did take Luna and Falla's presence into account, goes with a DivideAndConquer tactic instead by holding Tsukune's family hostage.
** In Act VI chapter 22, to deal the finishing blow to a monster Ceal had grounded, Fang Fang summons a phoenix, forgetting that he's doing so in the middle of his own backyard, the phoenix is powerful enough to incinerate his entire compound, and there are several people right in the middle of its blast radius. When Ceal points this out, Fang Fang's only response is a sheepish "Oh, right."
** In Act VI chapter 51, Falla uses her time powers to cheat at Hex's game, forgetting that Hex is a RealityWarper and thus would easily be able to tell. Hex even mockingly asks her if she actually thought he'd fall for it.
* DirtyCoward:
** In Act IV chapter 18, Hitomi constantly uses her petrified victims as shields against the group.
** In Act IV, the gang accuses Hokuto of being one on multiple occasions, and it's somewhat justified; among other things, Hokuto has held Felucia and Tsukune's family hostage to use their lives as leverage against the group, and typically lets Jovian and Jacqueline, as well as his other mooks, do the fighting for him while he makes a VillainExitStageLeft. The only time he actually fights on his own is when Tsukune corners him at Alucard's tomb during the climax of Act IV, during which he proves to be quite the badass when pushed.
* DirtyKid: Arial shows such tendencies in Acts V and VI. She dreams of marrying Dark in Act V chapter 23, wakes up having been making out with a pillow in her sleep, and remarks that it's a good thing Sun woke her up "before the honeymoon." In the penultimate chapter of Act VI, she nonchalantly mentions having watched pornography in Heaven.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: In Acts II and III, it's believed that Kiria was the leader of Fairy Tale, and that with his demise, Fairy Tale was finished. Come Act VI, it's revealed that Fairy Tale still exists, and that Kiria was merely a figurehead for their real leader, Gyokuro Shuzen.
* DishingOutDirt: From Act III onwards, Yukari learns how to use her magic to control the earth.
* DisneyDeath: In Act VI, Dark, Felucia, Akua, and Kahlua all believed Talon to be dead. He wasn't.
* DisneyVillainDeath:
** A non-villain example in Act III: during the attack on Kiria's stronghold, a Fairy Tale soldier drags Yukari down an elevator shaft to her death. She gets better.
** Later in Act III, Tsukune flings Akua off of the top of the building after she kills Moka. Again, she gets better.
** In Act IV, while fighting Jacqueline, Astreal blows out the floor of the sundeck the former was standing on, causing Jacqueline to fall to her doom.
* DisproportionateRetribution:
** In Act III chapter 23, when the girls confront Apoch and Astreal over their mistreatment of Yukari, they respond by blowing up Felucia and then lying to Ms. Nekonome by stating that the girls themselves were causing trouble.
** In Act VI chapter 8, Kokoa suggests they sacrifice Sun to Biomanipulation reconstruct Mizore's body for kissing Gin, telling her point-blank that for kissing Gin, she deserves to die. The others shoot that down, and opt to use the bodies of dead HDA officers instead. Later, in chapter 11, she openly suggests they trade Sun to Babylon in exchange for Luna, essentially selling her into eternal slavery, for the same reason.
* DivideAndConquer:
** In Act I, in order to weaken Tsukune and Moka's defenses, Rarosun and Surason shapeshift into Dark and Rason and molest Kurumu and Mizore, respectively, in order to dupe Dark and Rason into fighting and killing one another.
** In Act IV, Hokuto has Jovian and Jacqueline hold Tsukune's mother and cousin hostage in order to force the gang to split up to save them, while also forcing Moka to go with the brainwashed Felucia to Hokuto without a fight.
* DivineParentage: Act II reveals that Kurumu's DisappearedDad is actually the Lord of Hell himself, though Kurumu is unaware of this until Act V.
* DoNotGoGentle: Upon Alucard's revival in Act IV chapter 31, despite the others insisting that Alucard is unstoppable and the world is doomed, Tsukune refuses to accept it and just go down without a fight.
* DoomMagnet:
** As pointed out a few times, the constant battles the group has had to face only started when Dark and Rason enrolled in the academy.
** In Act III chapter 23, during a confrontation, Apoch and Astreal call Kokoa one to her face:
-->Astreal: You are the last one we want to speak to, Ms. Kokoa. It was because of you that we died in the first place.\
Apoch: Yes, Mr. Tsukune and Mr. Ahakon say we can trust you, so we shall try to do so. It doesn't change the fact that trouble always follows you. Do us a favor and keep your death cloud away from our boyfriend.
* DoorStopper: All told, the combined length of all seven acts clocks in at 2,807,512 words.
* DontCallMeSir: While he has Kokoa, Akua, and Kahlua under his servitude in Acts III and IV, Tsukune repeatedly corrects them when they address him as "master."
* DontMakeMeDestroyYou: After beating Ceal in a fight in Act VI chapter 45, Dark says a variation of this trope name:
-->Dark: This fight is over. Don't make me make Complica and Falla cry by killing you just to prove my point.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: In Act VI chapter 42, after Kokoa snaps and punches Sun in the face, it's revealed two chapters later that Kokoa hit Sun so hard that she fractured her skull and ruptured her eyeballs, with Yukari stating that if Kokoa had hit Sun any harder, she would have completely destroyed Sun's entire head. Kokoa is instantly horrified at this, having never wanted that to happen.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Played with in Act II chapter 30, in which Inner Moka takes advantage of a loophole in the Eia Dreahl to give Tsukune a nosebleed by punching him in the face. Dark, Rason, Kurumu, and Mizore all think it was a bit extreme, while Yukari is just despondent that she didn't think of doing it.
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnFemale: Averted: during Act IV, Tsukune and co. are absolutely livid to discover that Jovian and Jacqueline had been sexually abusing Felucia and Kyouko.
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: Averted: in Act III chapter 12, when the group catches a possessed Kokoa forcing herself on Tsukune, they, especially Moka, are disgusted and furious.
* TheDragon: During his days in Fairy Tale, Dark was noted to be Kiria's second-in-command.
* TheDragonslayer: Ceal Erres' FamilyBusiness.
* DragonHoard: Fafnir is noted to guard a massive treasure trove. Many dragon hunters have gone after him with the intent to slay him and claim it for themselves, though none have succeeded. For his part, Ceal couldn't care less about the treasure, since he's already loaded
* DramaPreservingHandicap: Throughout Act III, Tsukune is forced to hold back much of his power to avoid cracking the Holy Lock and unleashing the ghoul.
* DramaticDislocation:
** In Act IV chapter 28, the effort of using her sword to deflect Jovian's rage-fueled WaveMotionGun attack causes Apoch to dislocate her shoulder. She pops it back into place by repeatedly slamming it against the floor.
** In Act VI chapter 45, Dark breaks Ceal's ankle during their fight. Ceal just snaps the bones back into place.
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint: In Act IV chapter 1, when Kokoa and Moka accidentally let it slip that Kokoa turned Tsukune into a ghoul, Issa doesn't particularly care that they managed to save Tsukune and reverse the transformation; he only cares that they didn't kill the ghoul on sight.
* TheDreaded:
** Throughout Acts II and III, the entire group, Tsukune included, is terrified of Tsukune's inner ghoul and dread the possibility of it surfacing.
** As revealed in Act IV chapter 2, both Akua and Kahlua are terrified of Jovian and Jacqueline, having seen their massive destructive capabilities, particularly the fact that they single-handedly destroyed entire Fairy Tale facilities during temper tantrums. Upon finding all of this out, Tsukune and co. are not too eager to fight them either.
** As stated in Act V chapter 29, dragons as a whole have this reputation in the monster world, to the extent that Render and Leon question Ceal's sanity when he reveals he's a dragon slayer.
** In Act VI chapter 53, it's revealed that all the Fairy Tale scientists are terrified of Discord, their own creation, and are making sure not to rush her creation, fearing they'd be unable to stop it or control it even with an ExplosiveLeash implanted in her body. As it turns out, that's exactly the kind of reaction Gyokuro was hoping for, planning for Discord to be a new destroyer to replace Alucard, one under Fairy Tale's control.
* DrivenToSuicide[=/=]InterruptedSuicide:
** In Act II chapter 25, Mizore, believing that she is DefiledForever thanks to Miyabi, jumps off of a balcony in despair, but Kurumu saves her and comforts her, pointing out that Dark only wants to be with her and no one else.
** In Act III chapter 1, after being tricked into giving Tsukune's ghoul side enough power to take over Tsukune's body, Kokoa is so horrified and guilt-ridden that she tries to jump off a cliff and into the sea, but Gin stops her and talks some sense into her.
* DualWielding:
** Render's weapon is a pair of magically-summoned swords.
** From Act III onwards, Mizore trades in her ice WolverineClaws for a pair of ice katanas.
* DudeNotFunny: In Act III chapter 6, this is the gang's reaction to Akua and Kahlua's "joke" that to truly regain her pride, Kokoa will have to be Tsukune's slave in every sense of the word, including sexually.
* DudeWheresMyRespect:
** Much of the conflict between Mizore and Arial in Act VI revolves around this. Mizore has been nice to Arial in an attempt to get on her good side and even saved Arial's life, and Arial still treats her with contempt.
** On more than one occasion, Falla is understandably irked that the others repeatedly fail to mention that she was instrumental in Tsukune's defeat of Alucard.
* DullSurprise:
** In Act II chapter 26, Tsurara takes the revelation that Dark is an ex-member of Fairy Tale in stride, remarking that, since he was able to take out their weapons and vehicles so easily, he must have had some training with them.
** In Act III chapter 12, the group come across a possessed Kokoa having her way with Tsukune; while the others are completely taken aback, Dark's response is a totally deadpan "DidntSeeThatComing."
* DwindlingParty: Tsukune and co. go through this in Act III chapters 47-50 during their raid on Fairy Tale's HQ. In this order: Dark is infected with Blackheart and kills Mizore, and is only stopped when Gin blows them both up using Fairy Tale's explosives; Ruby is fatally shot by a Fairy Tale agent; Yukari is dragged to her death down an elevator shaft by another agent; Ahakon gets blown up by a grenade while fighting a group of soldiers; Rason is shot down by a Fairy Tale gunship; Kurumu is gunned down by two other gunships after taking out the ship that killed Rason; Kokoa's overcharge sets off a gas explosion while fighting Kahlua, killing them both; and Moka dies when Akua punches through her chest and destroys her heart, with Akua being thrown off the building to her death by Tsukune immediately afterwards. By the time Tsukune reaches Kiria, he's all alone, and gets curb-stomped by Kiria only to be saved by Luna, whom Tsukune convinces to let him use the Chrono Displacement spell to send him back in time by one day and save everyone.
* EasyComeEasyGo: In Act IV chapter 27, this is Hokuto's word-for-word response when Kurumu and Rason catch the critically-injured Moka after he has his mooks throw her off his airship.
* EasilyForgiven[=/=]TurnTheOtherCheek: The various members of Tsukune's circle of friends can do such things as nearly kill each other and pick fights for the pettiest of reasons, and by the end of the day, Tsukune will have forgiven them and gotten them to forgive each other.
* EekAMouse: In Act I chapter 25, Apoch freaks out at the sight of a bug, much to Astreal's annoyance.
* ElementalPowers: Ahakon is able to cast fire, water, and lightning magic.
* EmbarrassingNickname: When he summons him in Act III, Ahakon dubs Dark "Amazing Joe." As soon as Dark regains his memories, he immediately threatens to kill Ahakon if he calls him that again.
* EnergyBow: In Act VI, Astreal learns the Artimus Arrow spell, which is essentially this.
* EnfantTerrible: Downplayed; Arial is a cute little snow girl... with a HairTriggerTemper that borders on AxCrazy and a penchant for extreme violence when provoked. At least once, Moka and the others have pondered how Arial was accepted into Heaven in the first place, and Mizore has outright called her a "fucking nightmare." That being said, it's noted she is in fact a good soul, and she's not without her PetTheDog moments.
* EngagementChallenge: In Act VI, Arial, who has been acknowledged as Dark's mother in a sense, outright disapproves of Mizore's relationship with Dark and tells her that she will have to prove herself worthy of Dark's hand in marriage. Just a few chapters later, however, she decides that Felucia would make a better wife to Dark than Mizore, and is actively shipping Dark and Felucia together. As of the end of Act VI, however, she agrees to give Mizore a fair chance as per Complica's LastRequest.
* EngineeredHeroics:
** Played straight in Act IV. Early on, Kyouko is beaten up and nearly raped by human thugs in her neighborhood and rescued by Falla, winning some degree of good favor with Tsukune and the others. As revealed in chapter 11, Falla deliberately lured said thugs toward Kyouko so she could rescue her and make herself look good, thus setting the foundation for Luna to eventually be duped into restoring her chrono magic.
** Discussed in Acts V and VI; Jenner Rythmore, the openly anti-monster head of the HDA founded in the wake of TheUnmasquedWorld, is firmly convinced that Tsukune and his friends deliberately set Alucard loose on the world just so they could kill him and make themselves look like heroes, which couldn't be any farther from the truth.
* EntitledBastard:
** Despite being a Jerkass who only wanted the job for the power, Falla is/was firmly convinced that the position of chronofly queen was rightfully hers. Furthermore, when she returns in Act IV, she genuinely expects Luna to use the spell to restore her chrono magic despite the fact that Falla killed their family and slaughtered their entire species in a fit of rage.
** From chapter 27 of Act VI onwards, when Arial accepts her role as Dark's guardian angel/mother figure and nothing more after spending most of her screentime being an AxCrazy Yandere over him, she becomes this to Mizore, demanding that Mizore actually shows her respect before she even considers giving her her blessing to marry Dark; considering the fact that Arial had previously savagely clawed Mizore into LudicrousGibs in a jealous rageMizore was subsequently healed by Ceal, stole her engagement ring right off of her hand while issuing death threats in the middle of the night, and is continuing to be nothing but a Jerkass to her despite all of Mizore's attempts to bond with her, and even after Mizore saved her ungrateful life, it's been pointed out at least once that Arial has done nothing to deserve respect from Mizore.
* EntitledToHaveYou:
** Good!Falla's attitude toward Tsukune for most of Act IV. While she knows that this Tsukune is not the same one from her timeline, she doesn't care and is adamant that he's rightfully hers, going so far as to rig the entire girls' dormitory with Death Traps to kill Moka and MakeItLookLikeAnAccident so she could have him back. She finally snaps out of it when Lilith's Mirror IHatePastMe restores her memories, deciding she's not worthy to have Tsukune due to the atrocities she committed in the past.
** Arial's attitude towards Dark for most of Acts V and VI, to the extent that she's perfectly willing to endure all manner of threats, physical harm, and even the wrath of the Almighty Himself because she's convinced that Dark is rightfully hers.
** Sun has much the same attitude toward Gin throughout Act VI. Despite having previously spurned Gin's LoveConfession, and this being the first time she's seen him in years, Sun now relentlessly pursues Gin, uncaring that he's since moved on to Kokoa, and goes so far as to spy on them having sex. It isn't until her actions drive Kokoa to nearly kill her in a fit of rage, and Gin finally puts his foot down that they'll only ever be JustFriends due to his relationship with Kokoa, that Sun finally stops and drops this mindset.
* EurekaMoment: In Act III chapter 42, with the revelation that Fairy Tale is still active and coming to attack Yokai Academy, Tsukune remarks to Moka that Akua and Kahlua said that Fairy Tale had been destroyed. At that very moment, Moka recalls the mystery vampire agent they fought in Ashton City during Act II, and from the evidence she failed to put together before (namely the agent's fighting style, voice over the radio, personal knowledge of Moka, and the fact that Akua just happened to show up at the academy right after the gang got back from Ashton City), realizes that Akua was said vampire agent; thus, Akua and Kahlua have been working for Fairy Tale all along.
* ExactWords:
** In Act II chapter 29, when Moka and Kokoa explain the Eia Dreahl, they explain that, as per their agreement, the first girl to give Tsukune a nosebleed wins the right to be his mate, and the loser will have to forfeit their right to him forever under penalty of death. However, as Dark points out to them, Kokoa said the first girl to give him a nosebleed wins, which means that any girl who gives Tsukune a nosebleed can claim him for her own; cue OhCrap when Moka and Kokoa realize this, as well as the fact that Yukari has already picked up on it and seizing the opportunity.
** In Act II chapter 30, Inner Moka uses the exact wording of the Eia Dreahl to her advantage, realizing that the pact only said to give Tsukune a nosebleed; it didn't say how.
** In Act III chapter 9, according to the elder in Heaven, the Holy Lock can withstand almost anything on Earth. Key word, almost: even it can't take the strain of Tsukune's full monster energy without cracking.
** In Act III chapter 44, the gang accuses the headmaster of lying when he said that Fairy Tale was destroyed. However, Mikogami points out that he only said that the dark lords had informed him that Fairy Tale had disappeared and that they wanted the school reopened; he never explicitly said that the organization was destroyed.
** In Act VI chapter 2, after knocking Ran senseless with a multitude of washtubs, Yukari agrees to respect Ran's feelings and not to hit her with any more of them. However, as she points out, she never said she wouldn't use her earth powers to bury Ran alive if she inflicts MarshmallowHell on Ahakon again.
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: In Act VI chapter 19, upon discovering that Moka is the daughter of Issa Shuzen, Render remarks that he expected the daughter of a dark lord to look more intimidating.
* Expendable CloneArmy: In Act II, Fairy Tale uses the spell that originally created Apoch and Astreal to create a small army of duplicates, which they use for, among other things, living weapons, combat tests, and even sex toys.
* ExplainExplainOhCrap:
** In Act III chapter 46, after dismissing the possibility that Akua and Kahlua are Fairy Tale agents, Kou proceeds to explain to the headmaster that the Chrono Displacement spell that Fairy Tale stole from the Shuzen estate was stored in a secret archive that only Issa and his daughters knew about. As soon as those words are out of his mouth, Kou realizes that the only way Fairy Tale could possibly have known about the archive, let alone the spell, is if Akua and Kahlua were working for them.
** Throughout Act IV, after receiving a glimpse into an AlternateTimeline, Tsukune and the others expect Hokuto and his CoDragons, Jovian and Jacqueline, to pull off a full-scale attack on Yokai Academy to capture Moka as part of his plan to resurrect Alucard, and prepare accordingly. When that day comes, however, they're caught completely unprepared when a BrainwashedAndCrazy Felucia shows up alone, several hours instead of schedule. While trying to work out why it's happening differently, they suddenly remember that unlike their current timeline, Luna was not present at the academy during the AlternateTimeline, something they never considered before then; thus, Hokuto isn't launching an all-out attack on the school.
** In Act VI chapter 13, Kyouko insists that Talon can't be evil because he's targeting those who were part of Fairy Tale... and then remembers that since Dark, Akua, and Kahlua are ex-Fairy Tale agents themselves, they're on Talon's hit list too.
* ExplosiveLeash: In Act VI chapter 53, it's revealed that Discord has a bomb implanted in her body as a fail-safe in the event she goes out of control.
* ExtremeMeleeRevenge:
** In Act II; upon discovering that Miyabi had raped Mizore, Dark goes ballistic; when he gets the upper hand, Dark slowly crushes all of the bones in Miyabi's arms and legs to powder before tearing them off one by one, punches him in the face with such force that his jawbone snaps clean off, and finally tears his spinal cord clean out of his body with his bare hands. Even though Tsukune and co. all agree that Miyabi deserved every minute of it, they're still horrified at Dark's brutality.
** In Act III chapter 12, after catching Kokoa raping Tsukune, Moka flies into a rage and promptly pummels Kokoa into the ground while demanding to know why she did it. Midway through, she discovers that Kokoa has been infected by the ghoul's essence, which promptly seizes control of Kokoa again and beats Moka down right back.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Chronoflies are able to eat literally anything to keep their strength up; Luna and Falla have eaten, among other things, pencils, rocks, silverware, blankets, and their own gym clothes. In Act III chapter 31, Luna takes this trope to extreme levels by eating the entire back half of Kano's head.
* ExtremelyShortTimespan: WordOfGod confirms in his journal that across the first six acts, only 38 days have passed. Yes, that's right: such things as the gang putting a permanent end to the likes of Kuyou and Fairy Tale, Hokuto resurrecting Alucard and resulting in an Unmasqued World, and the impending invasion of Babylon all take place in the timespan of a little over one month.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes:
** Despite being a DisappearedDad, the Lord of Hell does care about Kurumu. Upon her temporary death in Act II, he allows her memories of and bond with Rason to return even though part of the DealWithTheDevil was that they would be permanently removed, and then goes PapaWolf on the ogres who began to rape and torture her soul before she was revived.
** Jovian and Jacqueline; the author goes out of his way to establish that Jovian and Jacqueline are nothing more than Psychopathic Manchildren who absolutely thrive on causing as much pain, destruction, and death as possible, going so far as to torture and rape those Hokuto holds hostage ForTheEvulz. That being said, they have UndyingLoyalty to Hokuto, and love each other, even if said love is somewhat Twincest twisted; in fact, in Act IV chapter 28, the minute Apoch and Astreal successfully kill Jacqueline, Jovian completely drops her FauxAffablyEvil act and starts spamming Wave Motion Guns at the two in a blind rage.
* EveryoneHasStandards[=/=]EvenEvilHasStandards:
** The Lord of Hell himself has some. He does not approve of Babylon's plan of conquest, and arranges for Felucia to be resurrected and earn her place in Heaven in exchange for helping to stop said plan.
** According to Dark, even the most evil denizens of Hell find harming children abhorrent. It was being forced to kill one by his former master that motivated him to turn on said master.
** In Act III chapter 10, Astreal tries to shoot Kokoa dead on the spot three times in a row because Kokoa was the one who turned Tsukune into a ghoul and thus indirectly responsible for her and Apoch's deaths, and is called out by Apoch by it; even though Apoch also holds a grudge against Kokoa for the ghoul problem, she insists that trying to kill her in plain sight is not okay.
** In Act IV chapter 23, while talking to Tsukune over the phone and revealing that she and Jovian have Mrs. Aono and Kyouko, respectively, as hostages, Jacqueline briefly toys with the idea of "playing with" Mrs. Aono, but ultimately decides against it, saying that Mrs. Aono is "too old for her tastes."
** In Act VI chapter 42, while Kurumu admits that the myth that succubi can drain the life force out of men during sex is true, nowadays a succubus would have to "be a bitch" to do so; her mother never killed any of her various flings, and she never planned to either. As Kurumu puts it, "we may be demons who prey on men, but we're classier than doing something as dark as that."
* EvilAllAlong:
** In Act I, Rarosun and Surason Kiyo initially appear good, even befriending Apoch and Astreal. Then it turns out they're working for the vampire lord Dahlzin, who wants to drink Tsukune and Moka's blood to become stronger, and pull off a DivideAndConquer tactic on their friends to leave the two open.
** Act III sets up Hokuto as benevolent and a friend to the group. As it turns out, he infiltrated Yokai Academy in order to steal an ArtifactOfDoom as part of his plan to resurrect Alucard, and even orchestrated Kuyou's attack on the school to distract everyone while he did so.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood:
** In Act III chapter 41, when Kuyou accuses Ms. Nekonome of poisoning the students with "garbage" about coexisting with humans, Ms. Nekonome remarks that she's teaching them how to live peacefully and not start wars, a lesson that Kuyou is obviously incapable of learning.
** During Act IV, while mentioning Felucia's disappearance and Luna's death at her hands, Evil!Falla is completely unable to understand why Mizore and Kurumu, respectively, are upset over them because they were sort-of rivals for Mizore and Kurumu's respective boyfriends. After bifurcating Luna in Act IV chapter 13, Evil!Falla flat-out tells Kurumu to her face that Kurumu should thank her for doing so since Luna won't be hounding Rason anymore.
** As a StrawNihilist, Hokuto is completely incapable of believing that humans and monsters could ever peacefully co-exist, and even deliberately breaks TheMasquerade to prove to Moka that the humans would never accept monsters. He's firmly convinced that the humans in Tsukune's neighborhood will kill Tsukune and his friends without even trying to listen to reason, and is absolutely surprised when the group actually manages to win said humans' trust, with Moka even taking the time to rub it in his face. Of course, it doesn't stop Hokuto from going on with his plan.
--->Moka: Off to prove another failed hypothesis, Hokuto?\
Hokuto: Don't think this changes anything, Moka. Your friend may have persuaded his dear old mother and some frightened people to hold their fire, but by the looks and sounds of it down below the human race isn't exactly welcoming the monster world with open arms. Tsukune hasn't proven anything other than he can use fear and confusion to slip out of danger.
** As noted in Act VI chapter 53, Gyokuro is literally incapable of imagining a world where humans and monsters peacefully coexist. To her, humans are a plague, and the very idea of human/monster coexistence is, in her words, a "foolish notion" and a "despicable dream."
* EvilCounterpart: Jovian and Jacqueline Kikion, two duplicates of Apoch and Astreal Ezrana enhanced by Alucard's blood. Like the Ezranas, they're Artificial Humans created by magic, both being able to shoot energy blasts and create Force Fields, though theirs are far more powerful. Unlike Apoch and Astreal, however, they're batshit insane and work with Hokuto in his plan to resurrect Alucard and destroy the world. Also unlike Apoch and Astreal, who have a strictly familial relationship, there's quite a bit of Twincest involved. The new Jovian and Jacqueline that are summoned by Talon in Act VI are considerably more sympathetic and friendly.
* EvilFeelsGood: The original Jovian and Jacqueline who served Hokuto openly admit that they commit such acts as rape, ColdBloodedTorture, and wanton mass murder and destruction purely "because it's fun."
* EvilGloating: In Act I chapter 30, after trapping Kurumu and Mizore behind a barrier while Rason and Dark are fighting, the Kiyo brothers proceed to gloat to the two that they were the ones who molested them while in Rason and Dark's forms, and the plan was made even easier because the girls were gullible enough to believe it.
* EvilIsDeathlyCold: The Blackheart-enhanced EvilKnockoff of Mizore created by Fairy Tale in Act VI fits this to a T. In her introductory chapter, chapter 49, it's revealed that she can produce ice as cold as absolute zero.
* EvilIsNotAToy: Fairy Tale has a very bad habit of trying to take control of powerful beings and artifacts for their own purposes. While they may have no problem controlling them at first, more often than not, it blows up in their faces in the end.
** In Act II, they manage to get their hands on Apoch and Astreal's original summoning spell and use it to create their own personal CloneArmy of slaves. By chapter 51, the clones snap under the constant abuse and turn on them, helping Tsukune and co. put an end to Fairy Tale's Ashton City branch.
** In Act III, Kiria hopes to harness Tsukune's inner ghoul, planning to infect it with Blackheart and sent back in time to the Battle of Kahdaln to rewrite history in favor of the monsters. In chapter 52, when Tsukune deliberately unleashes it, the ghoul promptly pounces on Kiria and both dismembers and disembowels him with his bare hands while Kiria tries in vain to reason with it.
** In Act VI, Gyokuro makes a clone of Luna, enhanced with a quadruple overdose of improved Blackheart, named Discord, intending for it to be a new Alucard under her control. As revealed in Act VII chapter 3, when Discord is completed, it will rage out of control and destroy the entire universe.
* EvilIsPetty:
** Falla killed her parents, destroyed her homeland, and wiped out the entire chronofly race (with the exception of herself and Luna) simply because she was jealous that Luna was chosen to be the next queen over her. Furthermore, it's revealed in Act VI that the reason Luna could never get a date is because Falla lied to all of her potential suitors that their father would execute any of them who tried to approach Luna without hesitation, for no reason other than to be a Jerkass.
** As revealed in a flashback in Act IV chapter 29, Felucia, before her HeelFaceTurn, once stole a car, nearly killing two human teens in the process, simply because it matched her eyes.
* EvilKnockoff[=/=]PsychoRangers: As revealed in the end of Act VI, Gyokuro has had her scientists create Blackheart-enhanced clones of Moka, Kokoa, Ruby, Yukari, Mizore, and Kurumu solely to have them destroy the originals.
* EvilSorcerer: Ghaldin Rayazo, Apoch and Astreal's former master.
* EvilWeapon: While not evil per se, Yukari falls prey to one briefly in Act III; Ruby, Apoch, and Astreal make her a new wand after her original one broke, but Apoch and Astreal misread the instructions while doing so and give the wand a Zeta-line seal instead of a Beta-line seal. As Ruby explains, Zeta-line seals are specifically designed to harness a witch's natural power and amplify it, and can prove difficult to wield if the user is not trained to handle it. In Act III chapter 13, the seal initially gives Yukari increased BloodKnight tendencies and makes her more irritable to the point where she drops three consecutive washtubs on Kurumu's head without provocation, but by chapters 14 and 15, she ends up going insane with power and going on a psychopathic rampage against her friends; the wand actually starts to physically damage Yukari's body before Tsukune manages to bypass her defenses and destroy it.
* EvilWearsBlack: Babylon's Elite Mooks, such as Rathieal, all wear black, as do Jovian and Jacqueline.
* EyeScream: Falla lost her left eye in a fight with Luna in the past. In Act V, when the original Falla returns, Ceal tears her remaining eye out and uses it to replace the new Falla's lost left eye.
* TheFaceless: All we ever really see of Xarai the necro demon are his CombatTentacles.
* FailedASpotCheck:
** In Act II, after fighting off a vampire agent in Ashton City, Moka fails to realize several obvious things (the agent's fighting style, personal knowledge of Moka, and voice over the radio) that prove the agent's identity as her sister Akua, even dismissing the odd coincidence that Akua and Kahlua just happened to show up at Yokai Academy right after the gang returned there from Ashton City. It isn't until Act III chapter 42, where the group discovers from Hokuto that Akua and Kahlua lied and Fairy Tale is not only still active, but coming to Yokai Academy for a full-scale attack, that Moka puts it together; she promptly lampshades how blind she was to not have put it together beforehand.
** In Act III chapter 46, when Kou returns to Yokai Academy and reveals to the headmaster that Fairy Tale stole the Chrono Displacement spell from Issa Shuzen's archives, he somehow doesn't take into account the fact that the archive in question was a family secret that only Issa and his daughters knew about, and thus the only way Fairy Tale could have known about the archive, let alone the spell, is if Akua and Kahlua had been in league with them, until he actually says it out loud.
** In Act IV chapter 17, Falla mistakes a bottle of Yukari's love-struck potion for perfume, completely failing to notice the warning note Ruby left next to it.
** Throughout Act IV, Tsukune and co. expect Hokuto to pull off a full-scale attack on Yokai Academy to capture Moka, as per what happened in an AlternateTimeline. However, they fail to consider the fact that Luna, a Time Master who would pose quite an obstacle to his plans, was not present in said AlternateTimeline, and are completely unprepared when Hokuto, who did take Luna's presence into account, goes with a DivideAndConquer tactic instead by having Jovian and Jacqueline hold Tsukune's mother and cousin hostage.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: In Act III, Hokuto insists that Kiria's plan to rewrite history with Chrono Displacement was doomed from the start, because he got the idea from manga. He's proven right during the final chapters: if Tsukune had failed to stop him, Luna, insane with grief, would have killed Kiria herself and then let the Chrono Displacement spell destroy the world, while in the mainstream timeline in chapter 52, Tsukune deliberately unleashes the ghoul and kills Kiria.
* FakeUltimateHero: Invoked; throughout Act III, many of the other students believe Tsukune and his friends to be this. They're proven wrong when the entire school witnesses the gang fight off Kuyou, and then a battalion of Fairy Tale soldiers.
* FallenAngel:
** Rason himself is one. His backstory reveals that he fell from grace as part of an agreement with his superiors to prove that not all monsters are evil.
** In Act VI, Rason's friend and fellow angel, Gabriel, also loses his grace as part of losing a bet with Hex.
* FalselyReformedVillain: The original Falla during Act IV. In an effort to get Luna to finish the spell and restore her magic, she fakes wanting to reform through several acts of kindness... and in chapter 11, as soon as Luna truly believes that Falla can change and restores her magic, Falla promptly bisects her in cold blood and then proceeds to rub it in the gang's faces that it was all an act.
* FantasticSlur: Act II onwards uses the term "slushy" as a racial slur against Mizore's species.
* TheFarmerAndTheViper:
** In Act IV, even after finding out that Falla was a Jerkass who murdered her own father and sister and caused the extinction of her entire species sans herself and Luna, Kyouko tries to reach out to her and reform her. It seems to work, and Luna eventually restores Falla's lost chrono magic to give her a chance. As it turns out, Falla was faking a HeelFaceTurn to trick Luna into doing exactly that, and as soon as she does so, Falla bifurcates Luna and proceeds to rub in Tsukune and the others' faces how stupid they were to believe that her attempts to reform were ever anything but an act.
** Kyouko gets hit with this especially hard, as she tried to show the original Falla kindness and reach out to her, only for Evil!Falla to use her as an UnwittingPawn in her scheme; when she's brought back for a brief period in Act V, Evil!Falla takes great delight in rubbing in Kyouko's face how she just used her before trying to kill her. This ends up biting her in the ass; after everything else that's happened, Kyouko hits her RageBreakingPoint and attacks Evil!Falla in a rage, later finishing her off by beating her to death with a baseball bat.
* FatalFlaw:
** Arial's flaw seems to be her stubbornness and HairTriggerTemper. She spends most of her screen time in Acts V and VI obsessed with Dark, and repeatedly brushes off any and all attempts to reason with her until she causes Dark a HeroicBSOD that nearly leads to his death.
** From the viewpoints of his friends, Tsukune's flaw is his tendency to constantly forgive those who tried to kill him and give them a second chance. When he decides to do so with Akua and Kahlua, Dark flat-out tells him that it will be the death of him someday, with Gin also saying that he's "too damn forgiving for his own good."
* FemaleAngelMaleDemon: Inverted; Rason is a male angel, Kurumu is a succubus.
* Fiction 500: Ceal Erres comes from a very wealthy family. While the exact extent of his wealth is unclear, he's so rich that he has no interest in the treasure hoard Fafnir guards, and in Act VI, he forces Fang Fang Huang to pay him 9000 gold bars to repay his father's debt... and promptly feeds them all to his pet necro demon Xarai, openly admitting that he just wanted to take the gold away from the Huangs and he's filthy rich enough as it is.
* FightingBackIsWrong: A big part of Act III is Tsukune and his friends being bullied and harassed by virtually everyone at Yokai Academy, and Headmaster Mikogami punishing them for fighting back against the other students while ignoring those who deliberately go out of their way to torment them; it reaches the point that he threatens to separate them if they get in another fight. Deconstructed when the other students find out and use it to their advantage to actively harass and taunt Tsukune's crew without fear of retribution, gloating they can't do anything or they'll dig themselves in deeper with the headmaster; this climaxes when Nagare Kano exploits it to blackmail the girls into letting him take dirty pictures of them and nearly rape them. After Kano is dealt with and he learns of all this, Mikogami thankfully wises up and agrees that if the other students try to persecute them like that again, Tsukune and co. have every right to defend themselves.
* FinalSolution: In Acts III and IV, Hokuto is firmly convinced that all life forms, human and monster alike, are equally evil and will endlessly kill each other simply to continue living for the sake of living; thus, he seeks to achieve peace by resurrecting the ancient destroyer Alucard and allowing him to kill every last living soul on the planet. According to Hokuto, as well as Akasha during Act VI, before he mutated into the monstrosity he became, Alucard shared the same views as Hokuto.
* FlashbackEcho:
** In Act III chapter 4, when a Fairy Tale spider demon steals a re-summoned Dark's linked bracelet from Ahakon and forces him to attack Mizore, Mizore tells him, "I don't hate you. It's not your fault," which was the very same thing Arial Kuyumaya said to him before he was forced to kill her. Dark instantly regains his memories as a result and kills the spider.
** Later, in Act III chapter 17, when Luna says to Rason, "I didn't think angels in Heaven cared about us monsters," Rason has one and realizes that Luna was the same monster girl he saved from a human rapist.
* FlippingTheBird: In Act III chapter 52, Tsukune flips Kiria off after giving him a combination BigShutUp[=/=]PrecisionFStrike.
* Foil: Jenner Rythmore serves as this to Hothorne Tamaka, his successor as the director of the [=HDA=]. While both are the heads of the [=HDA=] at different points and have humanity's best interests at heart, Jenner is an anti-monster GeneralRipper who openly calls monsters "things" and took the first possible opportunity to declare open war on monsterkind, whereas Hothorne is a ReasonableAuthorityFigure who actually does believe that monsters can be good and forms an alliance with Moka's group for peace between their two races.
* ForTheEvulz:
** Ghaldin displays this perfectly when he appears and seizes back control over Apoch and Astreal in Act I chapter 12. He already had what he came to Yokai Academy for, and could have just left the school with the Ezranas and been done with it. There was really no reason for him to have the Ezranas attack Tsukune and co., much less seize control of Dark and Rason through the witch sisters' own flubbed mind control spell and directly order them to kill their own girlfriends, other than to make it especially clear to everyone InUniverse and out that he's a soulless, colossal bastard.
** In Act III, this is essentially the only reason Kuyou burns Astreal alive.
** The original Jovian and Jacqueline who served Hokuto revel in committing mass murder, tormenting people, and blowing things up just for kicks. Among other things, they hold Tsukune's cousin Kyouko hostage and rape her, and then taunt Tsukune about it over the phone, and blow up Tsukune's house just to torment him; they would have killed his mom in doing so if Gin hadn't gotten her out in time. While they're often acting under Hokuto's orders, there's no doubt that they enjoy doing committing acts of evil for the sake of it, and their brief revival via Babylon in Act V proves once and for all that with or without Hokuto, they're nothing but unchained animals.
** The new Jovian and Jacqueline who serve Talon in Act VI, while considerably less sadistic and cruel than Hokuto's, aren't above indulging in this either; in Act VI chapter 43, when they're looking for Akua and Kahlua in the Shuzen castle, Jacqueline suggests that they just blow up the castle, leading to this exchange:
-->Jovian: Why is it that whenever we can't find somebody your first instinct is to blow up everything around you?\
Jacqueline: Because it's fun.
** In Act VI chapter 25, it's mentioned that during their time enslaved to Babylon, Rathieal regularly abused the Otonashi sisters and tortured them with their Slave Collars just for laughs.
* ForcedToWatch:
** During Act I chapter 30, after Rarosun and Surason reveal how they duped Rason and Dark into fighting each other, they decide to make Kurumu and Mizore watch as their respective boyfriends kill each other, even morphing into the two to egg the boys on. It backfires when Rason and Dark see through their disguises.
** During the climax of Act IV, Hokuto decides to force Moka to watch as Jovian and Jacqueline break TheMasquerade while battling Tsukune and the others, and then watch the humans the gang had sworn to protect kill the gang in cold blood. This plan backfires when they actually manage to win the humans' trust.
** In Act V chapter 34, the dark Falla makes Render and Leon watch as she rips the good Falla's wings, arm, and leg off.
* ForcefulKiss:
** In Act III chapter 31, Kano really starts becoming unlikable when it's revealed he forced Kokoa to make out with him.
** In Act VI chapter 27, Arial's infatuation with Dark reaches its critical point when she kisses him. Having already been suffering a HeroicBSOD upon discovering that Arial was in love with him, Dark absolutely freaks out at this.
* ForgotAboutHisPowers:
** In Act I chapter 12, after being thrown out a window, Ruby is initially prepared to die and freaking out... only to remember she can fly and save herself.
** In Act III chapter 13, Apoch and Astreal try to help Ruby repair the damaged parts of the school, only to cause an explosion that causes even more damage, after which Ruby angrily reminds them that they don't know how to fix things with magic; the two sheepishly admit that they forgot that detail.
* FreudianSlip: In Act VI chapter 21, while trying to save Felucia and Luna from the rylo, Gabriel becomes desperate to rescue Luna and frantically screams, "You can't take her away from me!", much to Felucia's surprise.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Arial has a HairTriggerTemper and constantly acts like a SpoiledBrat, with every attempt to berate her and get her to mellow out falling flat because she CantTakeCriticism and will physically attack anyone who tries. Throughout Act VI, only Dark, Complica, and Sun can actually stand to be around her; everyone else in the group barely tolerates her at best and has no qualms against calling her crazy, stupid, or otherwise badmouthing her to her face.
* FriendToAllChildren: Sun easily befriends and bonds with Arial and Complica in Acts V and VI. In Act VI chapter 22, it's the sight of Sun saving the two from Babylon's monsters that convinces Ran that Sun wasn't the one who destroyed their hometown.
* FriendlessBackground: In Act VI chapter 16, it's revealed that Arial had a difficult time making friends due to her temper.
* FromBadToWorse:
** In Act III chapter 10, Tsukune discovers that his Holy Lock cracked under the pressure of his aura. In the next several chapters, he ends up cracking five more links in the process of stopping threats, and all before the new school year even starts.
** In Act III chapters 40-42, Kuyou attacks the school and kills Astreal, and Tsukune breaks all but one link of the Holy Lock while fighting him, whereas Apoch is killed by Jovian under Hokuto's orders after Hokuto and Jovian reveal their true colors, and Felucia is kidnapped by Hokuto and extorted into working for him. And if that wasn't bad enough, almost as soon as Kuyou is dealt with and Hokuto flees, Kiria sends a massive Fairy Tale armada to the school to capture Tsukune, Moka, and Kokoa.
-->Rason: How can so much shit happen to us in one morning?!
* GameBreakingInjury: A brief example: in Act III chapter 12, Kokoa's yandere half, brought forth by her ghoul infection, rapes Tsukune after rendering him helpless with a "love tap" to the spine. Said "love tap" injures Tsukune to the point where he needs to be healed by Ruby and Yukari to be able to move.
* GeneralRipper: Jenner Rythmore, the head of the Human Defense Agency founded in response to TheUnmasquedWorld in Acts V and VI. He's a blatantly anti-monster Jerkass who makes no effort to hide his open distrust of monsters, going so far as to accuse them of setting up Alucard's attack during the climax of Act IV just so they could kill him and make themselves look like heroes, and in Act V chapter 20, openly states that he's just waiting for an excuse to declare open war on the monster world, outright deriding the idea of peace between humans and monsters as ridiculous. In Act VI chapter 6, the gang ends up killing Jenner in self-defense, and he is subsequently replaced by Hothorne Tamaka, who is far more of a ReasonableAuthorityFigure than Jenner ever was.
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: Tsukune's ghoul form has no interest in taking over the world; it simply wants to hijack Tsukune's body and then kill and/or rape anyone and everyone unfortunate enough to get in its way. This is proven at the end of Act III chapter 52; when Tsukune unleashes it, Kiria tries to persuade it to help him in his EvilPlan, and promptly gets both dismembered and disemboweled for his efforts.
* GentlemanThief: Razico, though he prefers to be called a treasure hunter. He quickly manages to win Ruby over, and when hired to steal Lilith's Mirror in Act IV, he remarks after the mirror wreaks havoc that he didn't know it was dangerous and never wanted anyone to get hurt. He actually admits that part of the reason he raided the archives at Yokai Academy was an excuse to see Ruby again. In Act V chapter 4, when the headmaster gives him a mission to track down Pandora's Box before it falls into the wrong hands in exchange for any treasure he desires, Razico requests that Ruby be freed from her IOweYouMyLife life debt to the headmaster.
* GenreSavvy:
** In Act III chapter 43, in wake of the discovery that Hokuto was EvilAllAlong, the headmaster admits he had had his doubts about Hokuto from the start, though he apparently didn't anticipate just how much of a traitorous bastard Hokuto really was.
** In Act VI chapter 10, Fang Fang explains that when he registered as a monster with the [=HDA=], he told them that he lived in China, not Japan; thus, he has an entire villa that the gang can hide out in, and the [=HDA=] will never think to look for them there.
* GetOut: In Act III chapter 20, the shop teacher literally screams this at Dark and the others after Dark uses a belt sander on a bully's face.
* GiantFlyer: The rylos, giant birdlike storm demons in Babylon's army which are described as being at least as big as Alucard.
* GiveMeAReason: In Act V chapter 20, Jenner openly states that he's just waiting for the first excuse he can use to declare open war on the monster world.
* TheGlovesComeOff: Whenever Dark removes his headphones and [=MP3=] player, it's a sign that he's about to get serious.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom[=/=]PowerGlows:
** Both Rason's eyes and wings glow when he uses his powers.
** Whenever Astreal is about to fire a HandBlast, her arm glows red.
* God: Here, God is referred to almost exclusively as "the Almighty" and has yet to make a physical appearance.
* AGodIAmNot: As Hex explains in Act VI, for all of their power, he, Pandora, and Babylon are still mortal and can bleed and die just like anyone else.
* GodsHandsAreTied: The angels and God the Almighty take this to LawfulStupid levels. In Act IV, they're unable to intervene against Hokuto's plan to revive Alucard and destroy the world because of their ThouShaltNotKillMuggles rule, which still applies to Hokuto because he was born human. Later, at the end of Act VI, they can't do anything to save Complica and bring her soul back through the heavenly barrier because their laws dictate that no deceased soul can pass it, from either side. As Rason and Gabriel's superior explains, the Almighty's laws are absolute; not even the Almighty himself can break them.
* GodIsFlawed: The Almighty is depicted throughout the first three acts, as well as the first third or so of the fourth, as being strictly pro-human/anti-monster, with most angels being shown in a similar fashion. However, by Act IV chapter 16, the Almighty is moved by Rason's willingness to die for his belief that monsters can be good just like humans, and by the end of Act IV, monsters are being accepted into Heaven as well.
* TheGodsMustBeLazy: The Almighty and the angels have yet to actually directly intervene in the various battles throughout the series, neglecting to aid Tsukune and co. against Fairy Tale and Alucard. Rason even takes the time to call them out on it in Act IV chapter 16.
* GodzillaThreshold: In Act II, Tsukune becomes so desperate to save Kokoa from a lethal SuperPowerMeltdown that he deliberately lets the ghoul take over his body to help.
* GoingCommando: Kurumu does this in chapter 2 of Act VII to tease Rason in the hallways of the HDA HQ before departing for their peacekeeping mission as part of the Monster Coalition. She trips and fall to the floor just as Gabriel exits his room and gets an eyeful of her genitals. In her subsequent embarrassment, Kurumu pins the blame on Gabriel for seeing her bottomless self in the first place.
* GoneHorriblyRight:
** In Act I chapter 12, Apoch and Astreal brainwash Rason and Dark for aid, only for their master to exploit this and use all four of them as his mindless slaves.
** In Act I chapter 23, Yukari, hoping to help Tsukune and Moka's relationship, creates a special LovePotion that literally makes someone dosed with it crazy with love; as Yukari puts it, "you may not want to be in public then." However, Yukari never anticipated that Moka would share the potion with Kurumu and Mizore during school hours, rather than use it for herself when she and Tsukune are alone.
** Talon Ryashen's backstory. He was kidnapped off the street by Fairy Tale and turned into a SuperSoldier. The minute the experiments were complete, he escaped the lab and now seeks to wipe out anyone and everyone who ever worked for Fairy Tale as revenge for the loss of his humanity.
* GonnaNeedMoreX: On two different occasions, after shooting a powerful monster to no ill effect, Dark deadpans that he "needs a bigger gun."
* GoodIsNotNice:
** Inner Moka, more often than not. Best showcased in Act III chapters 23 and 24. When Apoch and Astreal Take a Level in Jerkass, mistreating Yukari, lying to Ms. Nekonome to get the other girls kicked out of class purely for asking them why they're mistreating Yukari, and then outright trying to murder Yukari to keep her away from Ahakon, when Tsukune unintentionally unleashes her, Inner Moka immediately kicks them through a wall, and in the very next chapter, openly tells Ruby and Yukari that they shouldn't bother healing them after the way they've been acting and force them to deal with the consequences of their actions.
** Ceal Erres. While he is a fundamentally good person, he's also an Jerkass who can barely finish a sentence without talking down to everyone around him, and who often gripes when asked to heal the others; at one point, the others have to literally beg him for help when Dark is badly injured.
** Dark Kuyumaya kills and injures with zero hesitation, and in Act IV chapter 13, he bluntly tells the new Apoch that she's a single-minded idiot who isn't worthy of his mark because she can't tell the difference between him and his DeadAlternateCounterpart.
** While a good soul and having been one of the first monsters to be accepted into Heaven, Arial Kuyumaya is also a stubborn, immature Jerkass with a HairTriggerTemper that borders on AxCrazy, and who can barely even stand in the same room as Mizore without physically and/or verbally attacking her.
* GoodWingsEvilWings[=/=]WingedHumanoid:
** Angels such as Rason and Gabriel have generic white feathered wings. After losing his grace in Act VI to Hex's game, Gabriel briefly loses his wings, but they are restored by Ceal with black feathers.
** Succubi such as Kurumu have bat wings.
** In Act IV, Astreal learns to manifest energized wings via a flight spell.
** Chronoflies all have colorful butterfly wings.
** Arial, now a snow angel, has wings composed of icy feathers.
** Several of Babylon's EliteMooks, such as Rathieal, have black feathered wings as well.
* GoshDangItToHeck: Under normal circumstances, Luna is too polite and refined to swear, to the extent that, in Act IV, Tsukune and co. are genuinely shocked to hear her drop F-bombs.
* GottaKillEmAll: As revealed in Act VI chapter 53, this is what Gyokuro's EvilPlan involving the Blackheart-enhanced clones of Luna and Tsukune's former harem amounts to. First, she will use the clones of Moka, Mizore, Ruby, Kokoa, Kurumu, and Yukari to destroy the originals, as well as everyone and everything they hold dear. Then, when they and the "foolish" notion of human/monster coexistence has been crushed once and for all, she will unleash Luna's clone upon the world to subjugate humanity.
* GreatOffscreenWar: Act III mentions the Battle of Kahdaln, the LastStand during a war between monsters and humans for control of the world; the monsters lost and were forced back into the monster world, thus beginning TheMasquerade. In the present day, most monsters dislike talking about it to the extent that, when Ahakon brings it up in class, Ms. Nekonome promptly dismisses it as a myth.
* GreenEyedEpiphany: Yukari spends several chapters of Act III jealous of Ahakon's relationship with Apoch and Astreal, but repeatedly denies it, insisting that she doesn't care. Eventually, at the end of chapter 20, she realizes she does care, and has fallen in love with Ahakon.
* GreenEyedMonster: In Act I chapter 4, Mizore gets so jealous of Tsukune's attention to Moka that she attacks Moka in a rage.
* GroinAttack: A RareFemaleExample; in Act III chapter 40, and again in Act IV chapter 6, Jovian and Jacqueline use their magic to burn Felucia's crotch while torturing her.
* GullibleLemmings: In Act I, the Kiyo brothers morph into Dark and Rason and molest Kurumu and Mizore, respectively, as part of a DivideAndConquer tactic. Kurumu and Mizore never once suspect foul play and are firmly convinced the real Dark and Rason actually did that... until the Kiyo brothers restrain them and reveal the trick while gloating about how easy it was to dupe them; the girls are appropriately devastated by how quick they were to assume the worst.
* TheGuardsMustBeCrazy: In Act VI chapter 1, while locked up by the HDA and accused of a monster attack on the city, Dark and Mizore suddenly attack Kurumu and Rason, accusing them of being lazy and not doing anything to stop the HDA from arresting them before actually coming to blows. The HDA officers watching them open the cells to break up the fight, which is exactly what they were expecting; the gang promptly kill the guards, steal their weapons, and escape.
* GrudgingThankYou: In Act VII chapter 1. While it initially seems that Arial is going to blow off Mizore's attempt to comfort her over Complica's death and rebirth and reassurance that they will see her again, before she leaves the room, she OOCIsSeriousBusiness surprises both Mizore and Felucia by stopping just long enough to thank Mizore. While it may not seem like much, it's the first time Arial has said anything remotely nice to Mizore since they've met; Felucia even jokingly asks if Hell just froze over.
* GunsAreWorthless: Defied; when Tsukune expresses confusion over why his monster friends are scared of guns, they explain that, monster or not, headshots are fatal to anything. Mizore even explicitly says at one point that the entire reason the students at Yokai Academy are being taught to co-exist with humans is because human technology and weapons are actually more powerful and numerous than monster might and magic.
* HairTriggerTemper: Arial is noted by several characters to have a foul temper. She doesn't help matters by lashing out whenever someone points it out to her.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe:
** In Act IV, after getting her powers back, the first thing Falla does is slice Luna in half. Several chapters later, an AlternateTimeline duplicate of Luna saves the original and takes her place.
** In Act IV chapter 19, after kicking Hitomi's ass, Inner Moka steps back and allows Apoch to finish her off by chopping her in two.
** In Act IV chapter 28, Apoch finishes Jovian off by slicing her in two at the waist.
** In Act V chapter 36, Leon, after mimicking Jacqueline's powers, kills Jacqueline by completely vaporizing her from the waist up with a point-blank WaveMotionGun.
* HandBlast[=/=]PowerPalms: Astreal's primary method of attack is a red energy beam shot from her palm.
* HarmfulToMinors:
** Yukari faints upon witnessing Dark's ExtremeMeleeRevenge on Miyabi in Act II.
** Likewise, after Dark uses a belt sander on a bully's face in shop class in Act III, Ahakon is completely traumatized.
-->Ahakon: So much blood... so much blood...
* HarmlessFreezing: Generally, anyone frozen solid by the snow women won't have any long-term negative effects except for being a little cold.
* HatedByAll:
** During the majority of Act III, Tsukune and co, suffer this from most of the other students, who believe them to be fakers claiming to fight Fairy Tale for attention. From the climax of Act III onwards, after the other students see the group successfully fend off Kuyou and a Fairy Tale invasion force firsthand, they are the heroes of the academy from there on out.
** In Act VI chapter 45, all the members of the Fairy Tale faction that Gyokuro leads express open disdain for the late Kiria, to the extent that they view his brutal death at the hands of Ghoul!Tsukune as a MercyKill.
* HateSink: Quite a few characters:
** The original Jovian and Jacqueline who work for Hokuto; they were Psychopathic Manchildren who's list of atrocities includes raping and torturing Felucia to the point of SanitySlippage, molesting Kyouko twice, and leveling most of Tsukune's hometown to the ground and killing numerous innocents ForTheEvulz. Needless to say, upon their deaths, all of Tsukune's gang rejoices.
** The original Falla. She sent her own little sister to her death out of spite and slaughtered her entire species and destroyed her hometown in a fit of rage, all simply because she was denied what she believed was her right to rule the chronofly kingdom, and is above all else a smug Jerkass who believes ItsAllAboutMe and has a LackOfEmpathy that's borderline sociopathic. No one has any sympathy to spare for her both times she dies, with her GoodCounterpart declaring her to be nothing but a blight on their world.
** Arial Kuyumaya is a rare heroic example; though she's shown in-universe to be a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, her more Jerkass qualities, such as her bitchiness towards Mizore and her dangerous temper, tend to outshine her redeeming aspects and can cost her the sympathy of many.
** Jenner Rythmore, the former head of the [=HDA=]. Every time he appears, he takes the time to rant about his distrust of monsters in the most Jerkass way possible. In a nutshell, every single moment of his screen time seems devoted to making the readers cheer when Ceal throws his racist ass to Babylon's dragon in early Act VI.
* HatesBeingTouched: Rathieal. In Act VI chapter 21, when his fellow soldier Sivia does so one too many times, he snaps and kills her with his bare hands.
* HatesEveryoneEqually: In Acts III and IV, this is Hokuto's motive for resurrecting Alucard. As he states to Moka, he hates all living things, humans and monsters alike, and views them as nothing but evil, meaningless trash who could never co-exist and only want to live for the sake of living, endlessly killing one another to do so; thus, he believes that the only way to achieve true peace in the world is by reviving Alucard and allowing him to destroy every living thing on the planet.
* HawaiianShirtedTourist: Leon Takeda often wears a blue Hawaiian shirt.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters:
** In Act I, Astreal dips into this territory when she decides to brainwash Rason and Dark to force them to fight Ghaldin for her and Apoch. When Apoch points out that they'd be stooping to Ghaldin's level by doing so, Astreal insists that it's not the same because Ghaldin used the two of them to kill whenever and whoever he wanted, while they won't use the boys for such actions.
** In Act VI, Talon is dipping into this territory quite well. The members of Fairy Tale who were actually responsible for his transformation are already dead, but he doesn't care; as far as he's concerned, everyone who was ever a member of Fairy Tale, including Unwitting Pawns and those who left willingly, is equally guilty, even Dark, who was one of the heroes who took down Alucard. In Act VI chapter 35, Akua and Kahlua even flat-out tell him to his face that he's no better than those who made him what he is.
* HeadphonesEqualIsolation: Dark and Arial constantly listen to music on an [=MP3=] player to the extent that they largely "hear" through lip-reading. In Arial's case, it's revealed in Act VI chapter 17 that she was never very friendly with anyone, and out of frustration that she could never find a boy to like or a potential husband, and turned to her music all day every day to tune the "harsh world" around her out.
* HeelRealization: At the end of Act III, Kahlua and Akua have one when they discover that Kiria's plan to rewrite history with Chrono Displacement would have only benefited him, and that he would have infected them with Blackheart and sent them back in time to kill their father as part of said plan.
-->Tsukune: All for a greater purpose, right?
* HelpMistakenForAttack: In Act VI chapter 25, Jacqueline blows up Tsukune's house right in front of him just because she can, apparently killing Tsukune's sleeping mother inside as well. However, Gin managed to get her out in time; sadly, when the neighbors see the big werewolf carrying Kasumi, they automatically assume that he's trying to kidnap her, one even bringing out a shotgun.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: In Act VI, Tsukune's group has become this thanks to VanHelsingHateCrimes, though they are making progress.
* HeroStoleMyBike: In Act VI chapter 26, Dark steals Razico's bike in order to catch up to Hokuto's airship.
* HeroesPreferSwords: As revealed in a flashback in Act IV chapter 30, Dark managed to take out both an army of anti-Fairy Tale monsters and a necromancer on separate occasions using only a sword. Of course, this doesn't mean that he DoesntLikeGuns.
-->Felucia: Dang, he's got some fancy tastes in weaponry.
* HeroicNeutral: The snow people in Mizore's village are described as such in Act II, preferring to stay out of conflicts.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Gabriel does this quite a bit in Act VI chapter 46, insisting that he can't possibly be Luna's Destined One because he's done nothing but fail her again and again.
* HeyYou: With the exception of Falla and Complica, Ceal has yet to actually address the other members of the group by name, instead calling them by their species ("succubus," "angel," shadow demon," etc.), or in Leon and Render's case, their professions ("hunters.").
* HiddenHeartOfGold: In Act III, Dark states that he will kill Tsukune if he sees any sign that the Holy Lock's seal on the ghoul is weakening. When the chain starts to crack, Dark claims that he will eventually kill Tsukune, but it's revealed that he doesn't actually want to do so, with Dark coming up with excuses, such as Kokoa's debt to Tsukune, to keep him alive. Nonetheless, the act is successful enough that everyone believes it until Mizore and Felucia point it out to them.
-->Rason: He could have told us that was his intention.\
Tsukune: He did it in his own way. He's Dark after all.
* HidingInPlainSight: The gang spends a good portion of Act VI hiding in Fang Fang's estate; while Fang Fang did register with the [=HDA=], he was GenreSavvy enough not to tell them that he had a villa in Japan.
* HolierThanThou: Ceal accuses Jenner Rythmore, the anti-monster head of the HDA, of being such in Act VI chapter 6; Jenner constantly rants about how monsters are all the same and do nothing but lie and kill. Ceal retorts that humans are hardly any different, that Jenner speaks as if humans are all universally good and pure, and declares that for all his talk about wanting to protect humanity, all Jener really is is a human who thinks he's above monsters just because he's human.
* HopeSpot:
** In Act III, Hokuto arranges for Jovian to repair Tsukune's Holy Lock to give him a chance against Kuyou. What Hokuto and Jovian don't tell the group is that the repair work is only temporary, and once the spell wears off, all of the links Tsukune had broken before will break again, along with any other links that Tsukune strains in the meantime; indeed, right in the middle of the fight against Kuyou, the spell wears off and all but one link of the Holy Lock cracks right then and there.
** A brief moment in Act VI chapter 42 between Mizore and Arial; in an attempt to bond with Arial and win her approval, Mizore asks her how Dark was when she first met him. Arial softens toward her for a few brief moments to tell her the story... and then goes right back to her "Mizore isn't worthy of Dark" mentality as soon as she's done, much to Mizore's irritation.
* HopelessSuitor:
** Apoch and Astreal are this to Dark and Rason, respectively.
** Kokoa was one to Dark and then Tsukune before getting over it.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter:
** In Act III, Akua and Kahlua helped Kiria in his plan to use the Chrono Displacement spell to rewrite history, going so far as to steal said spell from their father Issa's archive for Kiria to begin with, because they genuinely believed that the extent of Kiria's plan was to send Tsukune's ghoul back to the Battle of Kahdaln so as to turn the tide of the battle and change history in favor of the monsters, thus ensuring that monsters would rule the world. In chapter 52, upon their defeat, the two are completely shocked, shocked! to discover that, in addition to that, Kiria also planned to send out Blackheart-infected monsters to the dark lords themselves, as well as any other being powerful enough to oppose him, so he would be the top monster in the revised timeline, and he would have had Akua and Kahlua, and possibly Moka and Kokoa as well, infected with Blackheart as well and sent back to kill their father Issa and destroy the Shuzen empire from within as part of it, all of which is anything but what they wanted. Kahlua and Akua spend the entirety of Act IV as The Atoners.
** In Act IV, Kyouko and Mrs. Aono automatically decide to trust Jovian and Jacqueline simply because the two claimed to be Tsukune's friends. They realize just what a mistake that was after Jovian holds Kyouko hostage and rapes her, and after Jacqueline blows up the Aono house and levels most of the neighborhood to the ground for laughs.
** In Act VII chapter 3, the new Complica decides to trust Routier right off the bat. While Routier did save her from a group of human pedophiles, she did so by ripping them to shreds with a chainsaw and laughing about it.
* AHouseDivided: Throughout the first few chapters of Act III, the ghoul inside Tsukune causes a schism within Tsukune's posse, with some (Moka, Kurumu, and Rason, for example) trusting Tsukune to keep the ghoul contained with the Holy Lock and others (Dark, Mizore, and Felucia, for example) firmly convinced that the ghoul will return eventually. They all get over it when they discover just how sturdy the Holy Lock is.
* HourOfPower: The initial version of Blackheart, as shown in Act III. It greatly empowers monsters, but it also sends them into a berserk rage and kills them after one hour. In Act VI, Fairy Tale has improved it, making it a more generic SuperSerum.
* HowManyAllOfThem: In Act VII chapter 3, when Moka's EvilKnockoff breaks free and kills a mook, Xia-Long calmly dials up the other members of Fairy Tale and requests that they send in their men to restrain said EvilKnockoff if they can. When asked how many, Xia-Long responds, "All of them."
* HowMuchMoreCanHeTake[=/=]RasputinianDeath:
** In Act II chapter 22, when Dark has Miyabi at his mercy, he proceeds to, in this order, crush all of the bones in his arms and legs to powder, tear off said limbs one by one, punch Miyabi's jaw clean off, and then finally tear out his spine. Up until the very moment Dark tears out his spine, Miyabi is still alive and conscious.
** In Act III chapter 52, Kiria actually manages to stay alive and fully conscious after Ghoul!Tsukune rips off his arms and tears out most of his internal organs, as well as a chunk of his spine. He finally dies after Ghoul!Tsukune crushes his skull.
* HulkingOut: In his battle form, Render triples in muscle mass.
* HumansAreTheRealMonsters:
** Talon Ryashen of Act VI believes this, explicitly telling Kyouko that she's lucky to be stranded in the monster world; he even quotes the trope name word for word. It's later revealed that he came to believe this after he was turned into a monster hybrid by Fairy Tale, after which his family promptly rejected him in disgust.
** In Act VI chapter 6, Jenner, a GeneralRipper who distrusted monsters from the start and declared open war on monsters the first chance he got, goes on a rant at Ceal that monsters do nothing but lie and kill. Ceal retorts that humans are hardly any better.
--->Ceal: Lie and kill. You speak as if humanity is any different. You speak as if no humans commit any crimes or are hostile to their own kind. You speak as if all of your kind are as pure as angels themselves.
** In Act VI chapter 25, Moka and co. call out the [=HDA=] for their VanHelsingHateCrimes mentality on monsters, pointing out that they treat all monsters as evil beasts the minute a single rogue monster acts out while ignoring the fact that humans can be just as bad. Mizore even explicitly tells them in disgust that the [=HDA=] themselves are more of monsters than the gang. This reaches the [=HDA=] director, who agrees to negotiate with Moka and Akasha peacefully.
* HumanityIsSuperior: This is noted to be the very reason that the dark lords started TheMasquerade in the first place; it's been stated on multiple occasions that as powerful as monsters are, humankind vastly outnumbers monsters, and human technology and weapons are superior to monster might and magic. It's also stated that this is part of the reason why Fairy Tale can pose a legitimate threat to even the dark lords themselves, because they use human weapons and technology.
* HumanoidAbomination:
** Discord, the Blackheart-enhanced clone of Luna created by Fairy Tale in Act VI chapter 53, whom Gyokuro intends to essentially be a new Alucard under her control.
** Babylon, Hex, and Pandora as well. All three of them are described as anomalies in existence that shouldn't even exist in the first place. They have different affinities; Babylon's is war, Pandora's is chaos, and Hex's is luck. They also have vast RealityWarper powers, especially when it comes to their affinities, but according to Hex, they're not truly gods and can still bleed and die like every other living creature.
* HydePlaysJekyll: In Act II, after seeing Kokoa's newfound overcharge in action, as well as realizing Kokoa's newfound feelings for Tsukune, Tsukune's inner ghoul manages to seize control of Tsukune without Tsukune's knowledge and use said feelings to manipulate Kokoa into using said overcharge to give it enough power to become a full-fledged ghoul and hijack Tsukune's body completely. In Act III, it's largely because of this that, even with the Holy Lock keeping the ghoul sealed away, Dark is initially so dead-set against trusting Tsukune to keep the ghoul in check again since he already failed to do so once.
* Hypocrite:
** In Act I chapter 20, Dark calls Kokoa out on this, pointing out that she's insisting that Tsukune isn't worthy of being with a vampire because he isn't as strong as Moka is, but is still insisting that Dark is worthy of being with Kokoa herself despite having lost to Inner Moka in a fight. When Kokoa proceeds to declare that it's different because Dark is a stronger fighter than Tsukune and protects those around him, Dark quickly turns her logic against her by pointing out that, even before Tsukune got vampire powers, he risked his life to protect his friends again and again before proceeding to remark that, not only is she being unfair to Tsukune, she's still chasing after Dark even though he's already chosen Mizore as his girlfriend; when Kokoa decides to actually beg Dark not to reject her, Inner Moka then calls her out over the fact that, after all of her talk about vampire pride, she AintTooProudToBeg Dark to be with her even though he's already made his choice. Kokoa realizes that everything they both said is true, and is left in tearful remorse.
** In Act III chapter 23, Apoch and Astreal state that part of the reason they refuse to let Yukari near Ahakon is because she "never learns and chases after those who are taken." In the next chapter, their jerkish actions towards Yukari lead Ahakon to break up with them; for the rest of the fic, they themselves chase after Ahakon even though he loves Yukari and even try to steal him from her at least once.
** In Act III chapter 44, Kokoa ends up accusing Akua and Kahlua as such, considering the fact that they had the nerve to crack jokes about her damaged pride and her current bond of servitude to Tsukune when they themselves have thrown their honor away to work for Fairy Tale.
** In Act III chapter 50, and again in chapter 52, when Kokoa demands to know where their vampire pride is, Akua smugly responds that Kokoa has little room to talk about pride considering the fact that she's made herself Tsukune's slave in penance for creating a ghoul.
** In Act IV, most other members of the group reject Akua and Kahlua because they worked for Fairy Tale and nearly killed them, while forgetting that Dark himself once worked for Fairy Tale and has committed atrocities just as bad, if not worse. When Dark calls them on it, the others agree to at least give Kahlua and Akua a chance.
** For all of Fairy Tale's claims that they're looking out for monsters, they also spend quite a bit of time killing their fellow non-humans, having personally destroyed Ahakon's village and killed everyone there, nearly doing the same to Mizore's hometown not once, but twice, and also directly attacking Yokai Academy for preaching human/monster co-existence.
** In Act VI chapter 16, Kahlua tells Talon that he isn't the only one that's suffered at Fairy Tale's hands, stating that she and Akua have been altered by Alucard's blood as well and they'll never be full-blooded vampires again. Of course, this part falls flat because Akua and Kahlua willingly joined Fairy Tale in support of their ideals (though they didn't know what Kiria was really after) and chose to take Alucard's blood into themselves, whereas Talon was kidnapped off the streets and forcibly injected with it.
** In Act VI chapter 20, Arial criticizes Ran for chasing after Ahakon and refusing to accept him as taken when she herself is/was the same way with Dark. She also has the gall to call Kokoa out over her HairTriggerTemper when Arial's own temper is just as bad, if not worse. Finally, she actually demands that Mizore learn to respect her before she even considers giving her her blessing to marry Dark, when she herself has done nothing but disrespect Mizore since they met and is continuing to do so.
** In Act VI chapter 27, Sun joins in the others in chewing out Arial for her blatant refusal to accept that Dark loves Mizore and not her. While she makes a valid point, she has little room to talk since she was the exact same way with Gin, repeatedly refusing to accept that he's moved on to Kokoa in the three years since they last met.
** Talon Ryashen in Act VI. He seeks revenge on everyone who ever worked for Fairy Tale for turning him into a weapon, but as pointed out by others, he resummoned Jovian and Jacqueline and is using them as weapons to achieve this goal. Talon adamantly denies this, insisting that he summoned them for them to work together, and doesn't want them to be his slaves.
** Invoked in Act VI chapter 30; when Hothorne asks Moka how he can trust her story on Babylon's invasion, Moka turns it around on him by pointing out that, since his organization has a tendency to automatically deem all monsters evil, he has little room to talk to them about trust issues.
** For all of the angels' claims that they want to protect humanity, they seem to constantly have excuses not to help Tsukune and co. do so, with a healthy dose of LawfulStupid thrown in; for example, in Act IV chapter 16, they refuse to help them stop Hokuto from raising Alucard because, as Hokuto WasOnceAMan, he is still considered human to the Heavens and is thus considered sacred and untouchable to the angels until he actually dies with sin. In that chapter, Rason outright calls them "hypocrites of a twisted Heaven," with Ruby flat-out accusing them of having no respect for the humans they supposedly swore to protect.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: In Act III chapters 41 and 42, the gang (minus Tsukune) is doing relatively well against Kuyou at first, but only because, as Moka points out, Kuyou hasn't even been trying. Sure enough, Kuyou goes OneWingedAngel soon after Moka says this and makes short work of everyone... until Tsukune reenters the fray and annihilates him.
* ICannotSelfTerminate:
** In Act III chapter 12, Kokoa begs Moka to kill her before her ghoul infection takes over completely.
** In Act III chapter 43, as Fairy Tale attacks the school, Tsukune forces the others to promise to kill him in the event that the Holy Lock breaks completely and the ghoul is unleashed again.
* ICantSenseTheirPresence: As revealed in Act VI chapter 53, Moka's EvilKnockoff is completely invisible to all but the naked eye; not even Gyokuro can sense her, and the Fairy Tale scientist who helped in her creation specifically refers to her monster energy as non-existent.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo:
** Inner Moka's response to the DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale example above:
-->Inner Moka: I had to do what needed to be done.
** In Act VI chapter 14, Ruby and Razico acknowledge that, even if they've only dug themselves deeper with the [=HDA=], they nonetheless did what they had to to save their friends.
* IDontWantToRuinOurFriendship: In Act I, Rason himself speculates to the members of Tsukune's UnwantedHarem that perhaps he hasn't chosen which one he wants to date because he doesn't want to ruin his friendship with the other four. Tsukune himself confirms this, and all five of them are instantly ashamed of themselves for putting him in such a position.
* IHatePastMe: Good!Falla's reaction in Act IV chapter 22 when she regains her memories and is shocked to discover what an entitled sociopath she was, up to and including sending her younger sister to her death out of spite and annihilating her entire kingdom, family, and species in a fit of rage because she was denied the crown. When fighting her EvilCounterpart in Act V chapter 37, she is adamant that she is nothing like said EvilCounterpart and Evil!Falla is the true monster who did all that.
* IKnowMortalKombat: While preparing for the school dance at the end of Act I, Moka learns how to dance by playing VideoGame/DanceDanceRevolution.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: In Act III chapter 12, this is what Tsukune's fight with the ghoul-infected Kokoa amounts to. He manages to get through to Kokoa in the end.
* ILetYouWin: In Act I chapter 20, Dark has a friendly fight with Inner Moka in an effort to prove a point to Kokoa and get her to stop pursuing him and stop being such a Jerkass to Tsukune; he ends up throwing the fight.
* ILied:
** In Act II, Miyabi forces Mizore to have sex with him in return for sparing her mother's life... only to order Tsurara's death shortly afterwards to teach the snow women "their place."
** In Act V, after promising the Otonashis their freedom if they bring him the ones who killed Alucard, he goes back on his word when he finds out that they missed Razico (the deal being they charmed everyone who beat Alucard), before remarking that he most likely never would have let them go anyway.
* IOweYouMyLife:
** In Act V chapter 20, Ren uses this trope as her reason for staying with Tsukune to help him with his bloodlust, as he and the others saved her from Babylon's enslavement. Akua admits much the same, considering he was willing to give her a chance despite her actions under Fairy Tale and help her redeem herself.
** In Act VI, Fang Fang agrees to help the group in part because they busted him out of the [=HDA=] facility.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy:
** Despite losing the Eia Dreahl to Moka in Act II, Yukari isn't too concerned because at least Tsukune and Moka are happy together.
** After an initial bout of jealousy over Dark choosing Mizore over her, Felucia eventually gets over it as long as Dark is happy.
* IWantThemAlive: In Act III, Kiria makes it clear that he wants Tsukune, Moka, and Kokoa captured alive, so he can infect them with Blackheart and use them in his plans. His attempt to do so on Ghoul!Tsukune in the final chapter of Act III results in his brutal dismemberment.
* IWarnedYou:
** In Act III chapter 7, Dark, distrusting Tsukune to keep the ghoul sealed away even with the Holy Lock, explicitly warns him to stay away from Mizore or else Dark will kill him on the spot. In the next chapter, Tsukune approaches them, hoping to talk things over; unfortunately, Dark is done talking and promptly attacks him:
-->Dark: I told you to stay away. But you just don't listen.
** Later in Act III, when Moka reveals to the others that Hokuto's friend can repair Tsukune's Holy Lock, the others point out that it's a bit suspicious that Hokuto has his own Holy Lock and that his friend can repair it, especially after Rason himself said that the Holy Lock was one of a kind and that the Almighty Himself could possibly repair it; Moka acknowledges that it doesn't seem completely right, to which Inner Moka points out to her that that's exactly what she was trying to tell her all along.
** In Act VI, Ceal has Jenner restrained using Xarai, going on about how he's making a mistake targeting him and his friends and how they're the ones who can stop the real evil monsters out there. The minute Ceal releases him, Jenner panics and tries to shoot him, only for Xarai to restrain him again and toss him out a window into the jaws of a dragon sent by Babylon:
-->Ceal: I gave you a chance, human. That's more than it's going to do.
* IWillOnlySlowYouDown: In Act III chapter 8, when Tsukune and Dark are hanging off the cliff side, Dark tells Tsukune to just let him fall, pointing out that the rock Tsukune is holding onto is giving way and won't hold them both.
* IfIWantedYouDead:
** In Act III chapter 12, while Dark is trying to stop the ghoul-infected Kokoa from tearing off Tsukune's damaged Holy Lock, Mizore points out that if Dark really wanted to kill either of them, he would have just snapped their necks already.
** In Act III chapter 13, the headmaster himself outright tells the gang that if he truly believed that Tsukune was a threat or that the ghoul was about to come out, he would have already had Tsukune executed.
** In Act IV chapter 1, when Tsukune recalls that he nearly died the last time he saw Moka's father, Inner Moka states that Issa always had a flair for dramatics and if Issa really wanted to kill Tsukune, he would have done so before Tsukune even crossed the threshold of the Shuzen estate.
* IfYouWontIWill:
** In Act III chapter 42, Hokuto tells Felucia that either she keeps Tsukune and Ruby from following him into the archives to steal the artifact he needs, or Jovian will. Considering the fact that Jovian just shot down Apoch in cold blood when she refused before, Felucia has little choice but to obey.
** In Act VI chapter 17, after tensions between Mizore and Arial reach their boiling point and Dark sees Mizore beat Arial to near-death in a fit of rage, Moka insists that, even if Arial is sacred to Dark and it would crush him to discover the AwfulTruth, Arial's obsession with Dark is out of control and she will tell Dark the truth about Arial if Mizore doesn't. Mizore reluctantly agrees to tell him.
* IgnorantMinion:
** After his initial escape from his master, Dark was recruited by Kiria into Fairy Tale, who claimed he could be a hero to the world by joining them, quickly becoming their top agent. However, Dark was completely unaware of Fairy Tale's true motives until he discovered they planned to destroy Yokai Academy for teaching human/monster coexistence; outraged at being used, Dark erased all data related to Yokai Academy from Fairy Tale's computers and destroyed the base he was stationed at before taking his leave.
** Similarly, Akua and Kahlua only worked for Fairy Tale because they genuinely believed that the extent of Kiria's plan for the Chrono Displacement spell would simply be to use Tsukune's ghoul, infected with Blackheart, to rewrite the Battle of Kahdaln in favor of the monsters, which would give their father a leading place in the new world rather than being confined to TheMasquerade. By the end of Act III, they have to be specifically told that Kiria's plan wasn't just to do that, but also to wipe out Issa Shuzen himself by infecting his daughters with Blackheart and sending them back to destroy his empire from within, as well as to wipe out the other Dark Lords and anyone else who could oppose him, thus rewriting history entirely in Kiria's own image. Upon learning this, Akua and Kahlua are horrified and spend the entirety of Act IV trying to atone. Gin even lampshades this trope in the first chapter of Act IV, telling Akua and Kahlua point-blank that they were "too stupid to realize they were being used."
* IgnoredEpiphany: For several chapters after Act VI chapter 18, Arial at first appears to realize that Dark doesn't love her and that she ruined his image of her, but the epiphany doesn't stick until after she plants a ForcefulKiss on him and causes him to FreakOut and get run over by a car in chapter 27.
* IllKillYou:
** In Act III, after Kuyou immolates Astreal and tries to do the same to Apoch, he mockingly asks Tsukune if he made him angry and what he's going to do about it; Tsukune's response is this trope word-for-word.
** Tsukune screams this at Hokuto in Act IV chapter 27 after Hokuto stabs Moka and throws her off his ship. Hokuto smugly laughs it off until Apoch uses her LaserBlade to shatter the barrier Jovian and Jacqueline were using to keep Tsukune from pursuing him.
* ImStandingRightHere: This exchange between Ageha and the bus driver in Act VI chapter 47:
-->Ageha: My daughter could have been killed, I may never see her again, and on top of all that, I'm stuck riding in a low-class school bus in the human world with a driver who smells like an ashtray!\
Bus Driver: I do have feelings, you know.
* ImmortalImmaturity: Kahlua, despite being the second oldest of the Shuzen sisters, often acts childishly, throwing temper tantrums and watching children's cartoons. In Act IV chapter 4, when Kahlua is whining about having to use the bathroom, Kokoa lampshades her immaturity:
-->Kokoa: How am I the younger sister here?
* ImmortalLifeIsCheap: As a doll demon, Felucia can survive and regenerate from literally anything so long as her spirit artifact is intact. Naturally, she tends to get the worst of the battle damage; among other things, she's been impaled, shot in the head, blown up, incinerated, and dismembered. In Act III chapter 23, after Felucia is blown up by Apoch and Astreal after they TookALevelInJerkass, Kurumu flat-out says that it doesn't matter that they did so; what matters is their all-around bitchiness.
* ImmortalityHurts: Though she can survive and regenerate from anything as long as her SoulJar is intact, Felucia can still feel the pain of her wounds and "dying" each time. By the time of Act IV chapter 6, the constant pain she's had to endure as a result of being constantly tortured and raped by Jovian and Jacqueline has actually started to drive her insane.
* TheImmune:
** Discussed and averted in Act I chapter 23; Kurumu brushes off Yukari's warnings after she's dosed with the Love-Struck Potion, believing that, as a succubus, she is immune to love potions and charms. She promptly succumbs to the effects of the potion the minute she sets eyes on Rason.
** Played straight in Act VI chapter 2, where it's revealed that, despite being a full-fledged vampire, Tsukune doesn't have a vulnerability to water and thus can come in contact with it without purifying the water with herbs.
* ImmuneToBullets: In Act III chapter 49, after being infected with Blackheart, Dark shrugs off a shotgun blast to the face.
* InTheirOwnImage: In Act III, this is what Kiria's plan ultimately boils down to: by using the Chrono Displacement spell and the Blackheart serum, he plans to change the outcome of the Battle of Kahdaln, which forced the monsters to set up TheMasquerade in the first place, in favor of the monsters using Tsukune's inner ghoul, as well as use other Blackheart-infected monsters to wipe out all of the Dark Lords and any other powerful beings who could possibly pose a threat to him, effectively creating a world where monsters rule, humanity is extinct, and Kiria himself is the greatest, most powerful monster of them all. Unfortunately for Kiria, the plan fails, and he ends up dead because, in the case of Ghoul!Tsukune, EvilIsNotAToy.
* IneptMage: As shown in Act I chapter 12, Apoch and Astreal are not very good at mind control spells; their attempt to do so on Rason and Dark does nothing but put them in a trance, with the two barely responding to the sisters' commands at all. Later, in Act III chapter 13, their attempt to fix the damage done to the school only ends up causing even more damage.
* InheritanceOfAcquiredTraits: Act VI chapter 45 reveals that Luna, Falla, and Complica all got their skills at drawing from their mother.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Ruby; in Act III chapter 7, she tells the newly-resurrected Apoch and Astreal how Fairy Tale had raped and sexually abused the CloneArmy of them they had made to the last detail because she believed it made said clones' subsequent RoaringRampageOfRevenge more poignant. The Ezranas are understandably traumatized, and the others take the time to tell Ruby that she really didn't have to tell them that.
* InsaneTrollLogic:
** In Act III chapter 41, Kuyou goes on a rant towards the other students about how he tried to protect and guide them; of course this falls completely flat considering the fact that he ran the Security Committee like a yakuza group, made the other students' lives miserable, killed more than one of them in cold blood, and generally did the exact opposite of protecting and guiding the students.
** In Act VI chapter 15, when the group is confronting Arial over her theft of Mizore's ring, Arial states that, since everyone keeps saying that she's Dark's guardian angel and essential mother, she has a say in who Dark marries and says that Mizore can't marry Dark. When Ruby points out that as Dark's mother, she can't marry Dark either, Arial promptly tells them to think of her as his stepmother with no blood relation, insisting that no matter what, she's the only one good enough for Dark.
* InsecureLoveInterest: Gabriel proves to be this for Luna. In Act VI chapter 46, when faced with the possibility that he's Luna's Destined One, he's not so sure, believing he's not worthy of her because she's a queen while he's failed her again and again.
* InsistentTerminology:
** Razico insists on being called a treasure hunter, not a thief.
** In Act VI chapter 43, when Talon and co. realize that Ling Ling is undead:
-->Rin: She's a zombie?\
Ling Ling: I prefer "jiangshi," but yes, zombie would be an accurate term for me.
* InspectorJavert:
** Talon Ryashen, having been turned into a SuperSoldier by Fairy Tale, is determined to track down and kill any and all Fairy Tale operatives he can find. It doesn't matter to him if they were tricked, or if they're now heroes like Dark; if they were a part of Fairy Tale in any way, shape, or form, they're automatically evil and need to die.
** As stated under AggressiveCategorism above, the [=HDA=] spends most of their appearances automatically deeming all monsters evil no matter what. Akasha lampshades this in Act VI chapter 25, pointing out that maybe monsters wouldn't be so inclined to attack humans if the [=HDA=] didn't constantly threaten them and accuse them of things they didn't do.
* InstantArmor: Due to her infusion with Alucard's blood, Akua can manifest an organic chest plate for defense. The armor is durable enough that Akua was able to survive being shot by one of Jovian's energy beams.
* InsultBackfire: In Act VI chapter 52, when Hex says that he won't help Complica unless the group plays his game and outright says that the lives of "lesser beings" like them are beneath his concern, this exchange happens:
-->Kyouko: You're a monster!\
Hex: No, I'm not a monster. I'm more than that.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Kenzo and Felucia, who joined Fairy Tale together; Kenzo is old enough to be balding, whereas Felucia is a teenager.
* InterspeciesAdoption[=/=]RaisedByNatives: After the genocide of the chronoflies and her birth parents' death, Luna was adopted by a human couple; the two knew she wasn't human, but still loved her and were grateful to have a child.
* InterspeciesRomance: Several examples:
** Rason Miyamosa and Kurumu Kurono, an angel and a succubus.
** Dark Kuyumaya and Mizore Shirayuki, a shadow demon and a yuki-onna.
* InterplayOfSexAndViolence: In Act II chapter 32, while Moka, Mizore, and Kurumu are consummating their relationships with Tsukune, Dark, and Rason, respectively, Yukari and Kokoa are sparring outside.
* IntimidationDemonstration: In Act I chapter 22, when Yukari unintentionally clocks Dark with a washtub, Dark proceeds to crush said washtub into a ball of metal and set it on Yukari's desk, telling her that, while he doesn't like to hurt kids, the next time she does something like that, he'll make an exception; Yukari faints on the spot.
* InvincibleVillain: Jovian and Jacqueline are set up to be this by all appearances and information in Acts III and IV. As Akua and Kahlua put it, their barriers are unbreakable, their energy blasts are unblockable, they never get tired, and their power levels are immeasurable. With the reveal that Apoch's LaserBlade can penetrate their barriers and deflect their energy attacks, they become NotSoInvincibleAfterAll.
* IronicEcho:
** In Act IV chapter 25, after his EvilPlan has exposed Tsukune and co. as monsters to the humans and said humans are instantly wary and scared of them, Hokuto outright tells Moka that this proves that his nihilism is justified, stating that human/monster co-existence is a fool's dream and that "each side will kill the other without ever trying to reason with it." By the very next chapter, however, Tsukune and co. have successfully managed to win the humans' trust, and Moka is quick to throw Hokuto's own words back at him with a smirk on her face:
--->Moka: So, "each side will kill the other without ever trying to reason with it," huh?
** In Act IV chapter 30, Hokuto recalls what Tsukune himself said back when they first met in Act III that they would have been good friends. Tsukune simply retorts that they could have been friends, had they met before Hokuto lost his mind.
** In Act VI chapter 6, Jenner rants about how humans gave monsters a chance for peace, and got a school and city thrown into chaos for it. When he tries to shoot Ceal, he casually restrains him, throws his own words back in his face, and feeds him to the dragon Babylon sent to attack.
--->Ceal: What was it you said? Ah yes, I believe it was "we gave you a chance for peace." I gave you a chance, human. That's far more than what it's going to do.
** In Act VI chapter 34, Luna states that Hex is not obligated to do "charity cases" for them and if they want anything from him, they have to play his game. In Act VI chapter 52, when the gang is calling Hex out over the fact that he's not willingly trying to help Complica even though it's in his power to do so, Falla, having been charmed by Hex as a result of losing his game, throws these exact words back at Luna, reminding her that she said so herself.
* IronicHell: In life, Jovian and Jacqueline brutally tortured Felucia, both physically and sexually, to the point of madness for days on end while holding her captive. Upon their deaths at the end of Act IV, they're sent to Hell, where the also-dead Felucia eagerly seizes the chance to torture them back. To add to the irony, as shown in a flashback in Act IV chapter 31, Felucia had earlier sworn to Jovian and Jacqueline that when they died, Felucia would be waiting for them in Hell to pay them back, which Jovian and Jacqueline smugly laughed off.
* Irony:
** In Act III chapters 23 and 24, Apoch and Astreal pick a fight with Yukari and try to kill her, insisting that she not take Ahakon away from them. Their attempts to stop Yukari from doing so end up being the very reason that Ahakon breaks up with them in favor of Yukari, as well as the fact that he got caught in the crossfire and would have been killed by the Ezranas if Luna hadn't intervened.
** In Act VI chapter 20, it's revealed that Ran only fell in love with Ahakon because she was affected by a charming aura around him. The irony and embarrassment of a siren being the one charmed for a change is not lost on Ran.
* ItCanThink: Ghouls are stated to be nothing but mindless animals who can only think of what to kill next. When Tsukune manifests a ghoul as a SuperpoweredEvilSide in Acts II and III, the others are shocked to discover that Tsukune's ghoul form, though completely AxCrazy, has its own personality and conscious mind, and not only can it think and plan, but it can talk.
* ItCantBeHelped: In Act III chapter 41, when Jovian asks Hokuto what they will do when her repair work on Tsukune's Holy Lock wears off and if the lock breaks completely before he defeats Kuyou, Hokuto simply shrugs, says this trope word-for-word, and goes on to say that all they can really do is hope they can steal the artifact they need from the academy and get away before that happens, and then just wish Tsukune the best of luck.
* ItIsDehumanizing:
** On several occasions, when someone mentions Tsukune's inner ghoul in Acts II and III, they refer to him as an "it" or a "thing."
** In Act V, Jenner Rythmore is so disdainful and distrustful of monsters that he calls them "things" on more than one occasion.
** In Act VI chapter 49, while punishing Akua and Kahlua for not only failing to kill Talon, but letting him set foot in the Shuzen home, Issa outright refers to him as an "abomination" and an "it."
* ItOnlyWorksOnce: While the group is fighting Kuyou in Act III chapter 41, Mizore and Kurumu manage to land a blow on him with their duet. In chapter 42, when they try the attack again, Kuyou isn't about to let it happen twice and disrupts the attack by throwing Moka at them.
* ItSeemedTrivial:
** In Act III, Rason confesses that the Holy Lock was never actually made with the express intent to keep a ghoul in check, let alone one as powerful as Tsukune's, but he doesn't actually make this known to the group until after Tsukune has broken six links on the lock. To be fair, the other angels had repeatedly ensured him that the lock was indestructible either way, but still.
** In Act IV, Apoch and Astreal were well aware that Apoch's LaserBlade could penetrate Jovian and Jacqueline's force fields, but don't think to mention it to the rest of the gang until the very minute they've split up to save Moka from Hokuto as well as take on Jovian and Jacqueline, and Apoch isn't with either group that's actually fighting Jovian and Jacqueline. While Apoch has the excuse of having been explicitly told by Dark not to say another word about Jovian and Jacqueline's attack, and obediently doing so because she's Dark's YesMan, Astreal just offhandedly mentions it while the others are bemoaning the fact that nothing they do can break said force fields, and is genuinely surprised that they thought as such.
* ItsAllAboutMe:
** Kano, as in canon. He blackmails the girls of Tsukune's group into letting him take numerous dirty pictures of him, and repeatedly calls them away from their boyfriends to satisfy his own perversions; this also applies to Yukari, a prepubescent girl. When they point out he can't just keep calling them away so often or their boyfriends will get suspicious, Kano openly suggests they just break up with them to prevent that, and when the girls go on to say that that will definitely get them suspicious, Kano brushes it off, saying it's not his problem.
** First and foremost, Evil!Falla only cares about herself and acquiring power for herself. Even her own family comes second.
** Even after accepting her role as Dark's guardian angel/mother figure, this is one of Arial's most defining traits; she constantly claims that she's looking out for Dark's best interests by trying to choose who he gets to marry, but it's obvious to anyone who's paying attention that she only cares about what she wants for him.
** Sun also counts to an extent during Act VI. Despite having previously spurned Gin's LoveConfession, and despite this being the first time they've even seen each other in years, Sun still fully expects that Gin will come back to her, uncaring that he's since moved on to Kokoa. Moka even takes the time to call her out on it in Act VI chapter 20. It's only after Sun pisses off Kokoa to the extent that the latter beats her into a coma, and after she comes out of said coma, that she finally grows out of it.
* ItsAllMyFault:
** In Act I chapter 4, Tsukune outright says that it's his fault Mizore picked a fight with Moka in her jealousy, remarking that he should have picked a member of his harem to be with a long time ago.
** In Act III chapter 1, even as Tsukune tries to assure him that he doesn't blame her, Kokoa is adamant that his ghoul transformation is her fault because she was the one who botched the transfusion from the start, and because she was stupid enough to fall for the ghoul's trickery.
** In Acts V and VI, Gabriel blames himself for Luna's imprisonment in Babylon's world, as he was the one who brought her to Heaven to investigate the rift that Babylon had created. However, in Act VI chapter 14, Ahakon assures him that it's not his fault because he had no way of knowing what the rift really was.
** In Act VI chapter 44, things between Kokoa and Sun over Gin reach the point where Kokoa finally snaps and brutalizes Sun, putting her in a coma and leaving her essentially brain-dead. While Gin doesn't deny that Kokoa went too far, he insists that he's just as responsible as she is because he didn't just put his foot down and get Sun to stop her advances sooner.
* ItsPersonal: Several.
** Dark: Fairy Tale tricked him and used him to kill numerous innocents. Also develops such an attitude towards Hokuto, Jovian, and Jacqueline after they kidnap and enslave Felucia.
